I would love my 9yr old to start learning.
Pls advise online resources he can use as a beginner.
Thanks
The best thing you can do for him is to enroll him into a school where they train little kids on programming. He is way too little to go the self learning way.
But if you want to go ahead then you can try YouTube videos. Channels like the new Boston, Traversy Media, Euderka and free code camp is good to start off with. W3schools and tutorial point is good too for text based tutorial.
But I recommend you enroll him into an it school. He will learn faster that way.
My 2 cents.

ProgrammingProgramming On Andriod: Starting Off. by sparkle7(op): 12:17am On Dec 03, 2019
So many people have been asking for how they can learn how to program with Andriod/Mobile phone. So I have taken the task to teach the interested ones programming with their Andriod.
It is worth knowing that programming on Andriod should not be a permanent replacement to getting a system, but a way to get something up and running for those who don’t have the purchasing power to get a good PC yet.
Andriod has its limitations I agree. But the freedom that Andriod has is enough to make you a moderately good programmer.
Some people still have a doubt in whether you can make a decent program with just your Mobile phone and the answer to that is ‘Yes’! A big one at that. I have developed small command line applications with my Andriod phone. I used my Andriod phone to run some assignments for my course mates and I assure you, it is very much possible.
I have used my phone to develop a web application with python using the django framework. I used w3css for the front end and it was coded from start to finish with my Andriod phone before I pushed it to github.
There are lots of things you can do with your mobile phone not just chatting
With that been said, I will be starting off a tutorial on Python Programming on Andriod phone for those who would be interested to learn python. The tutorials will come in the form of articles and videos for those who are more of visual learners.
First, we will be starting from scratch to introduce python programming and the things you can do with.
Then we cover up the basics of it, all the way to the advanced set. And if possible, we will touch web development with python using the django framework.
I recommend that you stick around the programming section so that you won’t miss the tutorials which will be released frequently together with the accompanying video tutorial.
I would also cover HTML and CSS programming on Andriod here for those who are interested.
If you don’t see the language of your choice here, you can drop the language you want to learn and I might consider making a tutorial on it if the interested parties are large enough.

Downsides to programming on Andriod and quick fixes.

On the flip side, programming with Andriod can be a little daunting especially for people who are used to coding on a 17 inch wide laptop.
One of the downsides to this is that you might find it hard to locate some errors in your code, especially if you have the editor set to ‘wrap’. This is rare if you know what you are doing or have a basic knowledge of programming language you are using.

But if you are just starting out, it might be a little hard but you will get over it once you understand the basic syntax of the programming language you are using.
Another downside to programming on Andriod is that you might find it difficult to see exactly what your app look like on a desktop(strictly for guys who are into web development with Andriod). Thanks to a little ‘View on Desktop’ feature on Google chrome, this one is partially taken care of. Google chrome might not give the exact desktop version of it at times, so you might want to deploy it on an online server and view directly from a desktop or laptop.
Also there is the problem of file navigation. Some people find it very hard to navigate round their Andriod file system quickly like when using a desktop. Things like creating a virtual environment, installing some required Python files et cetra. This is taken care of by the editor we will be using which comes out of the box with a script mode, interactive mode, a Unix based terminal and a pip installation tool.
In fact that is one of the best editor I have seen so far. No too much ads or that buy premium app sh*t. Everything is okay and ready to go.
By the way, I will teach you how to run basic Unix commands for folder navigation.
Also you have temux which you can use to run some tasks in the background without disturbing your work flow.
Speaking about the downsides, there are some programming languages and frameworks which you cannot to the best of my knowledge run on Andriod. A framework like reactjs have given me tough time from time immemorial. There are some other not so popular languages that you might have a tough time setting up on Andriod unless you root your phone which I strongly discourage. Do that at your own discretion.
I will iterate again that an Andriod phone is not a fully reliable alternative to a PC or laptop. If you have the cash, get one. I actually have one myself but I prefer coding with my phone due to the fact that I can run codes any where without carrying around my system.
The flexibility it gives me is second to none, coupled with the fact that my phone battery lasts more than my laptop and since the Nigerian power supply is a big mess in my area. I will stick with Andriod for now. But I will always port back to laptop whenever am chanced to or when I want to handle big projects.
This is our website where you will get the full article on programming with Andriod. Everything will be Control CV-ed on Nairaland.
Also here is our YouTube https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCOEBIndIvs57G9REdqQtIwg that will have the video of the tutorial.
You can combine the text based version and the video series if you want, your choice!
And we’re off!
Drop your questions here or on our website, I will answer you to the best of my knowledge

Gbam! Money first
You won't go very far with this mindset.
I keep telling people that programming is not a side hustle that you can just enter and start seeing returns immediately. You need several months of rigorous training and practice if you really want to get something from programming.
Dedication and preserverance is the key. I have seen guys who quit programming because they couldn't understand a particular logic.

If you use that mindset above and happen to hit a bug that will take your several weeks to debug, you will lose interest in no distant time.

Code for the knowledge. Take programming as your career path if you really want to squeeze some juice out of it.
Money would come naturally when people see you works.
In my department I do run mini projects for my niggahs. It is not much but can help a long way.
I even run tutorial for some of my course mates. So you see when you are good, people will flock around you. And money will come to you.
Chase knowledge bro. Knowledge is not just power but money!
My 2 cents.

I am a beginner at programing, am intrigued to hear that i can code with my phone. Can you explain this to me more?
You can actually do almost everything you can do in a laptop with your mobile phone but some people won't just do their due diligence.
I have built a web app with just my mobile phone. I used termux to run the local host server in the background while I use chrome to access my app.
This app is a kind of showcase of my graphic works which I also design on mobile phone.
I installed django with pip using pydriod and wrote my scripts with it. Then hopped over to an writer to write the templates(HTML, CSS and JavaScript)
There is nothing to it. I am thinking of starting a tutorial on how to learn programming with Andriod phone. I will notify you when i start.
I have built two web app with my mobile phone only. I learnt bootstrap, w3css, HTML, CSS and python with my Andriod phone.
I even pushed the code to github with termux.
I will paste the repository link later here so you can see for yourself.

Of course, it is not rocket science. First time for everything buddy.
Everyone started somewhere so it won't be different for you.
First start by identifying what you want to do with programming. There are lots of career paths to follow.
Some include:
1. Web development.
2. Mobile app dev.
3. AI.
4. Data science.
5. Networking.
6. Machine learning.
7. DevOps.
8. Front end dev.
9. Database Manager.
Which path do you want to venture into?

ProgrammingRe: Python Udemy Videos by sparkle7: 5:34am On Dec 02, 2019
I got my first two certification from udemy completely free! Just go to Google and type ' Udemy free python courses ' You wikk see lots of them course your can take for free with certificate. I did this for django and got my cert from udemy.
Alternatively, you can use YouTube to download videos. Find a particular tutor you like and follow him/her religiously.
Derek Banas is cool if you want to grab the whole concept at a go.
The new Boston is another cool channel. Brad traversy is also a good tutor.

Peace!
Wow your dashboard ain't smiling.
Well sir, I have tried kdp but the returns isn't encouraging at all.
I just wasted time typing books without seeing the fruit of my labour.
To be sincere, it is not as easy as your dashboard portrays.
You will have to make your research, type, edit, proofread, format, design the covers and a host of other things. And when you don't get sales relative to the hard work inputted, writing more books would just be weaking me.
I will just take a break from kdp and continue with my programming.
Maybe during the holidays, I can try it out next time.

Zyzman:
Digital skills. which of the digital skills is easy to learn and get paid easily bro.
Nothing is easy bro.
But then you can try out:
1. Graphics design: this one is easy to grasp. Just get a good PC of about 4gb RAM. Go to any software shop near you and buy the adobe master collection. Learn adobe Photoshop there with the help of YouTube.
2. Animation/3d Modeing: people pay heavily for a nice 2 minutes 3d animation, so you can check this out. The learning curve is quite deep but it is worth it. You can use adobe animate for this or Blender.
3. Video editing: this one is really nice especially for freelancers. The downside is that you need much of data to download video files that may be 1 hour long if you land a job. Adobe Premiere Pro is the beat software for the job.
4. MS suite: this includes ms word, excel, PowerPoint and the rest. Some people find it hard to format books. If you know how to add page numbers, sections, TOC and the rest of those seemingly simple stuffs then you can get some jobs to execute on freelance platforms.
5. WordPress web design: This entails designing and building from bottom up a website with the help of the most popular CMS WordPress. You should know how to buy a domain name, purchase a hosting, installation of WordPress and adding an SSL certificate to it. It is relatively simple if you get the hang of it. You should also know your way around WordPress dashboard, theme installation and plugins. I know of a guy who builds website for people with just this method and he charges 30k and above. Something that the total cost won't even be upto 8k.
6. Digital marketing: Facebook ads is king! Be sure you have little cash to test drive and know your way around the complex Facebook ads panel. If you do this well, you can rake in millions from it. Provided that your ads converts well. Be warned that you can also lose millions if you don't have the idea on how to run an effective ads campaign.
7. Lastly, Programming: I added this to the end of the list for a reason. Programming takes time to master. It is not like any other skill I highlighted above that might take you 2 - 3 months to learn. It is more like a career than a side hustle. So be ready to give it your all for at least 6 months to be able to build something tangible. If I should recommend then you can go with web development. Use JavaScript fully for this. First start with HTML then CSS down to JavaScript. And stop! Immerse yourself fully in JavaScript and you will never go broke again. The next big paying niche is mobile development. Use java for this. Be notified that IOS developers are very rare, so if you can grasp swift for iOS app development, then you are sitting on a gold mine. Mobile dev most times get paid twice the salary of web devs.
Sorry if I could not be elaborate enough.
My 2 cents.

How come you knew your course was a waste of time and you continued studying it in the university?
Bro, dust your butt. Dump the certificate. Use your NYSC time to learn a digital skill ( 3 months is enough) then market them by:
1. Teaching others for a fee.
2. Freelance on any freelance platform.
3. Look for clients here on Nairaland.
So many people belittle the amount you can make here in Nairaland.
I made my first 10k from Nairalanders, legitimately.
There are lots of potential clients in Nairaland you just need to know where to find them!!
