There will be temporary closure of roads at Agodi Gate, Civic Center and Idi Ape tomorrow 22/03/2024 between 0800hrs and 1200hrs. The closure is to ensure smooth sessions at the commissioning programme of the Agodi Gate, Civic Center and Idi Ape Junction improvement works.

Therefore, the general public are advised to ply alternative routes during the period mentioned above, especially those who are not attending the commissioning programme.

Why we killed 17 soldiers in Deltan community,  young man behind killings speaks (VIDEO)


No fewer than 16 Nigerian soldiers reportedly killed while on a peace keeping mission to douse clashes between two communities in the South-South state of Delta penultimate Thursday.

Following this development, a young man has released video claiming he is a youth from one of the warring community in the state.

According to the man who didn't mention his name in the video presently trending online, the two communities namely Otuama and Okoloba are having land dispute.

He said: "this video is my last video doing concerning Otuama and Okoloba fight. The two communities get issue, Ijaw people from Otuama used army to carry 3 people and they were all slaughtered.

"The day the soldiers were killed, they came to carry our community leaders and youths knew once the community leaders were captured, they will be powerless".

He said that was reason the youths attacked and killed the soldiers. He added that his father was a retired army officer who died last year and he has lost six of his people to the fight. He therefore dared Federal Government to declare him wanted after doing the video.

At least three of the suspects who killed the 17 officers and men of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Nigerian Army, Otuama, Delta State, last Thursday, have been arrested.

Professor Adeniyi Olowofela Delivers Lecture on Sustainable Groundwater Strategies

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela delivered a lecture on sustainable groundwater strategies for long-term resource preservation at Bells University of Technology, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, the 17th lecture series of the University.

At Obasanjo University, Olowofela lambasts Governors that cannot provide pipe borne water for the people. He says, "Water has no enemy." "Water has an enemy." Anyone who vandalizes a borehole sunk for the people is an enemy of water and the people. Any Governor that cannot provide pipe borne water for the people is the enemy of the people. Anyone who destroys a pipe laid by the Government is the enemy of the people.

In his lecture, Professor Olowofela discussed the importance of groundwater, its sources, and explored various methods of groundwater exploration.

Groundwater, which makes up about 30 percent of all available freshwater in the world, is found beneath Earth's surface in rocks and soil pore spaces. Aquifers, units of rock or unconsolidated deposits that can yield usable quantities of water, play a vital role in storing and transmitting water.

Professor Olowofela, who is a professor of geophysics, explained the internal structure of the Earth, consisting of the outer silicate solid crust, a highly viscous asthenosphere and solid mantle, a liquid outer core generating the Earth's magnetic field, and a solid inner core. He emphasized that all human drilling has never gone beyond the crust, which is a thin layer of the Earth's interior, and the ground, in turn, is a thin layer of the crust.

The lecture also covered various zones and areas related to groundwater, such as the unsaturated zone, vadose zone, soil moisture zone, capillary fringe, saturated zone, phreatic zone, and water table. Professor Olowofela highlighted the differences between unconfined aquifers, which are in contact with atmospheric pressure, and confined aquifers, which are trapped under layers of impermeable rock and experience artesian pressure.

Addressing the contamination of groundwater, Professor Olowofela, who is also the present Federal Character Commissioner and former Commissioner for Education in Oyo State, explained that while unconfined aquifers used for water supply are often contaminated by surface waste and chemicals, confined aquifers are less likely to be contaminated and provide supplies of good quality. He discussed mechanisms of transport, including advection and dispersion, and the importance of porosity and permeability in determining the transmission properties of aquifers.

The lecture also delved into the methods of groundwater exploration, including surface methods and subsurface methods. Surface methods, such as geomorphic, geological and structural, soil and microbiological, remote sensing, and surface geophysical methods, are easy to implement and require minimum facilities. On the other hand, subsurface methods, such as test drilling and borehole geophysical logging, are more expensive but provide more accurate observations and measurements.

Among the subsurface methods discussed, the electrical resistivity method stood out. This method involves measuring the subsurface resistivity distribution using electrodes to determine geological parameters related to mineral and fluid content, porosity, and water saturation in rocks. Different electrode arrays, such as Wenner, Schlumberger, pole-pole, pole-dipole, and dipole-dipole arrays, are used for resistivity measurements.

The lecture also touched on the importance of groundwater monitoring for managing aquifer response and quality threats. Professor Olowofela emphasized that monitoring networks and data interpretation are crucial for controlling the impacts of groundwater abstraction and contaminant loads. Wells, including abstraction wells and observation wells, are instrumental in providing in-situ data and detecting potential changes in groundwater flow and quality.

Reflecting on his own contributions, Professor Olowofela mentioned his research on resistivity meters and other projects in Oyo State, Ogun State, and Lagos State with his research team. He also highlighted his role as the Chairman of Ido Local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State, from August 2011 to December 2014, where he provided over 100 wells for the local community.

In conclusion, Professor Olowofela emphasized the importance of providing portable water as a primary function of all tiers of government and well-meaning Nigerians. He stated that there is no pure water but good water, and anyone who destroys water facilities provided by the government is an enemy of the people. Finally, he expressed gratitude to the management of Bells University for providing the opportunity to deliver this lecture.

What is the best pattern of worship acceptable by God according to Bible?

When it comes to worship, the Bible provides us with various patterns and guidelines on how it should be conducted. While there isn't a specific "best" or ideal pattern of worship mentioned, the principles found in Scripture can help guide us in understanding what is acceptable to God.

1. Heartfelt Worship: Throughout the Bible, emphasis is placed on the condition of our hearts during worship. God desires sincere and authentic worship where we genuinely express our love, devotion, and gratitude towards Him. Jesus, in speaking to the Samaritan woman by the well, stated that true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). This means our worship should come from a place of personal relationship and humility before God.

2. Spirit-led Worship: The Bible encourages believers to cultivate a reliance on the Holy Spirit in their worship. In Galatians 5:25, Paul instructs us to keep in step with the Spirit, as the Spirit guides and empowers our worship. This calls for a surrender of our own agendas and preferences, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct and manifest His presence in our worship.

3. God-Centered Worship: Worship should always put God at the center, honoring and exalting Him above all else. In Psalm 96:9, it says, "Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!" This verse reminds us of the reverence and awe we should have towards God, acknowledging His greatness and majesty.

4. Word-Based Worship: The Bible emphasizes the importance of the Word of God in our worship. This includes being grounded in Scripture, allowing it to shape and inform our worship practices. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Incorporating the reading, studying, and meditating on God's Word can enrich our worship experience, bringing deeper understanding and connection with Him.

5. Communal Worship: The Bible also emphasizes the significance of worshiping together as a community of believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages believers to gather regularly, to encourage and spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Corporate worship provides an opportunity for fellowship, sharing testimonies, praying together, and singing praises as a community of believers.

It is important to note that these patterns are not exhaustive or exclusive. Worship is a personal experience, and the manner in which we worship ultimately depends on our relationship with God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. What matters most is that our worship is genuine, Spirit-led, and centered on glorifying God in all that we do.

On February 25, 2024, Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old serviceman of the United States Air Force, died after setting himself on fire outside the front gate of the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C, Wikipedia gathered.

Immediately prior to the live-streamed act, Bushnell said that he was protesting against "what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers" and declared that he "will no longer be complicit in genocide", after which he doused himself with a flammable liquid and set himself on fire. 

As he burned, Bushnell repeatedly shouted "Free Palestine!" while one Secret Service officer pointed a gun at him and two others attempted to extinguish the flames.

The act was live-streamed on Twitch. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to assist the United States Secret Service after Bushnell set himself on fire, and he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Bushnell's act was the second self-immolation protesting against the United States support for Israel in the Israel–Hamas war, which has killed over 30,000 Palestinians and resulted in a major humanitarian crisis, at an Israeli diplomatic station in the United States; another protestor set herself on fire at the country's Atlanta consulate in December 2023.

The President of the Association of Waterwell Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP), Mr. Michael Ale, has called for a partnership between borehole drillers and the government to tackle the ravaging waterborne diseases in the country. He also noted that the cost of drilling boreholes has more than tripled, making it unaffordable for the middle class, let alone the poor.

Ale made these statements on Friday during his welcome address at the 7th National Borehole Practitioners Conference and Congress held at the Reverton Hotel in Kogi State. The event, organized by AWDROP, is a biannual gathering aimed at addressing the challenges of borehole sustainability in Nigeria's current economic climate.

During his address, Mr. Ale highlighted the importance of focusing on borehole sustainability from the conceptualization stage to execution. He expressed concern over the significant amount of money spent on borehole projects that have little to no impact on the financial and social well-being of the communities they serve. He also noted the alarming number of water-related diseases recorded in hospitals across the country.

To tackle these challenges, Mr. Ale emphasized the need for collaboration between borehole practitioners and the government. He suggested partnering on technical and financial regulation within the sector, monitoring and supervision of projects, collecting data on dysfunctional facilities, and exploring water for irrigation to enhance food security. These are just a few areas where cooperation could make a significant impact.

Mr. Ale expressed gratitude to the National Organizing Committee and the local organizing committee for making the congress possible. He also recognized the resource persons who were carefully selected to share their expertise. Mr. Ale also reflected on the progress AWDROP has made since its establishment ten years ago. He stressed the importance of AWDROP's slogan, "Water is Life," and how it goes beyond business ventures. Ale revealed that AWDROP is committed to alleviating this suffering, even at the expense of their business profits. He noted that about 80% of Nigeria's water supply comes from boreholes, making it crucial to regulate and improve the exploration and exploitation of this resource.

Mr. Ale also reiterated AWDROP's commitment to partnering with governments, organizations, politicians, and individuals to provide potable water through borehole drilling. Looting of COVID-19 palliatives meant for zoos killed OAU zookeeper
