Milan dominated close to three decades in world football. Sacchi/Capello's Milan in the late '80s and early '90s - Ancelotti's Milan in the mid 2000s. People could make a case for Van gaal ajax or pep barca but in my opinion no team has dominated like Milan. It's a shame what Milan has turned to in recent years.

I don't think he's been forgotten. In his era, he was behind Maradona and arguably one or two others so by them time you compare history as a whole, he will be shunted down the pecking order. Zidane will also face the same in a couple of decades time, although recency effect, social media and his exploits as a coach are keeping his name in the spotlight for now.

Football clubs and National federations and your countrys' journalists are who keep your name in highlight. Neither Milan nor Holland have over-promoted Gullit as he left them in acrimony. They also have other bigger names to promote, whereas the likes of Eusebio will always be promoted by Benfica and Portuguese journalists while Zidane would be promoted by the French.

True and I also think being from a nation that has produced some great players down the age some will be left behind for others who are more prominent or better. Brazil for instance I think rivaldo and Romario has been shunned to some extent to promote Pele and De Lima.

At the time, Gullit was seen as the best between basten and rijkaard He captained the Dutch to win Euro 88 and was very much the marquee player in that team. Van Basten was a better player (an incredible goal scorer) but Gullit usually had the limelight in that era. Van Basten wasn’t even first choice for the Dutch in Euro 88 where Johnny Bosman was planned to be their starting striker.

The fact that Gullit is somehow underrated now have more to do with the competition. Van Basten's competition in an all-time debate is Ronaldo, Müller,Romario, — pure number 9s. Gullit as an SS/right winger is "competing" with the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi etc.

It's truly Amazing how Milan once had a team with 5 all-time greats — Van Basten, Gullit (a bit of a stretch as his competitors in the all-time pool are literally the greatest, but he was such a unique player), Rijkaard, Baresi and Maldini.

Gullit is a player I feel the passage of time has been less kind to. He has been forgotten.

Serie A between the mid 80s and the mid 90s was ridiculously good and financially unsustainable. Nearly every single club in it had 1-2 World class players. At one point it bordered to the ridiculous were top players like Hagi and Maradona would leave top clubs like Barcelona and Real to join minion clubs like Brescia and Napoli. Seria A then was ridiculous.

This is what I was looking for.The guy is the best pure striker in the game's history in my opinion. The sheer bravery to not only score from distance but to round the keeper numerous times in high pressure situations (more than any other striker spoke volumes of his ability and talent level) Look at the video of Zlatan admiring him and that would give you an idea of the sort of respect he commanded. He was just not only phenomenal, he was truly an icon of immense proportions and it does not matter how many goals Cr7 has over him, I have watched both and I truly know who I would love to defend against. De lima is the better Ronaldo.

De Lima was unstoppable at his peak, often playing for less cohesive set ups and even very limited cast (Inter). He was unplayable in a Seria A which was the best league at that time - stacked up with talent, especially defensive one.
He made a mockery of defenders like Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro at their peak.

Pogba is great obviously but he's something of a luxury player if you want consistency out of him (he does have the odd extremely boss game but those are few and far between) unless you surround him with quality. Pogba is the only source of creativity and when he screws up, the whole team does because there’s no one else to step up.

Mata is past it, Lingard isn't good enough, Perreira is a bit of a non factor, Fred is crap, Matic is past it and Garner & Gomes are only children.
