Lush100: . Odegard suppose.shout na. That was the moment . He's human too na. He can then meet the guy later and apologize. You think it's easy to stay at the top. The whole team is trying to be at the top and remain there. Any defeat at any time will psychologically affect the whole team. With teams believing they can beat arsenal. Xhaka was criticized openly by the fans. It's left for the manager to know how to get the best of him behind closed doors. After all those who criticized him will praise him openly too when he is playing well Like Xhaka now. Nothing stops Odegard from apologizing openly too. This will.be different of it's a senior player involved. That one is left for the manager not captain If he has to apologize it means he does not need to take that action in the first place. Like I said, open critisicm is not a bad thing but know who and how you do so, so that you don't damage the individual beyond repair. If that was directed to someone like Saka, I wouldn't mind. But knowing how heavily criticised Lokonga has come these days, doing that can damage his confidence and set him back miles away. Imagine that your mother is correcting your wife about how bad the food tast6e, and you put mouth saying that she doesn't even know how to boil rice. How do you think you wife will feel about you? |

Jodera: Kokaneprodigy, This is pictures not videos, so it won't capture my point I've been insistent on...
My main point is that
1... the pass being made to the offside players(in this case Man u and Sevilla)
2.. how they(the offside players) made the play active by chasing the ball
3... How they stopped at the last minute for their teammate(who's onside) to receive the ball without they(the offside players) touching the ball
These 3 scenerios was what happened in both games. You've talked about contact by Sevilla player on the Cadiz player which is valid(if true). But I'm not seeing any contact at all instead the Cadiz player slipped Like I said in the case of the Man United goal, Akanji didn't make a case for himself by aiming at the ball. Here the Cadiz defender made the ref feel he was impeded by going down on the challenge by the Sevilla attacker. This is football and not a philosophy class. Some players go down under minimal challenge and earn penalty while some stand their ground even under strong challenge and get nothing. Make a case. |

Jencejyde: Well said on the are we are looking at and I'm glad you agree that issue of leadership is subjective.
Of course the manager will want to douse the tension which is right but then again from a player perspective, on that pitch during a game pdegard in my opinion did nothing wrong.
Of course I can relate to the troubles of Xhaka in the past and that's why I said that the onus is on how the player now reacts to the challenges . Xhaka has reacted wonderful with performances on the pitch and I expect and hope that sambi does the same.
See title winning teams are not based on emotions or baby carrying players. It's based on tough mentality to thrive in good and bad times.
This little issue as I see it may be just a trying time for a sambi who by the way is 23 , but it's now up to him to rise above this for his own sake and that of the team, there is nothing more to be said after this. Like I said before I am not really into how Lokonga should react, rather I am interested in how Odegaard handled the lad. Note I said the lad and not the issue. You cannot beat a child and still show the child how to cry. You see, in leadership you deal with the issues but you handle the individual. I cited the case of Xhaka too. But we know that if not Arteta's handling, Xhaka won't be here today and we (probably no one) would know how good he can be as we know today. If every player barks like Odegaard I don't think the team will be as united and strong as they are now. It's a lesson to learn. I also believe that being a good leader himself Odegaard will ensure that the boy is taken care of. |

Jencejyde: Baba I get the point clearly and like I said looking at it purely from a player perspective,I do not believe Odegard acted wrongly as a captain. In fact I personally feel he had to do it to instill back concentration and confidence.
Sometimes as fans we will say our team is not doin well and there is no leadership because it seems everyone is just playing anyhow but when a player decides to show some leadership right there on the pitch, we bemoan the fact that it was done openly and could dampen the other players confidence.
I'd rather bark at you when on the pitch in the heat of the moment so as to ensure that we walk out that pitch as winners rather than keep quiet and lose only to meet you later to say you could have done this or that.
It's pointless after the loss.
We are all entitled to how we feel leadership should be displayed but in this context based on what happens on the pitch, I believe Odegard did what was best in not just sambis interest but for the team.
I believe you also see Ramsdale do this to his defenders. This is football and you can ge5 to some extreme adrenalin levels in a high stakes game . It's only normal to let out steam especially when you feel or see that another team mate is not pulling their weight in support of the cause.. Please note that I do not intend to make you change your opinion as leadership is very subjective. Mine is that knowing how Lokonga has come under criticism in recent times, that action can make him go low. I remember how Xhaka felt after fans were calling him out while on the pitch and then suddenly the coach decides to sub him. The reaction of the fans became more intensed which led to Xhaka throwing his shirt away damning the consequences. We saw how Lokonga walked away from the fans? There are better ways to handle such issues and as Roland said, Arteta had to take the initiative and leadership to protect his man. That's the area we are looking at. |

Jencejyde: In my opinion and from a player perspective, all I saw was 9utburst of emotion. When you are on the pitch busting your guts out and one player is not on the same wavelength, it's very possible especially if you are the type with an infectious attitude to winning and high performance for you to let it out .
There was a game we played where we were leading the opposition during Europa league back then where ESR and Nelson staters doing some flips and tricks. I remember Xhaka as captain told them off right there on the pitch. Now they did not react badly but rather toned down and kept it simple till the final whistle was blown. For a young player to become good he must learn how to accept critism at times whether publicly or not. Football is tough and you must be mentally strong.
Sometimes it may seem as if the telling off on the pitch may look bad but it's very necessary at times to always get players in tune and maintain high level of concentration. It's the reaction of that player been told off that matters.
Football is a team sport and for you to excel you cannot have some players being passengers and sometimes that little kick helps tune them back. Sambi for me is going the way of Pepe. If he feels that he was being picked on rather that keep his head up and prove through performance that he is up to it and can hold his own.
I can bet that after all said and done Ode will still go and meet him to speak with him letting know he just needed him to concentrate but it was in the heat of the game, nothing more.
If he reacts badly then that's his problem not oDes own.
Winning sides do not carry weak mentality personnel. If sambi feels bad about this then would he even cope in team with Viera or Roy Keane?. C'mon this is no time to be a softie. We have titile aspirations right in front of us and we must be physically and mentally strong now The point Roland made was not about how Lokonga should react to the outburst, but if Odegaard acted well as a captain. These are two different things. |

It doesn’t matter how poorly he played on the day, his action has simply pitched the kid against Arsenal fans. Part of your job is to protect, especially your young ones as a leader. Jodera: I remember berating him last season thinking that he was a 6 and all. But after analysing his game and reading research on him, I found out he wasn't really a 6 or any type of DM for that matter but Arteta wanted to build him as one. It's the main reason towards the end of last season I told Spy that he'll excel as a Cm and not a DM not to talk more of a lone DM.
This season, Arteta doesn't plan to use him as a DM, so I understand he's being used there out of necessity. Even though I will critique his game but I wouldn't be harsh as I was last season were I was all over him. He performed well playing no 8 in preseason. I wonder why he does get sub opportunities in that position. If I were him, I will demand specifically for that role for trials. |

kokaneprodigy: 😫 That's the problem with Lokonga. Being a backup to someone considered as the fulcrum of the team can get into ones head if the mentality is low. I saw some good moves when he had the ball, but his off the ball movement was poor. This things have to do with psychology and one trying to be what he's not just to please his oga and team mates. The good news for him is that good positioning and movement can be learnt. It will only take time, focus, dedication and consistency. Filling in for Partey nor be small demand. He better decides to improve or just ask out. |

Guimaraes and Trippier are good players so is Isak however he is very inconsistent...I think they upped their mentality, they now approach games differently. Eddie Howe is a brilliant manager no doubt. Newcastle knew what they got. He is doing something similar to what Arteta is doing in Arsenal. The point I am making is that, placing all the successes of the club on the managerial effort makes it skewed. That means ignoring the investment made by the owners. Mind you, Newcastle were able to attract the likes of Trippier, Guimares, and Isak through big contracts. It's all part of it. |

Arab money never even start to show yet laidat sef.
I wonder why West Ham and Wolves aren't competing for top 4.
I remember even using Wolves example as a club who have been spending heavily for the past few years yet people didn't seem to notice The bolded is the problem I have with you. Newcastle may not have spent much, but they have acquired players over the past two transfer windows who have helped the cause and most of them are on big wages. Before you begin to turn amala, know that I have not ruled out the coach's effort which is highly commendable but saying it's solely based on that is cheap talk. Dan Burn 13m Matt Target 15m Bruno Guimares 36m Alex Isak 63m Nick Pope 10m Chris Wood 25m Sven Botman 35m Keiran Trippier Free It is rare for a mid table club to invest such amount and also to attract such calibre of players without paying them high. These guys were direct upgrade of their first team in addition to the likes of Willock, Saint-Maxim, Callum Wilson, Almiron etc. So while it is clear the work Eddie Howe has done on the team, it will be cheap to say that a good transfer business did not contribute, which is the effect of Arab investment. |

Jodera: Lol.... I just hope you're not trying to twist it sha
This was our basis
Me: Arsenal creates chances as a team and all our attackers are expected to score as long as chances falls on any of them. That our attackers are scoring doesn't stop Jesus from scoring. (I proved it with stats and pics)
Spy: Jesus sacrifices himself for the team that's why our attackers are scoring and he doesn't. He involves himself in buildup play which others capitalises on to score whereby he doesn't.
According to our argument, one can deduce the issue here is not about whether Nketiah would outscore Jesus or not (cos I believe he would as long as he converts his chances).
The big Koko is that: is our other attackers still scoring even with the presence of Nketiah just as I said they would?
Yes or no ? No. How many goals have Martinelli, Xhaka, Saka scored after the WC compared to when Jesus was playing? When Jesus was available, the goals were evenly spread (which includes Jesus offcourse). FFS even Xhaka was getting on the score sheets. I said the reason is because Jesus always drops deep to create overloads everywhere on the pitch, and always giving us a man advantage thereby freeing up others to make goal scoring runs. Everyone praised his energy. I also said if another striker was involved who will not play/sacrifice himself but would focus more on scoring he would score more goals than Jesus. To prove my analysis I predicted that Nketiah if given the chance would score more goals. It is happening now, I expect you to apologize and appreciate my tactical ingenuity. |
