Incidents like this makes me sad. The days that have elapsed is putting situation of things in a critical state.

Typically 24hrs should be the period to come out with person missing alert, regardless of the situation that might be playing out. I wish lagos could use more plate reading and capturing cameras on major express and minor roads.

As it stands now we look up to God to grant her safe return, since you mentioned she called and said she was in kidnappers vehicle.

It's a shame such happened
If the time of the incident can be produced maybe help can be provided.
State of the art horizontal high sensitivity infra red cameras can be used on ground to cover movement on of the hostages and bandits.

Depending on wind speed within the forest canopy, tracker dogs can be deployed. Capacity of the dogs to pick up human scents is -14 hrs after incident.
Dogs are required to just sniff vehicle of passengers, since the chemical fermones and hormones have saturated the vehicle.

Service is only deployed for private clients. Shame the FG isn't consulting private security outfits with extensive experience.

OPINION
Am gonna be abstract on this.
The reason is because when you try to deduce the cause of infection in an organism you apply multiple diagnosis techniques.

Those who have worked or served in the security architecture of a sovereign nation would understand the employees are the life line regardless of technology.

A drawdown in competency can lead to collapse of the entire architecture regardless the technology in place.

Now linking the current war on terror in Nigeria it will be fair to say there are pockets of incompetency in every security apparatus.

Reason for saying this is that when you compare the timeline of before 2017, it will be fair to say it was much fairer then than it is now.

Fairer then because there were serious bridge in synergy and timely execution of intelligence operations between agencies. The break in coordination was Soo bad it took the intervention of the private south african military contractor.

What most nigerians didn't know is that the contractor implemented their own framework on how they would execute their operations. Components of this framework involved bypassing certain hierarchy thus having direct access to the commander in chief.

This framework have been utilized across many nations of africa that have engaged their services.

Why did they do this? They had their template for intelligence operations, whereby for your eyes only really meant for the commander in chief eyes and his military echelons only.

And this worked because boko haram was seriously depleted in that period of time leading up to the elections? A further extension of that contract would have seen a retreating boko haram going beyond lake chad into the sahel.

Now when we look at then and now it's obvious changes were made. These changes occurred within the security apparatus and it reversed some gains made by the private contractors.

I would love to outline the gains but wouldn't due to how sensitive it would be.

As it stands now military contractors from world powers will find it difficult synergize or aid the Nigerian nation in curbing the growing threat of via training. Reason because there is no infrastructure fully on ground to make the training itself effective.

On pointer is to look at the training rate between Nigeria and israel. It went from 3 security outfit to just one. And this one have been over a year now.

Other pointers is to look at the established training pact Nigeria has with world super powers.

Also forget the russian hype, the lesson they learnt in Angola is still fresh. It's the reason why you realize the russian interest in form of wagner group mainly revolves around just training and VIP protection.

And who thought them that lesson? The same south africans, who are now retired and training new bloods joining their ranks.

They are the most effective guys on the African continent because they know the ins and out and the dirt that goes with the politics around africa.

My conclusion is that there would have been a continuation of the contractor services. Because the new dynamics they brought would have upgraded the understanding of the Nigerian state.

Confrontation is good and can be done in a healthy way. It's does have to do with redefining priorities via getting a better understanding of two parties involved in a relationship.

When you study the act of stepping down your ego for the sake of redefining the relationship in an event of confrontation, you end up appreciating the human psychology.

Human relationship is all about psychology and it's evolution along with environmental factors that induces it.

Brother forget all those security conscious of a thing. You never say sai dey are even kidnapping senior security personnel. Even the church and mosque is not safe. Nowhere is safe in this country.
Your position is fairly right. Those that haven't undergone rigorous training as security personal won't have that heightened security awareness senses.

When it comes to been put up with a gun it's an entirely different experience and feeling. it's for this reason we always tell ordinary citizens to never argue or struggle with an armed person. Your best form of defense is to act a coward so that you live to fight another day.

The major difference between an ordinary citizen and a trained security operatives is to discern activities within the environment constantly. Then the ability to constantly weigh decisions in order to choose the one that favors them.

For example information I give ladies in security awareness is that never enter a random vehicle when it's raining. This is the most dangerous thing a lady can do because you can be openly battered and robbed and no one would come to your aid. This is because the rain acts as a cover due to sound restrictions and restrictions of movement.

So ladies should always wait till the rain goes down, your work is no way important than your life.

News like this makes one sad.
There are cases brought before us that we can't solve due to restrictions on our terms of agreement with the security structure of Nigeria.

One fact Nigerians must know is that there are at the mercy of criminal elements and it's only the wealthy with money that pay for sophisticated form of security.

Our threat surveillance operations have significantly gone up in places like abuja and lagos. This is because there have been deep infiltration of terror elements running away from the military onslaught up north. How prepared the local intelligence and security agencies are is something we can't asertain.

Part of our operations as private operators is to function as an auxiliary to the national security and intelligence agencies, so we would continue to do our best in passing on information.

Don't watch or stop watching American or european spy movies.

Rather I would rather advice to see these set of movies from bollywood.

This write up is to give intended persons who will want to at a point in time serve their country in an intelligence capacity, a reality check.

Madras cafe.

From my experience, majority of african nation intelligence operations have serious down side portrayed in the movie.

Sometimes you guys hear that saying
'this is Africa'
These words resonates deep, far and wide. Because life is very very cheap in Africa.

And also the war on terror in Nigeria have suffered some serious setback over the years because of this dirty part of intelligence. The movie portrays the dirty part of intelligence work in a surreal realistic manner.

Second on the list is

Razzi

One thing about this movie is the reality it portrays about been listed into any intelligence agency and working as a field agent.

Hollywood haven't done justice because they tend to over glamorize this aspect in form of bond and others.

This movie captures the fears, the nervousness and all emotions wreck that comes with working covertly.

If you are not patriotic enough to the cause, they will die early and miserably.

Nigeria is at a cross roads, how prepared it is for future warfare isn't known.

One thing Nigerians must know is that no world power cares about your nation other than the inhabitants.

The world powers would only do the little they can, it's up to you guys to preserve yourself before thinking of making progress.

This imbalance creates a leverage that is used and applied in various forms such as political elections, trade and investment.

Therefore this forum is to help in setting up and deepening the understanding of such leverage. Because when there is understanding, knowledge becomes an indispensable tool and weapon.

A very insightful piece
But how effective is the program.
No course for alarm some where on the lagos island we got wind of two individuals who were associated with boko haram.
We couldn't communicate with the police nor DSS because it will just be a hear say without any tangible evidence.
So we decided to conduct our own investigation, all information gather pointed to a route used by the insurgents to attack or defect.
After establishing that the two men where of great interest, they went off the radar.
We then concluded that it's either some where along the line they have an informant or they are part of the repentant program.
Because even though our investigation was covert and discrete in nature we intentionally have out a hint and it would take someone with deep knowledge to unwrap it.
My conclusion these guys are in the south, it's up to southern NIGERIANS to start setting up measures to ensure their safety.

Interest or no interest history has always shown afghanistan to be a hostile region any world power.
China can only tighten the security operations within its own border and extended territories.
Also due to the islamic law guiding the taliban that practice of china bringing chinese workers might stop.
Reason is because taliban would want to look presentable and as the best alternative for the afghans going forward. Meaning more more projects would be needed to enable this face lift.
In which china would be a willing participant.

This report is nothing but an attempt at making The Afghans the fall guys. The Americans in particular and the west in general should stop the habit of making ijiots the leaders of any country under their control. With the exception of South Korea and Japan and Western Europe, America has this habit of colluding with touts from other countries to run the affairs of those countries. They never try to employ the best brains. All through Americaas presence in Kabul they were never interested in making a people oriented president there. They will always go for the corrupt bunch . .

You can't eat your cake and have it.... it's the case in Iraq, was the case Panama and Granada. The French and the British are doing the same in their colonies..When you make a tout the president of a country, he will misrule and never build up the structures of government needed to safeguard the country. They never put in a good work at building up strong Afghanistan because they feared the country will fall into the hands of a terrorist group again... Ironically, it was this fear that actually helped the Taliban to actualize power today, much faster than they would have ever done.
There are elements of Truth in your write up.
I was privilege to serve in helmand in a private capacity and to an extent can say the system of government was an all inclusive system.
The warlords were recognized and were major part of the power sharing formula. The center wasn't as strong the world thought it was.
Back then the talk was now everything has been setup why don't america and its allies evacuate!?
It was a dicey questions because on one hand the warlords did a good collaborative work of supporting the center on the other hand some powerful interest were playing politics.
Everyone back then knew the taliban were in control of the mountainous border regions and where just buying their time. Now this is result we are seeing.

Everyone knew at a point the usa and its allies will pull out and leave afghanistan to govern and support itself.

Afghanistan had major infrastructure setup so that it can start progressing as a country. But the leaders lacked will power even some of the hardliners that were part of the nation building process joined in the looting.

One must also know afghanistan is a country made up of pocket of regions governed by it's own leaders. Which is why the taliban declearing such victory is very premature and only a matter of time before those warlords regroup and start an offensive.

Also lots of people fail to realize is the realignment of objectives of the usa.

Now this has happened there is some sougth of rebalance to an extent.
The afghans problem is now a Chinese one because of proximity and potential disruption in economic activities if the taliban choose to take their influence outside it's country.

Foreign Affairs › Intelligence:why Afghanistan Fell by sslcrypt(op):
Despite the $83 billion and two decades the US spent equipping and training the Afghan army, in many provinces the military appeared to evaporate in the face of Taliban insurgents.

With more than 300,000 personnel and equipment that was more advanced than the Taliban arsenal, Afghan army forces were formidable – on paper. In reality, they had been plagued by corruption, payoffs, poor leadership, lack of training and plummeting morale for years.

Desertions were common and US government inspectors had long warned that the situation was unsustainable.

The government outpost in Imam Sahib, a district of Kunduz province, held out for two months against the Taliban. But resources and supply runs soon dwindled. “In the last days, there was no food, no water and no weapons,” trooper Taj Mohammad, 38, told the Wall Street Journal. The remaining troops eventually fled for the provincial capital, which itself collapsed weeks later.

Troops on the front line in Afghanistan's second-largest city Kandahar were given "one cardboard box full of slimy potatoes" for an entire police unit’s daily rations last week, the New York Times reported.

Kandahar police said before the city fell they hadn’t been paid in six to nine months, according to the Washington Post, making Taliban offers more tempting.

Taliban insurgents mixed threats and bribery, along with propaganda and psychological warfare, as they took city after city – some with barely a shot fired – eventually capturing the capital.

Beginning last year, Taliban leaders started offering desperate troops money in exchange for weapons, according to the Washington Post, in meetings and deals dubbed "ceasefires" by Afghan officials. "Over the next year and a half, the meetings advanced to the district level and then rapidly on to provincial capitals, culminating in a breathtaking series of negotiated surrenders by government forces," the Post wrote.

And yet as foreign troops began their final withdrawal based on a Trump administration deadline set for May 1, Washington and Kabul were confident the Afghan military would put up a fight against the Taliban.

Afghan forces did put up strong resistance in some areas such as Lashkar Gah in the south, but they were facing the Taliban without US air strikes or military support. Confronted with smaller but highly motivated groups of Taliban insurgents, many soldiers and even entire units simply deserted or surrendered, leaving the Islamists to capture city after city.

Meanwhile, US intelligence assessments were woefully optimistic. The Taliban could take over Kabul within 90 days, US officials estimated last week. Some 72 hours later, Kabul had fallen.

Even the Taliban were reportedly surprised at how quickly they were able to take control of some provinces.

How did the US fuel a Taliban victory?

For some, Afghanistan's collapse was 20 years in the making, as mistake after mistake was made in the Western nation-building project. But the final nail in the coffin of the Afghan government came last year when former US president Donald Trump signed a deal with the insurgents to withdraw US troops by May 1.

For the Taliban, it was a sign that their victory was imminent after nearly two decades of war. For Afghans, it was a betrayal and meant their abandonment by the international community.

The Taliban continued to attack government forces but started to combine those with the targeted killings of journalists and rights activists, heightening the environment of fear.

They also pushed a narrative of inevitable Taliban victory in their propaganda and psychological operations. Soldiers and local officials were reportedly bombarded with text messages in some areas, urging them to surrender or cooperate with the Taliban to avoid a worse fate.

Many were offered safe passage if they left their weapons and did not put up a fight, while others were reached through tribal and village elders.

What happened to the anti-Taliban warlords?

With Afghan forces unable to hold off the Taliban advances, many of Afghanistan's notorious warlords rallied their militias and promised to fight the Taliban if they attacked their cities. But with confidence plunging in the ability of Afghanistan's government to survive, the writing was also on the wall for the warlords.

Their cities fell without a fight.

Longtime warlord Ismail Khan, known as the "Lion of Herat" and seen as his city's last hope, was captured by the Taliban as Herat fell.

Uzbek commander and former vice president Abdul Rashid Dostum as well as fellow warlord Atta Mohammad Noor briefly joined the battle for Mazar-i-Sharif before fleeing into Uzbekistan as their militias abandoned their humvees, weapons and even their uniforms.

What was the Taliban's strategy?

The Taliban had been quietly pursuing what has been called an "outside-in" strategy, slowly tightening their grip on provincial rural areas before moving in to take over the regional capitals.

The insurgents also reportedly began negotiating deals and surrender arrangements – with everyone from individual soldiers and low-level government officials to provincial governors and government ministers – long before the launch of their final blitz in May.

The strategies proved immensely effective.

Images from the Taliban's final march to Kabul were not of bloody battles but of Taliban and government officials sitting comfortably as they formalised the handover of cities and provinces that were taken largely without a fight.

By Sunday, president Ashraf Ghani had fled the country, reportedly to Tajikistan, bringing a stunning end to the 20-year international campaign to transform Afghanistan into a modern state with a central government whose power extended into the diverse provinces across the country.

As a tense calm fell across Kabul, with many people hiding in their homes in accordance with Taliban orders, fears of a return to the brutal rule the Taliban imposed when it was last in power led others to throng the roads leading to Hamid Karzai international airport, where chaotic scenes unfolded as both Afghans and foreigners made a last mad dash to escape.

The same applies to Russia.
Hahahah you keep saying authoritatively that China don't care about the taliban and is just about their interest.
Will they ever be security of interest if the environment isn't stable?
You think china would risk a suicidal mission of sending in troops to afghanistan? Because the way you sounding is more like china don't care about the military confrontation because they would crush the taliban by default so they care all about their interest.
Don't security and business go hand in hand?
What's happing in the border towns of myanmar? Isn't china supporting the maynamar military via air campaign on the border towns that's spread across jungles?
Wasn't this decision taken to involve themselves after they realized mynamar military wasn't protecting Chinese businesses since they were been attacked by local rioters?

All am saying is china knows the use of military will be a zero sum game and they would end up like other world powers.
It's for this reason they are reaching out to the Taliban.. so yeah they have to pet the pitbull because it has already attacked them in pakistan and such attacks could spread to other neighboring countries were chinese BRI is currently running.

Somehow you think the republic of China and Russia are scared of the Taliban. Seriously shocked. How did you come up with this analysis?
I never mentioned they were scared I only said they have no choice

And one of the list of many reason is that China have vested interest in afghanistan since majority of their rail port running from Pakistan, Sri lanka and sun India would go through afghanistan.

Second of the many is that China doesn't know the position of the taliban view on the suppression of ughuir muslims in xinjiang.

This is particularly worrying to china because the only form of counterintellige they implemented was go setting a fabricated terror camp in afghanistan, that was used to entrap ughuirs willing to join the camp

Third of thousands of reason is that pakistan in the eyes of china is no longer reliable and this can be seen in the terror attack launched against chinese citizens couple of months back and a failed attack on the Chinese consulate also.

There are other reasons I can mention here but won't due to the nature of the information. All stated are open source

As for Russia it's a CASE OF CONTROLS THE PITBULL

when Russia was in afghanistan, the usa where the ones in charge of the pitbull aka taliban.

When the USA were there Russia used it as an opportunity to even the scores.
This evidence could be seen in the killing of a top CIA case officer in a plan crash, casualties in some military operations in helmand and pockets of looses for the west. What was common to all? Chinese made tactical weapons routed through bulgaria and ex soviet nation's such as turkmenistan.

Russia has an active military pressence in those ex soviet nation's and where part of the logistics process.

Now CHINA wants to be in charge of the PITBULL and the only way you can gain the trust of a aggressive animal is via petting and then feeding.

Strong nation's use different countries for their interest..

All these can be seen in their stance of putting forward economic support with many more under way.

Thus the reason I said they have no choice

China has no choice because they know the taliban would focus on them due to the eradication program its implementing on ughuir muslims.
Secondly china fears these uighurs muslims would set up training camp in afghanistan and can easily penetrate china due to their close border proximity.
Thirdly their belt and road initiative is something they want to keep alive and afghanistan is part of the project. This means that they need the taliban on board to make the project happen.

Russia on the other hand have be dealt with by the taliban, so they won't want a repeat of terrorist trained in Afghanistan making their way into Russia federal regions especially chechnia.

So they will have to come to some sought of compromise because a spread of taliban success would reactivate many islamic groups.

And russia to it's south is surrounded by islamic nation's from turkmenistan to krygstan to kazakhstan.

Iranian media reports that Iran is establishing explicitly Iran-backed Shia militias in western Afghanistan.

Iran wants to protect the Shia minority (about 20 percent of Afghans) from the expanding reach of the Taliban. In the late 1990s the Taliban went after Afghan Shia in a big way and the victims have not forgotten.

The new militias are composed of combat experienced Afghan Shia who served as Iranian mercenaries and survived combat in Syria. Oddly enough the name of these militias, Hashd Al Shi’I, does not use one of the local languages (Pushtun or Dari), but a language the Syrian veterans learned a little of in Syria. Hashd Al Shi’I is Arabic for “Shia Mobilization”.

Over 50,000 Afghan Shia served in Syria and, as they returned to Afghanistan, often took the initiative in protecting fellow Shia from increasing violence by Islamic terror groups, including the Taliban.

The former mercs asked Iran for help but until now all Iran was willing to do was back anti-Pakistan Taliban factions that, in return for weapons and other aid from Iran, promised to leave Afghan Shia alone. Moving on to explicitly Iran-backed Shia militias is not considered a big surprise.

In 2019 Iran sent most of the Afghan mercenaries in Syria home because the revived American economic sanctions had greatly reduced the amount of money that could be spent on the war in Syria.

Iran began building a new mercenary force by hiring Syrians. The best of the Iranian foreign Shia were the Afghans but there was a limited supply of Afghan Shia willing to serve as Iranian mercs in faraway Syria.

To entice the Afghans to volunteer they were paid more than other foreign Shia in Syria. While the Afghans were the best fighters, a growing number would not renew their contracts and returned to Afghanistan or Iran, where mercenary service also earned an Iran residency permit.

While the Syrian Arab mercs are cheaper, they are adequate. The low cost is largely because of the bad shape the Syrian economy is in and the dire poverty many Syrians live with.

By 2020 there were over 10,000 Syrian mercs in service for Iran. Most were based on or near the Israeli or Jordanian borders. Many Syrians see the Iranians and their Syrian mercs as another foreign occupation force. Syrians are tired of war while the Iranians want more of it, mainly against Israel.

Iran appreciated the efforts of the Afghan Shia in Syria. In early 2018 Iranian media reported that Afghan mercenaries working for Iran in Syria suffered over 10,000 casualties since 2013. Over 20 percent of the casualties were fatal. It was also reported that over 3,000 Afghan Shia mercenaries died fighting against Iraq in the 1980s.

The Iranian mercenary force in Syria was a decisive factor in keeping the Syrian security forces from being completely destroyed. Many of the Afghan mercs who earned residency permits in Iran did not use them because of declining economic conditions in Iran and better prospects back in Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan the Syrian vets were highly respected and the Afghan government feared that those former mercs would turn into another warlord army, like the ones that tore Afghanistan apart in the 1990s.

That was half right, but the commander of this new Afghan Shia force is Iranian, not Afghan. Iranian IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) personnel, also veterans of Syrian service and often the same men who trained and led the Afghan mercs in Syria, are back with their Afghan Shia fighters once more fighting Sunni Islamic terrorists.

They are still going to fight one another for supremacy... It is the nature of man. There is going to be rivals.... Some will say they are been cheated and will rebel against others.... And that may leads to the division of the country... All of them, same goal but different ideologies..!!
Such differences are always present but it never surfaces.
This is the avenue intelligence operations comes in play. Season intelligence officers are given assignment to ensure cracks ate created and widen within their structure.
As we speak there are leaders amongst the taliban that were against this move think it will warrant the interference of western powers.
Now the taliban have proven they can take over without any blowback. They either arrest those who beleived they couldn't or relegate them to back burner.
These guys are the type you need for your intelligence operations to succeed.

Miss the good old days on the field
