Tinubu just Dey avoid igbos from 5 eastern states in his recent appointment ...while carefully making it up with Northwest and Central.

2nd term already on mind.

Since the northern efcc uproar..

But why is the south south not fully carried along.

We wait for the ambassadorial names... asorock this few weeks has been busy with appointments..

If your candidate no make any list .. go realign grin

God bless Nigeria

For those waiting for economy.. Baba say na till January
Buhari avoided the SE, does it make the SE'ners poorer or richer? If Tinubu should appoint Okafor in all the posts how does it affect chukwudi hawking hala in Maryland? All these tribal bigotry takes nobody anywhere. Are there not very poor people in Daura today? Both Ibb and Abubakar hailed from Niger, can you live in MINNA today? Appointment is only for the pocket of the appointeee and if you look closely most appointee are already ok financially, hence the new wealthy is just for them to squander

I disagree - I work for the competitor of google and get paid bi weekly. Tenured teachers get paid biweekly . I know professors that get biweekly. Hospital employees get paid biweekly.
It’s all in preference . Those that have full accounting staff will prefer biweekly while those without do it monthly . Bank employees get paid biweekly. Those companies that depend on income from products and services to pay will prefer monthly
Wether you agree or disagree is irrelevant. If you have a guaranteed full time employment you will be paid monthly. You can work in hospitals, school even Google and Amazon on contract, hence you will be paid weekly or biweekly hence no work no pay, you clock in or sign in and out. Emphasis on guaranteed full time employment. Even if I don't show up in a week, I will still get paid, I might be queried but my time is guaranteed. I had worked for a bank in the UK and I was paid monthly.

So because you've never seen it, that mean they don't ask the question?

Yes there is indeed a difference between immigrant Pakistanis and western pakistanis like this lady. That doesn't erase her Pakistani origins.
There is also a difference between immigrant Nigerians and British Nigerians.
I knew before I opened this topic, it was a fob Nigerian asking the question.
Sharon Zukwanike, Zukwanike Zukwanike!!! ok I agree with you Nigerian men do say such. grin

Yen yen yen. You know what I'm talking about.
Men in Nigeria ask the question all the time, so why is it hard to believe that he would do this?
The pretence of all of you here makes me sick. It's casting you in a bad light.

When you said: "The British are tricker than any sapiens on our planet"
Did that comment apply to this lady ?
If you knew she was Pakistani, would you have said that?
Firstly I have never seen anyone ask a lady that question, I only read about it. The men in Nigeria I know are classy hardworking guys. Like I said, it is all about your circle. I cannot relate with Nigerian men asking such questions before I have not experienced it in my circle.

Secondly a Pakistani would not come online to post this, a Pakistani in Britain is timid and you can easily see the difference between those born in Britain and those that migrated. I live and work in Britain so I know

You’re definitely in the minority.

North America or Europe if I may ask.
And are you SMB ? Small or medium business?

Some companies even pay weekly due to high turn over of staff . ( Walmart , UPS, logistics companies , warehouse , telemarketers etc )

Good 2know
If you are on a full time employment you get paid monthly. It is only minimum wage jobs and jobs where the employer cannot guarantee you a full time employment that pays weekly and biweekly. Google will not pay a senior engineer weekly or biweekly hence most weekly payments are usually minimum wage jobs

You know damn well that Nigerian men in reality go about asking women that same question in Nigeria.

Your pretence stinks!!!

And the woman isn't white, she is from Pakistan!
I do not know you neither do you know me. The guys you mingle with are in your circle so if you have terrible fellows in your circle, it is no fault of mine. There are Pakistani's who have British citizenship and the identity as British.

We all know that the British are the trickiest on the planet, the very reason I said “they are fake and not sincere in attitude”. But the major point here is comport yourself in a strange land and with strange people before your case leads to touching stories like this.
Your advise is quite succinct. Happy new month... 🥂

Can you hear yourself out?

I said British girls will have a very open chat with you and tell you what they feel like telling you to make you comfortable with them. You don’t need asking them about their life before they tell you what they want you to know.
There is a boundary you dare not cross with them, if you try it, you are a goner. Their sexual life isn’t something they keep secret if you ask them questions on it in a rightful, chatable, respectful and courteous way like “would you mind/like sharing your body count with anyone?”, not silly, rude and shocking questions Nigerian guys ask eg “are you a virgin?”.How did you know the guy asked the question in a silly and rude way? I am not trying to justify that the lady is lying, I am only stating that you and I do not have have enough premises to reach a conclusion. The British are tricker than any sapiens on our planet

The guy is a he-goat who thinks every gesture from a lady is seductive and an inviting sign for sexual activity.

In case you don’t know, most ladies in UK give you some smiles, chat and activities to make you feel very comfortable, that is the courtesy they have been trained to have since childhood, though fake and not sincere. If any lady does that in Nigeria, it will definitely be seen as a romantic invitation from a girl. That is the natural British way, unlike the American girls.

The foolish guy thought the lady was “falling” for him, hence the audacity to ask her that question.
The guy is even lucky that the lady didn’t report the case to the authority, then he will understand how to comport in a strange land

Many of you in Nigeria wouldn’t learn until you leave your country to go and disgrace and embarrass yourself and your generation in the western world
I think you are the one that is naive, British girls that will tell you who they slept with last night and the number of kids they have from different fathers without thinking twice? Same British girls that will meet you in a club and shag in the toilet? Same British babes that will tell a stranger they fantasize about a 3some? The babe was feeling the guy and she was just too ashamed to answer hence the reaction

etrange:
Actually, a monthly payment generally benefits the property owner more. Anyone that understands finance knows that the money at hand today is worth more than the same amount tomorrow. The money you pay him in January could get him a few extra bucks by December and this would help to counter the effect of inflation. Again, monthly payment almost always implies monthly lease contract as well. This also gives your landlord (and yourself) more flexibility. Any party can end the lease at any time (not always the case though).

On your side, it pays you more to hold on to your money as long as possible, provided the amount isn't subject to change by year end. This way, you can earn some interest on your money before giving out the principal. You just need to be principled enough to set it aside every month (this is why some companies delay salary payment).

But then again, it all depends on individual situations.

Yeah, but this is like eating your cake and still having it. A property owner that accepts monthly payment would want a monthly lease term as well.
you are thinking inversely. Have you forgotten that you pay rent upfront and not in arrears? So where is the benefit of paying yearly?

Personally I hate small frequent expenses. I will even prefer to save up and pay three years rent upfront and then remove it from my mind while I focus on other things.

I f**king hate small expenses. Like it's easier for me to pay 100k for a yearly internet subscription than for me to pay 5k monthly.
That is because you don't know how money works and you have not learned about the time value of money

To add - same with salaries most developed economies pay bi -weekly . We are stuck on monthly. People would owe other people till pay day especially December to January. Longest time between pay days. Just pay people every 2 weeks. It will reduce debts. And people can plan and have access to their money.
I work abroad and my pay is monthly

It's not idiotic to give a narrative that his secondary school should v been asked. Atiku thought it's only university degree of Tinubu that has discrepancies. When tackling issues like this, you must cross check every angle. Tinubu might probably distract the public with the result issue and it's Atiku that's causing it with his sore loser life. There's nothing Atiku is asking today that late Gani Fawehinmi hasn't asked in 1999.
I cannot disprove or contest something that you have not tendered. If President Tinubu had asked CSU to provide those documents to Gani, I don't there would be any issues. Sincerely I don't see what is wrong in allowing CSU release the documents. Unless he has skeletons in his cupboards

Den those asking for his university are mumus. Person must go secondary school before university. Did Tinubu do A-Level?
Seems PDP and LP don't know that Tinubu deliberately played some games to distract them. One of such game is the new note policy and naira scarcity saga coupled with emilokan. They were done to make it appear Buhari wasn't backing him.
To say PDP is a foólish party is an understatement. But LP now mumu pass PDP!
I do not involve myself much in politics, I only think rationally. If Tinubu had submitted his secondary school certificate there will be no course for alarm or his A-level as you stated. It is normal for you to have attended high school before university, but we need a proof of it which is the certificate. He tendered his degree which is good, however, his competitor is saying that there is a discrepancy and the discrepancy alleged by his competitor is weighty. Hence, the competitor is going to court to summon the school to release the original copy of theirs so that he can compare with what president Tinubu submitted to Inec. Now saying that Tinubu is playing a game with them is simply idiocy. Do you know the embarrassment it will cause you if someone is saying your certificate is forged?

Show each of them a picture of the other. Show the man first because rejection hits women differently. If the guy is interested then approach the woman and show her his picture and see what she thinks. Just let each one know that you think they’re well matched… If you know the guy is a fvck boi then have mercy on the woman and don’t link them up.

I once did hook up two people before... It was back in varsity when this other communications studies lecturer that I was close to asked me to hook him up with this other classmate of mine whom he once saw me with while we were walking to class.

In the beginning I didn't take him seriously, but he kept disturbing when he saw me and sometimes he'd even call me... He was in his late 20s, so he wasn't that old... I wasn't close to this classmate of mine, it just happened that we were walking together to class when he saw us.

At first, I didn't know how to approach her and break the news to her because she could already be in a relationship... One day I decided to wait for her after class and I broke the news to her, she asked that I tell her more about him and I did.. She didn't really seem interested until I told her that he did his tertiary education in Newcastle university in England.

I then gave the guy a feedback and he told me to bring the girl in his office after 4pm, he gave me the date for me to bring her and she also agreed... The day came and I brought the girl to his office and left... I was like "thank goodness, I'm finally free".. grin grin grin... Months later he left the country to further his studies in Cardiff university.

He returned a year later and I asked him about the relationship, he told me that he had to end it when he left the country because he can't go for more than two weeks without sex and he didn't want to cheat on her... I was really disappointed because he really kept disturbing me before I finally agreed to help him with the girl.

So if you want to hook up your two friends, you can do it, but make sure that there's a room for disappointments because things may not work out as you want them to.
yeah that's the point I don't know whom to tell first. They are both doing ok but I don't know how either will handle the rejection and how it may affect our acquaintanceship

I have a friend and a former colleague and I feel they will be suitable for each other. They are a bit close to me and both are matured. The guy has a daughter from his past relationship (his previous fiance was a German and she doesn't like the idea of visiting Naija...that was the bone of contention). The lady and I had worked previously in Naija before she relocated.

The question is, should I inform the lady first about the idea? Or should I tell the guy. Finally if there is a refusal will it affect my relationship with either of them? How would the rejected person look me in the face....or am I just overthinking?

Last week, I experienced one of the worst encounters in my 15 years of international travel. I was travelling from Abuja to the Swedish city of Gothenburg to attend the 2023 Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC). As with many destinations, there was no direct flight from Nigeria to Sweden. In the world of national carriers, Nigeria has decided to take a backseat and remain there. Hadi Sirika’s “Nigeria Air” seems to have a rather exclusive preference for its owner’s favourite destination – Addis Ababa!

My best option was to go through Europe or at least the Middle East, depending on your perspective of Turkey’s geographical placement. I settled for Turkish Airlines. An 11-hour journey, however, became 32 hours for me as the airlines continuously changed the departure schedule, forcing me to opt for the next day’s connecting flight. As a result, I had to endure a 23-hour layover at the Istanbul airport without the opportunity to explore the city.

After arriving in Istanbul at 6.30 a.m. local time, I rushed to the Turkish Airlines ticketing desk to change my ticket to the next available flight to Gothenburg, but I was told the only flight for the day had already commenced boarding and that there was no space for me.

“I’m afraid you have to wait for tomorrow morning’s flight as contained in your boarding pass,” a lady at the desk told me politely.

After exhausting all available options to change the ticket without success, I decided to get an entry visitor’s e-visa. The system was so simple. You approach an ATM-like machine and pay $50 if you have UK, US or Schengen passports or a Nigerian passport with any of the three valid visas.

It’s a system I had used before and figured I could give it another shot to enter Istanbul – a city I know fairly well having been there on five different occasions. I had planned to meet and greet a couple of ex-BBC colleagues now working with the Turkish broadcaster, TRT.

Little did I know, similar to the constant decline of the naira in my account since Bola Tinubu’s presidency began, my green passport has been rapidly devaluing. It no longer allows me to obtain a Turkish e-visa and has forfeited numerous privileges that holders once enjoyed in various countries.

I watched in dismay as the security personnel at the gate permitted a group of South Africans to pass through and access the e-visa point, informing me that the “Nigerian passport is not eligible.”

I didn’t ask why but later found out from a friend that a passenger travelling to the US through Istanbul was recently denied the opportunity to enjoy a free hotel accommodation because of his “Nigerian passport”. I gathered that they only permitted individuals with US passports to proceed and was also informed that, “Nigerians tend to frequently overstay or disappear when granted entry.”

After all the wahala and spending the night at an expensive airport hotel, I woke up very refreshed and ready for my flight. I was at the boarding gate almost 1.30 minutes before the departure. After a couple of minutes’ wait, we were called for passport screening ahead of the boarding. Two gentlemen from the Turkish Airlines were in charge. Things were going smoothly until it reached my turn.

One of the flight attendants glanced at my passport and my visa. He requested that I lift my face to allow him to verify my identity as the legitimate passport holder. Of course, it was my photo and the visa was valid. But that was not enough.

“Do you have a return ticket?”

In his mind, I was embarking on a “Japa” mission. Without hiding my displeasure, I simply told him to check their system to verify if I had a return ticket or not.

Then he started to sound apologetic, saying he just wanted my answer. “Sir, I only want you to say yes or no since I don’t have access to the computer now.”

The attendant moved over to a Filipino lady next to me. He asked her if she had a return ticket. She said yes and he moved on to the next person. At that moment, I was convinced that he had only asked her to demonstrate to me that he wasn’t profiling me.

While trying to avoid another round of profiling and passport issues, I refrained from going through the counter of the previous “racist” attendant. However, the second officer proved to be equally biased. As I approached him, he quietly confirmed from his colleague that he had already screened my passport in the local language, allowing me to board the 200-passenger plane, which had only three black passengers – I and two Somali immigrants with EU resident permits.

This annoying encounter at the Istanbul airport reminded me of another terrible incident that almost forced me to miss my return flight to New York from Tangia, Morocco. I was in Morocco in November 2019, to attend a Media Trust board retreat ahead of my resumption as editor-in-chief in January 2020. The Moroccan immigration officers allowed me to enter the country and stamped my passport knowing fully well that I was travelling from the US, only for them to ask me to wait for a few moments when I wanted to return to New York after four days of our retreat. I was left sitting in a small corner for nearly 30 minutes. Nobody asked any questions or demanded any documents or told me to do anything.

My thoughts swiftly gravitated towards the familiar culprits – my Nigerian passport and the upcoming journey to the US. After expressing my frustration to the airline staff and with the intervention of their supervisor, they extended their apologies and granted me permission to board and make my way back to New York.

I understand this isn’t a novel narrative, but why do the deeds of a handful of individuals persist in causing harm to everyone? The conduct and dispositions of Nigerians consistently cast a shadow over our nation’s reputation on a regular basis, and it appears that we have lost all hope of change.

It has led to visa bans in the UAE and restrictions in South Africa, Turkey and many other countries. The Japa syndrome has worsened the situation, but I strongly believe that we shouldn’t give up. In fact, this is the time to brace for change. The new Minister of Information and National Orientation should take the lead. It’s imperative that we restore our country’s tarnished reputation in the eyes of the world.
