gensteejay: Normally, I should ignore such a post filled with fallacies and empty argument as yours. But I wouldn't; so you think I should spend more than a decade of my life obtaining education just to take a two-dollar job from proud folks like you.
You are always quick to cast aspersion on any Nigerian using a foreign profile for their freelance service. You want a high-quality article and are not ready to pay the consumerate price. Can you offer such a low rate to an American or British writer? Talk of double-standard.
It is people like (Indians,Pakistanis are in your ilk) who force honest freelancers to fake their identities on the internet. Not that I support this act, but I must call a spade a spade and say no to exploitation.
Truly, life is in stages. However, paying at least N1500 for a 1000-word article is a fair deal.
Your posts here reek of arrogance. I frankly do not think that any American or British writer is better than a Nigerian writer. No Brit or Yankee speaks or writes English better than I do. If they are your yardsticks, they are not mine. Sorry. That is why I fly my proudly Nigerian flag everywhere. |

gensteejay: With due respect, your tone is condescending. Comparing the job of a writer to those menial jobs is a grave insult.
In writing, one has expend more of mental energy than physical. Writing entails critical and analytical thinking as well as stellar research ability. A good writer must be familiar with grammar rules too. All these require reading and studying for a writer to achieve tremendous result.
It is common knowledge that reading, critical thinking are acts which an average Nigerian finds difficult to engage in. Hence, putting those menial jobs you mentioned in the same category as writing is not only disparaging but also insulting.
It is not every graduate that's willing to do slave labor; and saying "[h]ave you not seen graduates who are gardeners and bus conductors?" doesn't make such notion the norm. So you think as a graduate, you are more important than those people who slave for you in your house as security men or gardeners or househelps? Are you aware that Mike Adenuga was once a taxi driver? Do you know that in one of the banks where I now maintain a very active domiciliary account, I have once sold stuff to bankers with unimaginable insults by gatemen and other bankers, many of whom now answer "sir" to me? People like you do not understand that life is in stages and phases. A graduate is not more important in a society than a menial worker. That is why countries like Germany that have understood this have structured their societies to harness everyone's strengths and they are soaring high. |

gensteejay: No disrespect to stagger, but paying N1000 (about $2.5) for a 1000-word article is slave labor, gross exploitation. How much do you pay your security man? Or your driver, or your cook or domestic helps? Have you not seen graduates who are gardeners and bus conductors? |

david290: This information might help someone. With the W-9 verification ish scammers are on the prowl. If you're a foreign freelance writer on Upwork, be VERY careful. Now this is how it works: They [scammers] post a promising (but actually phony) task and it all boils down to guiding you [the freelancer] into sending them a picture of yourself holding your ID plus giving out your W-9 details. The gist is they will go ahead to use these details to open different credit accounts. My thought is that it is these accounts that some unscrupulous elements are using to withdraw or help their patronizers to cash out having initially circumvented Upwork's rule that freelancer should register with their real location. If this doesn't bother you since they were supposed to use your details to open several accounts, consider identify theft and its gross consequences going forward. Be guided. If people can be truthful and register with their real locations, then this should be a non-issue, because the W-9 form is to be filled only by US citizens paying taxes to the IRS. |

Another question: what protectionist measures can one take against these herdsmen, seeing that in the dry season, they will be looking for vegetation more than ever before?
I would like to have ideas for the cheapest and most effective fencing method for securing 10 plots of land for ugu farming. |
Agriculture › Re: Dry Season Ugu Farming:Scope, Process,SWOT Analysis,And Contribution( Pics,Vids) by stagger: 12:57pm On Nov 04, 2016 |
Ejulafarm: I am replying the thread this morning because I took the morning hours off but will resume on the farm when the sun is down. So Lets get started
Seed Spacing:
This is a big factor when it comes to yield. The textbook and ideal recommendation is 1m * 0.5m Spacing. Ideally, this spacing is recommended so as to help plant root get the required nutrients without much fight.
Demerit of this spacing method: - Much land is required - Weed control is more pronounced compared to small spacing - More laborous
Merit - Better yield when compared to tight spacing
So Let me talk about the other spacing which is usually adopted by most farmers I have come across. Let's call this "Management Spacing".
The Management spacing is roughly 1.5ft by 1ft. I am adopting this for my planting. As you already know, we have demerit and merit for this.
Merit - Easy and better management of Land - Easy control of weed compared to the "ideal" spacing - Less labour
Demerit - High competition for soil nutrients between plant roots
This demerit can be effectively managed by making sure there's no lack of nutrients in the soil by the effective application of organic or inorganic fertilizer.
I prefer organic because of longer shelf live for ugu leaves. More on this later.
Food for thought:
4000 seeds is needed to fully cover an acre of Land using the ideal spacing method
But it is good to note that 4000 seeds can be effectively managed in just two plots by employing the management spacing technique. And the same yield will be achieved if you reduce the competition for soil nutrients by plant roots.
I hope this help. Any addition will be made as we progress.
Mind blown Segment
An acre of Ugu farm can yield over 600,000 Naira with setup cost of #250,000 in a space of 3 months in the raining season. What do you think will be the yield in the DRY season? I can't wait to find out more about your irrigation techniques and how much it costs to set this up. Kudos. |

It is just a pity that lies, deceit and the desire to keep circumventing the rules is in our DNA as Nigerians. Look at how a noble plan by Victor101 to empower youths has been grossly abused.
I am still awaiting when Upwork takes a radical decision regarding Nigerian Upworkers. Then I will make my move to root out everyone that was responsible for it. So all of you who think you can continue to cheat on tests, use false identities and fake profiles from the US, I would advise you all to pray very hard. The end for you all on Upwork is near. |

Dfinex: So what exactly is the church doing for the society if they won't repair the roads that they use, when even corporate organizations who pay tax don't hesitate in carrying out corporate social responsibilities ?
U sound like those fellows who will drive their range rovers and Fords, spoil the street with these heavy cars and wait for the govt to come and fix it or those that will dump their refuse on the streets and wait for sanitation agencies to come clean it up. How on earth can we develop with this kind of mindset? who is government by the way? is it not u and I, if we contribute our own little quota won't it go a long way in making the nation better?
when the missionaries came with their free education, we all enjoyed it and we never bothered about funding, we never told them that it was supposed to be govt responsibility. now someone is suggesting we do same and we are screaming blue murder.
I may not subscribe to it being totally free but the exorbitant fees these church schools are collecting is something else . Oya naa. Go and put your children in free school from church. As for me, I know my responsibilities as a man and I cannot bring children into the world and expect a church to train them for me for free. |

Elxandre: But the schools were built with tithes and offering. We all know many of the mega churches generate millions of dollars every year, so asking for Free education from them isn't wrong.
Besides, churches spend nowadays spend several million dollars building newer auditoriums, despite owning massive ones already. Is that the priority in a nation as impoverished as Nigeria? Even if the school was built with tithes and offerings, I maintain it again: ANY MAN WORTH HIS SALT SHOULD BE ABLE TO PAY FOR HIS KID'S EDUCATION AND NOT WAIT FOR FREE SCHOOLS FROM ANYWHERE, CHURCH INCLUDED! The responsibility of ending poverty in a society is the government through effective policy formulation. It is not the responsibility of any church to do so. Go to Ota. Winners built the roads around there. Redeemed had to repair a portion of a Lagos-Ibadan express road. The list goes on and on; churches doing what govt ought to be doing. Is that not why people voted for APC? And you say churches give nothing back to society. Winners gave out food and money to civil servants in Osun state while the governor there was feeding fat from his school feeding contract and was owing his workers 9 months pay. |
