Programming goes beyond making a program just work but being able to work in a team environment and the best way to do that is by being certified to demonstrate you understanding of standard coding ethics.

Yes. If you stand side by side with a certified programmer, it is the certificate that will give a potential employer clue as to who can do what. Your portfolio too is good but not a certificate.
A combo of some works and a certificate is best. It shows you didn't cram and demonstrate what you can do.

So far I have been a screen alert to make sure I see my function is working fine. Which it is but need to sort out these 2 mentioned above.

I know Programming is a skill-based job and it's one's skill that matters the most, but I've seen some programmers getting certifications and all that. While others don't have any.

So does it really matter?
