A bad laptop will show its true colour within a month. Look at it this way, mishandling got the OP here. I got my back up laptop (a Lenovo T420) from a Nairalander I had never seen his handle until someone mentioned him. Chatted with him and sent him the money for the laptop. We met without introduction, got my laptop and walked away. The laptop in itself is a UK used laptop and I got it for N32,000.

My point? Vendors are not necessarily demons or demonic just because what one bought from them went bad. OP's laptop overheated and went off, shikena. It is not because the vendor who sold it to him sold him a defective laptop. Bad devices can't be managed no matter how you view it. And a month is too much to manage one.

There is no mishandling that can render a laptop unusable in one month except you are swimming with it or slamming it hard on the ground. Which Op never did. He just didn’t get a good laptop. Case closed, no argument on that. Mishandling is not a topic in this op case.

Meanwhile one month is a no-no for a newly fixed laptop to show it fault and if it does, users are likely to ignore early signs. It is always a sure bet to give user one month.

For second hand laptops, one month is just necessary to prevent bad buyer from sampling all the laptop in your shop due to trivia problems that aren’t even problems but for a vendor with solid work ethics, he or she would always provide alternative for his/her buyers when heavy and genuine fault develop or at worst try to get things working at some extra charge.

I saw a legit.ng news today on a guy writing code on paper and learning. It really gave me hope that there's no excuse for me.
I don't know but I don't think it is good to continue spending on the laptop again. That was not why I came here. It is a very painful decision to make but it is best I manage the phone's tools (ascode, grasshopper and programming hero)and you guy's guidance until I possibly get some jobs doing and patch myself up.

As a guy who learnt with phone at some point, I would advise that it ain't worth it. You should only use it in extreme case as yours, but as for getting jobs done, it is highly and unlikely you will ever get any job done using phone. So if you want to do some real stuff, while learning with phones and pdf, get a laptop.

Yesterday midnight (Sunday), while I was using my Acer laptop, brushing up on JavaScript & jquery (by Jon Duckett or so), next thing was my laptop went off totally. I touched the bottom:- it was really hot. I took it towards the veranda, brought broomstick, tried battery reset:- unsuccessful. I opened the internal part, started fanning it. After 20 mins:- still unsuccessful. I went online with night browsing plan, searched and searched: some said "press power button with battery and charger unplugged", I did that. Some said "turn upside down while pressing power button", some said"remove CMOS battery and replace in 20mins", some said"press fn and escape buttons while turning on..."- I did all that yet unsuccessful. I tried contacting Acer on Twitter, the guy managing the account (Dann) said buying a new motherboard of 75k was the only option. And I had spent 100k+ in repairs since Aug 2019 that I got the laptop for 130k here on Nairaland. I am down. Just returned from a stroll where cars almost knocked me down -TWICE!!!

Please, I need help NLers please. I use an itel feature phone but "perch" on my sister's techno w3. Please tools, links, apps: help me. I currently have no tools except one :- my ability to learn and relearn where possible. I am not a novice either. And I am not backing out from programming... WE DIE HERE!. It is way difficult to get a quality laptop than to win naija bet, chances of getting a quality laptop is very low in Nigeria, yet people don't still understand this simple fact.
Reason is because most laptop buyer lack little or no info about how a good laptop looks like or what could be a bad laptop either.
And secondly it is far easier for vendors to make profit selling bad laptop they buy cheap than to sell laptops they bought with quality price.
Bad laptops circulate about 4x than good laptops since they are generally cheaper and afforadable and such sells fast

How to get a good laptop.
Incase you don't have the technical knowledge of laptop engineering then
1. Buy a new one fresh from the laptop manufacturer or from verified suppliers of the manufacturer
3. Buy from a friend you know the history of his/her laptop
2. Buy from a trusted laptop vendor reffered to by a friend or someone who has trading history of such vendor.

I specifically was reffering to the welfare of the children, wether you're strong or not, polygamy is a very full time business, sounds fun at the beginning but when your sex drives are over and responsibilities kicks in, then you would understand what polygamy means in modern world. Good evening, I wrote this because I am just tired to keep explaining the kind of work laptop does to people around. Why is it that people always think negatively about those using Laptop? I am a programmer that work remotely from home but whenever people come around the first thing they ask is "Am I also into yahoo?" If it looks like fraud then it sure could be fraud.
Aside their myopic view of people with laptops, you and I know they aren’t the problem only.

Many guys with laptop also engage in fraudulent activities in the cover up they are graphic artist or computer geek where we know it isn’t it.
Especially in this part of the world, what I am against is seeing a complete stranger and calling them fraudsters because of how they look or what they carry, when you have no background info about them. But when you have the background about them then you're 70% going to be right

But as for people I have stayed with I can randomly select the ones who are yahoo guys the moment I see them with a laptop.

So in conclusion, in this part of the world, if you say 10 boys with laptop are into internet fraud, then chances you’re 5/10 right as much as you have little background info about them. So there is no really argument to defend the act of suspecting a laptop carrier as a yahoo guy because he likely could be.

Note: I am in no way saying anyone has to persecuted on basis he/she carries a laptop, I am only saying it is understandable for someone carrying to be more of a suspect of internet fraud as it most time a 50/50 chance

it is really technical, I am still learning JS as I speak. But what you concentrate on is how to use your small acquire skill on a practical level. What problem can you now solve should be your watch work. Learning is very active in JS. It runs at light speed. JS is too fast for anyone to catch up with all its ability.

Anyway I read technical books only, I am rereading “You don’t know Js” series.
I also recommend you watch YouTube videos on specific concept you don’t understand.
I don’t mean anyhow video or series but specific video on technical concept.
After watching it, find a way to use in any practical way for proper solidification.

yes they do a lot of damn.
Most times you work with other devs and you also work on an already existing software.

Most company software were built using PHP and MySQL and paying PHP and MySQL dev is a little cheaper compare to node since you find them a lot. Also due to the age of PHP and MySQL your coders are likely to find solution to challenging problems unlike Node and other languages

Wordpress theme development isn't just coding frontend. It's the whole package. If you are using react to build out wordpress frontend pages then you need Nodejs to create the pages, pagination, routes et al statically . If you are doing wordpress as a monolithic system then you would be using PHP a lot. Inserting data from the database. Deleting data from the database. Using JavaScript and jQuery to manipulate the DOM. Pulling in custom functions from plugins. Where's the minimalistic code there?

As for plugins I didn't bother learning to make them. I am instead learning to build applications on another platform. Anything can be done with determination especially once someone has learnt the basics.

I build Wordpress themes and I do VueJs so I understand what you’re talking about. Anyway it’s fine. A stand-alone project is much more easier to land you dream job than the one with dependency on a CMS. I am talking from the view point of an HR.

As from the coding aspect. It is nice and ok. For senior devs all this don’t matter because all they see is portfolios and projects you work on, no soul concentrate on which and which CMS it is tied upon. Not so for young dev.

I made a comment but my real account got banned by the spambot. I also used to think that the market for this technologies was saturated but that's so not true at all. People who can do real development in this platforms are very few. Let's take Nigeria for instance. How many Nigerian developers can build a custom WordPress theme from.the ground up or a custom WordPress plugin. If they could, why I am not seeing Nigerian code products on envato.

My mentor then was advising me as you are doing now. I should learn the trendy things. Immediately I finished react I was learning Nodejs but when I go online I would see like 2 node jobs which are for senior developers and I would see hundreds of wordpress and php work. I am talking about advanced things in wordpress. Extending plugin functionality, adding functionality to a theme and all of that. I dumped that node and learnt PHP the basics then moved into wordpress theme development. I l learnt to build wordpress themes from scratch with wordpress as a monolithic system and with wordpress and React which isn't easy trust me. The wordpress theme I had built got me two jobs with foreign marketing agencies but I had to be let go as the internet speed here is horrible and part of the job involves duplicating sites of over 100 gigabytes and working on them. Those jobs paid 15 and 8 USD per hour respectively. The interviews for these jobs for also very easy and minimalistic. My present job I didn't even apply to it. They saw my wordpress React theme online and gave me a call and a job. Mind you I haven't even been coding for up to a year o.

I wasted like two months learning Nodejs but I haven't even spent up to 3 months with wordpress and php. I still can't build plugins yet but I can build themes. It's much better for a junior developer who needs a job and money to learn to develop in those platforms as the developers who can do custom work there are few. A lot of people think it's just drag and drop. It's more than that o. Once you know HTML CSS, JavaScript and one JavaScript Framework it's fucking easy to pick up something like Shopify or wordpress. Those platforms do a lot of your backend work for you and take away a lot of the abstraction that comes to backend development.

I understand you clearly but if you advise just coding frontend for Wordpress then it is just similar to the advise I was giving. The truth is that plugin and theme development are quite technical especially for young dev to wrap around at the beginning. Maybe it was different for you, but I don’t see it any easier than coding from scratch plain html, css, Vue or React frontend applications.

For plugin development, you need some technical knowledge to build one. I know this for sure because I do plugin development.

In conclusion I think CMS isn’t a place fit for young dev in the long run. I think plain vanilla codes and doing things from scratch is the best fit for anyone who looks forward to a great development career.

As for PHP vs NodeJS. PHP has the far job opportunities, like it is too wide of a gap, and it was same reason it I have never moved to Node since I see no reason to it, meanwhile if you wanna earn with node, you need patience to learn things deeply, else no one will pay you.
