Programming › Re: 5 Projects A Junior Developer Should Have In Their Portfolio To Get Hired Fast by stanliwise(m): 8:16am On Jan 17, 2021 |
Not trying to downplay on your post but for a company looking out for a potential dev. They usually frown at using CMS for young dev.
Reason is because young devs are fond of just doing theme and plugin installations when it comes to CMS , since they lack deep understand to make their own code, and companies need people who can sit down with some raw lines of code and do things. While CMS is a must for anyone who wants to make quick money especially in the freelance world, writing the actual code for CMS doesn’t sound like the job of a junior developer.
If a young dev start out coding Wordpress plugins, Shopify or magneto then I am quite sure almost none of them would be usable, reason being that the market for those CMS are just too saturated with devs for many things you can think of and I wonder who will use your own plugin.
Shopify and magneto is a bit a complicated for young dev to start jumping at, I will advise young dev to focus on just plain simple and functional website with minimalistic codes |

Killertune20: Bro, I understand your point exactly, but the youtube thing is just for a few naira, can't give me the kind of money I need, on the other hand, coding will, and more sef, infact, I dream to own a biggest tech company in africa in the next 10 years, I'm considering paying someone to build an app for me for now while I take my time to learn app development and create youtube contents.
All I really need is to know mobile app development and nothing more, I can't be in the business of tech and not know anything about it, so I have chosen flutter cause most of the apps are MVPs and when I settled finally I will pay for a more technical and or advanced coders, thanks my passion anyways, and also cause it will make me money, I don't want to coding to apply for job anywhere. Simply start like this What do I need to know to make this app atleast the basic way I can? What Do I currently know and can do? What can I learn? What part should I leave out for now? Meanwhile the above question are traps, they are not easy to answer, as you go further you begin to see different way to answer them. But what should get you going is that at the end of the day you would not remain the same. This is why I spoke about not looking at the money of a thing and focus on what transformation would happen to you if you choose the YouTube path or coding path. As for being happy at the long run, it depends on the big picture of your plan towards the future, if f being rich in the nearest future, let’s say 2-3 years from now, let me not deceive you. Software dev is very tricky. Thread with care. As for YouTube it depends on your sense of and ability to market what you do and how to catch people, I don’t do that so Can’t say much. If the big picture is to become a great tech guy like in 2years from now with consistence you shall be there but not necessarily with the money because 2 - 4 are people who have potentials but needs the spark to explode. If it for the money let’s say 4- 7 years from now with hardworking you’re guaranteed if you put dedication to it. You would have contacts to call for your expertise. So it depends on the patience your big picture carries. |

Killertune20: Thanks for your contribution sir, the passion is actually with the money, that's why I'm a bit confused, I will task myself and decide, thank you sir. Until you understand that wealth are majorly by redistribution then you would begin to reconsider your statement. The money you want is with someone somewhere, except you plan to collect the money forcefully or by fraud then the only way out is for you to make your self valuable for anyone to transfer that money to you. If not then forget it. Last time I checked no one pay anyone who has passion for money, simply because they really do nothing useful to the society rather than mayhem. Lastly, I have only seen few people who made it big with lack of passion, just few. Proverbs 23:5 Have a Good day |

Killertune20: This question is a bit crazy, but guys, at this point in my life, I'm confused, I have tons of service rendering apps I want to build, but I can't pay to build them, the app builders keep calling huge sums, 400k and above, even though the apps are MVP apps, I thought of getting a system to learn programming too, not only because of building the apps but because I want to learn mobile app development, been using my phone to watch so many tutorials for a long while now.
On the other hand, I have a friend who owns a digital camera, infact he is a videographer, I intend to partner with him and produces short comedy videos for youtube, I believe if I can use 100k or more for ads, I can attain monetisation and from there keep consistency, truth is, I can't do both, cause I won't master any if I should, they both require hard work and consistency, truth is, I'm also hoping one thing will take me out of this country one day (my japa season )
Someone please talk some sense into me, like I'm tired and frustrated, I hate chasing many things at a time and end up not achieving one. What you are asking for is a strategy. And to be candid the best bet is you, that can truly advice yourself. I would advise between YouTuber and coding you should pick the one you are truly made for, which of them comes intuitively to you? If programming is only just to build your app, omo forget it and pay the money when you are a bit comfortable. If being a youtuber is a dream then go for it and forget programming, both of them are very demanding. Except you wanna start a programming channel where you teach what you code. For my I feel you should stay where the passion is for now. |

Men, if you like keep allowing yourselves to be deceived by your male friends and men like angelfrost and stanliwise that abuse from women whether physical or verbal is how women are.
Men, stop looking at women as harmless creatures that won't hurt you or a fly. Women are very capable of harming anyone; physically, verbally, psychologically, emotionally. If you know all these, then as a man be on guard, treat women with the same suspicion you treat your fellow men. Do this and you wouldn't have need to go about shouting "fear women", and you would be prepared to counter any nonsense from any woman, while reducing the window through which women can harm you.
Know this today, there are women that don't nag, there are women that are not abusive, there are women that are docile and gentle. There are women that are God fearing. I dont understand, where did I preach violence or deceive men? |

codeigniter: Some of you guys knows that I started a web development project title Africonn last year from scratch which is very rare cos I could have gotten a script or something already made. It took a while but I sure do enjoy it, this during this I learnt this hard truth about programming that I would like to share.
2. Programming may be fun at the beginning when u start learning these stuffs but the moment u started getting paid to code it become an horror, an act that lead to a very depressing life cos I) no matter how fast learning you are the deeper u go the more u will need to learn, there is really no end to learning this things which can land u to tutorial hell, imposter's syndrome, burnout and other programming self taught maladies.
II) I learnt that things are not as Rosy people taught the industry was, if u see a job of 250k, d person who will eventually get d job might be eventually paid 100k, why? oversaturation, some experience people are willing to short pay themselves to get job and employer do take advantage of this.
III) YouTube made the programming market worse, people like cleverprogrammer made it seems like when u know how to program ur financial problem is over, in fact u are just getting started, shey u fit invert a binary tree. The deeper u go the more u get trapped by imposter's syndrome, this guys are cashing out massively from a this motivation + programming stuff.
2. Don't do startup. I will keep dis short, if ur idea is not going to start generating u cash as soon as u acquire ur first customer don't do it.
3. Burnout is very much real, when I was making the site I think like hell, On the way to get a feature done and then how to optimize it, all this tasks are brain juice demanding. Yeah but u might say why not do other things, yeah u can try other things by why doing that ur subconscious mind is going to be solving d problem u abandon and everynow and then u will come of with solutions that will try to take you back to ur work space
4. Learn design patterns and user story planning, at least it will make you code organize and u won't spend minutes looking for files u want to debug
5) finally learn new tools that will make ur work easier, don't get stuck any high level tool, framework or library. Use or learn what u need.
I will emphasis this if u are an experience dev don't start a project from scratch and forget optimizing until the soup is cooked. There are a lot more but this are the things I thought could be of help to other people
I created this survey/polls to know whether burnout had to do with experience
https://www.africonn.com/polls/poll/?title=How-old-are-you-in-tech-and-have-you-got-to-the-verge-of-quitting-due-to-stress&value=6
Check out the site and sign up www.africonn.com I can relate to what you’re talking about, Building task from scratch can become hell before you know it. And been on a Job can get your feet shaky especially when you are told you are going to be building something that is going to be very critical app e.g a banking payment system. It dawns on you that the success and woes falls on your shoulders. My advice is that having a great team with experienced people who would allow you to fail gracefully and would push you to do the task beyond your ability with shock absorbers incase things got south or you get stuck. |

One obvious way out is society consciousness toward public interest. If me and you starts to speak up against the state of our present community and majority of people in the society put hands together and call the responsible people to order. Then and only then we can have a good and healthy Society. All this white wash talk and gloating with hope of better future we did not create ain’t taking us anywhere. |

dometome: Hello guys, I have been learning HTML, CSS And JavaScript for a long time. I want to create content, will you watch the videos? For example I just created a small word game app, if you have played Bully, published by Rockstar, you will remember the word mini game in it. Where you are given a word, the letters of that word are scrambled. You have to choose the letters and spell other words, from the main word. For example. MELLOW is shuffled, from it you can spell low, mew, well, owl, owe etc. In my own version, you don't type the letters with the keyboard, you select the letters using your mouse by clicking the letters. If you spell one of the words correctly, the computer displays that word in another section of the screen, there is also a reshuffle button, in case you make a mistake, if time allotted to you, runs out, time up is displayed, then the game restarts, you also have a section of the screen that keeps track of how many words left and how many you have found. So guys tell me what is in your mind. This question would have been better if you have done it and handed us the link. Go build it and come back! |

What if a woman comes plain and tell her husband she is pregnant for another man, would he accept it if the woman would foot the bills? Answer is No!, due to tradition, stigma and societal pressure he must chase her away. So in Africa it is not acceptable that is the simple answer, let us forget the bills and other talks. We don’t accept such in African society is the bone of the matter. Others are excuses. |

Dpsychologist: Its seems this paternity fraud issue is now Trending on NL.
If a husband Impregnates his woman aside from his wife. Even though it is not right, his wife has no business in raising the child, it solely the man's responsibility.
However, if a wife got pregnant from a man apart from her husband. The women will never have an intention of taking care of the child herself but will try to deceive the man into believing the child was his, that is why it is called paternity fraud.
No man should be made to take care of a child that is not his. It is called paternity fraud because of the deceit, some men aren’t the one footing the bills all the time. In Africa it is a very big problem for the women not necessarily because of the bills. It is not traditionally acceptable and naturally it doesn’t come down easy to us men. That is the truth. Meanwhile the lady in question is being sarcastic, She is trying to pull the reaction due to maybe gender related. |
