While I'm not here to defend the church and the manner they chose to do their inculturation or celebrate their cultural heritage, this could be their reason for choosing to do it inside their Church building:

They understood that their people have this juju-based fear towards masquerade. They understood that their people believe that their God is most powerful and the church building is his domain. In other words, their most powerful God can defend them from whatever power the masquerade supposedly has. Then, I proposed a test similar to what Elijah used to prove that his God was superior to Baal. If you are ready for that test, I will be very happy to witness it.
