Another thing that is required before Nigeria can have gun society is combat training schools. These are schools which organise combat courses and regular combat games to train aspiring gun owners on rules of engagement, stealth, precision shooting and weapon controls, weapons re-assembly, weapons recognition, Night assault, defensive attacks, disarming technique, rescue /retrieve tactics, evasive techniques e.t.c

These skills are needed to for actualization of a decent, sensible and tolerant armed populace otherwise we will just have a bunch of hillbilly cowboys shooting everything in sight.

Countries like South Africa have different types of gun schools and competitions;

Gun Ranges; This are for beginners, this is where you get to shoot a gun for the first time. You basically learn how to shoot various weapons (mostly handguns) in a stationary position.

Combat school: This is where you learn to handle a combination of handguns, assault rifles and grenades (smoke grenades are used for safety) . They also teach you how to work in a team. Please not that this is not a military school. This is a private combat school where private individuals can go to learn tactical offensive and defensive skills. You have weekday classes and weekend classes.

Combat games range: These games are organized by the combat schools. They usually have a large expanse of land that could span for miles. You will be grouped into a group of 10 each. Each of you will have an arm band which will carry the logo of your group. You will be tasked to start from the beginning of the range and cross over to the other side and acquire a particular object (sometimes a dummy hostage) without being killed. In this situation you will be provided with paint bullet which will splatter red pain on your uniform if you are hit by it indicating that you have killed in combat.

Shooting Competitions: These are for extremely skilled marksmen; it is a competition where the best of the best accurate shooters come to compete against each other. The most accurate shot wins the competition

I totally agree with you,not just owning a gun but mastering the act of using it properly to avoid accidental discharge and accurate targeting.

And to all those asking,if its a good idea of having a gun in Naija, imagine you sleeping in your bedroom and someone boys high on weed enters your compound and subject you to all kind of humiliation and maybe take turns with the females around you, how would you feel? If you had a defense weapon, you would surprise them and don't forget to eliminate the intruder for once cos there is no regrouping or coming back, period!

In a country,where police come after every robbery, what do you expect? I would surly own one,if i plan to stay in Naija for Defensive purpose only!, so its in my house, i mean a good Double barrel cos it create unimaginable hole to the skull and the receiver on the other end is dead,forever!

Only a metal can straighten a metal,so if they come and you were able to snipe one or two,they would know,its not that easy to cross you line of action.

If you can own a gun in Naija,please do,it would spare you a nightmare of seeing some people around you be humiliated.

Try this option, i once had such similar issue with my HP dv6850el and the customer service told me that, i had to switch off the laptop and remove the battery and hold the power source button (on/off button) for like 5 mins.

After 5 mins i would plug it directly to the power source and turn off the laptop and it functioned well but Be careful not to remove the cable from the power source,so as not to loose all the data on your laptop as the battery is not present.

After an hour i switched off the laptop and inserted the battery and also the power source and everything worked well.

Try and operate the laptop without the battery and connect directly to power source, if it works fine,then its a battery problem, also see if the ventilation is not blocked, its a common problem with many laptop to make everything freeze as it gets hotter.

Betting company might cause more harm than good to our league because some of the refs don't have a mind of their own, so that might be a problem.

You are right there but sponsorship deals ($$$) and the rule of law would cage them,take German leagues for example,if you get caught its a life ban and prison terms, so its a 2 way sword but i don't think all referees would be that bad to sell all the matches as many still love the game and aiming higher to coordinate international matches under FIFA.

With a good justice system,these things done in European football can also be done in Naija, Have you ever thought ,why so many people watch football in England, i mean at stadiums

Many put money on their teams and hope they win, some even pay the stadium fees with money won from gambling, so there is money in circulation from the sport.

You are right there, they all worship European leagues,which the Europeans don't care,if we live talk less of viewing our football.
I bet,if 5 companies like Glo,Zain,Shell,Oando,Chevron and Dangote should contribute and sponsor the league,you would be surprised,how motivated and goals would fall like water.

Most players there are afraid of injury,so they play less and most matches end with less than 3 goals, in Seria A last week a match ended with more than 7 goals as the teams played like,if it was the world cup finals.

As a northerner reading this article really hurts, dont blame the writer though, its obvious he is a tribalist, cos I feel whatever is happening today in this country cant be directed to a region alone, Yes I admit there are areas we northerners must address, I feel the writer has failed to highlight the problems of his own people.
What baffles me with this jos case is that the areas d so called indigens are mostly Hausa-Fulani named (anguwan rimi, nassarawa, gada biyu etc) clearly describing the contribution of the so-called settlers to the development of these areas, economically they have been dominant.
It is obvious that the Hausa-Fulani have contributed immensely to the development of jos and Nigeria as a whole, just as I see every other Tribe in this country.

Go to Walmart and the Technical department they surly have some cool teddy bear and inside a wireless camera that could run on batteries for days. (If they could sell guns,then such cameras are small issue )

He also asked for Compensation for pollution in the Niger-delta but the FG thinks its a normal thing to destroy and deprive people from their means of livelyhood, About a week ago in Northern Italy,There was an Oil spill from a Refinery and it enter the famous river Po, as for now, people are worried about the damage it would cause to the Ground water and other aquatic life living in and around the River.

Why did i bring that up? when i saw it on TV, it remind me of Niger-Delta and i came to my senses,that no one even care about the unending gas flaring and water pollution in the Niger Delta.


As a reminder,its only in Nigeria people get punish for trying to do or make things right, Asari,Ribadu,el Rufai and thousands of others in detention in various government center across Nigeria.

We need a revolution and start supporting such leader cos its our only Hope.

I remember those days in the late 80's and early 90's when the phrase '' Bobo ti ja '' was very popular in Nigeria. In my area of Lagos then, Ikeja/Omole to be specific, it was common to hear of one of the guys in the area who had travelled to Europe or America. As soon as a dude travelled out, the news would spread around the hood. From Barber Shops to Snooker joints, guys would be discussing how Ben Or Fatai was hustling in Germany, England or Spain. Poverty was hammering guys and their families then. I remember those days of pain and hunger. Everyone was looking for a way out of the crazy situation. Before you know it, some of the guys who travelled out will start helping their families. I don't how they got to Europe That's not my concern here, but I usually notice that their family houses suddenly gets a new coat of paint. Then two good cars would appear in the compound. Ben's dad will suddenly start to cruise around the neighbourhood in a Mercedez Benz V-booth or Clean Toyota Car. Fatai's dad will soon become the talk of the area as he starts building another house in their compound.

Fatai and Ben will out of love drop their numbers with some of the guys in the area. Pronto, dudes will call and ask Ben and Fatai how they did it. Then some months later, we would wake up to the news that Femi and Shina had found their way to Austria and Belgium Other guys in the area will start planning their own departures. Some will place their hopes in the Green Card lottery with fasting and prayers.  A few of the guys who were university and Polytechnic Students got killed due to cult activities. After about 5-6 years, Fatai and Ben will suddenly reappear in Nigeria. They have changed physically and speak with a strange accent. Fatai came back with a white wife and mongrel kids. He has gotten his permanent residence in Holland. Ben on his part had claimed asylum in Spain and had been granted Spanish papers. Femi and Shina were still battling their way out in Europe with Shina moving to Ireland to get his papers there.  Some guys got deported and a few were jailed for drug trafficking in Europe.

These days things have changed and the Embassies of European countries have toughened up their visa requirements. Oluwole documents are not helping much these days. One thing I noticed is that there is much awareness about travelling nowadays. I meet guys that travelled back in those days from time to time and they are doing well now. Some of them are now British, Irish, Spanish, German and Austrian citizens. I also know some dudes that did not leave Nigeria but they are successful businessmen and professionals in Nigeria.  I also happen to know guys who are in Europe with permanent residence and EU status who are not doing well at all. They're  fathering children all around England like rabbits. Some of them have spiritual and mental issues.

The painful thing is that Nigeria today is in a worse situation than the Nigeria of the 80's and 90's. The standard of living of Nigerians is not getting any better.  That is why I think the exodus of Nigerians to Europe and North America  will at the end of the day turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Nigeria. We just need a good leader who wants to change things and who has the support of the Governors and Ministers. If the electricity and security problems of Nigeria is solved, half of Nigerians abroad [ irrespective of their status ] will jump on the next flights home. What we should be thinking of is how to use forums like Nairaland to bring a change to the Nigerian polity. Do you know the change we can make if 60% of Nigerians abroad can donate £20/$20 each to Pat Utomi's campaign machine or to a serious party that wants to change things? This is how the Iranians and people of Tibet are helping to bring democracy and autonomy to their countries. These are issues we need to start thinking and debating about on Nairaland.  God bless us all wherever we are. Amen.

How i wish many people using this forum could see sense in your comment and start a continuation from it but many are busy trading word on unnecessary issues here.
I would ask a BIG question, Is it not time people stop immigrating from Nigeria to Europe or US? don't think am against immigration but there are many Options.
For how long,would we continue on this mass immigration for survival?
Are we not ashamed to feed on other peoples Economy?


I could give you stories of,where SSS2 Students are ready to abandon school and go to Italy for "*Work", there are many teenagers roaming the streets of Italy engaging in all sought of vices for the survival of their families back in Nigeria,Why?

I don't know about,where you reside in Europe but if you live here(Italy) as a Nigerian, you would be preferred to be called a Ghanian than a Nigerian as for the bad reputation attributed to the nation called Nigeria not to talk of you Showing a Nigerian passport.

On naijapals.com i had to loose control for 3 days replying to one topic and verbally attacking a Nigerian guy,who claimed to be a PhD in Accounting and begs in supermarket all day as he complained that Italians are racist,meanwhile he begs to fed everyday and proud of it as a Nigerian on the forum.

As for me, i know Nigerians are proud people and such a guy must be ask,if he could ever do such things back home.


Why all this issue drives me crazy is this, What examples are been laid for the future generations? Just to grow up and immigrate to another country and live illegally? What's life in this?

Please, i see we have close opinion in problems affecting Nigerian youth in Nigeria, lets come together with the use of IT and enlighten them about all the dangers of believing in traveling and making it big, There is no place like home.
Remember ,if we do this, we would be contributing to the development in a small but significant way,that would prevent further embarrassment of the Nation in foreign countries.

I know the youth all need resources to live and stay out of poverty but must we all engage in vices such all illegal immigrants to survive? No!

Its true,some kings are walking on foot and slaves riding on horses.
Nigerians think much about material things and thats why many dont have stay in Europe.
An example, many Nairalanders would not know that as at Sept 2009 the Italian government approved a law for about 350,000 unregistered worker in Italy (Illegal immigrant working as care give and assistant) to be given the right to be legal and all they have to do is make someone sign a work contract for then for a maximum of 40hrs per week and a payment of 500 euros as fee for the givers.

Why am i saying this, there are lots of Nigerians in my city with all the requirements to help those,who are not legal but they intend tell you to provide huge sum like 5000 euros up wards or your hear a fkucing comment * I wan help my brother for naija come*  

Anyway, i myself know a way of dealing with such people, whenever there so called brother or relatives comes, i refuse to give any assitance of work cos then they remember that, you can be of help to their brother, lol.

All i want to say is that , sometimes our pride destroy us as a people,why not help others here but prefer to laugh them cos of tempoary situation of life.

@Poster, overstay is a problem  here in Italy, there is a law that would get you arrested immediately after much immgration of people enroute Libya, Before its was a thing of you getting a Job and behave yourself.

I know of people getting arrested as at 3 year back without any criminal record and after 15hrs maximum,they let you go to present yourself later but people dont respect it cos they also know you wont show up, but if you do, my guy they would buy you a ticket to Lag, i mean MM Lagos

Don't know much about this but if your heart say go for it,then do your research well and you would surly succeed.
I watch one documentary last month on TV in Italy and i wanted to become a farmer instantly, saw in Kenya they were planting Flower (I mean like Roses and stuff like that), they export these flowers to make lot of money as Oyinbo man like flowers so much.

Do you research well, Nigeria has the climate for such e.g Plateau state. The is no useless career in this world as there is always a place you would fit in.

First, i would state a famous saying, "its not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".

We must not let the government do all the work for us,they are just a few elements,who are ruling the country but we the ordinary citizens of Nigeria must contribute alot to the success and development of the country or we would only trade blame on the internet forums about Bad governance and Corruption.

If i may ask the following schooled abroad and returned home to help the country in so many ways, Late Chief Gani Fawehimi (sam), Professor Wole Soyinka, just to mention a few.

Talk of Gani, i missed his so much in November 2009,when the President flew to an unknown destination,if he was alive,there would have been like 20 suit filed by him and like 300 different protests not to talk of uncountable interviews in the media,

He had some foreign education and used it to contribute greatly to the legal system of Nigeria. (We need more of him now).

I know, its a sacrifice leaving a country with all the good things of life but lets not forget the country you live in right now,they are humans too like Nigerians and all the difference is more hard work by the citizens.

I myself is planning in some years time to go to Nigeria and do my own contribution to the development of Nigeria, We are still young and strong,if we all labor now for our country,we would all reap good things,when we are old.
