I hope many newbies in Germany would follow the last part of your comment, e really make sense. smiley

DiBoss:
Dear prospective students,

I believe in hope, I believe in opportunity and I am optimistic! No place on earth is rosie, but with the way things are going in our belove nija, I won't blame a banker who resigns and chooses to pursue a degree and career abroad. But I won't advise anyone to sell landed propert or take loans to come here cos that's gonna make u desperate and put more pressure on u.

Life is more than a pay check! Sometimes we also desire to be in a society and be respected as humans regardless of ur family name and background.

As a student, do not allow ur family back home put pressure of sending money to them on u and also do not paint any picture of having a goldmine in Germany. Cut ur coat according to ur material, do not be in a hurry take out time to search for cheap accommodation. Do not run down ur block account before implementing plan B. As soon as u settle, look for a mini job of atleast 450 euro basis. life in Germany is all about proper planning. 3 years ago during my BSc program, I had a class mate who was working and and he spent all his savings on flight ticket just to visit Nija. I told him that he was out of his mind. And here are my reasons. U are running to Nija to spend ur summer holidays when other students are staying back to pick up full time jobs to enable them save and work less during school session. He succeeded in visiting Nija, came back broke and was working hard during school session and in the cold winter to meet up. That's ridiculous! As a student, u should plan. There is time for everything, I rather stay back during summer, work full time job save some money that I can fall back on during school sessions. If u work and save during summer, u can conveniently work a mini job during school session and ur studies won't lack.

And my last advice...there are 2 kinds of foreigners in Germany. Those that wanna pursue a career here after studies, and those that wanna return back to Nija to pursue a career after studies. Clearly define the part u belong and chase ur dream.

Good luck my people and God bless all ur efforts!

Thanks!

I got two messages already, I had to check out for Potsdam as that is the closest city to Berlin I know.

the problem is that I'm arriving on 2nd July, most offers start from 1st July

I've not written the aufnehmetest, it's gonna be in late August... I applied to one
Wishing you all the best and don't keep all you eggs in one basket, aufnahmeprüfung is very competitive and I'll advice you apply to more schools to increase your chances.

Even if the offers are starting on July 2nd take it and please don't send any money to any landlord or students for the rooms, tell them you'll give them when you get there as you have no account in Germany, some rooms offers are scams as they ask for deposits and disappear.
Cheers

I'm seriously having problems witsh getting accommodation in berlin

I want to attend Volkshochschule Berlin for two language courses that will take the months of July and August before proceeding to Nordhausen for studienkolleg where I have already arranged accommodation with the studentenwerk there.

I have been using the Wg gesucht platform to search for shared Appartements in Berlin but I have got no response till date, and I will be arriving Berlin on July 1st no accommodation. .please who can help a fellow out with advice or even an offer?
Hello
Don't give up on wg gesucht keep checking daily and you'll find one as those 2 months are holiday period and many students would like renting their rooms out.

People only listen to what they want to believe. I will take it upon myself as a project to ask about African students who came with study visa, graduated and got a job here. the tips, the tricks, everything. It is our outmost desire to get employed here after studies. I dont know why its not so common to see. . I will only post facts and not claims.
Where you come from matters a lot in Germany. my Spanish classmate had no visa interview, he hopped on the plane and bam he landed in Germany. I asked how much he came with he said maybe 2000€. Just imagine angry
Our own immigration rules here is different. But I wonder why there are so many Cameroonians here. Seems their visa rules are more relaxed.
Spain is in the Eu, their citizens don't need any visas or such, they just apply, get admission and off they go to Germany.
Cameroon was a german colony before the end of the second world War and after the defeat of the third reich, France too over, so they got more ties to Germany than Nigeria.

My tips to all studying; masters, bsc, make it your aim to secure yourself in Germany before your study ends, improve your german language, intergrate, connect, visit seminars be it in English or German, visit job trade fair even before your course ends and meet connect with recruiters at these job fair (Job messe).
Am not against anyone migrating to another country, when you've not explored all opportunities here.
I am definitely sure you'll still pay that tax one way or another in that country you are running to.
Wetin you dey find go Sokoto dey inside your Sokoto.
@Those coming for Studienkolleg, there's a way you can work after completing your Studienkolleg and work for 5-6months straight before your bsc start giving your finance a boost before the next semester begins.
@All, Nice real post coming the last few weeks about life after studying and not about Nipost, how to certify or how to dhl.
Wishing you guys all the best and good luck.

Hi Folks,
It's high time those in Germany start posting facts and answering questions relating them to their personal experinces not assumption, All i see here is too much mis-information now and then on this thread based on simple Assumption.

Let's desist from assumption and giving false hope to those reading.

About the renewal, It's not compulsory to my understanding one must have 8k in his/her block account for the next renewal, a job contract might be sufficient depending on the official you meet there and am a witness to this.(Am relating this to my city/state HH)

Lastly, as a rule, i learnt some years back, i usually avoid going to Auslaenderbehoerde on Mondays,it's like Weekend enjoyment still dey shak them. cool

Learn German in North Cyprus then apply for undergraduate courses with waec and you'll be surly directed to Studienkolleg but if you apply for transfer,it would be straight to 1st or 2nd semester to a German university or search for courses in English of your choice and do uni transfer with your credentials from North Cyprus.

As for your Edu Animatore certification your can search for “Anerkennungsstelle für ausländisches erworbene Zeugnis Bayern“ on Google and contact them to see,if your certificate from Italy would be recognized and the equivalent qualification in Bayern/ Germany.

Regarding HND check out Uni assist website. nothing like long time out from school,if i can still be motivated to start at 30,yes you can!

Thanks. Note am an Italian citizen so you look at the angle if you are answering.
Ciao Chiccha
As an Italian citizen, you can work and study in Germany either by moving to Germany and register at the Rathaus and start applying for a Job or apply for a University and get an admission then study and work.

As for Nigerian OND, i guess someone said it on this site before, you can't get a direct admission to study at a german University with OND, you'll need go through Studienkolleg like i did coming also from Italy with my Nigerian WAEC result and after Studienkolleg then you can apply to any University or Polytechnic all over Germany.
If i may ask, Do you have any certificate from any italian school or work?
Lastly, i assume you have some basic german or good knowledge as this would really make requiring for information very easy,if not please start learning as soon as possible

Feel free to ask any questions.

PoliticsRe: Three Soldiers Killed By Militants In Foropa, Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa by styles2009: 5:46am On May 11, 2016
Quakertellicus1:
Takeaways from this thread....

1.When Boko Haram kills soldiers, some people blame the whole North for being so violent. When Niger Delta militants do the same...some people blame the South for being so violent. Me....I think I put both Boko and ND militants in the same boat. They are just as bad as each other (Boko is probably worse).

Both groups have wrecked their home regions over the years...in the name of fighting for their ''rights'' .....to the point that it is going to take ages for the areas to be cleaned up.

No amnesty for both of them.

2.I always hear supporters of the Avengers say that they are fighting for resource control and restructuring of Nigeria. Funny thing is that is what their seniors said back in 2009....until the government gave them amnesty....then all that talk went away.

3.Since when were thugs responsible for guarding pipelines? How long are we going to pay danegeld to a group of people who are not really interested in anything but their pockets? (Google the meaning of danegeld....very enlightening).

4.If you want resource control and restructuring....go to the National Assembly. Stop all this talk about how the ''North'' would stop you. You put pressure on your NA reps...who then will make the necessary compromises/meetings with other reps....to get the necessary bills/laws passed.

5.For over ten years now...the Niger Delta has gotten far more money than other parts of the country. YET....the area is still underdeveloped....and yet people are not ready to ask why. Because it is far easier to blame the North than to look inward at corrupt leaders like Ibori and Alams.

6.Blowing up pipelines is silly. It worsens the environment, and drives away investors. And when there are no investors, there are no jobs...and the Niger Delta gets poorer. Meanwhile...oil is being discovered elsewhere in Africa. The Niger Delta is dispensable.

7. Someone here blamed Buhari for the deaths of the soldiers. Meanwhile that same person was blaming the North for the death of soldiers in BH territory during the last administration. Why not blame the Niger Delta now? We in the SS allowed this mess to happen because we did not invest in our youth, we did not spend more on education, we wasted the 13% derivation we got....and now we are reaping the fruits of neglect.

8. More money is not going to fix the Niger Delta. The region needs restructuring of people's minds. It does not need more money. Same goes for the North and everywhere else.

9.Some people still have not gotten over the last election.

10.We do not need a new amnesty/danegeld/restructuring/whatever. We need serious leadership from our governors and other local rulers in the South South.
You are absolutely right and the region doesn't need more money but serious leadership.

I know your situation very well and please be prepared as there are many students going to take that Aufnahmetest and selections are very tough.
Do a google search for this : studienkolleg aufnahmeprüfung vorbereitunskurs hamburg
Replace Hamburg with any city you are intended to the preparation class and i might recommend the website below as i witnessed many students passing the Aufnahmetest attending that preparation class.

lmuhopeful:
I guess I can speak a little about life in Germany (at least Munich) since I've been here since October. I will make a few headings and speak about them and if anyone wants to know something specific they can ask here and not my inbox so that others will benefit:

1)Education: The study has been fantastic. I'm doing the Geophysics masters at LMU and the professors are very smart. Our math professor at the institute is just 28 years old with his PhD from France. The computing facilities are top notch and the professors have very well cited papers. Examinations are quite tough so you have to brace up when coming here and the grading is also different from Naija. To score a 1.0 here you need 95% and above. In general anything above 2.5 is considered good especially if an institute is doing high quality research.

2) Housing: This is always a big challenge especially for newcomers. Living in the center can be quite expensive but if one is lucky, you can get a cheap place in the center or even if you live out of the center, the U-Bahn and S-Bahn are there to transport you. I advise to check the distance between an apartment and your class before moving in. In any case, read your rental contract before you sign. You are normally allowed to leave an apartment with a 3-month notice. However ensure that your landlord hasn't put any clause that states that you have to stay a minimum number of months. Such a clause is known as "Kündigungsverzicht" which means termination clause. If you are lucky you can also get the Studentenwerk housing; they are cheap, with many students and there's never a dull moment. I suggest that people coming over should bring some extra money in case you have to stay in a youth hostel for a month or so.

3)Transport: The semester ticket covers transport within the city. I don't know if this applies to every single state but here in Bavaria and also in Baden-Wurttemberg it does. It costs us around 150€ and it lasts the whole semester; for example my semester ticket for this semester starts on April 1 and ends by September 30. You can ride all regular forms of transport(bus, train, tram etc) except for high speed trains like the ICE or special purpose buses or trains (you don't need those mostly anyways except you want to travel to another state or country). Also since you may have to buy this ticket once you arrive I suggest you budget some money for this.

4) Student job: It's very possible to get jobs here will studying. I don't know much about hustling but some others on this thread can help with that. However I suggest that once you get here, approach your professors to ask for a HiWi (student assistant) job. The hours are flexible and the pay is fair. Some of my classmates started HiWi's immediately and earned a lot. With a HiWi your can work and learn simultaneously. You can also ask for a job at a bar or as a Au Pair(to take care of a family's kids). In any case my personal suggestion is that don't start to hustle once you get here. The study is very intensive and the gradings are tough so it may be good to focus on the first semester and maybe start to hustle from the holidays. In this case you have to start looking for a job before exam starts so that you can start immediately after exam.

5) People: I've enjoyed every moment here and I look forward to the remaining time. People are mostly nice and are happy to show you the way. Talk to people and be nice and you'll meet many lovely people. If you drink beer then it's a nice way to meet new people. My classmates regularly organise drink nights. If you like clubs you can also enjoy here. There is hardly any violence in the clubs unlike some Naija clubs. I remember a club in Jos where the bouncer almost killed one small guy for reasons no one understood. People smoke a lot of cigarettes too and if you like the plant(erm....weed) wink then you can find dealers here tho it's coded since it's not allowed.

6) Food: I don't really know since I mostly eat bread, spaghetti, dodo, garri and Mensa food. The Mensa is the student canteen and you get the Mensa card to pay for your food. I don't like to cook so I can't tell you much about Naija food. If Cahnellven comes to the thread he can tell you about Naija food. Me, and Eke40seven were at his place to eat Fufu on New Year's grin

7) Babes: There are many tight babes here from various countries. I haven't hit any yet except for making out. If you like to cold approach women then you can get lucky. I remember cold approaching a French girl who was here on vacation but I couldn't log in wink coz she was returning that evening. For the babes on this thread, well, don't worry, guys will approach you(that's our job wink )

cool African people: There are many Africans here in all society levels, from workers to refugees. I visited a refugee camp and I even met Nigerians there and I wondered why there were Igbo and Yoruba refugees but e no konsyn me huh In general Africans often ignore each other when they walk past themselves but I think this is normal. It is part of a person's security to not smile at every African person you see simply because you are both black. Sometimes I smile and nod to African people in the train or if I think the person is responsible.

9) German Language: I suggest that you try to learn as much as possible before coming even if your study, like mine, is in English. You can live fine in big cities without German but some hustling may be impossible without German. Don't worry it's only difficult in the beginning. Die Anfänge sind in der Regel schwierig wink

That's all for now. If there is something else anyone wants to know I can write about it. But I can't write about the visa or application process coz I'm forgetting those gradually and perhaps few things may have changed Also I know it's not easy but try not to worry about your visa or whether the fact that your name on your birth certificate ends with 'b' and in your waec certificate it ends in 'o'. The visa guys aren't problematic as long as your docs are complete.
I just like the way you took time and represented a single city, straight, direct and to the point, other Nigerian students in other states should also represent and follow your style.
Thanks
Greetings from Hamburg
