flolancracker: And most students in public universities are the ones who cheated their way through.I beg to differ. I had the priviledge of being classmates with graduates of public and private universities at the law school. The only academically sound students were students from public universities like Uniben, Unical, UNN etc. Students from private universities did not know even the most basic principles of law. It was smbarrasing and their excuse was that they were not taught. |

LDRs are not easy but dont listen to those who say it wont work. Ur relationship is not theirs and so it will definitely have a different ending. It can work especially as she is also committed to the relationship as is evident in the fact that she also calls u a lot. I understand how real time voice calls at all times can make u feel so close together that for a moment u forget the distance. Talking endlessly for hours over nothing and everything. Not getting satisfied untill u are both completely out of airtime or battery dies. Constant communication us the lifewire of LDR. So ignore all the negativity on this thread and go get the glo CUG line and enjoy ur relationship. Cheers. |
lokito: My baby so you are here and I thought the Nairaland tsunami took you away.Aw: a perfectionist, a stickler for excellence. AS: i'm a good listener. mekzone: I doubt this is UNIBEN's faculty of law...the law faculty was in a very modern complex with real theatre like classes while I was there between 1997 and 2000. Also law students had a white and black formal dress code.Good point. However in UNICAL where I studied law, the formal black and white dresscode applied only to law lectures. When taking elective classes such as computer we could come infomally dressed. Also, elective classes usually take place in the classroom of the elective faculty so the classroon in the picture might be a computer science lecture hall not a faculty of law lecture hall. |
BBC is just talking a lot of diplomatic BS. We are not asking for more coverage on africa, we are asking for unbiased coverage. Show a balanced and true picture of the african continent to the world. Shikenah |
The QWERTY standard phyical keypad which made for very easy typing is what ill miss most. The cheap BIS subscription and of course the endless low battery. |
Death sentences are only carried out during millitary government. Criminals are rarely executed in a democratic era. when death sentences are pronounced the convicts are placed on death row for the rest of their lives. This becomes tantamount to a life sentence. So the chances of this boy being executed are slim. No one should condemn the judge. So long as a person is found guilty of armed robbery, by the provisions of the CPA the only sentence to follow is the death punishment. The law does not allow him any discretion in the matter. Even a plea of allocutus from the accused will do no good at that point. |
This Op is deliberately misleading the readers. There is a BIG difference btw armed robbery and stealing. The elemen of arms is what makes the difference. In armed robbery there is threat to the victim's life while in stealing there is only threat to the victim's property, this is the justification for the law that armed robbery is punishable with death. Pls change ur heading to "student sentenced to death for ARMED ROBBERY" and stop inciting the ignorant ones on NL to think the judge was too harsh our our laws are wicked. |
Congratulations on ur wedding. I don't mean to scare u but after reading ur updates I got to thinking. How can a Nigerian do a wedding in just 19 days? How many of his family members were in attendance? Nigerians usually do a big ceremony wit friends n family in attendance. Since he just moved to the states I was expecting he would come back to nigeria to do the wedding. Why would he choose to do a wedding with majority of his family absent? Secondly have u spoken to this sister of his? He sounded like its important she give her blessing before he could officially propose or something which is wierd for a hausa man. I hope it is not a first wife. IMO u rilli should hv taken that trip to Nigeria before tying the knot. Well I hope my misgivings are unfounded and u hv a happy married life. |
Because Nigerian men will not hang out with a girl unless they are asking her out or want to get her cookies. My best friend is a guy, we hang out a lot and we get all these comments from people that we are dating. I'm a true born naija girl in my twenties and I can tell u that apart frm my best friend I've never met a naija guy that wanted to 'just hang out'. If an average naija guy wants to hang out with u, he has intentions. Simple and short. Only a few guys are an exception to this rule. |

Very funny post. I agree that boiling the tomato paste kills all the nutrients but at the same time using it in its raw state makes the stew taste sour. So here is what I do; I blend the tomatoes n peppers without adding water to a rough paste. Then I pour the paste into a colander to sit for maybe 15 mins. All the water drains out leaving just the tomato paste. Then I proceed to fry my stew. That way not much harm is done to the tomato nutrients. |
Hahahaha. Op u funny o. Dis one na survival of the fittest. Stay away from all of them for a little while, whoever u miss first and whoever comes after u first to find out what the matter is is the one. But the truth be say u no love any of them sha or else u for no dey ask dis queshion. |
I’ve been silent on the ChildNotBride campaign for a long while now but with the way my inbox is being bombarded with BCs and links to the Stella Damasus video, I feel I must comment. First of all let me categorically state that I DO NOT IN ANY WAY SUPPORT CHILD MARRIAGE! But there are a few facts on this issue we have to know; First of all, The senate DID NOT PASS A BILL LEGALIZING CHILD MARRIAGE! Surprised? Well you should have done your research. The senate is presently going through constitutional amendment sittings and one of the sections of the Constitution under review is Section 29 of the Constitution which states: 29. (1) Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation. (4) For the purposes of subsection (1) of this section. (a) "full age" means the age of eighteen years and above; (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age. Some members of the house moved a motion to delete Sub section 4(B) above stating that including it seemed to promote marriage of women not of full age i.e 18 and below. The infamous 35 senators opposed this stating that there are women under 18 who are married and should not be deprived of this right to renunciation. They voted to retain that section of the Constitution. Note that no new bill was passed, all that was done was to retain a section of a Constituion that has been binding on our Nation for Decades. In any event this section does not have a direct bearing on legal age to marry. The relevant law is Sec. 18 of the Marriage Act which states that where a person is under 21 years, he/she may marry but only with the consent of his/her parents or guardians. Whether or not the Sec 29 (4) (B) of the Constitution which the senate voted to retain is retained or not, by virtue of Sec 18 of the Marriage Act minors (persons under 21) may still marry with the consent of their parents. And as we all know, the Muslim underage girls who marry are usually voluntarily given out by their parents. I support the retaining of that section, our Marriage Act allows for the marriage of minors, all Sec 29(4)(B) of the constitution does is to give them a right , why take it away from them? Also of note is that the various customary laws applicable throughout our country do not have any modern restrictions on legal age to marry. Most of our customary laws permit the marriage of girls who have ‘come of age’ and this is usually between the ages of 16 or so. Marriage of girls who are minors is repugnant to the principles of natural justice. We must fight to stop it but we must FIGHT RIGHT! Child Marriage was not legalized by the senate last week, it has been entrenched in our laws both the constitution and the Marriage Act for decades now. WE SHOULD BE ADVOCATING AND DEMANDING FOR A BILL WHICH PUTS DOWN A BENCHMARK AGE FOR MARRIAGE AND GIRLS BELOW IT CANNOT MARRY WITH OR WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THEIR PARENTS. I admire and respect Stella Damasus, I love her passion to fight for young girls but we should do our home work so we don’t rant on and on ignorantly. ChildNotBride, PikinNorBeWife, EyenIdigheNwan. Lets Fight Right! |
Orokita: I repeat: the director of works, unical is still very much alive! The Man in question Mr Friday Akpan was the head of the carpentry unit, my boss is very much alive!!!! That pic is definitely not taken in calabar! We don't have that kind of flood! The man I'm told slipped and fell while trying to catch his umbrella that was blown away by the wind! The runoff there(ibb by otop abasi near akim police station) is massive and he got swept away! Its rather lame when our so called journalist would print things without verification!!!Thank u for this information. This story is unreliable. @OP pls let's all try to report events in a manner that is not misleading especially when it relates to the lives of people. |
This isn't a picture of calabar at all let alone IBB. And there hasn't been any seriously heavy rain on a monday in the past couple of weeks. No offence but this story needs verification. |
Proudly Cross Riverian. I rep Cally city, land of my birth. Nice thread @ OP |
Big thanks to everyone that nominated me. Awwww, I feel so honored, didn't think anyone would remember me since I've been inactive for a while. Ill pass though. Beauty contests are not my thing. Pls take my name down from the list. Thanks |

ola_pluto: An educated mind will see beyond these cosmetics of the gay folks. Things are not rosy! Healthwise, it is not good. Just last week, a 25% increase in HIV cases in UK gay community. They can smile for camera all they want, it is not cool or appealing. One of them has to role play. Live a deceitful life to satisfy an urge.Thank u for ur comment. One of dem has to roleplay n I wonder why a man wld settle for a man acting likE a woman when he can have a real woman. SMH |
Virgin Finder: None can be like "The Good Seed" or "The Word For Today" not even "Open Heaven".Granted some devotionals are better than others but the aim is to reAd ur bible. If d devotional u use makes u so dependent on it dt u can't read d bible without it then I'm worried. I believe that devotionals shld aid us to grow to a level of spiritual maturity where we can study the bible on our own and get understandn thru the help of the Holy Spirit with or without devotionals. Personally I hv been blessed by The word for Today Devotional. I used it throught last year so thanks to OP. God bless |
The thing I like most about Nigerian humor is its creativity and originality. Everything and anything can be turned into a joke. Recently I heard akpors said 'i love watching African cup of nations. I hope an African country wins it this time' |
