What is most important is making them understand the error of their ways without embarrassing them or making them feel like they're some sort of outcasts.

Eben 2: SB, I have never witnessed such before and i don't think its right to turn away those who dress inappropriately to church. If Jesus were to turn me away as a result of my dirty lifestyle before i met Him, then there wont be salvation for me and His death for me would have been in vain. Jesus said: "for the son of man is come to SEEK and to SAVE that which was LOST" Luke 19:10. the church is supposed to be a place of succour to the unsaved; a place where they can find peace and be lovingly pointed to the Way of salvation.

However, some of these dresses may be very offensive to some believers (especially the new converts and those that are weak in faith)and may be a source of temptation to them. the church should find a way of managing these set of people without judging them, i.e. correct them in love but firmly.

My wife and I once went to a church not far from our home. Believe me, we couldn't wait till the end of the service before we ran out of the church! It was like a fashion parade. It was as if people came to church purposely to show off what "they've got", to show who can "dress to kill" most. It was a show of shame!

I believe if our churches can preach more about the redemptive work of our Lord and that the blood of Jesus sets sinners free from the bondage of sin and self, the world will be a better place. Most of those who dress inappropriately do it not because they love to; some do it because they want to be noticed and loved and the devil who is always there to deceive has made them to feel the best way to get attention is walk about naked. We christians must point them to the Light by constantly preaching and living a christ-like life. I was once dilusioned too, thinking the more girls i laid, the more important and manly i was and i really went out doing what i taught was the best way of life until I met Christ in the CHURCH i had been attending for years. Jesus is still in the business of saving souls if only we'll show them the way!

I share those exact views of yours. Trust me, there are churches who do that. I've met some people who criticize a church for allowing such people attend services, but what they fail to realize is that you can't turn away those you say you have come to help. The fact that Jesus dined with tax collectors and even corrupt religious leaders didn't prevent him from rebuking them right in their homes.

I remember Piers Morgan interviewed Joel Osteen sometime ago and the issue of homosexuality was raised. That is a very sensitive topic among the american populace and it would have been difficult to say anything against them. He said that God is against homosexuality but he wouldn't turn any gay person that attends his church away. Unfortunately, some are quick to condemn thus discouraging those who may be seeking the truth.

I thought of replying some posts but seeing the trend here, i changed my mind. It's really sad to see that we are partly to blame for what we suffer in this country. Instead of looking at things objectively, some people are just being unduly cynical. We say we want change, yet we seem not to know what change is or how we should get it. Our leaders pit us against ourselves and those who have what it takes to lead us to where we should be, and we foolishly accept their tribal and sentimental excuse for mediocrity, even to the point of religiously helping them achieve their aim.

Anyway, i'll expect the outcome of the committees and see how, in clear terms, they expect to achieve these goals. One thing is certain though, i'm not voting for the PDP.

Now i see why our leaders take many nigerians as fools. How can sensible people believe a story like this?

@Eben et al, what would you say about those who turn back people they feel dress inappropriately to church. I know there are some churches that turn away visitors because they are not dressed modestly. Is this right? Is it the best thing to do? I would love to know what you guys think.

@bolded...I see this a lot here and I wish to make it clear. It has nothing to do with dictatorial powers. All that is required is the political will, strength and determination to fight corruption, which has been lacking in past and present governments. There have been a elot of reports and recommendations on how to fight corruption, repair the refineries, reform various sectors, etc, which are generally accepted as good steps if implemented. However, the goverments (present and past) that set up the various commitees just sit on the recommendations and nothing is done. It is obvious that such governments lack the will to do what is right. If Buhari is an upright man and has the will to fight corruption, he doesn't need to be a dictator to do it.

Adamant NJC suspends Salami, battle shifts to Senate

Despite the absence of its Deputy National Chairman, Justice Dahiru Mustapha and a pending suit, the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Thursday adamantly suspended the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami from office.
It was however curious that while the NJC rushed to the press with the statement of suspension, Salami was yet to be served the letter.
But the battle over his fate may shift to the Senate where “progressive” Senators have vowed to demand his reinstatement.
A terse statement by the NJC’s Director of Administration, Mr. E.I. Odukwu, directed Salami to handover to the next most Senior Justice of the Court of Appeal.
The statement also glossed over the specific section of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) upon which the suspension was based.
The statement reads: “Pursuant to the powers conferred on the National Judicial Council in the Constitution of the Nigeria , 1999 as amended, Hon. Justice Isa Ayo Salami, OFR, President of the Court of Appeal has been suspended from office with effect from today 18th August, 2011.
“The decision was reached at the 7th Emergency Meeting of the Council held on 18th August, 2011.
“The decision, which was reached at the National Judicial Council, further directs that Hon. Justice Salami should hand over the affairs of the Court of Appeal to the next most senior justice of the court.
“Meanwhile a recommendation has been forwarded to the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to retire him from service.”
Although the statement was silent on what informed the suspension of the President of the Court of Appeal, it was however gathered that it had to do with the refusal of Salami to apologize to the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.
The NJC was also not forthcoming on why it decided to suspend Salami in spite of the fact that there is a suit pending on the issue before the Federal High Court, Abuja .
As at press time, Salami has not received the letter of the suspension before the NJC rushed to the press.

Eziachi: The question is, didn't the so-called senators knew this fact that a president cannot just go in and sack a civil servant unlike a political appointee before their grandstanding orders?
And for Jonathan and his sidekicks, can't they prevail on whoever is responsible for this guy that he has to go without having to be directly involved, through direct media pressure, like showing their distaste towards the action of the guy through statements?

They tend to show their like towards rule of law only when it suits, but when he waged into the sacking of Silva in Bayelsa, he forgot the rule of law.

1. The use of wood is entirely inappopraite..or is this meant to b a shortlived building, cos d wood will def diminish in quality especialy as it is exposed to water n warmth. I suggest they use special alloy that is even far lighter than wood eg Duralumin..abi dem no get money buy am ni

Those involved are professionals, architects and structural engineers, so i believe they know exactly what they are doing. There are cabins and shacks built with wood at the banks of rivers in other countries. The tides change but they remain strong for many years. What matters is the quality of the wood. I think this is innovative in the sense that the makoko residents live on water, so why not take the school to them? The drums are filled with air so there's no way the school is going down, plus if you know physics, you'll understand that the waves will not move the stucture. It will remain in one position, just going up and down. so, in my opinion, it seems perfectly safe.

Those who think rigging of elections is impossible in Nigeria of today because of "people's awareness" should enquire about the ACN supervised MASSIVE rigging of the 2011 Lagos local council polls. The election tribunal have since nullified three of those elections (though the appeal tribunal reinstated two chairmen because the lower tribunal didn't give judgement within 30days or some other technicalities).

In essence, rigging is possible but one man said[b] NO RIGGING at the national level[/b]. That man is Goodluck Jonathan.
