I love this! Just like Cabo Snoop's remix of "Windeck" with Fat Joe, now our very own koko master is working with one of the biggest music sensation- Kayne West. It is sure gonna be explosive.

BTW, DBanj has got what it takes to be in the international lime-light. What is M.I waiting for?

superbrain,i haven't taken the SAT, won't be able to cos of time frame, if i was looking at spring, that would have been good but am not,so, was able to get some schools that require just toefl for international students but it's either the deadline's passed or i'll have to make two applications, one to the school and after or rather if i get admitted, another to the school of nursing, that requires time which i don't have.
i've registered for my toefl exam and am writing next month but the four slots i have to fill in my schools and their toefl code is blank, i really should hasten in my research and make quick decisions if i intend going in for fall,
the neuroscience thing might not be as easy as i thought, i just figured if it'll give me problems during the course of my application and at the embassy,it's best if i just bone it,
looking for computer/business related courses as i was advised here, can you help me with that?suggestions?schools?informative websites?, appreciate the time and effort it took you to send those schools and reply my questions,
  thanks.
If you go for a computer/business related course, then you may not be able to satisfy the prerequisites needed for a nursing program. Anyway, here are a few links for you. They are also cheap schools.

1. Minnesota State University, Moorhead (CS/CIS): http://www.mnstate.edu/comcis/prospective.cfm

2. California State University, Northridge (Computer Science): http://www.csun.edu/anr/intl/apply/intlapplyftf.html

3. Minnesota State University, Mankato (CS): http://www.mnsu.edu/admissions/international/application/requirements.html

4. Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff (CS): http://home.nau.edu/admissions/apply/admissreq.asp

5. University of Iowa (CS): http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/ProspectiveStudents/index.html

6. University of North Texas (CS): http://www.unt.edu/majors/ucsci.htm

From the six schools above, 2, 3 and 6 are good picks. If you'll end up with a degree in CS, then CSUN is a good choice since it is close to Silicon Valley (lots of tech and computer related stuff take place here).

Arshy and Anfanio are also right. If it must be Nursing, then go for a Biological Science course and this would enable you meet the requirements for a nursing program. All the best.

@ herself, Have you taken the SAT? If so, try the links below to see if you can get a direct admit to the following nursing programs:

1. Jacksonville University, Florida- http://www.ju.edu/2894_3095.aspx

2. Illinois State University, Illinois- http://mcn.illinoisstate.edu/undergraduate/prelicensure/admission_requirements.shtml

3. MaryMount University, Virginia- http://www.marymount.edu/academics/programs/nursingBSN/programReq.aspx

4. University of Delaware, Delaware- http://www.udel.edu/nursing/undergraduates/traditional.html

5. University of South Carolina, SC- http://www.sc.edu/nursing/student/ugradprograminfo.html

6. University of Portland, Oregon- http://nursing.up.edu/default.aspx?cid=3489&pid=206

7. University of Arizona- http://catalog.arizona.edu/geninfo/college/984/NUH.html

8. University of Buffalo, SUNY- http://nursing.buffalo.edu/Academics/Undergraduate/BasicProgram/Admissions.aspx

Most of the above schools require that you do a pre-nursing program (often called early year) which is for one year before you are eligible to start taking nursing courses. I think you should go for one of these. Remember you need to satisfy the pre-requisites (anatomy, physiology, etc) before entering into a nursing program so opting for just any course might not work.

By the way, what are your findings on the neuroscience thing?

neuroscience sounds good enough??
Then be ready to read up a lot about neuroscience and why you want to go for a course like that. Like oyewolejos advised, any business/computer- related course will fly. Neuroscience sounds good but have you found a school that can accept your qualifications? If you have, and getting the admission won't be a problem, then it's fine. You'll have to prepare well for your interview.

EducationRe: Preparing for GRE by Superbrain(m): 12:00pm On Feb 25, 2011
@ myforumid3, yeah bro. I was admitted to Oklahoma State University last year for a PhD program without funding. I tried all I could to get something but I was told funding could only be guaranteed after a semester or two. I weighed my options and decided to wait. OSU is not a top school for engineering and spending over $14,000 didn't seem like a wise decision for such a school. So I let it go and applied to Penn State this year. I actually didn't send in my application till the Nigerian Prof I had been contacting at Penn State instructed me to. Penn State's yearly expense is about $47,000. I'm praying for some sort of miracle as concerns funding as I was told they are currently nominating candidates for fellowships, etc. The school is a top notch, ranked No 1 location for recruiters according to a Wall Street journal. They recently had a career fair with over 300 companies (mostly fortune 500) present. You definitely can't go wrong with it. Moreover, their faculty are involved in extensive research so there's a likelihood you'll get a prof with similar research interests as yours. Still in waiting mode,

I wonder why Nigeria didn't make the list. Well, I think the choice of the worst countries to visit is relative to your intentions. I wonder why I'll leave Lagos to go and "hussle" in a place like Yemen' Cuba or the Soviet. Of course, Cuba is a beautiful place to visit and smoke enough cigars but to hussle? Nei.

I think Siberia should top the list.
EducationRe: Preparing for GRE by Superbrain(m): 8:58am On Feb 25, 2011
@ Nknight, thanks bro. I get your point. He even had one of his current grad students call me and we had a nice chat. I guess he doesn't have enough funding because I saw a lot of "pending approval" research proposals which are very interesting. I'm hoping I get some kind of fellowship though. That said, I might start planning to pay for my first year but it would take a miracle to do so. And yes, Penn State was the only US university I applied to. I also applied to a Canadian university and I've been trying to contact some Profs there. I got a response from one of them yesterday informing me that funding wasn't available and that except I have my own funds, I cannot be accepted. I guess the funding scenario at most schools in North America is changing each year. I will try to contact other profs at both schools to see if I can land.some funding. Thanks for the heads-up.

@ cezeozue, your profile must be really stellar to have landed the MIT and Stanford admits. Keep your hopes high. You will definitely get a fully funded program. I'm "tripping" for your MIT admit sha. Numero Uno!

There is a lot we can learn from other members of the house who will be willing to advise and share their experiences. We learn everyday. It is better you clear your doubts hear than come back later when things don't work to seek for advice. So, let's open our minds and hearts to correction.

Have the admits started coming in?

U.S. appoints Guaranty Trust for visa fee collection

Anyone applying to visit the United States on a non-immigrant visa from March 1, 2011, will have to pay their visa fees at Guaranty Trust Bank, and no longer the United Bank for Africa (UBA). The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria announced that applicants who have already scheduled appointments for March or April with the embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos must pay the $140 visa application fee at a UBA branch no later than February 28.

Visa fee collection services will no longer be available at UBA after February 28. According to the embassy, the shift to GTB is a result of an ongoing realignment of contracts between the U.S. Department of State and companies which provide visa appointment services.

EducationRe: Preparing for GRE by Superbrain(m): 8:08am On Feb 24, 2011
@ cezeozue, I'm in the same dilemma. I've been admitted but nothing yet as concerns funding. Before I got the admit, I contacted Prof. X who is a Nigerian and we exchange emails but it was mostly about my stats, chances of getting admitted and the kind of research he is into. I noticed he always avoided my questions about funding. I quote "funding cannot be guaranteed at this time" bla bla. I really want to work with Prof X but funding is a big factor here. I was tipped to contact Prof Y who is in a different research area (one I also like but not as much as Prof X's). I've been wondering how to compose the email to Prof Y, and how Prof X might react if he finds out I'm contacting other Profs. Nknight, Sefago, and others, please I need your inputs on this.

About what type of GRE to write, like the others said, the devil you know is better.

Hello folks,

marvis32 brought this to my notice. There would be a new appointment system for visa applicants from March 1, 2011. The information below is as stated on the vfs website. Please note the bolded.

Important Notices

New Appointment System for U.S Visa Applicants

The U.S Mission in Nigeria is transitioning to a new appointment system with effect from March 1st 2011. To avoid inconvenience to applicants, please make note of the following:

    * Applicants with a confirmed interview appointment for a U.S visa in Abuja or Lagos may proceed for their interview as scheduled. Your passport will be delivered to you at the document delivery center as previously selected by you.

If you have already paid the MRV fee :

    * Applicants who have previously purchased an MRV fee receipt which is still valid, and have not yet scheduled an interview appointment are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. You can use your MRV fee receipt until April 30th 2011 to schedule an interview appointment.

To Schedule an appointment-

-If you are using the current website before March 1st 2011 and have a valid MRV fee receipt for $140 and a valid VFS services charge receipt for N5800, then the changes are not applicable to you. Please schedule as advised on this website and download your appointment letter.

-If you decide to use the new appointment system on or after March 1st 2011, you can register yourself in the new system, confirm that you have a valid MRV fee receipt and schedule an interview appointment. You must carry the original receipt for $140 paid before March 1st 2011 for your interview. If you cannot produce the original receipt your interview may be cancelled.

Important:

-You will not require to pay the VFS service charge of N5800 to schedule an appointment with effect from March 1st 2011.

-UBA Plc will accept the VFS service charge fee only till 18th Feb 2011. Only applicants who have an urgent need to travel and must use the current system to schedule an interview are advised to pay the VFS service charge.

-The current VFS website will not be available to you as of March 1st 2011 as the U.S Embassy is changing to a new appointment service.

If you have not paid the MRV fee:

    * We encourage applicants who have not yet paid the MRV fee to avoid doing so till March 1st 2011 unless they have an urgent need to travel. The new list of banking locations will be available to you on the new website.

You can access the new appointment system on www.ustraveldocs.com as of March 1st. Our new call center numbers and steps on how to proceed to schedule an interview appointment will be available to you on the new website.

We regret any inconvenience that this may cause you.

That saves us the N5,800 we would have paid for the service charge receiptgrin grin grin

@ cleverdude, thank you. God gave us brains for our use. There are standard requirements that must be met before an F-1 visa can be issued. What would be the essence of having to go for an interview other than for the consular to be convinced that you have met the requirements and that your intentions are genuine?
