TravelRe: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Superbrain(m): 6:26am On Jan 18, 2011
@ masepat, sorry about the misconception. I actually wanted to say that the consular thought you had insufficient funds(not believing an aunt would spend that much still amounts to that). I know you must have tried reaching Kev-d too. I just hope he gets to see my post real soon.

@ Illinois, UIUC is a great school. What course are you in for? You may be able to get funding if you impress any of your professors after a semester or two (for masters and PhD). Don't bug yourself. Like omofavour said, there will always be a way.

@ house, I guess the spring cycle has ended on a good note. I've learnt a lot from some people's cases, especially masepat that was denied previously due to insufficient funds and later got it without any hassle. Kwizzy was also put on AP, and my beloved friend, savemysoul, whose case was exceptional. I wish them the best in their endeavours. The struggle truly continues.

I think we can officially announce the beginning of the fall 2011 cycle now. So peeps, how far with your applications? Any admits? Any challenges? I'm sure the gurus in the house are ever ready to respond.

Kudos to femilangy once again for starting this successful thread. The thread will be 2 years old in a couple of weeks.

Please I need to reach kev-d. If anyone has his email add or YIM I'd, please holla me- superbrainnl@gmail.com

Let the fall cycle begin!

I know some schools are that expensive (Penn State, Boston, JHU, etc). Can you afford it? Are the fellowships, assistantships, etc that you can secure after your first semester? There is always a way. I guess your school is IIT (from your user name) right?

Christianity EtcRe: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by Superbrain(m): 8:23pm On Jan 10, 2011
compujyde:
It appears you don't know Pastor Chris, well let me help you out. Pastor Chris gives in millions of US dollars to the cause of God not only in His ministry but also in other ministries both within Nigeria and around the world just to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ. N25m is not even something he can give out for the cause of God, maybe he can give that out for charity as he did some time ago at Benin where he gave one of the attendees N3m during the programme.
In fact the same 31st Night event was aired on major networks in Nigeria (including the expensive AIT) and outside the nation such that 250 countries in total were covered. I guess you are already thinking of some billions spent right now.

Pastor Chris who while ministering some years ago, someone walked up to him kneeling down in reverence and gave him a cheque of N500 million on the spot. That man of God is mightily graced of God. So personally, he has nothing to do with the money. By the way, most members of the ministry are used to sowing seeds (special givings for the cause of God) so they were just comfortable with it because they know that apart from the expensive broadcasts, setting up the hall to international standard cost hundreds of million (naira) so a thousand naira from them is not even a sacrifice. Maybe strangers (first timers were those who were uncomfortable with it) but there were several surrounding centres around the hall that no ticket was required but I guess everybody just desires to see Pastor Chris face-to-face. I've actually been in that hall when it was packed beyond capacity and if not for the central AC, there would have been a lot of casualties. In fact, I just remembered, even with the AC a lady actually fainted and was quickly rushed out of the hall.

As for Pastors criticizing Pastor Chris, I believe God is watching and hearing them.
Spot on. I always pray for God to give him the grace to keep on. Those in the media industry know what it takes to have a 30 sec jingle on air. He may not have been aware of the fee.

Most times, when government parastatals fail to deliver, we blame the "federal government". Meanwhile, there may be some dudes in such parastatals who are being bureaucratic.

I love Pastor Chris. He who hath sinned not, let him cast the first stone.

PoliticsRe: Explosions Rock Jos At Christmas: 20 Killed by Superbrain(m): 10:22am On Dec 26, 2010
Pathetic story.

Be it politically or religiously motivated, Nigerians should condemn every form of violence.

To those pointing accusing fingers, if you feel the killings were not religiously motivated, then what points do you have to put up an argument? I don't know what the cause is but I pray the city of Jos sees peace.

God bless Nigeria.

When the lady was talkin to me she keep on lookin at her system and she even staple one tag in my passport then later removed it when she wanted to return it to me. If this was about staty that won't take more than 5 days and I think I hard something like name or so and she also said it may take time that I might not make it this section and she also said she is going to help me make it happen asap and most AP takes month and I'm sure na my name cuz she wanted to know where I have travelled to
I'll advise you notify the school and let them know that if the AP extends well into resumption, you'll want the admission to be deferred to summer 2011 or fall 2011- whichever applies. But don't do so until a week before expected resumption for spring 2011. Just relax. You already have your visa as long as nothing fishy pops up during the AP. We'll talk later.

TravelRe: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Superbrain(m): 3:55am On Dec 01, 2010
@ masepat, Sorry about the denial. I will just add my 2 cents to what others have said.

1. I think you were denied simply because you did not convince/explain to the consular the rationale behind your aunt's sponsorship. Next time, once you notice he/she is thinking or being hesitant, ask for audience and state your case. Don't ever wait for the consular to make a decision after much hesitation.

2. I do not support the idea of applying to a cheaper school. $40,600 is not too much, believe me. Penn State University is the best state university in the United States. Do you know how much it costs to do a MPH program at Havard? So calm down. If you want to apply to a cheaper school for fall 2011 admission, then you can go ahead. But if I was in your shoes, I won't compromise on the prestige of my dream school just because I want to go to the US. I've told you about my case before. You should learn from it.

3. Your next best move is to get another appointment and restate your case. They will tell you that your financial situation hasn't really changed but I believe that you can convince the consular to issue you the visa. If this does not work out, then you can try other "cheaper" schools against fall 2011.

This is what I would do if my predicament was same as yours. What you should work on is how to justify your aunt's sponsorship. Success as you make the right decision.

Please i need your help.
Is there any university that still accepts undergraduate applicants for spring session?

TravelRe: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Superbrain(m): 3:42pm On Nov 17, 2010
@ layric

See my reponses in red.

1)How long  is your program?(although it was stated on my I20 that 2011-2015 and they wrote 57 month, while transfer student will only take 2 years to complete the program.so what can i say?)
ans, 57 month as stated on my I-20

Is it stated on your I-20 that you are a transfer student? If not, do you have an email from the school or any other document from the school that states how many courses were waived for you and how long it will take for you to complete the program? The I-20 is what the consular will first look at, so if the actual duration of your program is not stated there, it had better be stated on your admission letter or in an email correspondence, else it would be assumed your program is for 57 months as stated on your I-20.

2) why are you  going  for second Bsc?
ans, due to the requirement for  the master degree program my G.P  is low and i was advise by the graduate assistance in  my school to go for international transfer exchange program so that i can work on my G.P to meet up with the requirement for the master degree program.

Your answer is suicidal. Low G.P.A. in previous undergraduate studies is often attributed to laziness or unseriousness on the part of the applicant. A better defence would be to say that you want to be more grounded in your chosen field, and that studying in the US would afford you the opportunity to do so. Trust me, they know we have one of the most f****d up educational systems in the world. You can also identify a particular aspect of your course that you're interested in, and express you desire to learn that aspect in a more pragmatic approach. An example can be on how to develop business models.

3) why did you choose the course?
ans, it align with my career aspiration of been an administrator and business management,i have great interest in nigeria economy which is currently under recession i believe study this course  in usa will give me more knowledge and skills to contribute to nigeria economy .

Your response is too vague. How do you hope to contribute to the Nigerian economy? You should be more specific. Your best bet is to identify a problem in the economy(especially as relates to business management/administration) and say how you hope to address such a problem with your degree in XXXX.

4) How can the course benefit you and your country and  do you plan to come back to Nigeria?
ans, yes i will come back to my country after my program as i said earlier that  i have great interest  in contributing to nigeria economy and i will make use of the education, skills and knowledge i have gathered in my studies to develop my country and let other people benefit from what i have acquire.

If you can answer Question 3 in the manner I suggested, then you can answer this question. You can say that you envisage deploying the acquired managerial skill-sets to sustainably addressing Bleep problem currently being experience in YYY sector of the economy. If you appear as a problem solver, you stand a better chance.

So, work on the above and let's see what you come up with. Success bro.

CareerRe: Nets Online Test by Superbrain(m): 1:15pm On Nov 16, 2010
The best way around the exam is to try your best to answer the first 35 to 45 questions right. Once you see you have 5 mins left, start guessing. The test is both a speed and accuracy test. To get past the pass mark of 60%, you ought to get at least 37 questions right. I did the first test, got a score of 58% but when I took the second test yesterday, I got 61.67%. So try it out.

Goodluck.
