sunnela has said it all. If I were you, I'll mail the school, then keep calling everyday (infact at least two times a day) till they send the corrected I-20. You can even request for it to be sent by express mail though that depends on if they can offer that kind of service.

@ nwaoma, what were your test scores in both exams? Which is better? Take the one that is better. As for explaining what you've been doing for four years, it depends. What course are you going for and what is the name of the school? I need to create a link between what you intend to study and what you have been doing (imaginary) since 2006?

@ keneylinks, forget about transcript evaluation. It takes time and is not a sure guarantee of admission. I would advise you work on your GMAT. The average GMAT score is 500. Anything below that is not a plus, except your undergraduate GPA is strong and you have years of relevant experience to use as leverage. I would advise you retake the GMAT, try to get above 550, then apply to schools that evaluate your transcript by themselves. I will do some research for such and get back to you. Wait till someone that has applied for visa lottery goes for student visa and lets see what happens and the questions directed to him or her.

We like being too perfect in this thread. Every1 wants to show his or herself that is why I am always warning pple to be themselves and be realistic. You don't have to be the best in English, the best in linguistic, the best visa applicant or the best writer. We are all visa applicants or have already received our visa.

If we knew it all, why are we here, we can as well do it on our own. But a problem shared is a problem solved. Every bodies input are very important and appreciated. We have a common goal to make it in life since the Nigerian economy is competitive.

This spring 2011 set is very somehow compared to Fall 2010. Please lets waste our energies on getting this visa process over and done with. Stop all these ITK (I too know) attitude, its making this thread stagnant.

@ kwizzy, I'll advise you mail the school and explain the delay. You can also give them the details they need to access your result on the net. Get a scratch card, send them the link to check the result. Just make sure your email is detailed and self-explanatory. Also take the advice given before, by contacting WAEC to find out if the result has been sent.

Okay nah let's see, Well, the case of the friend in question may not be complicated as we may think. The person was originally admitted and got his visa for Fall right? Now he deferred his enrollment and was subsequently issued a new I-20 for Spring. At this point we are right to assume his school was aware of this and must've sent him a mail confirming his deferral. Now this is very easy and simple - he should get the deferral letter, the former I-20 and present one bearing the new start date and a doctor's. report (optional in case he wants to say he was unable to travel initially on health grounds if being questioned). Basically with these attachments, he should be able to travel to the US hassle free. THEREFORE IN MY OPINION, THE BORDERLINE IS - NO, HE WOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM AT THE PORT OF ENTRY.

@ djunit, what do you mean by "it is not our fault that we don't like to read"? We all are applying to US schools to try to get a better education than what is obtainable in Nigeria, right? It is outright laziness. Let's just face the fact. We always find who to blame for our own misfortunes. What would it take anyone, with genuine interest in getting a US degree, to go through a 100 pages of information that will be valuable to him?

We all want to help each other achieve our dreams by sharing valuable information here. I asked some "gurus" in the house why they haven't posted in a while, and it was based on their response that I decided to appeal to the house. No one here is below 15 years, if I'm right.
The truth is that if you have a challenge, or feel your situation is peculiar to you, reading those pages will help you understand how best to tackle your problem. If you've done research before, you'll realise that you tend to learn more by reading previous articles and texts than by asking questions.

Sorry for derailing the thread, but I just feel this issued has to be resolved so that we can maintain some order on the thread. Once again, just my 2 cents.

@ gulag, it is often relative to your situation. Read all tha pages of this thread and you will see instances where some people, faced with the same challenge, were able to manage the situation. Shikena.

I just want to comment on an observation and make an appeal to everyone.

First of all, let's try to stay focused on the purpose for which the thread was created. So many questions have been answered in previous posts. Take time to read up all posts from page 1 before asking any question. I know a lot of folks who never even made a post but benefitted from the invaluable information on the thread started by the great femilangy. Take the pains to read up previous posts. It won't cost you anything.

Secondly, please proof-read your posts before posting. Be objective. Use bulleting if possible and let your question be direct. If you have to explain a situation, do so. Be careful about your punctuations too. The way your present your case will determine the kind of responses you'll get. From some posts, I can tell how frantic the poster was while posting. The point is, BE OBJECTIVE!

Also try to have a sense of privacy. No one is really interested in knowing your real name and what your pet's name is. If you have to divulge confidential info, do so to only select people who you feel are competent enough to answer your "personal" questions. If you read the thread from page 1, you'll know who those users are.
Just my 2cents. So the main question- who's next to be interviewed?

@ bato231, it is simple. There are no age restrictions but if your WAEC was taken as far back as 7 years ago, be ready to profer a reasonable explanation as to what you have been doing. If you want to use certifications as a claim, then be ready to present documents to the consular. But ask yourself this. If someone told you he has been taking IT certifications for the past 7 years without doing anything else, is it logical? If you choose to add work experience(if you have any), be prepared to show documents in that regard. But be ready for a tough defence session. 7 years of work experience with IT certifications aint beans. You must show sound know and expertise in whatever certification you claim to have or whatever work experience you may have gathered. What if the consular is a computer science major?

I'm not saying you can't use certifications and work experience as a backup. If you have to use them, "plot your graph properly" so that your sorry may sound logical. Why don't you want to show your degree certificate? Are the majors different? Or is it the result? Did you take any tests (SAT or TOEFL)?

@ seniorak47, I don't know about that but you can as the International Students Advisor at your institution. I will also try to make enquiries. I feel you bro. Don't worry, it'll work out fine.

@ ojap, good decision. Like they say, a lizard in Nigeria would not become an alligator in America. What I mean is that irrespective of location, your survival instincts must come to play. Don't let your present circumstance deter you or cause you to make a decision that will rob you of future gains. I believe you have re-evaluated your situation and thought out your options properly. What I can chip in is that you must have an option B,C, and D. Explore every option but never back down. For those advising him to return, have you considered what a waste it would be? The already paid tuition? Travel costs incurred? Other miscellaneous expenses? Obviously, there is a bail-out option. He just has to discover it. I remember how oyewolejos(bros, I hail thee) reiterated it on this thread about how expensive schooling in the US is and on how independent you ought to be. Please let's all take a cue.

@ seniorak47, I will advise they apply for visitors visa first before anything else. Your wife can then apply for a graduate program at your institution or any other close by (if your funds permit) and then they will be able to join you. If you're on a STEM program, you will still have to do your OPT. By then, she can be schooling while your kids attend school there. I won't advise any other route.

@ house, to those applying for undergraduate studies, try Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Mankanto campuses. There is a lot of tuition reduction for international students.

I may not be applying for the visa this spring as I'm not yet satisfied with my admission package. Still trying to sort out funding issues with my department. If it doesn't work out by next week, it'll be deuces to spring 2011 while I explore my option C which is for fall 2011.

Who is ready for his/her interview? We need the victory reports to start coming in. Masepat, where art thou?
