Bennycollins: Please do mention three major food crops in a Nigerian market that has a 200 day planting to harvest window, I'll be waiting. We are heading into december/fall season with fewer crops reaching maturity/harvest, the next major harvests start from late February/march onwards. Any economic input from this current government can't be expected to translate to cheaper food on the plate of the average Nigerian in less than two planting seasons, if anyone tell you otherwise they've either had a dinner with the all-seeing and all-knowing God because only a miracle can bring such a result. It's time for Nigerians to take the finger out of their bumhole and start using reason when making statements and take actions to address future disaster |

ogododo: It is silly of LP to insist that the NBS report on food price inflation is a consequence of poor economic management by a government that has only been in executive control of same economy for less than 200 days. The issues around supply of food and other similar domestic consumables can only be attributed to the security and social upheavals experienced in the main agricultural belts of the nation and the devastating effects of the floods we saw last year which has negatively affected the crop yields in many cases and outrightly wiped out all crops in many others. We've also seen an increased targeted attack on farming areas by bandits, the faeme/herder crisis has not let up, many farming settlements have been destroyed, many farmers have been em-poverished because of the total loss of crops, many have died many have been maimed and can't return to their fields. Coupled with the poor logistical, storage and processing facilities for food crops tye country is guaranteed to enter into a crisis. We also have the issue of the impact of higher OPEC prices for oil and the resultant PMS, Diesel and other by-products urea(fertilizer) The only solution is for the government to implement a multifaceted strategy around mechanised agriculture, improve the logistics and transport of crops from fields to the marketplace, increase the capacity to convert crops to finished products for the marketplace, and most importantly secure the lives and properties of the farmers. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Will Smith made a terrible mistake in ever settling for Jada Pinket. It's evident she is intent on damaging his morale and causing him to die young and then claiming his estate. The best thing he can do now is to settle amicably and move on, he has his glory years ahead of him |

NwaNimo1: You don't need a court order to enforce laws which are already passed by the state legislature. The issue is noise pollution it's the owners of 10pots who need to seek legal redress if they feel the laws weren't breached and the state had over-reached, they can then claim for damages/loss of revenue likewise 1 Like |

Jokerman: The worst that can be done in a sane country is that he would be fined for ecological alterations due to dredging a canal without state approval, but the sale of the properties is a civil matter that the home buyers need to institute if they can prove he knew the housed didn't have appropriate planning permit or that he did use his influence or bribe to gain a fraudulent permit |

Obierika: I even think building codes in Nigeria are lenient in other parts of the world a sky scrapper would be pulled down if one floor contravenes building code and it can't be rectified in-SITU. Only people who have never bought a property in western nations think like that |
Politics / Re: No One Will Get Preferential Treatment In Demolition Exercise – LASG by sweetgala(m): 5:05pm On Oct 15, 2023 |
Chidozie4847: You can't compensate for an issue which is the fault of the home owner; Never pay anyone to circumvent a planning permit, get the correct approval before building and complete due diligence before buying any property. Anyone who bought a built property can seek civil redress from whomever sold him/her the property, or from government but good luck with such a case in court. Remember the issue of ignorance before the law. |

9jvirgin: Whoever bought the property has a right to the land where it doesn't encroach on the drainage setback. However what I see is people who have bought a fully built property from a developer who falsely assume that all is in order per the permits and planning permission only for the state to flag an issue with the structure or the land on which it seats, such an individual can bring forward a civil case from the developer and claim for damages from them. |

adenigga: This guy is funny, the legal requirements states that all stakeholders must be issued an advanced notice. I'm not certain it is 14/30 days. I support a purposeful strike that is driven by facts, realities and historical record but all this strikes actions of late have just been nonsensical and lacking in justification. Subsidy we all understand had to be removed and in fact was removed from the budget by previous government but why then is Joe and his cohorts asking for subsidy in another guise, the civil servants who have effectively made the state unproductive are also the ones seeking redress |
Politics / Re: Passports Still Take 6 Months To Process In Lagos, Despite Minister’s Claims by sweetgala(m): 7:47am On Oct 13, 2023 |
A friend processed a replacement passport at the relatively busy embassy in an EU country in less than 4 days recently. He filled the application and sorted out the appointment date some 2 months ahead and within a 5days he received his new passport by post. The last time I did my passport it was terrible the appointment process was chaotic, the replacement process was chaotic and disjointed and I had to visit the embassy multiple times to receive the passport over a period of 4 weeks and I ultimately had to forgo an holiday trip to Spain this was 2016, it actually forced me to take up the dual-nationality I had put aside for over a decade 1 Like |

Afonja007: Why should Dangote busy himself publicly criticising government, of what benefit is that to him, he has problems and if he needs to he can reach out to the President, ministers or corporate friends to see how that can be relieved doesn't mean everybody is dancing to his tune. He is however smart because he had built his empire so big that it's is become the standard in Nigeria , president would fall over themselves to see to it that it doesn't fall. Why would a smart business man antagonize the FG please do tell me why, I don't hear innoson complaining maybe it's because he has been receiving record orders since 2015. |

Inside trading because you think the politicians don't dream of the possibility of running billion dollars corporations. Dangote make money tye difficult way that many Nigerians don't want to, while his friends were busy getting fat off oil subsidy money he kept his eye on his cement business and started planning a mega refinery that would ultimately render their business obsolete. |

Business / Re: Cement: Dangote, Lafarge BUA Post High Profit Margins by sweetgala(m): 9:04am On Oct 11, 2023 |
Diligence: Dangote didn't stop ibeto , the CBN instituted a policy to grow local production. Anyone who is honest knows Dangote has worked very hard increase their local production and don't import cement to rebag anymore they've moved away from that practice something even the OP noted, it's cheaper to quarry limestone in Nigeria than in other places, Dangote has also increased his production capacity in West and Central Africa digesting away from Nigeria but ibeto wants to keep importing and rebaging the cement using FX. |
Business / Re: Cement: Dangote, Lafarge BUA Post High Profit Margins by sweetgala(m): 8:53am On Oct 11, 2023 |
Afonja007: The FX was sold to Dangote at CBN rate as was the FG multiple window policy as part of the FG's 20-25% investment in his refinery. And Dangote wasn't the only beneficiary though the particular release made him one of its highest. The FG failed to manage the FX and that threatened the refinery project. I respect Dangote because unlike the idiots who fail to invest Dangote takes very serious risks in investing in Nigeria. |
Business / Re: Cement: Dangote, Lafarge BUA Post High Profit Margins by sweetgala(m): 8:41am On Oct 11, 2023 |
pocom35: Evidently BUA is playing a game of undercutting Dangote to gain some of the local market share, that price reduction is a temporary thing, they can not sustain it. The OP mislead the readers by suggesting BUA, Lafarge and Dangote had an unusually high profit margin while in truth they don't, unlike their international counterparts they don't receive government intervention funds, or preferable tax deductibles. If Dangote defaulted on his loans today the CBN wouldn't come to his rescue because they don't even have the capacity to do so. You lot are complaining about Forex at over 1000/$ bit never thought about when Dangote watched 2 billion wiped out of his total asset value because the naira lost value. The man has borrowed over 6 billion to build that refinery and it has gone well over cost, whose going to help him repay his debtors ! 1 Like |

Okiton: Nobody shut down ibeto because of hatred, ibeto failed to increase it's production capacity but was rather using its licence to import cement and rebag while that was only meant to be a temporary measure to build up local manufacturing capacity. Ibeto was hurting the Nigerians economy and had to go. No one's stopping ibeto from making corrections within the market, it was a simple CBN policy of local production that killed ibeto. And even if Dangote influenced government to make that policy he has a right to lobby for it if he sees that ibeto's practice would undermine his business and the domestic interest of Nigeria, all ibeto had to do was make adjustments from import to local manufacturing |
Business / Re: Cement: Dangote, Lafarge BUA Post High Profit Margins by sweetgala(m): 8:26am On Oct 11, 2023 |
FreeStuffsNG: It's a capitalist world , and the 3 businesses are privately owned, it's important.to note while the comparison of earnings before tax deductibles is very generous to the Nigerian firms these firms are also most exposed to Forex fluctuations and overhead cost inconsistencies. Unless the consumer protection agency can assert that there was a joint enterprise by these 3 companies to fix the price of cement then there can be no crime, if you can build your own cement factory and undercut them then you're welcome to it. And the idea that 90% of shares end up in BUA or Dangote's pocket's is nonsense and devoid of fact, these are both publicly traded on the Nigerian exchange and Dangote has been moving to list on the London exchange for some time now so you can spare us the wailing. The consumer protection agency has a duty to Nigerians they should be responsible for regulatory compliance |

Felicity0001: I think Shekarau is still very much hunted by his decision. I watched an interview where he was asked the question and even in his defiance and staunch insistence he did the right thing you could glance beyond the veil and tell he made a sociopolitical decision to calm some tensions rather than a moral decision to apply justice to a condemned man If Rev King and Orji the cannibal weren't put to death by hanging then one can see why. If it was a military administration things would be different |

RingRoadMafia: Hamas are forcing the hands of Isreal to commit war crimes and cause the deal it intends to seal with Saudi Arabia to come to naught. Saudi crown prince must be fuming right now, that hamas attack has foiled his nuclear weapons programme which he hopes to use against Iran and to gain absolute authority in the Middle East Like a respected military analyst said the Palestinians were at zero, they had little to loose, they were in a open prison that UN itself described as hell on earth |
