The vatican with permission and support from pope francis has declared pope john paul ii. The former pontiff who died in 2005 was perhaps the most famous pope ever. This is a fast breaking news and more info later. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-23198312 http://bigstory.ap.org/article/pope-francis-clears-john-paul-ii-sainthood

I mean no insult to those advocating biafra passionately. We're all learning and luminating each other. What makes you think the nigerian igbo's who can't come together to advance a consensus candidate for the presidency and disagree on so many issues can live together in their own nation without conflict? |
I apologise you all those who take offense with the map i posted. It is not my view or any established view of how a divided nigeria will be. I just wanted to give an image the fragmentation that will come with division. |
Jonathan wants to fight corruption but he is sharing a table with peter odili, oopss..i forgot, he even appionted mary odili as supreme court justice, so much for fighting corruption, mr president. I see it did'nt take mr obesity himself, kenneth kobani and the crooked abiye sekibo long to return to were they originally belong. If i were ameachi, i don't need anybody to tell me i am winning. When the president and vice president of nigeria,PDP, senoir politicians and even my former godfathers all come together to fight small me, i know i am winning. |
It's 1st october 2014 and you're in your sitting room tuned to nta awaiting the independence day address of the president. A few minutes later the national anthem comes on and the president come on air. "fellow nigerians, after a 100 years together as a nation, it is now a national consensus that the divisions amongs us will continue to hinder our progress until we decided if we start the next century of our nation, together or divided, therefore, it is with the support of the national assembly, the 36 states governours and state assemblies that the federal government annouces that in the coming months a referendum on the division or unity of nigeria will be held" fast forward months later and you're on a line in the polling station about to get your ballot for the referendum, so many things are running through your mind, before you know it, you're alone in a polling boot with a ballot that says "yes" "no".your hand is inked up and you start thinking of the tribalism, the born to rule syndrome, your grandfather who died fighting a piontless civil war, the injustice at the same time you think of the lovely people you met when you lived in one part of nigeria. You think of your kind hausa friend, you think of your lovely igbo girlfriend, your amazing yoruba neigbour and that smart niger delta guy at the office. It's tough. A policeman is banging on your polling boot that your wasting too much time, the line is long. You look at the paper. "yes" "no". Were will you place ur finger? |
The Nigerian government has condemned the ouster of Egypt’s democratically elected president, Mohammed Morsi, by the country’s military, saying it viewed the development as well as the suspension of the constitution with grave concern.http://premiumtimesng.com/news/140275-nigeria-rejects-removal-of-egypts-democratically-elected-president-morsi.html |
Next year nigeria will be celebrating 100 years together as a nation. 100 years ago, lord fredrick luggard, the governor general of nigeria almagamated the northern and southern protectorates of nigeria to form a single entity but 100 years later. It has'nt been a jolly experience. We have had countless conflicts ranging from the census crisis, kano riots and many more and of course, the famous civil war, and even up till today. Thedivisions in nigeria still runs deep and can even be seen in a forum as small as nairaland. So my question is this, if nigeria were to have a referendum on spliting the nation so each region can a better nation on their own, will you vote yes? Or do you belive that despite all the problems and division, a one nigetia still have a bright future therefore vote no? Were do you stand?

What a pretty bride. This teaches deeper life a lesson. That a bride can look decent and beautifull on the wedding day. |
Rossikk: First, only a very few nations have states and state governors.governours are not soveriegns. The president speaks for the whole nation and can communicate whatever agreement reach to the governours so the nation can present a united front. The united kingdom is made up of four nations with so much complicity unlike nigeria. But yet when the british p.m travels, he does'nt take the first minister of scotland, wales or northern ireland. He speaks for the whole union. Same with the u.s with it's 50 states. |
Rossikk: You don't seem to grasp the sheer scale of opportunities that abound in China in all areas of investment. You need serious players who are decision makers in their own right on that trip with Mr President. It is right that some governors went along.the president is the leader of the country and represents the entire nation internationally. I have not heard of foreign heads of state carrying governours on state visits. That space should be reserved for nigerian buisnessmen not too many politicians. |
I am a law student and ihate this wig and robes. I intend to argue it before the supreme court. Lawyers should wear a simple buisness suit to court while judges wear a simple black robe. Simple. |
Lovely!! This is just what we need but caution is also expected. And this entourage is too big. What are those governours tagging along for? Why can't members of the FEC just go along rather than wasting taxpayers money on transport and welfare of govenours who should be tending to their states. |
What a shame..the nigerian government is a disgrace. I can understand if members of the house of representatives fight because they are the true representatives of the people, more passionate and more in number but the senate? Which is supposed to be a gentlemens club for the luminated? Shamefull, how many times have you seen members of the house of lords or u.s senate fight? Once again..shame! |
This is the start of a very unstable era in egypt. That country will never be the same again. This sets a dangerous presidence, that a president elected with more than 50% of votes can be removed by protest not the ballot box? Is this egypt's definition of democracy? So if they elect a new president and a group don't like him, they can protest in a square and the army boots him and declare another election. Let's not forget the muslim brotherhood who have promised jihad so car bombs might soon be going off in cairo like in bagdad and kabul. What a shame. Egypt, a country once flourishing under mubarak now will be the most unstable country in the islamic world. |
Impossible! God forbid. Lies... |
Majority of nairalanders are jonathan bottom lickers so telling them anything contrary to the talking point of their lord and master is like pouring water on stone. |
style$co:really? So why has'nt the police commissioner arrested those carrying out these crimes for ameachi? Or are ameachi's tugs stronger than the nigerian police force? Dude, you're sick o. |
ogb5: I lived in PH both during Odili's tenure and Amaechi's tenure.rivers state has never been safe? Why do you lie to prop up your case? When aba was a hot bed for kidnapping and the city was virtually deserted, why did'nt any spill over to port harcourt which is only km's away? After 2007. What happened to soboma george? De bam and de well that were terrorizing diobu? What happened to the buguma crisis? Do you think you're talking to a child? |
Some folks are really dull o. The nigerian government is not broke that they can't pay their workers. The national assembly has'nt approved the budget but it does speak volumes when a single party controls the entire federal government but still fall into stalemates and disfunction. It's jsut stupid and incompetent. |
touch4mony: is the so called amechi better dan GEJ ppl who opposed his re election we kw what he did to them mr omehie his brother can say beta and ur own i guess is not that beta than the bag of beans nor ur father beta than the shameless GEJ.watch d name u call ppl parents because ur parents will someday b address the same way if u hv nofin to say u jst short de Bleep up.tell me what ameachi did to omeahia during the 2011 elections, did'nt he contest freely? Was'nt he same person who on election day used tugs to beat up a police man? And you shut the Bleep up...the poster's you quoted father is not the president of the federal republic of nigeria. Jonathan is, and the moment he took his oath of office, he opened himself to all kinds of critisims both kind and cruel. He can be the father to a truck load of kids for all i care, he presides over 160 million people and needs to be held accountable. |
Frank-C:making noise without a single point attached...why since this commissioner came to rivers state. All the deadly vices that plagued the state during odili's time is returning. When did a governor calling out an incompetent cp become dictatorial? Why is'nt the IG asking his commisioner why security in his state is crumbling under his watch? Some of you have blinded your eyes with politics, hate and tribalism that common sense becomes out of reach. |
ogb5: Amaechi should stop all this cry-cry talk.what security? Security, he has spent the better part of his governorship fighting for but is now crumbling under this idiot mbu. Since ameachi assumed office, all the criminals that reigned under odili have been destroyed. But since this man came, kidnapping has returned, gangs have started croping up again. So where is the security his police commamd is providing that requires funding? |
Swaggot00: lol. Go sit down joordoes strikes happen in nigeria alone? I was in chicago some time back when teachers were on strike and kids were home, strikes happen everyday in europe from greece to spain to the u.k.france..everywhere. |
There was commotion at a courtroom in warri when two robbers fled the court room upon hearing from the judge, they have been sentenced to death. The escape was so stunning as both men were handcuffed and their was a bar enclosing them in the dock, but that did'nt stop them from escaping the court into the streets. They were rearrested later after gun fires from the police which sent the judge and lawyers in court running for their lives. http://www.informationng.com/2013/07/two-robbers-escape-from-courtroom-as-judge-passes-death-sentence.html |
We have list of richest actors,musicians,royals,buisnessmen,etc....but there is something deeply troubling about pastors having a rich list. What will christ who had to bless five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed thousands say? |
Congratulations to gov. Fashola on his birthday...it's good to see that the governors of nigeria's two foremost states are friends, they should really work together. But i think the three cakes were a bit too much for a public official in a country where our fellow country men are suffering. It's kinda elitist and out of touch. |
How sad..bless their poor souls. Please, a graphic warning should be added to the topic of this post..those photo's are ghastly and can really affect sensitive people. |
