Aizenosa:
I had always thought that the strongest clarification of purgatory was in the book of Macabees until I really looked at this two passages of Peter.

I have always asked the question why do protestants have a problem with Catholicism, I have been able to ascertain all except purgatory until I saw this two passages.

So I needed more clarification please.

Thanks and wishing you all a wonderful week.

Peace
From those passages, it is clear that Jesus went to a place where the inhabitants are people who once lived on earth. It is clear that this place was neither the hell of the damned, nor was it heaven. Where then is this place, since it exists? He went to a place described as prison, where part of the inhabitants are some of those who died during the flood. (These are not the only inhabitants, but it seems because he wants to draw a comparison of the ark and baptism, he had to mention these people). Here Jesus preached to them, my guess is that they repented...ehm... so does that mean there is repentance in the grave after allhuh abeg SalC wetin you think.

Again bro, if we look at 1cor3:13-17, you'll also see st. Paul talking about Judgement and what happens after:

In vs 14, he talks about those who will receive their rewards. The reward after judgement is heaven no doubt.

In vs 15, he talks about those whose works burn, but who will be saved yet so as by fire. These set of people will be saved, it means they will enter heaven, but they have to be purified/purged, as if they have been passed through fire. Why is this necessary? It is necessary because "nothing unclean shall enter it" Rev.21:27. Where will this be done, when you're to be saved and not condemned to hell of the damned, and will not be allowed into heaven yet? What is the name of this place or this condition where one is being purified/purged in preparation for heaven?

In vs 17, he talks about those who God will destroy. We know that God destruction happens in hell: "... but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell". Matt10:28. This is the place for those who left this world having committed "sins that lead to death" 1John 5:16-17

So within this passages, the apostles touched on all the possible outcomes from the individual judgement that awaits everyone at death.

There are several passages to support that there is a state/place of purification such as by fire, where atonement is possible, which is neither heaven nor hell of destruction, where the fire is one of Purgation and not destruction.

Good morning brethren, a splendid day ahead to all.

PastorAIO:
you're missing the point. The bible itself is part of tradition that has been handed down from generations upon generations. There are many books in this world but the bible was compiled, copied and given special TLC by the church and handed down along with the sacraments and other oral traditions.

You contradict yourselves when you say that catholics only know what they know because 'scriptures told them'. Only a minute ago all I was hearing was how Catholics never read the bible and disregard the bible. So it is either they got their knowledge from the bible or they didn't. You have to decide which one it is that you believe, because there are still many christians in this world who are illiterate and I hope you are not condemning them because they cannot read the bible.
You, my friend, are not a very nice person. I've read through your posts here, and all you've done to poor dolphinheart is box him to a corner using his own submissions, then let him go without knocking him down, only to catch him again on another claim; and repeat same thing. Indeed you, my friend, are a very "unfriendly" person. cheesy cheesy cheesy

Not that I have become perfect yet: I have not yet won, but I am still running, trying to capture the prize for which Christ Jesus captured me. I can assure you my brothers, I am far from thinking that I have already won. All I can say is that I forget the past and I strain ahead for what is still to come; I am racing for the finish, for the prize to which God calls us upwards to receive in Christ Jesus.
Phill 3:12-14.

How wonderful sometimes when I hear the choir chant the litany of saints...Sancte Paule, ora pro nobis...Sancti Fabiane et Sebastiane, orate pro nobis...Sancta Teresia, ora pro nobis...Omnes sanctae Virgines et Viduae, orate pro nobis...Sancte Augustine, ora pro nobis...Sancta Lucia, ora pro nobis....it goes on and on.

That litany usually fills me with pride, with reassurance, with hope...and a sense of belonging. In this litany is noticed; the name of St. Paul, he now has finished the race, the prize is now his own, his name in the book, never to be blotted out forever. Yet he was once like you and I, uncertain about the future, yet trusting unshakably on the grace from Divine.

Among those saints, are people who while on earth, even I in my sinful state; would have regarded as bad influence. They turned, they forgot the past, they strained ahead, and they won the victory. They await us there, in our home, a home prepared for us, a place of eternal joy.

Many have I related with here on this thread, to some I may possibly introduce myself here on earth, some i may not possibly meet, however one thing is sure, If we persevere; we will surely meet in heaven. I'll like to think that it will be great when I look at you and say "Hi I am Syncan of NL"...how happy we shall be.

Heavenly race; I no go tire, heavenly race; I no go tire, heavenly race; I no go tire....I no go tire.

Good morning brethren, a splendid day and a fruitful week ahead to all.

But abeg, wetin you mean by in whole or in bit.... wrt the rosary part on the novena post.
In whole example: In the church or during set out prayer time, when you could say a complete five decades or 20 decades.

In bit example: When you have five minutes break from whatever labor that occupies your time, then you decide to meditate and say just one decade-eg first joyful mystery, then you say the second joyful mystery on your way home; and so on.

October Devotion: Day 30th - Today the 30th day of October, we're praying for those whose adverse situation is described as hopeless

Novena Prayer:

O God, infinite beauty. Wretched as we are, we
approach in humility your throne, with
thanksgiving and petition. Thanksgiving for the
numerous mercies received from you, and petition
for the many needs that weigh heavily on us. Heal
our Nation, and Look kindly upon our
prayers, especially that of those whose adverse situation is described as hopeless , and of
mine(you may add yours), through
the merits of the passion of your son, our Lord
Jesus Christ. Pray for us dearest mother Mary, as
we offer you this five decades; as a bouquet of
roses, with eyes filled with hope and filial love.
Amen.
Most Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit- I
adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most
precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus
Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world,
in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and
indifference whereby He is offended. And through
the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and
the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the
conversion of poor sinners. Amen.

The ark was an image of a house that contained images of angels...and God approved prostration before it.

Why can't Catholics do the same?
Isn't that what you get when the wind blows you about like chaff, when your foundation is not solid, when truth eludes you. Someone will condemn the Scapular worn by Catholics even without knowing what it was, only to put on a "Charmed apron" because G.O said it has powers. A few years back, someone I knew got married to a protestant lady who didn't like to see medals, he left the Catholic church for hers, fast forward to today; and you see these plastic bangles, from their religious organisation, on the wrist and ankles of every member of their family.

While I believe that different people read and interpret the Bible in different ways, hence the different domains. I also believe I made no mention of Catholics being excluded from the group of ‘people' making antagonizing comments about the different domains of Christianity other than theirs. Nevertheless, you are entitled to your own opinion dearie, so whatever makes you sleep at night.
A very beautiful piece, strewn by a very observant mind. May you be blessed for just narrating what you saw. So many have never stepped foot into a Catholic Church nor witnessed Catholics worship, yet out of ignorance they speak, most times up in arms with downright lies against the Church. Just imagine what you've written above, an essay, a mere description of what you've witnessed, yet some people, who the Catholic church preached Christianity to their Pagan fathers, could only see something in their warped imagination; to judge you about your faith. Just keep your mind like that of a baby as you've done, for to those as such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Matt. 19:14. Remain blessed.

Today's Gospel reading. LK13:10-17

One sabbath day Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who for eighteen years had been possessed by a spirit that left her enfeebled; she was bent double and quite unable to stand upright. When Jesus saw her he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are rid of your infirmity’ and he laid his hands on her. And at once she straightened up, and she glorified God.
But the synagogue official was indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and he addressed the people present. ‘There are six days’ he said ‘when work is to be done. Come and be healed on one of those days and not on the sabbath.’ But the Lord answered him. ‘Hypocrites!’ he said ‘Is there one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey from the manger on the sabbath and take it out for watering? And this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has held bound these eighteen years – was it not right to untie her bonds on the sabbath day?’ When he said this, all his adversaries were covered with confusion, and all the people were overjoyed at all the wonders he worked.

Aizenosa my beloved brother. For eighteen years, eighteen solid years! This lady was suffering from this ailment and was seen on every day of the week, working days and rest Sabbath days, yet none, including the synagogue official, could help her. On this day she came to the synagogue... indeed like every other person, but she met the Lord on this occasion, He looked kindly upon her; and her sufferings ceased. You see dearest Chikk, it doesn't matter what miracle you seek from the Lord, it doesn't matter how "bent" the weight of your problems make you, keep doing whatever good work you need to do in the Love of God and humanity, for often times like this woman; you'll encounter Jesus therein, who when he looks kindly upon you; ease your burden and makes you whole again. Again SalC nwanyi oma, embedded in that passage is what we shouldn't be...the synagogue official's character. Isn't it so glaring how jealousy made him look stupid, he couldn't stand Jesus being the celebrity in his "territory". Vanity! Kamsified ada nne, have you not noticed this behaviour in the present day? When people set out to antagonize another just because he is "stealing the show". Jnrbayano nwoke oma, often times I've had a laugh, and at other times shook my head, when here on nairaland...a faceless forum...someone sets out to pull down another; who had just made a good point, out of jealousy. It does make one look stupid before everyone else except those of like minds and sycophants, yes; do not think the synagogue official did not have supporters. Rich4god my brother, this is same reason for the exhortation found in today's first reading, a call to shed off vanity and walk in the spirit..."My brothers, there is no necessity for us to obey our unspiritual selves or to live unspiritual lives. If you do live in that way, you are doomed to die; but if by the Spirit you put an end to the misdeeds of the body you will live...." Romans 8:12-17

Peppyluv02 ada mmadu,In this also we see the loving kindness of our God, depicted once again by the acts of The Lord, He knows your difficulties and takes note of your problems. Truly the responsorial psalm depicts it aptly : "This God of ours is a God who saves...Father of the orphan, defender of the widow, such is God in his holy place. God gives the lonely a home to live in; he leads the prisoners forth into freedom...He bears our burdens, God our Savior." Psalm 67:2,4,6-7,20-21. Francistony dear brother, yesterday Bartimaeus asked and received, today the lady wasn't shown to ask, she was simply at her "duty post" doing what's expected of her, and she received. ChineloSA, did you see that? Both received the kindness of our God, both were eased of their burden, to the glory of God. May this be your fate beloved brethren-that the Lord meet you at your point of need. Amen.
