What path did you guys take to relocate to the USA? (Aside from student visa/marriage). I’m nigerian with a UK citizenship looking to relocate to the U.S, but genuinely don’t know where to start
You can start with employment based visas
Search for EB visas online there about 4 or 5 different types..i have an intro guide for student and EBvisa link in my signnature.

You can also comsider L1 which is also work related, kinda like cross posting if you work for a company that has business in the US.
2 of my uk citizen friends came that way. Got permanent residency after applying a few years later.

Hmmmm, Scary.
Yes have adjusted my status.
Just curious, can't i get visiting Visa for dem ?
Yes, subject to it being approved but

I'm not sure why your i130 for your children is taking this long if their PD dates are Dec 2022 and Mar 2023. That's 2 yrs already

That's really long for i130 , fortunately your children are IR so there is no cap so when they are approved the wait might not be as long as for those in Family based

Yes, wait times for consular processing have been up to 3 yrs even for those DQ.

You adjusted status in the US right? There's a reason for that, if the kids were with you it would have been faster

The 245k is my personal expense, I was wondering if it's too small of a monthly expense if my monthly salary is 1200000 reason I need my husband to state he covers household costs

Now does my husband need to state he covers the household costs and what supporting document does he need to add
I don't think it's too small based on your earnings but it's up to you to decide.
I think what's more important is the cost of your trip vs amount of savings you have.

My wife is applying for the children , they are 8, 11, 13 and 15 years respectively. Thanks
No one can say when their i130 would be approved

Is your wife LPR or US citizen?

Regardless since they are subject to consular processing whether they F2A or IR it will still take awhile minimum a year based on current waitimes. You still have to wait for NVC then be DOCUMENTARILY QUALIFIED then interview scheduling at Nigerian consulate

Hello house, please I need clarification on somethings

I earn 1200000 but my monthly expense is about 245000 as my husband covers household costs

I am sponsoring my travel

Does my husband's consent letter need to state that he covers all household expense and what documents does he need to attach to show this or will this be too much unnecessary information?

I will appreciate a prompt response
Just indicate the monthly expenses that come from your income. The 245k is from your husband's income regardless of whether you're the one spending it.

Okay so my situation is I’m not funded with any assistantship, it’s personal funding, I have a relative there that would be doing the funding

But he’s asked me not to mention his name and instead say that I’m sponsoring myself to improve my chances

I’d like to ask for your opinion and how to go about it
You know you would need to show fund statements to the university to get your i20.

The sponsor there who would it be?

Obviously your relative is not sponsoring else why note mention him

TravelRe: My Washington DC Trip by Taal17: 2:13pm On Jun 10, 2025
Unlettered:
Hey ya'll, (accent must change na a werey traveller wey i be)

I'm really excited letting you know how this trip went down. This is a trip which i planned for when i got the opportunity. Wanted it to happen in february for my trip to Brazil Sao Paulo, but unfortunately that trip didnt happen and i couldnt make the US stop. So i already planned for it in my head without knowing which city i should visit.

So my trip isnt directly from Nigeria as i came to canada Montreal for a meeting. It has this wonderful feeling knowing that you can have a bit of vacay after the merting. Which was something i did plan for in february. But here we are now....

I already have my US visa for a previous trip to miami from an invite by CISA which also unfortunately didnt happen as i got the visa
on the day the program/workshop ended. So i didnt need to apply for it again. The news yeaterday about their presidential werey banning some countries from travelling to USA was disturbing before i saw the list. It was a relief knowing Nigeria wasnt included (Wheew).

Stay tuned, i got a book for the trip and lookig forward to covering some pages (might decide if its worth discussing or not by the end of the 3hr flight). YUL -> CLT -> IAD.

VISA APPLICATION

So like i said, i didnt need visa to both montreal and US as i already have some years on my document. It was easy for me to make the decision to make a stop and see the world around. The only disadvantage is i'm doing this without my lovely and adorable wife (who is angry with me everytime). BUT i'll try and bring them along next time (in Government terminology - its in the pipe line). Event if its Saudi Arabia next, or spain Alicante for a friend's wedding.

PREPARATION

By now you all know i hate luggages. So as always i pack small for the journey to montreal. But what i always do incase i need to buy stuff/presents for loved ones back at home, i take an extra bag (duffle). Because the only thing i buy for myself is perfume (Parfum to be precise) and the city/countries sourvenir. Man must scent nicely at all times even if you wear shorts and singlet. From my hotel in montreal where i stayed - travel lodge by Wyndham, i was transported by our driver from the organization representing nigeria for the flight (2:35pm). After my complimentary breakfast at 7:30am, arrived at the airport at 11pm and was able to check in early. Since i already at in the morning, all i needed was some hot cappaccino to stay active and walk round the terminal. I got some perfumes (polo blue & CK - very sweet & intense scents) at the duty free shop. I proceeded to wait at the gate & got myself a nice book - about a canadian spy who cracked the Nazi code (i'll advice to read the book).

CHARLOTTE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

My journey began from YUL (Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport), leaving my hotel Travel lodge by Wyndham at about 10:30am for a 14:00 flight. My ticket was for Charlotte Douglas International Airport, USA. Then from there i had a connecting flight to Virginia - IAD (Dulles International Airport). It was a cool and stress free process for me as i easily navigated through the customs and like mentioned earlier i got myself a book and some perfumes. We arrived at Charlotte on time and the airport wasnt a big one, just majorly for connecting flights for those who have been there. Understandably a small airport. Waited at washington DC link up gate for about 1hr 30mins apprx. My ticket was upgraded even though it was a CRJ 900 plane, the seat has some leg space and in the front. 😀

We arrived at Dulles International Airport after a 1hr flight from charlotte. The airport is huge. I was suprised to notice there was no custom at the exit gate to talk with. So i basically just came out from the plane and headed straight to the baggage claim. Took in train to the terminal which is just a one stop ride. Lucky for me after the baggage claim, i remember getting a message from my hotel (Wingate by Wyndham) to contact the hotel incae i'm interested in airport pickup for free.
Knowing that i landed and no sim to reach out, i used the airport phone which is free to contact the help desk at the hotel. In about 20mins the shuttle bus arrived and picked us to the hotel. During the ride to the hotel, the driver was very helpful in letting us know the advantages we can take from using the shuttle and places i can check out for the period of my stay in Virginia/washington. He pointed out to us some eatout spots and malls around the hotel.

SMITHSONIAN'S NATIONAL AIR & SPACE MUSEUM

This is one of my passions though. I'm taking about Lockheed CJ-71, space shuttle, Concorde etc. History, artefacts every Aerospace & aviation is there. Its like a kid in a candy store with everything FREE. Its about a 1:30 mins walk in the hangar with so much to read and educate yourself with. They have simulations you can go into and have the experience. Have tried it because there is so much queue.

Funny thing that happened to me: Wore a hoodie with the caption: SIMPSONS COLLEGE. Ono na so oyinbo man ask me if i went to simpsons, as a naija boy, my brain processed in milliseconds and i told him my cousin went there. No be you guy disgrace sir! He apologised and i kept walking.

After the walk around i used the info desk to call my hotel for a pick up. Easy peasy!

THE NATIONAL MALL

IF YOU've been to washington DC before then you know this area is a must! All the history & monumental buildings are located here. I'm taking about Black history, American history, National history, Lincoln Memorial, white house etc. all in the same area! So i took the the metro after being dropped off by my hotel at Dulles International Airport. Took the silver line metro going to ashburn. Its about a 1hr :30mins ride with lots of stops. I dropped off at Smithsonian station which is the exit to the National mall. Its a looooooooooooooooooooooong walk from Capitol building to the Lincoln Memorial. I'm not kidding, when you are out for the view, make sure you wear something light and good trekkers (In summer). Because its a never ending walk bruh. Because its about 25-27 degrees out when i did the walking i had to take breaks and get some refreshments. I started with the National Historic meseum and go through all the other museums. It was fun at first till i got so tired and wished i could just fly back to my room. I now understand why people pay for the city tour trips. It would have been much easier than going alone, cost effective but at what cost baba?!.

Any ways i had the pleasure of seeing all the great monuments and understand the American pride.

Zenith bank really dealt with me as i'm not good at holding cash, prefer to use my atm everywhere i go. But today, that solidary to zenith bank has ended and i'd advise anyone who plans to travel to hold cash. First hand experience is a bitch. I knew there was issue when i tried to purchase some sourvenirs and my card declined (God punish zenith bank). I went to the station to ride back to my hotel and my card declined at the entrance. I explained to the securities (guy and lady - FREAKING BLACKS) about my issue and they stated to me clearly that they couldnt help. I was disappointed to say the least. I was stranded and no internet or sim card to make a call back to my hotel.

I had to borrow my friend's (An angel) card details to order uber ride. About $47 back to my hotel & a 36mins ride. Before i left, i told the security that if he was in nigeria and in such situation people not just me would have helped out. And that as blacks i was disappointed with the hospitality. Didnt wait to hear what they had to say i left.

DisGuy, justwise
Yeah, always carry some cash

Was it a naira card or USD card

Good evening house please when applying for UK visiting visa can I include my husband admission letter as a post graduate student here in Nigeria to boost the chance that I will be coming back home and marriage certificate thanks.
Your husband's admission letter in Nigeria is not relevant to boosting you home ties to Nigeria . A letter is just a letter it doesn't even prove your husband is in Nigeria

There are many married people who live in different countries

Book appointment and submit ds 160 for the baby as usual, like an individual then see what date you get. Even if you don't get the same date as yourself on the day of your interview you will carry your baby with you and mention it during your interview that you had a baby and couldn't add her, embassy will interview all three of you together.

You've made very salient points here, but as others have said, any politician who tries to implement them ain't lasting his/her tenure.

There's a natural order which God laid down for man to follow in Ephesians 5:22-6:4 however that order has almost been fully turned on its head. Until we go back to the natural order, the entropy would only keep increasing.

Marriage is for procreation, Genesis 1:28, before pleasure, 1 Corinthians 7:3-5. God will help us.
I'm pretty sure Adam and Eve were ENJOYING PLEASURE, first before children came along

Well, young people of today in developed countries should brace their minds not to receive a pension when they are in retirement.

Largely in the south. The birth rate in the north is way higher.
https ://www. economist. com/middle-east-and-africa/2024/11/07/why-the-fertility-gap-between-north-and-south-nigeria-matters

It is not any high cost of living. People these days want to get everything at once - enjoy their lives, travel here and there, eat here and there, buy this and that, target this promotion and that, achieve this milestone and that, alongside bearing children. I am an advocate of fewer children since I am a Nigerian, but for the developed world, they have to choose a struggle. They cannot enjoy those material aspects of life and still expect an increase in the birth rate.

Anyway, I don't see birth rates increasing as the birth control and education, which later translates to money, are firmly in the hands of modern day women. They have tasted economic and reproductive freedom, they wouldn't let go of them. So, the government should heavily tax those who refuse to marry and born pikins.
Or maybe tax those of you who are married and ONLY birth one or two.

Since you have bought the car, warmed the engine why don't you want to increase speed?

Good morning. I’m back to give an update. I got my US visa approval today. My first time. I’m grateful to God and to all the contributors here. I also told the visa officer about my travel this Sunday and told her I’d like to keep my passport. She gave me a white slip with an address to take it to their office after I return for the visa itself. I thought it will be helpful to give that update for those who may be in my situation. I know @efetobore said it may be unlikely for this to be allowed, but it is allowed. I wish everyone success with their applications.
Yes they do allow that, I had a similar situation. I took my passport travelled brought it back with the white slop and then submitted at DHL then.

Go to the website and use the status tracker.

However if it has been up to 5 weeks since you did biometrics and it does not say passport ready on the tracker then just go to the passport office and say you are for passport collection

[quote author=Elkindo post=135604998]Does anyone who renewed passport recently take their NIN slip (or copy) there? Especially if the previous passport had the NIN written on it?
I'm not seeing it as requirements any longer but some friends are saying it's required.

NIN is the number , you need that to do your application

You do not need to bring the NIN slip or card with you to passport office.

Just complete the application online as others are doing.

I have a fully funded tuition scholarship to study Master of Theological Studies in Boston University. I have obtained I 20 covering me and my wife that is pregnant. I am thinking of going alone while she joins me later. I have also applied for visa and I have appointment for July. Is there a problem with going alone having obtained I 20 for her (her funding is provided for on the I 20). If questions come in that line how can I respond?
Why don't you want to go with her?

You're the main applicant so each person's visa application would be looked at individually.

Abroad it's called "car pooling" ...nothing new. Some people love it ...most don't. In your father's situation ...he loves it...but I guess he weigh the pros and cons and decided to continue. As in ... if he's using his car... he'll have company .... wouldn't fall asleep ...others would either cushion the cost or even cover the cost .. he can make connections along the route and contact them in case of emergency or other matters ... quite a learning experience. Then there are risks ... kidnappings ... join the wrong car ...but then guess he's savvy enough to figure out who to travel with and who not to travel with....your father is more street smart than you think. Each person has his own karma ... that's his ...an adventurous spirit ... let him be ...after all ..he has been din his for yearsss .... his calling ...not yours ...you try that once and everything will go wrong..not for you ...live and let live!
Nah..it's hitchhiking. he hitches rides with people he does not know . Same as 'along' or soole in Yoruba that literally means to drop off along the way

Car pooling is different, here you have knowledge of the people you ride with.whetjer it's to ride to work or school runs or traveling for a ceremony.
