FamilyRe: Are Best Friends Worth It? Mine Abandoned Me In The Streets Of A Foreign Country by Taal17: 9:35pm On May 18, 2020
slyfox35:
Best friends or closest friends as some people term it is quite normal in the life of 80% of world population, I had one too.

We grew up as teens together, matured as adults together, he came to our house always and ate all his meals with us. My mom was really nice to him when she was alive. He wore my clothes and never returned them. I did not ask because my parents always provided for me although they were average citizens.

Then the worst thing in my life happened. I lost both my parents within the space of four years.
Things turned downhill for me (orphans do suffer a lot.. Too much suffering for you to believe there is even God in heaven who takes care of the fatherless and motherless).

My friend travelled to an African country. He kept telling me to come over there to work that things are better there. I kept declining but after a year of constant pressure, I decided to man up, packed my bags and travelled to meet him.

Guess what? I did not stay up to 5 days with him!!!

His attitude changed by the second day, he yells at me at every given opportunity, from his best friend, I turned to his boy, the heat he was given me was so bad that when he leaves the house and he comes back, I get scared just by hearing his footsteps. I virtually turned to a nonentity to him. I had no money on me because the little I had left, he collected it when I arrived. I knew no one, I felt so miserable and alone and I started regretting why I left Nigeria.

On the fifth day ,I woke up early in the morning and shook him up. I don’t know what got into me (but I am glad it did), I told him I can’t stay with him anymore and I want to leave. He did not even feel bad about this, he did not think of the fact that I know nothing and nowhere in this country. He let me go.

I packed my bag amid tears and went into the street. Mind you, I had no one to call back in Nigeria... It was tough on me but as a naija guy and as God will have it, I did not spend even a night on the streets. I was shocked that a total stranger took me in, clothed and fed me. He taught me everything he knows. I worked for 6 months and was able to make 2 million Naira. This was like a dream to me (If you get money ehn, to praise God Dey sweet o)

I came back to Nigeria, rented an apartment, furnished it and continued working from here.

This so called best friend of mine saw my posts and pictures on Facebook and video called me to check on me (I guess his eyes did not believe what he was seeing) he asked me if I am in a hotel, I said no, I am in my apartment. He was shocked (me I nor keep any grudge against you) he told me he was coming to Nigeria and that I should please forgive him and forget everything that happened. I told him I can forgive but can’t forget.

What surprised me most are this exact words he said “my guy, if I come, na your house I go relax first abeg”

Now my fellow Nairalanders, I am asking, how should I go about this?

I have forgiven him but should I allow him into my home?
Nope.
He should rent a hotel and meet you in a neutral place
For someone to resent you for that long since his childhood then you keep him at ar,ms length
You dont need the same friends you had since childhood.

Yes.. got the interview date but because of covid, they've postponed it once. They postponed it to june and even June is not looking feasible, because of the embassy closure. Would we have to redo the medical because they have been postponing?
Lagos IV responded with a new interview date? Wow

Others didnt get any information from them at all even when showing up for their scheduled interview at the embassy only to be turned back.

Who does this affect?

Immigrants applying for a green card from an embassy abroad for the following immigrant categories:
>> DV
>> All EB except EB-5 and EB2 (NIW only)
>> F1, F2A, F2B, F3, F4
>> Parents of US citizens (but not spouse/child)

What does this NOT affect?

>> Nonimmigrant visas of any kind (F-1, J-1, B, etc)
>> Nonimmigrant work visas (H, TN, etc)

Who does this NOT affect?

>> Anyone who's in the US at the date of the order, i.e. including existing Adjustment of Status applicants
>> who already has a valid immigrant visa
>> Anyone entering to work in healthcare/medical research, and their spouse/children
>> EB-5 and EB2 (NIW only)
>> Spouse and minor (under 21) child of USC
F2A ? So even spouses and children of LPRs are affected...wow

Sister if you have anything to add, please do. I'm feeling like I have nothing to live for. Everyday people are dieing, I have lost a few friends this year. I'm alive and thankful for the gift of life. But things are just not working out.
Your Mum is bitter - pure and simple
Your being around is aggravating that. She's piling all her mistakes on you. She chose your father you didnt and until she realises that she's gonna carry that bitterness to her grave. Dont let that bitter seep into you.
Leave - you don't need her permission you're an adult and carve out a life for you. You are a human being outside of whose loins you were born.

LEAVE - stop being her punching bag

The US issue travel restriction to all non-citizens weeks back.

Schools have closed down. By Monday there would no travel to the US whether you're citizen or not. They have already started send evacuation notices to citizens still in nigeria.

So no travel for F1 citizen, school will be online.

I have 2 friends that won the DV Lottery.
You can't view DV lottery wins like that.
For each DV lottery winner they are a pipeline for each family member and extended family.
So 3500 winners can bring in all their spouses and children (adult married children can on that same ticket bring in their spouses and children) as well as siblings with corresponding spouses and children. So over a period of time multiple generations can come from one ticket.

Nigeria has already exceeded 50,000 number hence the end of the program, when you consider our numbers in the US, DV lotteries contribution to that is appreciable

Like Circa said, it all depends on the individual motives and intentions. I have friends who got US visitors visa, sold their properties in Nigeria and Jappa in US. There is a statistics out there that out of 10 Nigerians entering US with visit visa, 8 do not return. The US immigration knows that their laws have lope holes that enable many visitors to change their status and settled with time. The best they can do under the circumstances is to restrict the number of visitor visa they issue to Nigerian from Nigeria. However the Nija spirit and motivation to emigrate to greener pastures, will force many to also adopt other ways to beat the system. I know of a man and his wife, who went to the US on visit visa, enroll in a school and change status to student visa. On every occasion that I have visited the US, I have been begged to stay back by friends and family with promise of assistance to legalize my stay. The only reason why I have not jappa too is that I am too old to live illegally in another country. Or maybe the Orisha in Nigeria have always pull me back to Nigeria. Note I have renewed my US visa 4 times since 2008 and the current one will expire in November 2020.
Data from dhs.gov Overstay report for FY 2018 puts overstay rate at 15.18% for Nigeria for NIV, that corresponds to 29000 plus out of just over 195000 entries to the US. We have never had 8 out of 10 people overstay NEVER. Your supposed statistical evidence is misinformed.
Overstay rate includes both incountry overstays and out country overstays.
Our personal experiences do not count as empirical evidence or core hard facts

They are not

Surprisingly no, it wasn’t brought up.

We have case complete and were just waiting for interview before the ban.

Although I addressed it in the form& explained how I won’t be in any country illegally for any reason.

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, this February. we went from not caring about the work permit cuz green card was in the horizon, to caring, to worrying about the trump ban affecting it, to worrying about the F4 affecting our chances
Roller coaster it is, ban threw a lot of people off course. May it all end in praise.
Glad you can at least go ahead with work. All the best and more

Have u had a US VISA? I'm sure u told the VO that u were going to visit and then possibly change ur status later on, which of course is legal. Next time u want to renew ur visa and ur asked to come in in person, tell them u have other motives beyond a short visit to America.

Fact is, many of our people who are in America first went on a VISIt or business. Simple. The VO WAS TOLD THEY WE WERE GOING ON A SHORT TRIP AND TO be BACK.

Forget about the example with Melania trump, Albert Einstein was a visiting professor in an American university before he changed status. He did not tell them he wanted to settle in America. He probably ran there due to issues in Europe. Many many people around the world do it.
What's your point? If you're going to throw assumptions all over the place then come with receipts that you can back up . There are about 300000 Nigerians in the US and that inclues those of Nigerian descent.
Travel state government will provide with data on number of nigerians that apply and get each vsa category regardless of if they applied in another consulate apart from Nigeria

Why should anyone overstay the given duration of stay in the first place?
Did they bring up your F4 application during the interview at all?

In light of this work visa - this would probably be in your favour since the ban would affect your F4 progressing

Again I am asking the question: how do you know this? Someone earlier told me it was a foolish question but with the varieties of opinions on this forum I don’t know what to believe anymore except that we are all just guessing. My second question is will interviews still go on ? And then again is the moral issue of a retroactive decree which punishes people who have passed the “documentarily qualified “ stage especially family visa applicants. Again if you are refused because of Presidential proclamation and you decline waiver, when the ban is lifted do you begin the entire process all over again? These are things you ought also to be telling us and not just the negative . Please also advise on practical way forward
I don't owe you or anyone any 'positive' news , any information about ban is PUBLICLY AVAILABLE from the same DHS that released the Proclamation.

It is not new, other countries have faced this same ban and visas were only issued if applicants got their waivers approved. All at discretion of CO

So til US consulate in Nigeria provides information on what happens to EVERYONE waiting inline (you are free to ask them) or DHS updates that ban has been lifted then all we have is what the ACT explicitly says and precidence from other travel ban affected countries. Anything else is conjecture

Exactly, And for those that their petitions are still pending with NVC (Yet to be current on the visa bulletin)
Stop misleading people.
Public charge rule is different from Presidential Proclamation ban that includes Nigeria. Very separate things

No immigrant visas will be issued to applicants from Nigeria after 21st of Feb except the CO determines that such an applicant qualifies for a waiver, then such person would go through the waiver process

Now she's in the US while her family is in Nigeria, what's the best way to bring her family to US since she already got her green card. Will appreciate the advice cause her kids are still very young. Thank you
Wow ...so it would be taken that she lied about what her status was, so when filling ds260 form she said she has NO children?
