Clearly you are either u aware of many of such businesses and families or you are pretending not to know.

In either case, il point you to a popular example, have you not heard of the "Abiola" family and their loss of wealth/businesses upon his death? Likewise, there is the other popular example example of the "Ibru" family.

Kindly do your research to discover more.

Celebrated today, forgotten tomorrow is he sad reality of many family businesses in Nigeria, and Africa, just as rest of the world. Only few survive multi-generations.

lugzii:
.

In ds time and age, mention a family company in Nigeria that you are aware of that died after d owner passed on.

Many are haters yes. Many support yes. But those few who know the story of the family, don't even bother to hate or support.

If you know, you know.

In other news, based on the businesses the company has had, it seems all is not going well; from their website you can see many businesses under the parent company have been failing since the 1980s. The last and main one standing is the one that concerns energy distribution

I understand your point, however, as I mentioned, there are exceptions; choosing to keep your business as the ibis, as you mentioned could have a negative impact as well. For example, Corona virus came and small businesses were impacted. Amazon became more popular. So it's not always safe to be that small.

What you want to do is to create a product that is not easily replicable; tech can be replaced, so these companies would buy or crush competition.

But there is an exception; for example have you heard of Carabello Coffee ( www.carabellocoffee.com )? Starbucks wanted to buy them and failed. Starbucks tried to crush them and failed. Why? Though they produce coffee like Starbucks, their actual business isn't in making coffee for customers, just as Starbucks does. Their actual business is creating happiness for customers. That's something Starbucks can't copy and as such can't crush.

Their is a very very small hotel in Japan that is like 500 years old; all these big hotels have tried to buy it, crush them and failed. Why? That hotel focuses on giving peace to their clients. That's something other hotel big names can't copy.

So as a business owner, you have choose how you want to position;

1. As a typical transaction business (get paid for what you offer/sell)

OR

2. Offer intangibles that grab peoples attention.

It is also important to note that many businesses do not do what they seem to do. I'll explain with examples below;

1. Apple is not in the business of making nice devices etc. They are rather in the business of selling prestige/exclusiveness. As a result, certain people who want to feel exclusive buy their products.

2. Telcos are not in the business of connecting calls, SMS etc. They are rather in the business of data management.

As a result, you must have an extra and unseen qualities that distinguish you from the competition and that can't be easily copied.

HallaDaTruth:
Capitalism vs Socialism. You are still not getting the deep picture or the long term picture. I would rather own a business that my children can inherit. It goes beyond what you described as 2 shop. I can't live your life for you, if you like you can go into such partnerships. I remember when Nigerians were going into website building and the owning of servers, Google suddenly released GNBO ( Get Nigerian Businesses Online). That crashed what would have become the Nigerian dream to server dominance. Its called corporate tech slavery where all tech companies will be owned and controlled by the few elites. You mentioned the original owner of whatsapp, are you aware he sold that company under duress ?. Do you know that a behemoth like Google can decide to crush your company if you refuse to sell to them.?. There are so many social media companies that refused to sell out to Google and Facebook and they were either set up or were out played by monopolistic manipulations. A social media company known as gab was kicked out of all play stores cos they refused to promote the coperate world lie or sell to Google. Are you aware that liberty reserve was destroyed by PayPal just because they refused to sell. Suddenly we heard that the owner was involved in shady deals. Early this year payoneer was almost destroyed until they reached an agreement with mastercard. I have worked in this industry and if you refuse to bow to them, they find a way to get to you. I see a lot of people clapping at these feel good deals. They have no idea about what duress agreement takes place behind the scenes. Only a few elites wants to control the world of Tech, even food will be controlled by a few. Remember how chivita was purchased by coke. Are you aware that even local farmers will soon sign forced deals because as long as you buy foreign fertilisers and gmo seeds, they have a right to your food profit ?. Guy i don't want to go into details. Here is my advice for you. SELL NOT YOUR COMPANY. Many igbos know what they are doing with their "2 Shops"

Sports / Re: Are Non-african Professional Footballers Really Innocent Of Age Fraud? by TakeYourChance: 9:54pm On Dec 16, 2020
Talk is cheap. Likewise, watching football is easy. Until you watch live professional football (not African football) and or see the daily the routines of professional players then you will know what they get tired. Read below;

1. The average professional football runs/sprints at the speed of about 25-30km per hour.

2. In a 90mins match, most players perform about 20 sprints per match, as a minimum

3. Professional players have to make decisions in about 2-3 seconds, as such this places a huge amount of mental fatigue, which indirectly also contributes to physical fatigue.

4. The average and laziest professional footballer (excluding goalkeepers) covers a distance of 8-9km in a match. For context, 3MB is about 10.5km long.

5. The following day after match, players are expected to return to training ground for "light" training, which is still heavy for other people; for example, they train in a swimming pool.

6. Professional players train almost everyday of the week before a match. In addition, some coaches conduct double sessions; mornings and late afternoons.

7. The least amount of body fat a footballer is to have, in order to perform well is 10%. Meaning, if you have more, you will be deemed unfit and are at risk of not performing well or getting injured. Only few footballers like CR7 have 8% body fat. What this means is, players have to almost always train and or go to the gym.

8. The strongest top level footballer, Ibrahimovic, has a weight of 95kg; this is muscle not fat. What this means is, because football is a contact sport, the more players hit/contact each other the more they start to get tired in match, though slowly.

Can you handle all of the 8 above (these are just a few examples) and you won't get tired by the weekend and during a match? If your answer is yes, then I will personally contact my Head Coach and ask him offer you a trial/short term contract.

Tripitaka:
Every weekend i watch the EPL, i keep pondering on this. Are European footballers really innocent of Age Fraud as the media will like us to believe? Is age fraud really just an African or South American thing?

I just read where Lampard was blaming fatigue for his players inability to perform in the defeat against Wolves and I couldn't help but wonder where the fatigue stemmed from exactly. They last played on Saturday against Everton which gives them 3 solid days to rest, yet these guys say they are fatigued? How?

Football is played for 90mins split into two halves of 45mins with a 15min break between halves. Yet, they talk about fatigue? Mind you, they do not run marathons on the pitch, for the most part, they jog around, sometimes walk, they only move at full speed when going on counters or trying to stop one. So how cant these guys perform optimally twice in a week?

For context, I have a cousin who is a football freak. At 33, he plays on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings every week. But never says he is too tired to play the next week. How then can a professional footballer who has access to world class training grounds, clinically designed pitches, personalized training routine, top psychologists, top nutritionists and dietitians, top sporting gears that have been designed to bring the best out of them tell me he is too tired too play, unless his biological clock is ticking.

The local street footballers even play everyday on tattered boots, terrible ground with zero protection. Most of them do menial jobs, eat carbohydrate laden foods 80% of the time, have no rest, yet can play for 2hrs everyday.

How can a footballer retire at 33 to 35 saying he can't play a 90mins game anymore for once a week? I really can't wrap my head around this. Personally, I believe most of them may not be as young as they will like us to believe.

Kindly allow me to take things from another angle;

Google bought YouTube for millions of US dollars. That means the owner of YouTube got paid millions. He was retained to continue running YouTube; this means he is now being paid (still in millions, thanks to salary, stock option, benefits) as a top ranking Manager at the company.

Stripe bought Paystack. The owners of Paystack have been retained to continue managing the company and yea they will be paid for this amd it won't be in naira, in addition to the millions they have made in dollars, from selling the company.

These are just a few examples. In addition, these former owners of Paystack and YouTube are also free to walk away, just like the owners of Whatapp/Instagram walked away after continuing to work, when Facebook bought them.

These kinds of money's can't be made by owning a shop.

The question should be, what are you good at? And then focus on that thing and grow it.

HallaDaTruth:
If you know how much those 2by2 shop owners are generating, you go piss your pants. Also one has freedom to do what he wants with his money while owners of fintecs need to consult their partners before making any decision. Also fintec can take over anytime. In 2018 i had a chance to start a tech company but i was given a condition to give a huge part of my company percentage to the would be investors. I had to turn down the offer. Igbos have the world's largest apprenticeship system. What that means is that we don't need tech companies or foreign partnerships to generate all the capitals we need to start any business. If you don't own your business 100% then you are not truly free. That's one of the reasons igbos stand out from you guys. Can the owner of paystack still lay claim to the company today?. You guys try to mock us on nairaland but in real life we just laugh at the ignorance of your people. So continue to massage your ego. It doesn't affect us at all.

So you know, Stripe is already in Nigeria and Africa, thanks them buying Paystack.

PayPal is continuing to observe the Africa players before making a decision.

Since 1999 paypal and even stripe (both mainstream payment platforms) are yet to come to Nigeria. So what makes you think WhatsApp pay (a side player) will come ?
There are lot of features on Facebook right now that are not opened to African users, thats not to talk of the much more precarious fintech world.

The irony is, the US may not have informed the Nigeria government of their coming to rescue their citizen. In addition, they would definitely not have worked alongside the Nigeria military to make the mission successful.

A popular example is how they killed Bin Laden; the Pakistan government and military weren't aware. However, after the mission was completed and successful they thanked the Pakistan government.

Health / Re: Help My Girlfriend Is Epileptic. by TakeYourChance: 10:05pm On Sep 28, 2020
Take her to hospital. If you both are in Lagos, go to LUTH.

There are medication for this, that will reduce the frequency of it happening and can even prevent it from happening once she takes dosages daily.

Chef2000:
Please doctors in the house is there a cure for nocturnal epilepsy?

I have a pretty girl, we started dating 8 months ago, this girl is everything I need in a woman, she is neat, cooks well and humble, so perfect to my taste but she is epileptic.

I have been inviting her to my house for over 5months for her to sleep over in my apartment but she keeps refusing, telling me she has a problem then I later promised her whatever the problem is that I wouldn't abadon her.

She finally came on friday, we ate together and later in the night at 22:38 she started having epilepsy and after about 45mins she woke up and started crying, she told me she has been suffering from epilepsy since Feb 2019 but she hasn't been to the hospital due to financial issues.

So please can we find drug for nocturnal epilepsy, it happens to her only at night like 30 to 35mins in her sleep.

Yea. And as I replied someone, they also have a decoder. But since most of us began asking if they have an online one, they then did this website recently, for Africans to subscribe.

So for me, whether I'm on business trip outside the country or anywhere, I can still access my subscription from anywhere and watch, once I connect to internet. Plus is cheaper. Fans of Manu can even watch their clubs ManuTv

I was using their decoder, which is much smaller than the DStv/Gotv ones.

But after some of us in Nigeria began asking if they have a package that allows one to watch anywhere, that's when they designed the site for Africa Users with the instructions.

So I recently switched to this other option and put aside their decoder. So whether I'm on holiday in US, I can still access, unlike if I was still using their decoder.

Introvert comes from Latin intro- , "inward," and vertere , "turning." It describes a person who tends to turn inward mentally. Introverts sometimes avoid large groups of people, feeling more energized by time alone.
Introversion is at its root a type of temperament. It is not the same as shyness or having a withdrawn personality, and it is not pathological. It is also not something you can change. But you can learn to work with it, not against it.

Introvert Facts

• 75 percent of the world is extroverted.

• Being introverted affects all areas of your life.

• Nothing is wrong with you.

• Introverts feel drained and overstimulated.

Common Introversion Traits

Introversion is marked by a number of sub-traits:

1. Very self-aware

2. Thoughtful

3. Enjoys understanding details

4. Interested in self-knowledge and self-understanding

5. Tends to keep emotions private

6. Quiet and reserved in large groups or around unfamiliar people

7. More sociable and gregarious around people they know well

8. Learns well through observation.

What a waste. All these companies could easily solve many of Nigeria's issues and make profits in return; education, health, sports, jobs, housing etc.

Imagine DSTV or Guinness built their own mini estate and rented it out to people starting their first job, those early married etc. They will be getting rent. And years later they can even sell it.

Or Travelbeta and indomie offering internship or early entry level jobs remotely etc.

People complain about government but we the citizens and companies are the problem. These companies will get short term benefits from this big brother, whereas they can make long term benefits and impact society

Meanwhile, MultiChoice will in the coming days reveal other surprises for viewers and fans of the show.

BBNaija season 5 will be broadcast live and 24/7 on DStv channel 198 and GOtv Max and Jolli packages on channel 29. DStv viewers can also follow the drama this season with the DStv Now app on a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

What are you saying? At the age of 37 he has enjoyed but do you know how many more years he will live? His may never see freedom again.

He denounced his Nigeria citizenship. Dubai may never want him on Thier soil. US will definitely not want him. Likewise no Europe countries. He has effectively become stateless.

To add salt to wound, it's not just in US he commited these crimes, so it is very likely that when his sentence finishes in US, another country will request for his arrest and for him to be sentenced.

His only hope is God; he better pray that after US sentencing that no other developed country will ask for his extradition.

Other people in naija may not have been arrested yet, or before, but their lives never end well. They never fully enjoy what they have. It's only God that can save such people and only if they fully surrender to him.

Won't happen but las las hush done chop money, flex life, lived lavish, flown choppers, flown private, had the most exotic cars, mingled with celebs obtained connections, became a known international brand.

No jail can take that away from him, if he comes out of prison he will be better than most poor Nigerians because he has a platform, he has connections, he has experience, he is known and so on. He won't be starting from square 1

He can write a bestseller book, be a TV host, sing music people will buy, sell his story to American media companies, work for security organisations abroad etc

Most Nigerians live in houses worst than American prisons me typing this have not seen electricity in 42 hours straight, I paid aboki 50 bucks to charge my phone, American prisons have 24/7 electricity, gym, free TV, free laundry services, free phone calls and free food that is why black Americans even the celebs see jail as an achievement as street cred status bringer

how many haven't been to jail? you tell me as we speak many US celebs are in jail including Steven Spielberg's daughter, R Kelly, Da baby etc
Even Robert Downey Jr, Lil Kim, tommy Lee, Mark Wahlberg have all been to U.S prison
Their prison is not like our own many come out of jail looking better than they did before they went in.

Those quoting me will chose 10 - 15 years in American prison and a lifetime of living lavish for themselves and their family without thinking twice over being a poor Nigerian from birth to death.

Ask yourself what odds hushpuppi had of being as rich as he was without doing what he did? We all know majority of Nigerians will be born into poverty and will die in poverty but we all want to delude ourselves by thinking "I will be the one to make it" niggger that's what the other 100,000,000 dead Nigerians before you thought, you think every poor Nigerian chose to be poor? or they don't know your God or another one is "if he didn't do crime he would be enjoying by now!" Nigguh enjoying what exactly

Simple question please how many Nigerian lawyers do you know richer than or even half as rich as Hushpuppi? Even the celebs how many of them where as rich as hush? Only the very top 1%

Another quick question? Ask them how many years and how much suffering, and how much connections etc it took them to get that degree and then that position and if the pay for those without connection is adequate, do the same for every other profession except clergy and politicians

And decide for yourself what chance the vast majority of Nigerians have of becoming millionaires or even hundred thousandnaires ?

I'm not encouraging crime please don't do crime but let us be realistic in our thoughts and speech,

I thought if you go to school you must be rich until I was in a slum and a woman told me she did her youth service in taraba, I was surprised I was like wtf excuse me, she said yes she served in.... She didn't know I was thinking shocked thinking to myself "how did you go to school for 17+ years only to end up in this slum in this poverty" I assumed everyone in slums where uneducated never do wells, miscreants etc.

Imagine if she, like most young girls were compelled to sleep with lecturers for grades, or sorted to pass and all that thinking riches were ahead of them upon graduation only to end up in a slum without husband and children hey this isn't fiction this lady was quarrelling with another non educated woman the other day I recorded what the women were using to insult her. Her lack of husband and children she kept saying she sacrificed all that for school and her future but you decide if this is a future worth losing sleep for, worth losing meaningful relationships for

Celebrities / Re: Hushpuppi Wanted In 47 Countries As He Lists Crime Partners - Kemi Olunloyo by TakeYourChance: 2:38pm On Jul 03, 2020
What you see on TV is not what a yanki or hand prison is? Sont be fooled. You mention R.Kellly, Spielberg's daughter etc in prison, these persons will not mix with the dangerous prisoners, they will be put with those who are fairly okay.

Hushpuppi is denied his Nigerian nationality. His so called wealth aka stolen money does not give him respect in the US cause he is not from there; expect him to be among dangerous criminals.

In addition, when he does come out, he will come out with nothing. All his so called assets have been stripped off him.

Scenario 1: immediately he is released (after 10-15years it seems based on the law there), he will be deported, most likely to Nigeria. In addition ,he will continue to be monitored; anyone who gets into a business deal with him also be watched.

Scenario 2: because he is wanted in multiple countries, he is likely never to be released for good; once he has done time in US prison, the next country will ask for his transfer to their country, for him to receive another sentence there. This will continue for as long as each country wants to get their pound of flesh.

DuBLINGreenb:

Her lack of husband and children she kept saying she sacrificed all that for school and her future but you decide if this is a future worth lossing sleep over

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGhHX6sSzCU

Don't worry out of respect and privacy I didn't show her face.

Extra fun fact did you know?? Nigeria made more money from Yahoo boys in 2019 than from Agriculture think about it.

If Messi could play football forever,

I have no doubt he will choose to stay in barca....

But unfortunately, he can't.

His career may be coming to an end, but it won't end in disaster. He and Ronaldo are among those that will end well.

Unfortunately, African players loose form quickly and end abruptly. While many young prospects are exploited by fake agents. That's why i was glad when someone told me about SOAR- www.soaranalytics.xyz ; they connect African footballer's directly to foreign clubs, agents and scouts for free.

There is hope that finally, one day, the really talented African players will shine. No be those wey don pay bribe. And then, as a continent we can have hope to win world cup and to produce many European league top players.

Very unfortunate that our sports men are giving us joy while the politicians are giving more and more tears. Sad!

I just hope future football players do not fall into the hand of fake football agents and scouts, who always ask for money before a deal.

So many great players have been wasted like this.

I think the next generation of footballers, Golden Generation as some call them, should be careful about fake agents, those who ask for money from players in order to secure them a foreign club. its wrong. they just chop those players money. I came across this company and they connect male and female footballers in Africa to international scouts and clubs directly. Their website is www.soaranalytics.xyz and its free for all players to register.
Celebrities / Re: Cassandra Owolabi Blasts Funke Akindele Shares Experience Working With Actress by TakeYourChance: 6:12pm On Jun 29, 2020
Laidelaitangirl:
Actress Funke Akindele’s ex staff, Cassandra Owolabi, calls her out over alleged physical, emotional and financial abuse.

Physical, mental nor emotional abuse do not lead to creativity. If this is true, then there is no difference between what Funke did and what slave traders/owners did. It is not about how Nigerians are, it is about "have you given them another option aside from being strict or heavy handed? For all the works of Funke, what has it done in global affairs? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But if you take, for example, Ikorodubois, in a short few years they are internationally recognized.

What one does will NEVER be as important as HOW ONE MAKES OTHERS feel.

Do Nigerians think Pep Guardiola or Klopp are not strict? They are. Very. However, they also give their players freedom to be creative, time to relax etc, because nobody can produce their best when stressed.

In the same vein, that is how Nigeria coaches treat their player- they train even when injured, or tell players not to drink water, dont pay salary or put them in shitty hotels etc. Whereas their counterparts abroad do things differently and are more successful.

Garbage in, garbage out- how you treat people, will determine the success of ones work. Once again I say it, for all the years Funke working, her works have not resulted in her being internationally recognized as say Ikorodubois; she and some other nigerian entertainers can only get international acclaim from other nigerians abroad and or few other Africans, but they cant get it from independent global personalities and or institutions. Its not a curse, its just a fact about the spirit ones work is done, will tell in the output.
