I would also like to give you another basic reason: its connected with the possible consequences of sex, child bearing, and the male's natural role as the bread winner/provider along with the need to protect him from shouldering the burden of supporting a child not his own through a woman's infidelity - in short a child's paternity can never be assured in a multiple sexual relationship; while the reverse is not the case.
