I was in Istanbul last week and life was going on as normal. There was only one case as at the time I was leaving towards the end of the week. I felt more safe there than when I returned to the UK. So I can understand why Turks are a bit apprehensive about his comments. 1 Like |
Food / Re: Chinese Restaurant in Lagos Condemns Closure by FG, Says Gov't Lied Against It by Tats(m): 5:01pm On Mar 16, 2020 |
“We later heard from the manager of the restaurant that some days ago, some two Nigerians came to the restaurant and asked to be served, after they handed them the menu, they looked through it and left. We concluded they possibly didn’t recognize the food or what to order. “Just a few days after, the business place was sealed up, without the Commission asking for our response to any allegation against us. My question is why didn't they recognise the food or know what to order? Its likely because the whole menu was in Chinese. So, there lies the issue. If they expect Nigerians to visit, then why might the menu not be in English? 1 Like |

extremelygolden: What if his cousin who is visiting decides to arrange hard guys to deal with his friends, as per they are messing with my cousin? His friends could be in danger just by this action. Its not just the guy who appears to be in the process of being evicted by following this route, but the visiting cousin too. Honesty is the best policy or the other option is taking the issue up with family. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Some people have met their performance objectives for the year......Get the President to launch/present visa policy. I don't think that it warrants presidential presentation. No Leader in developed countries present such to the world. |

Politics / Re: Buhari Signs 2019 Finance Bill Into Law, VAT Now 7.5% by Tats(m): 1:41pm On Jan 13, 2020 |
I just cannot understand why one has to pay stamp duty for regular transactions when VAT should already be charged for such transactions. Stamp Duty in the UK is mostly applicable when purchasing a property. You pay income tax and whatever is left for you to spend is further taxed several times in the form of VAT, Stamp duty, etc. |

The military has a small barracks in the area. In as much as they are not supposed to fight crime, so they would hear gunshots near their base and turn a blind eye? Even citizens in London pin down jewelry smash and grab gangs until police arrive. Is it their job to fight crime? |

Foreign Affairs / Re: BREAKING: British PM, Boris Johnson’s Brother Resigns (pixs) by Tats(m): 2:02pm On Sep 06, 2019 |
AreaFada2: Theresa May did not keep to her words that no deal was better than a bad deal and also to get us out. He may have undermined her as she was not doing what she was supposed to be doing. I prefer Boris any day as he understands the everyday problems of a society and what infrastructure a country needs to progress. We voted to leave and he is carrying that mandate. They have to respect the vote and honour it. People who voted to remain are undermining that vote and are doing all sorts to paint leaving as bad and to cancel the vote, thereby making the country look bad in the eyes of the world. No one dictates to Nigeria what they do and the United Kingdom shouldn't be dictated to. A General election would be the way forward. |
Education / Re: Why You Should Not Laminate Your Certificate by Tats(m): 1:28pm On Sep 03, 2019 |
Apart from overseas admission, it is difficult for foreign embassies or their government bodies abroad to validate the authenticity of a laminated certificate. Because such documents do not age and the papers cannot be analysed to see if they are really old and were not faked. This is especially applicable in cases of migration. |
Car Talk / Re: Mercedes Spies On Drivers By Installing "Big Brother" Tracking Devices In Cars by Tats(m): 10:19am On Aug 22, 2019 |
I agreed to it and I like it. If I need to call them using the in car call or emergency buttons, they can locate my car and provide assistance. Also, if the car gets stolen, they can track it, so what is the big deal if one has nothing to hide. After all people install trackers on their cars. |

Glink2018: I believe that it is the duty of a country to communicate a new passport to other countries. While doing this, they also need to communicate what security features there are on the passport so that whenever a fake one is presented, those countries can analyse properly and detect it. It is standard practice worldwide. |

yinkus6750: This is correct. All embassies close on their national holidays. US embassy will not operate in Nigeria on July 4th for example. They just did not see the news and maybe because exact Sallah holiday days may not be known in advance, the embassy couldn't give advance notice and scheduled appointments on these days. |

So what if names match and people go harassing the wrong men? Are they going to publish date of birth too which is confidential information and which can differentiate people with similar names? Even if they published date of birth, the men are not going to tell the women their date of birth so the whole thinking is flawed. |

Business / Re: Don’t Ban Plastic Bags, Polymer President Begs FG by Tats(m): 10:22am On Jul 15, 2019 |
In the UK, it is not yet banned. What has been implemented is that you pay 5 pence for each bag you use hence the demand has drastically reduced as people now reuse the ones they have bought. In the meantime, they are thinking of increasing the cost to 10 pence while they find alternatives to plastics. Paper bags are already in use too but other alternatives are being considered. In USA, they use loads of plastic bags. If you go to Walmart, they will practically put every one or two items into a different bag and you end up with 10 or more bags per shopping trip. They need to do more there. |
