I felt more safe there than when I returned to the UK. So I can understand why Turks are a bit apprehensive about his comments.

Food / Re: Chinese Restaurant in Lagos Condemns Closure by FG, Says Gov't Lied Against It by Tats(m): 5:01pm On Mar 16, 2020
“We later heard from the manager of the restaurant that some days ago, some two Nigerians came to the restaurant and asked to be served, after they handed them the menu, they looked through it and left. We concluded they possibly didn’t recognize the food or what to order.

“Just a few days after, the business place was sealed up, without the Commission asking for our response to any allegation against us.

My question is why didn't they recognise the food or know what to order? Its likely because the whole menu was in Chinese.
So, there lies the issue. If they expect Nigerians to visit, then why might the menu not be in English?

My hubby worked for years with a marine company that was owned by his fathers village childhood friend also known as their uncle. he was so loyal to this man that a korea company came to do a partnership business with his uncles company for a year, which went very well by the way. but when they were leaving they asks for any worker that wants to join them to go back to korea to work, and all except my hubby stays back to take care of his uncles ship as a boiler room enginner. After 3 years contract with the korean company, his colleagues are millionaires now living in korea, while my husbands uncle fired my husband along with half of the staff to employ his wives village people, till today with no pay, no explanaition nothing nothing. thats my hubbys biggest regret today.

That's really sad. Your husband appears to be a loyal person but in this instance, it didn't pay him.

Family / Re: How Do I Ask My Cousin To Leave My House? by Tats(m): 5:28pm On Feb 19, 2020
extremelygolden:
You can do something.

Confide with your trusted and closest friends in school. Let them come and act up like, because they allowed you to put up with them, you're now forming owner of the house, abi? Just a little travel for few months and you're already feeling like Landlord, abi? And as if that's not enough, you went ahead to accommodate someone else.

They should ask you to pack your things and leave the room immediately before they get you arrested. You on the other hand should pretend to beg with tears in your eyes, that they should allow you to finish your exams and you'll go look for another accommodation.

Of course they're meant to say no. You no understand? cheesy You on the other hand will be grumbling as in, how are you going to cope now.
Just pick your few clothes and go stay in your friends apartment while they stay in yours. Like temporarily swapping apartment.

Make sure all this is played out when your cousin will notice at least part of the drama. I know he'll want to fight them, but just let him know that you can't pay good with evil. And that you leave them to God. And that those guys have been helpful to you for a long time now. Don't call them friends in your cousin's presence so he wouldn't know what's up.

I hate rubbish abeg.

What if his cousin who is visiting decides to arrange hard guys to deal with his friends, as per they are messing with my cousin?
His friends could be in danger just by this action. Its not just the guy who appears to be in the process of being evicted by following this route, but the visiting cousin too.

Honesty is the best policy or the other option is taking the issue up with family.

Politics / Re: Buhari Signs 2019 Finance Bill Into Law, VAT Now 7.5% by Tats(m): 1:41pm On Jan 13, 2020
I just cannot understand why one has to pay stamp duty for regular transactions when VAT should already be charged for such transactions. Stamp Duty in the UK is mostly applicable when purchasing a property.

You pay income tax and whatever is left for you to spend is further taxed several times in the form of VAT, Stamp duty, etc.

I think your husband is cheating. He may think he’s in love with this woman and you all are an inconvenience all of a sudden. You would be surprised how some married men can fall in love. Crazy ones I tell you. OP, maybe the side chick bought the shirt that you said was not nice cheesy. On a serious note, it’s either he’s cheating and had plans that day. He tried to thwart the family plans but you get strong head.

Or he’s got a psychological problem. Please report this to your family and his. Get to the root of the matter. In the mean time find a safe place to stay and consider what is best for you and your kids. The next time he snaps, you may not survive it.

Possibly the best explanation about what happened.

Foreign Affairs / Re: BREAKING: British PM, Boris Johnson’s Brother Resigns (pixs) by Tats(m): 5:20pm On Sep 10, 2019
AreaFada2:

Have you forgotten that Boris, Dr Liam Fox and other Leave campaigners promised during referendum campaign that Brexit deal would be the easiest deal in history? As it turned out it was a lie. They never for once mentioned openly that Britain might leave without a deal. Had they done that the narrow win would have been impossible.

In Theresa May's Opinion it was a good deal. So she has not failed in that.
In Europe UK has a seat and veto at the table, how is UK dictated to when other 27 countries follow the same rule.
From your talk I doubt you have ever lived on the continent. If you have you will be stunned how very myopic and isolationist UK Conservative view of Europe is. I have seen it from both sides. The party is now an England National Party remote controlled by Farage, who by the way is of French refugee (Huguenot) origin.

The Europeans are actually sick and tired of Brexit and Macron cannot wait to see the back of UK. Angela Merkel already said 4 years ago that if UK decides to leave, Europe has to regrettably but simply allow them to go. The UK journalist present was amazed how unconcerned about it she was. That was long before the referendum.

You may want to remember that Charles de Gaulle vowed that UK will never join EEC as long as he was alive. And he refused UK request to join many times.

His reasons he gave are exactly what we are seeing NOW. Including UK slowing down European integration, UK preferring to tag along USA, Commonwealth, etc. UK knew fully well the direction Europe planned before joining. Gaulle made it clear and he saw the future.

Remember too that it was Ted Heath, the single and gay Conservative PM who took UK into EEC.

I for one want UK to leave soonest. So that we can all have our peace.

It is clear that we cannot be on the same page on this topic just like the country is polarised.
The sooner we leave, the better. There is no point trying to convince you that I live on the continent.

AreaFada2:

Surprisingly British media consider him as highly charismatic. grin cheesy

The guy deserves every trouble he gets as prime minister. He brazenly undermined former PM Theresa May at every turn. He amassed too many political foes even within own party in the process.

Too many want to see him suffer a taste of his own medicine. And deservedly so.

While Trump has extensive executive powers from the electorate directly , in the UK by convention, he has to carefully exercise those powers as he directly derives his executive powers from being an MP leading the party with the most MPs in Parliament.

In theory any MP can become the Prime Ministers if fellow MP support him or her.

Theresa May did not keep to her words that no deal was better than a bad deal and also to get us out. He may have undermined her as she was not doing what she was supposed to be doing. I prefer Boris any day as he understands the everyday problems of a society and what infrastructure a country needs to progress.

We voted to leave and he is carrying that mandate. They have to respect the vote and honour it. People who voted to remain are undermining that vote and are doing all sorts to paint leaving as bad and to cancel the vote, thereby making the country look bad in the eyes of the world. No one dictates to Nigeria what they do and the United Kingdom shouldn't be dictated to. A General election would be the way forward.
Education / Re: Why You Should Not Laminate Your Certificate by Tats(m): 1:28pm On Sep 03, 2019
Apart from overseas admission, it is difficult for foreign embassies or their government bodies abroad to validate the authenticity of a laminated certificate. Because such documents do not age and the papers cannot be analysed to see if they are really old and were not faked. This is especially applicable in cases of migration.

I agreed to it and I like it.
If I need to call them using the in car call or emergency buttons, they can locate my car and provide assistance.
Also, if the car gets stolen, they can track it, so what is the big deal if one has nothing to hide. After all people install trackers on their cars.

Does Chinese govt inform you about their new passport? Abeg! This people no want us. Simple!

I believe that it is the duty of a country to communicate a new passport to other countries. While doing this, they also need to communicate what security features there are on the passport so that whenever a fake one is presented, those countries can analyse properly and detect it. It is standard practice worldwide.

If its the sallah holiday the country had earlier in the week, the embassy has the right to go on holiday as declared, even if the host country isn't on holiday.
People in diaspora should have update of what happens at home, before another lunatic will go on rampage.

This is correct. All embassies close on their national holidays. US embassy will not operate in Nigeria on July 4th for example. They just did not see the news and maybe because exact Sallah holiday days may not be known in advance, the embassy couldn't give advance notice and scheduled appointments on these days.

So what if names match and people go harassing the wrong men? Are they going to publish date of birth too which is confidential information and which can differentiate people with similar names? Even if they published date of birth, the men are not going to tell the women their date of birth so the whole thinking is flawed.

Business / Re: Don’t Ban Plastic Bags, Polymer President Begs FG by Tats(m): 10:22am On Jul 15, 2019
In the UK, it is not yet banned. What has been implemented is that you pay 5 pence for each bag you use hence the demand has drastically reduced as people now reuse the ones they have bought. In the meantime, they are thinking of increasing the cost to 10 pence while they find alternatives to plastics. Paper bags are already in use too but other alternatives are being considered. In USA, they use loads of plastic bags. If you go to Walmart, they will practically put every one or two items into a different bag and you end up with 10 or more bags per shopping trip. They need to do more there.
