Symphony007: It gives me great joy that there are still countries in africa with a judiciary that does it job without sentiments or personal feelings. No country on earth can have a constitution which protects fundamental human rights then go ahead to criminalize freedom of expression. It is ridiculous and no judiciary will stand for that. Nigeria should take note. Our supreme court must strike down ours if it gets to their desk. If our governments wants it's anti gay law to stand, then it should do a constitutional amendment were fundamental human rights is removed then a law like that can stand. But you can't claim to protect human rights and put people in jail for living their lives because you don't like how they do it. It's a mockery of constitutional democracy. You can't eat your cake and have it.It's obvious you no nothing about the law and constitution. |

Thursday, July 31, 2014Premium Times A corpse was brought from Liberia to the state. The Anambra Commissioner of Health, Josephat Akabuike, announced on Thursday that a hospital has been sealed off and its workers and patients quarantined due to Ebola disease scare. Briefing journalists in Awka, Ms. Akabuike said the measure followed information received by the government that a man whose body was brought back from Liberia at the weekend, might have died of the killer disease. He said that information available to the government indicated that the body was brought back from Liberia through Lagos and deposited in the mortuary at Nkwelle-Ezenaka in Oyi Local Government of the state. “Part of the briefing is to tell you what we are doing to make sure we don’t allow the deadly virus to come into the state. “What actually called for this is that we have a report that a corpse was brought through Lagos and the deceased was said to have been taken from Liberia where of course you know there are cases of the disease. “The corpse was said to have been brought to Nigeria and deposited somewhere in Nkwelle-Ezunaka and the ministry was alerted and that is why we are taking all these measures.” The commissioner said that Governor Willie Obiano had already directed the Police Command in the state to cordon off the place until the necessary tests were carried out. He further said that Federal Government had also sent medical experts from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, to Anambra to carry out the test at the hospital premises. Meanwhile, Ebola has been blamed for 672 deaths in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, according to the World Health Organisation. Sierra Leone has declared a state of emergency and called in troops to quarantine epicentres of Ebola, joining Liberia in imposing tough controls to curb the worst ever outbreak of the virus amid fears it could spread beyond West Africa. Meanwhile, a Liberian man was confirmed to have died from the virus in Lagos last Friday. In a measure of rising international concern, Britain on Wednesday held a government meeting on Ebola, which it said was a threat it needed to respond to. The outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever, for which there is no known cure, began in the forests of remote eastern Guinea in February, but Sierra Leone now has the highest number of cases. |

So whom will take the blame? We only get fed with such news only when the deed has been done and there is no culprit. I hope things really change in the power section. Am optimistic a wave of development is blowing because power just got restored after a year in my area. |
Written by Hope Abah The Nigeria Labour Congress in Benue state is set to begin the mother of all strikes on Thursday following the deduction of its workers June salaries by the state government to enable it pay teachers' minimum wage. The development is against the background of Governor Gabriel Suswam's appeal to cut down on state workers salaries in order to pay primary schools teachers who had resumed academic activities barely four weeks ago after an eight months old protracted strike to press home their demand for the minimum wage being enjoyed by other civil servants in the state. But, state chairman of NLC, Comrade Simon Anchaver today told Daily Trust in Makurdi that the workers never reached a compromise with government to deduct their salaries and as such the body would convey a meeting tomorrow to discuss the matter which would likely lead them to stay out of work in the days ahead. "They (government) did that on their own. We have not agreed on anything yet and they just started deducting our salaries. After our meeting tomorrow, we will definitely go on strike," he said. Suswam had earlier in May disclosed his decision to reduce workers salaries in the state by 10 percent while political appointees salaries would be slashed by 25 percent in-order to accommodate the teachers' demand as his administration could not afford to make up the differences from its dwindling allocation. Our correspondent reports that since last week, workers whose salaries were touched have taking to the social media to rain abusive words on the governor even as they spoil for war and have asked that they government revert to their old earning rate. Some of them also claimed that the government deducted more than the 10 percent it actually appealed for even though they had refused the idea from the onset. Pdp has led Nigeria since 1999, have the lives of Nigerians changed for the better if not for the worse? The fact that you said APC, a pary that was just formed in 2013 has been causing peoblems since 1999 really shows that you are just a dumb and dogmatic pdp follower.100 Likes |

Stop faulting, the bridge is meant to be started and complited in 2015, after PDP wins its presidential seat( no name mentioned). I wish to congratulate our president in advance. More grace and grease to not just your elbow but your entire hands |
If this supporter of APC political party can't settle internal party tussles, what makes us think they can resolve painstaking issues like Boko Haram and other disheartening ethno-religious conflicts. Also, in the words of Edmurd Burke: if the educated cannot participate in politics, there should not complain when they are ruled by fools. APC causing mayhem since 1999 |
