greatestman: Are the first class from private universities responsible for our unfavourable conditions? Why the hatred for first class graduates in private Universities? They are as good as their public universities counterpart if not more than them. after paying such huge tuition fee you don't expect them to fail. |

greatestman: That is were you got it wrong, we over hype first class graduates in public universities (Mind you i am student from public university with CGPA of 4.47 on the scale of 5.0 point in my final year). In public universities we have frustrated Lecturers that are not satisfied with their monthly pay, and secondly the employment selection is base on WHO YOU KNOW factor. But lecturers in private universities are selected base on merit. People with passion for teaching, people that have teaching ethics, people that are delighted to see their students passing, people that are ready to help their students. Why won't the students have good grades? unlike our lecturers in public universities that are forming local champion without any teaching ethics, been harsh to their students, nobody is ready to attend to your personal problem. Why won't you graduate with 4.2 in place of 4.6? please carry your frustration to somewhere else, Not private universities first class graduates they are good they have conducive environment for learning, they have good lecturers etc. Any first class product being it from private, state or Federal universities are good in their on way. (Being it sorting, being it malpractice, being it cramming, being it natural intelligence etc) you just succeeded in giving reasons should reasons why we should respect those in public universities more. The conditions there are not favourable. |

myads890: I totally agree. Especially when you use the igbo tradition as an analogy. Many women have been left without a dime to cater for themselves and their children after the deaths of their children simply because of some silly tradition that empowers the relatives, who never struggled with the man nor assisted him in aquiring his wealth, to take everything into custody.
The simple truth is if we must hold on to our tradition we must also be willing to improve on it, especially in certain aspects than go contrary to reason. Our youths today blindly follow the footsteps of our parents without asking questions. What exactly lead to certain beliefs? Was it from insightful research or just plain ignorance, greed or superstition?
The youths, WE, really need to question these ancient beliefs and culture set our own standards for how we want our kids and the future generation to live.
Ill leave with this story. A man once got married and discovered that anytime his wife cooks fish she chops off a large part of the head and also a large part of the tail off and cooks only the middle of the fish. He asked her, "my wife, why do you always cut off the head and the tail of the fish and cook only the middle?". She answered, "that's how my mother taught me to cook". So, he took his wife to see her mother. When they got there, he asked the mother, "mama, anytime my wife cooks fish, she cuts off the head and the tail and cooks only the middle. When I asked her, she said that you taught her to do that. I'd like to know why". The mother said, "my son, that's how my own mother taught me too".
In a quest to find out the answer, the man took his wife and her mother to the grandma's house. When they got there, he asked the grandma, "mama, anytime my wife cooks fish, she cuts off the head and the tail and cooks only the middle. When I asked her, she said she learn it from her mother and when we asked her mother she said she learnt it from you. Now mama, kindly explain why you taught your child to always cut the head and tail of the fish and cook only the middle".
The grandma replied, "my son, when I was very young, we had a very small pot and all the fish couldn't fit inside, just the middle, so we had to cut off the head and the tail in order to be able to cook".

neyur: Have'nt been through ds discipline for complete five years,i came 2 realised agriculture does not worth d five years programm...supose d courses under d faculty of agriculture ar splitted just like everyother courses in science zone i tink d work load will b reduce n does 1 will not end up been jack of trade n master of none...imgine wen u said ur studying science..it asumed u r studying physcis, chemistry, biology, mathematics, geography n the agriculture itself...bt dis is not so, cuz every course were split n thus ds reduce d work load on d student under ds faculty....so if thesame method is applied 2 agriculture,i tink d students will also find it more easier n intresting in d field...imagine u studying agriculture, along side u will b given many course with subordinate like soil science, animal science, crop science, fishery forestry and many other which i cld not mentioned.all ds ar time consuming...in view of these ar xpress ma opinion, i wouldnt know if agreed or disagreed with my story....bt let hear from you,did u tink d five years programme worth it or not With this kind of English you wrote I think the duration for a degree in English should be extended to 6 years. |
