The University pays the Lecturer or Prof in medicine the same as it pays the lecturer or Prof in Biology or engineering. But the lecturer or prof in medicine also has some allowances from the teaching hopital, not a full salary, These are Call duty, hazard ,teaching allowance and specialist allocation. Thses are also the same allowances recieved by the full hospital consultant. The difference now is in the basic salary. The entry point for a consultant is lecturerI (GL13) while that of a consultant in the teaching hospita is GL15. Thats why the lecturer takes home less doing for two jobs. (The teaching allowance here is not for teaching students, but for teaching, residents, nurses and whichever other medical personnel that may come your way eg students from school of health technology).
The resident recievs a teaching allowance with his salary. He is not paid to teach medical students by the university. It is just the tradition that in some centres they are encouraged to teach cos it is seen as part of their training to be consultants and also it has been found that the more you teach, the better you become.
I delibrately never sought to know the salrys of those in the Federal system cos I didnt wantto do myself longa throat.
All I know is that the salary I recieved as a snr registrar was more than my first salary as a lecturer/ hon consultant. What i have with me is the new conmess document.

Most docs i know in LASG are already planning their exit and some already left during the strike, one just arrived in the UK over the weekend.
Lagos will always get new doctors, those wanting to gain experience before moving to better things and those wishing to come to lagos from the east and other parts of Nigeria, only the patients lose out on experienced docs thats all.
God help the masses.

Pls can you state what level is it that pays such? I just want to get an idea of salary structure along the various levels.

The academic doctor receives his or her salary as a lecturer from the university and honorarium from the hospital . A Hospital Consultant starts on grade level 15 now Conmess 5, while a consultant who chooses to go academic is employed at Lecturer I level which is GL 13 and is appointed honorary Consultant to the teaching hopsital who then pays the medical allowances. such as call duty allowance. So in a teaching hospital like LUTH, UCH or LASUTH if  two consultants are employed the same day, the one who is also a lecturer earns slightly less for the two jobs than the one who is only a Consultant.
However most doctors in the teaching hospital have their reasons for being there which makes the money issue not so relevant. One is being in an academic environment where you constantly sharpen your skills and the fact that most teaching hospitals are slightly better equiped than general hospitals. Then some of us  actually enjoy teaching.
The state teaching hospitals will also face another problem if the University Lecturers salaries are not improved because that means that the basic salary of the Lecturer / Honorary Consultant and therefor the  overall salary of the lecturer will be much less than his counterparts in both Federal institutions on CONMESS [size=8pt][/size]and also other consultants within the state civil service. People would then rather migrate to even general hospitals which are never as busy as teaching hospitals or go to Federal institutions.

So what you're saying is you either earn full salaries as a lecturer (be a 'honarary' consultant) or a consultant doctor but not both. So lets say a professor of biology and a professor of surgery both earn the same thing?
Also who pays the registrars and senior registrars for their teaching, are they lecturer II or?

Is there a way one can get the salary structure for doctors in the federal teaching hospitals? Thank you.

sorry but I was under the impression that most academic doctors in the teaching hospitals earn salaries both as a doctor and collect another different salary from the minstry of education as lecturers?

A professor, just like any other English word, could be used in different ways. I can however excuse your depth of knowledge, because English is not your mother's tongue. However, the problem with a typical Nigerian is "he does not know, yet he doesn't know that he does not know' How do you teach such?

In the Nigerian University system, it is clearly defined what a professor is. No Nigerian lecturer can claim to be or recognised as a professor because in portugal a lecturer is a professor. Pst kumuyi and Adeboye were in the Nigerian University system not American/portugese/spanish universities.

No offence but this is as st.upid as calling Mr Henry Odein Ajumogobia (the Nigerian Foreign Minister) The Nigerian Secretary of State.

Its not by force to be a professor. Be truthful to yourselves, in the Nigerian Educational System, a lecturer is a lecturer and a prof is a prof.

I've heard several people (including media publications) claim pst Kumuyi and Pst Adeboye where retired "profs" or university "Dons" when in actual fact they where just lecturers.

I dont have the answer to your question per se but the freeview has just been recently launched in Nigeria and If you know anything about computer operations you'd know stuffs like this takes time to programme into the system and implement. Its a gradual process and most people I know including me got ours activated by posting our smartcard no's on fb two weeks ago. They have promised (on fb) to programme it to automatically include all subscribers in the coming days.

In fact, I dont think there has been an official rollout or announcement of the freeview yet.

Even before the introduction of freeview, subscribers could still view CCTV when their payment expires, this I know for sure.

@TCD, this your information is not true. My DSTV just expired; and I can only view CCTV and Other Chinese speaking channels as freeview. NTA, AIT and all other local stations are not viewable.

Maybe u should xplain further.

GO to the Dstv page below, Tell them your subscription just expired, drop your smartcard number and ask them to activate your FreeView channels a customer care rep will attend to it.

You dont have to do anything. You are just able to view the channels in the OP free when your subscription expires and you have not resubscribed. However, if your subscription has expired and you sill dont have access to these channels, you can call customer care or post your smartcard no on their facebook page and request for activation of freeview.

Hi, you are right. hitv recently launched its 50th independence promo where you buy the decoder for N15K but I'm not all too sure about that 2 months free subscription.



You make the mistake of thinking just like the Hitv management that everyone is a football freak. And it's with this kind of thinking HITV and their likes will continue to fail. Your only argument in your post to convince people about Hitv is just Champions league, carling cup and serie A? Lol



I think I'll stick with Dstv family coz all the so-called 'world class' stations you have on Hitv, i can get their equivalent (in some cases better) in addition to better stations on Dstv family for just N2,500. I dont think I can pay extra N1,000 every month for just few champions league matches a month, carling cup and seria A. Its not worth it.



Please stop spreading lies. Dstv has 100% right to premiership as well as la liga, bundesliga, french league in nigeria and not 70% like you claim. If you know anyone else who claims to have the remaining 30%, let us have it please.

No, to watch premiership matches you need Dstv compact PLUS. That one na N6,800 per month. I'm not much of a football freak, so i just watch important matches involving the Big 4 at a sport centre. if I miss anything, i can catch all the highlights few mins after the match on supersport blitz. But me like Basketball wella, so NBA and College basketball on ESPN and STV including Nigerian basketball on Supersport 9 keep me tuned.

They've started already. If you still cant view the channels, you can go to their facebook page, post your smart card number and tell them to activate it (at least that is what i've seen some people do)

Hi, congratulations that you live in lagos and able to pick up some of these channels with your uhf antenna. I am really happy for you. But 98% of us dont live in lagos so we are not privilege to your luxury, startimes and all. Being able to get these stations FOC is a welcome development for us as local stations in our areas are awful,

Seriously, your definition of 'world class channels' must be interesting lol. Just comparing the channels on Hitv's premium bouquet where you pay N3,500/month with Channels on Dstv's Family bouquet where you pay N2,500/month, the difference in quality and content is crystal clear and that is why I and many others go for DSTv. Added to it this bonus of watching the stations in the OP free of charge when my subs expires or when I am broke, what more can I say.



Startimes exist only in lagos and abuja i think. We cannot fold our hands and wait forever for them to cover our locality. 



Also for your information, Dstv offers a bouquet called Dstv access for N1,500 a month check it out

So what on earth has DSTv offered now that is too much?

Now for your startimes, last time i looked around startimes does not exist outside lagos and good for you you were able to get a good deal on startimes, lucky you but less than 2% of nigerains live in lagos.

Hi, I dont think its possible bro. These channels are still encrypted by DSTV and u still need their Decoder and smartcard to  access them. Its just that all Dstv smartcards will be able to decode them without any payment.
