Benekkk: Of course not! Only Jesus Christ saves. But if you have the spirit of God dwelling in you there’s no way you can remain in a dead “Church“ and remain comfortable/content because it’s the spirit of discernment. As a good Berean you are to scrutinize the teachings with God’s word and look for wherever the truth is being preached in spirit and truth! Good point, but from reading the new testament, we learn that the spirit comes from the laying on of hands of the brethren. So someone in a dead church can't have the spirit in the first place. How does such know the church to join? |

Christ is the way, the truth and the light. it is following his teachings that brings salvation not the church you attend. On the last day some people will go and their pastors/priests/prophets etc will be left behind and vice versa. But then isn't important to align with a church that follows the doctrines of Christ? Or does Christ not have a doctrine? |

Again, if the church isn't important, why did Christ lay his life for the church? Ephesians 5:27 27 He gave his life for the church so that one day he can look at the church and see that the people are great and wonderful. The people of the church must have no dirty spot or wrinkle or any thing like that. But they are to be holy and good. |

Today, there are all manner of churches with different teachings and doctrines. Do all of them lead to the kingdom of heaven? If not, what should one look out for before aligning with a church. Please don't mention "a bible believing church," because all christian organizations believe in the bible one way or the other. |

Mine is to give him the formula and back it up with the scriptures. The matter is so very important , indeed one of the most important issues about life, I there not claim to know all but only appeal to him in Christ'stead .like Paul the Apostle did, "be ye reconcile with God". In this lay his joy and peace. That's not how it works. Yes, we have the Holy Spirit yet you still go to church to learn from your fellow men. You ask questions in Sunday School and you are not referred to the Holy Spirit for answers. The point is, that you need to stop criticizing others for asking questions. It's ok if you don't know the answers but never never try to stop people from asking because someone out there might just have the answer. Remember, the man beaten up by thieves was not saved by the Holy Ghost or by an angel, he was rescued by the good Samaritan. You are supposed to be the salt of the earth, the Light of the world. What is your value if you can't lead the world with your light? |

LordReed: I can't wait for when science shows us how water turns into wine just by saying or wishing it. LoLz. I don't understand what you are trying to say here but as I said earlier, science is constantly evolving. Things we thought were right are being proven wrong. God on the other hand is all knowing. He knows with 100% certainty if horses or elephants existed in the Americas before the coming of the Europeans for example. That's why I say you can judge religion with the yardstick of science. Do you understand what I am saying. |
Christianity Etc › Re: My Experience With The Book Of Mormon by tctrills: 12:33pm On Oct 03, 2023 |
LordReed: Where these records found in religious scripture and disputed by scientific findings?
What is a religious event? You mean miracle? Are you saying miracles leave no evidence?
Science doesn't declare itself a monolithic body of knowledge that is inviolate, that is religion. With science, there is hardly a conclusion. We keep learning everyday. So just because a religious event does not rhyme with the accepted science of today does not mean it can't be found to be absolutely correct in 10 years time still using scientific Indicators. That's where faith comes in. |
Christianity Etc › Re: My Experience With The Book Of Mormon by tctrills: 10:13am On Oct 03, 2023 |
LordReed: Then religion should stay in its lane and not cross over to making bogus historical or scientific claims. Fact is fact, a religion should not have the leeway to attempt to manufacture bullshit and call it fact. You clearly don't get the purpose of religion. Now let's talk a little about scientific facts. One thing we learnt from the COVID 19 pandemic is that the general science view also undergoes constant change. What's viewed as correct today may be seen as wrong in the next 50 years. There have been records of plants and animals that at a time we believed where extinct only to discover that they were not as more evidence were provided. So when it comes to things that happened hundreds of years ago, science is not always conclusive. There are still so many arguments going in the world of science. So even when we don't have evidence of a religious event, it's not always safe to claim it is false. That's where faith comes in. Faith is a religious quality. It has no place in the science world. Hence it's not right to measure religious events with scientific Indicators. |
Christianity Etc › Re: My Experience With The Book Of Mormon by tctrills: 9:42am On Oct 03, 2023 |
LordReed: I have no qualms with people interpreting their text in spiritual ways, but a problem arises when they begin to claim what is obviously contrary to reality as historical or scientific. If you notice I didn't tell the OP that his experience wasn't real or profound or meaningful, that's because I think having those kinds of experiences can be helpful to the individual. However, having an experience does not change what is obviously not factual into fact. We are somehow saying the same thing. My point is that every ancient religions scripture is contrary to reality as historical or scientific. So religion should not be judged the same way we judge other history or scientific texts. There must be in different measure for religion. If not, we all should be atheists. There is a place for religion and there is a different place for science and even historical facts. |
Christianity Etc › Re: My Experience With The Book Of Mormon by tctrills: 8:56am On Oct 03, 2023 |
LordReed: Let's examine a bit about the Book of Mormon.
1. It claims to have been ori written in reformed Egyptian, a language that has no evidence of ever existing.
2. It claims to be from ancient American natives yet extensively quotes the King James version of the Bible. Ancient native Americans had the King James Bible?
3. The book claims there were horses and elephants in America at the time it was written but these animals were in fact introduced to America by Europeans. Horses were brought to America in the 16th century, elephants much later.
4. The book claims native Americans descended from Abraham but no genetic study has ever found genetic link between native Americans and people from the Middle East.
5. No archaeological findings has ever supported anything the book claims about ancient native Americans.
There is a whole lot more but most of it is of academic interest because you need to really invest in understanding some things before you know why the Book of Mormon cannot be what it says it is. These ones I have written here I think are sufficient to put pause to any claim that it is some kind of historical or accurate record of real world events. I don't think we should judge religious scripture with the eyes of an academic document. All ancient religions scripture contains contradictory historical accounts and claims that science can proof to be false. All without exception. For example, archaeology and history have proven that there was no wall of Jericho at the time the children of Israel fell the wall. Jericho at that time wasn't even a city. It was just a small settlement. The question here is, how best can we judge the content of a spiritual ducument? You clearly have very intelligent argument so I want to hear your thoughts on judging ancient scripture with historical facts and other scientific measures. |
Christianity Etc › Re: 10 Most Confused Statements In The Bible That Will Make You Doubt Christianity by tctrills: 8:38am On Oct 03, 2023 |
middlebelter: You are indeed an occasional reader of the scripture. The Holy Bible is a spiritual book and you only understand some aspects with the type of mindset with which you approach it. If you read with the mind to find faults or contradictions like you have done, the devil that doesn't want you to benefit from reading will load you with thousands of confusion. But if you, one on one with your maker ask God to lead you to the truth about the scriptures on the bottom of your heart, God will never fail to lead you to understanding of the truth.
Remember the same lawyer can twist the same section of law to mean different things to you depending on your understanding of the law, in the same vein, the devil is always ready to lead many without the spirit of God into more confusion especially when their objectives are sinister.
I therefore counsel you, the Holy Bible is not contradictory as you are trying to mislead people, scripture is used to explain the scriptures. If God says thou shall not commit murder and at another point say take your sword and execute judgement on your brother that have committed sin,. Is it not applicable even today? Government says don't commit murder, of you do the arms of the law will catch up with you, however the same government allows soldiers to kill insurgents and bandits that are citizens of this country. Can you see the need for orderliness here? Please stop misleading people about the scripture, it is a dangerous thing to do. Search him with all your heart in your room all alone, he will manifest if you do. You only attempted to explain one out of the 10 points. You spent much of your energy criticizing the post instead of providing meaningful answers. As Christians, our duty is to be the light of the world. We provide answers and meaning to the questions of life. Millions of people have issues with many portions of the bible and instead of accusing them of misleading others when they ask questions, we should provide them with answers. It's ok if you don't know the answers for now but stop attacking people who don't have the same beliefs as you. |

Kobojunkie: That statement in Exodus 4 that you pulled out of context was in fact metaphorical description of the people of Israel by God. A firstborn son typically refers to one individual in a family but in this case, the term is used in reference to a whole nation of people, a first indication that it is meant to be figuratively processed. In that passage, anyone able to see could tell that God described the people of Israel as having the same importance that a firstborn son would have to the likes of Pharaoh whose firstborn son He, God, threatened. Your personal opinion. I respect it but the word of God is not open to personal interpretation. So thanks. And yes, a nation can be described as a firstborn. Today, the Yorubas and the Benin argue about who is the first son of their common ancestry. One more thing, you claim that "anyone able to see could tell that God described the people of Israel as having the same importance that a firstborn son" So are you saying that Israel has the same importance as Jesus Christ? Is that your interpretation? |

Except if Late Prof Achebe is from same place as Obaino, this doesn't look fair politically correct especially among the kinsmen of Obaino who, for political and strategic reasons, located the airport in his own constituency.
I will not be surprised if this new name doesn't stand and may be changed later. Soludo should build a legacy project and name it after late Prof. This one should be used to honor Obaino. He seems to be focusing on less important priorities like renaming.

To illustrate, here it is:
O God Of Creation. Direct Our Noble Cause. Guide Our Leaders Right. Help Our Youth “The Truth” To Know. In Love And Honesty To Grow. And Live In Just And Truth. Great Lofty Heights Attain. To Build A Nation Where Peace And Justice Shall Reign.
It seems prophetic, as though those who composed it were actually speaking of today because I don't think there's ever been a time in this nation's history where it had been as applicable and relevant to the state of the nation as it currently is.
Perhaps it's time for this stanza to usurp the first since it seems much more relevant with regards the nation at this time.
The nation needs righteous leaders, honest and just youths, peace and justice now more than ever.
May God provide what this nation needs in Jesus name!
God bless. The second stanza is a prayer that has gone unanswered. Maybe it's time to drop it |

Matthew 19:4-6 (KJV)
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
If God, the Creator, joined male and female together in the beginning, no matter what the devil or men try to do to alter that divinely orchestrated pattern, they will never succeed.
Only one set would fit.
The male + female that God ordained it to be in the beginning.
