A man has bagged two years in prison after an Algerian Court found in guilty for dangling a baby out of a 15th floor window in order to generate "likes" on Facebook. The man posted a sickening picture of himself holding a baby out of a window in what appeared to be a high-rise building with the caption: "1,000 likes or I will drop him." After social media users demanded his arrest for child abuse, he was arrested on Sunday and charged with endangering the baby's safety. News site Al Arabiya reported that the child was dangled out of the 15th-floor window of an apartment block in the capital, Algiers. The man, who is a relative of the child, denied he put his life at risk, saying the image had been altered by social media users, Algeria's privately owned Ennahar TV reported. "The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed," he was quoted as saying. The child's father pleaded with the court to forgive the man, saying he had just been playing a game. However, the judge ruled against him, saying the picture was clear and the child's life was in danger. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state for Defence and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has debunked media reports that he has officially dumped his party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, party. In a series of tweets, the Ex-Minister said he only attended a Town Hall meeting organised by Remi Tinubu because he is a “constituent of Lagos Central Senatorial District.” “Whatever the future holds politically for us, it will be openly done by us and seen by all but right now, please disregard those rumours. “I commend Sen. Remi Tinubu once again as I continue to consult with my political associates and friends in Lagos, and also across Nigeria. “My attendance has been insinuated wrongly in the media but all such speculations remain firmly in the realm of rumours and imaginations. “As a Constituent of Lagos Central Senatorial District, I today attended Sen. Remi Tinubu’s Townhall Meeting to support her good work. Recall that rumour making the rounds had it that senator Obanikoro, announced his defection at a press Conference in Lagos on Tuesday. Recall also that on May 7, reports equally had it that Obanikoro who ran in 2011 as governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos state would soon pitch his political tent with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Lawmakers have passed a bill that will now allow a pregnant woman who suffers a miscarriage to obtain a birth certificate for the foetus. The certificates would be available to women whose pregnancies end after nine weeks (two months and one week) and before 20 weeks (five months). The first of its kind, the bill is named ‘The Grieving Families Act.’ The bill, which has also been signed into law by the governor, will allow the state to start issuing “certificates of nonviable birth” if parents request them. Lawmakers in the State of Florida in the United States had argued that the certificates would be available to women whose pregnancies end after nine weeks and before 20 weeks. In Florida, after 20 weeks, pregnancies that end in miscarriage are considered stillbirths and a death certificate is issued. It’s also the case in many other American states. With this new law, however, Florida parents of stillborn children can also now request a birth certificate if they want. Associated Press reports that the bill received support from Democrats and Republicans, as it passed unanimously in the state Senate and only had one “No” vote in the House of Representatives. A lot of people don’t recognize the complexity of blogging. Some go as far as referring it as some kind of hobby, rather than recognizing it as business . Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 4 things nobody tells you about blogging. Blogging is Not Some Get Rich Quick Scheme It’s nice to hear about blogs that charge thousands and hundreds of thousands for publicity or adverts of any kind. But what most people don’t get is that blogging is hard and it takes a lot of time and patience to be read widely enough to get noticed by firms, corporations and companies for publicity and advertisements. Most of the widely read blogs today took months, even years of consistent and tireless effort to get to where they are today and have the kind of recognition they have. Blogging is hardly a get rich quick scheme. Blogging is Not That Easy There is a general belief that running a blog is what you do when you either don’t have a job or don’t have anything better to do. Many believe it’s easy and requires little or no effort. That’s inaccurate. Aside having to constantly come up with interesting and engaging content for your blog (almost every hour of the day if yours is a news blog), you also have to consider the mails, questions and comments that you always have to attend to, to help drive engagement on your blog. Eventually, as your blog grows, you’ll realize it’s hardly something you can do on your own. A Blogger is Not Only a Blogger As a blogger, especially when starting out, in order to grow your readership you are going to feel the need to be a web designer (trying to find the right web layout that will be attractive and user friendly), a social media strategist (ensuring you use social media to get as much publicity for your blog as you can), an SEO specialist, a web marketing guru and an amateur photographer all at the same time! It’s a lot. You might not exactly be a professional in all the above mentioned areas, but you have to be able to handle them well enough not to suck at it and to help grow your blog’s readership. The Business Side Many people tend to underestimate or don’t understand the business side of blogging. They either start demanding for money too soon or are completely clueless about how sponsored content works around the policies of the corresponding firms, corporations and companies. A good number of people don’t realize that some brands or companies have payment terms of ninety days; meaning even after doing publicity for them, you might not get your payment until after three months. Some brands also have you working on sponsored content and you will have to send them draft upon draft till they like what they see. Since you’ve likely already signed a contract with them, you really don’t have much of choice. It is important to recognize the business side of blogging and try to understand it before going into it.

The Real Madrid superstar stands accused of owing as much as £13million, with Spanish prosecutors basing the case on four accounts of alleged fraud between 2011 and 2014. But Ronaldo, 32, appeared fully focused while training with Portugal today and later took to Instagram to post a picture with his finger to his lips — suggesting now was not the time to comment. Speaking yesterday at a ceremony for the national team, held in honour of coach Fernando Santos, Ronaldo took the opportunity to defend himself. When asked by a reporter about the lawsuits, Ronaldo said: "I have a clear conscience." Real Madrid also offered their full support to the Portuguese superstar, who netted twice as the Spanish giants beat Juventus 4-1 to win the Champions League earlier this month. A club statement said: "Real Madrid have full confidence in Cristiano Ronaldo, who we understand has acted in accordance with legality regarding the fulfilment of his fiscal obligations. Sgt. Thomas Agada who committed suicide on Sunday reportedly drank a bottle of beer before shooting his wife and her maid with an AK47 rifle at her restaurant in Nyanya Gwandara area of Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State. Checks revealed that Agada, who was attached to the Special Protection Unit of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, had just finished night duty when he carried out the attack on his victims. A hotel worker, who simply identified herself as Lydia told Northern City News on Tuesday that Agada drank some beer at Hotel ‘D Memories’ before the incident. She stated that the late sergeant did not finish his drink before storming out to the restaurant being run by his estranged wife popularly known in the area as Madam Angela. Lydia said, “The policeman came into our hotel around 9am on Sunday and ordered for a bottle of beer. But while sipping his drink, he was looking in the direction of his wife’s restaurant which was nearby. “After some minutes, he stood up and left his beer, saying, ‘Today is the end of this woman since she had chosen to divorce me.’ “The next thing we heard was gunshots and we all ran out to the scene to find the policeman lying dead on the ground and his wife and her maid in pains.” Our correspondent learnt that the deceased was depressed over the break-down of his marriage which saw the wife leaving their matrimonial home a few months ago. It was further gathered that Agada was annoyed when he learnt that his wife was involved in a relationship with another man. A source close to the family said Angela had a child for the late sergeant before their union broke down. The source said Agada was still in love with his former wife, adding that he was disturbed over the wife’s relationship with a man suspected to be her lover. The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State command, DSP Kennedy Idirisu confirmed the incident, saying Agada shot his former wife and her maid before turning the gun on himself. “We cannot say for sure now what could have led to the act, but we believed that the wife of the deceased currently receiving treatment would be of great help to our investigation once she stabilises,” he said. Yesterday in Taraba State, MEMBERS of Taraba State chapter of Miyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, clad with arms, took its protest against the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranchers Establishment Bill 2017 to the House of Assembly, threatening breakdown of law if the bill is passed. The anti-open grazing bill was sponsored as an executive bill to the state House of Assembly by Governor Darius Ishaku about a month ago. The speech of the state’s Chairman of Miyeti Allah, Sahabi Tukur, was read by Alhaji Adamu Azo at the gate of the Taraba State House of Assembly before the Speaker, Peter Diah, and other members of House. The association described the bill as a move targeted to subdue the Fulani tribe and also to undermine and restrict activities of the Fulani tribe in the state. The group called on the lawmakers to stop the bill in the collective interest of the people of the state. It also threatened that there would be a breakdown of law and order, should the House pass the bill into law. Speaker reacts While addressing newsmen, the Speaker, Diah, condemned the threats by the Chairman of Miyeti Allah, noting that the association was protesting in ignorance since the issues raised during the protest were accommodated within the proposed bill. He said the committee set up by the House of Assembly to handle the process of the bill had given three weeks within which to conduct public hearing on the bill before passage, where all issues that appear unclear will be addressed. He called on Miyeti Allah to compile all areas they are not comfortable with as a memorandum for the public hearing, stressing that the Assembly had given room for groups and individuals to attend the public hearing with their lawyers. He described the protest as a deliberate move by Miyeti Allah to cause public disorder in the state capital, as the group did not follow due process, which was the reason security did not allow them access into the assembly complex. He said: “How can you mobilise for protest and you allow your members to carry arms? The Assembly is an organised place and the security will not allow disorder. “I think that was why they were not allowed access into the complex, but as a leader who was elected by the people, I insisted I will attend to them, even in the midst of their weapons. … while Tiv leader raises alarm Meanwhile, President-General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Taraba State, Chief Goodman Dahida, yesterday, raised alarm that herdsmen have taken over highways in the state, robbing motorists and passengers. Read more here: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/herdsmen-arms-storm-taraba-assembly-threaten-showdown-grazing-prohibition-bill-passed/ Dahida, who alleged that he was robbed alongside Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Revenue Mobilization Matters, Jerry Tyolanga, and two others, at Iwari village on Wukari-Jalingo Highway, said the herdsmen had now taken their criminal activities from the farms to the highways, urging the Federal and state governments to step in. Tyolanga also lamented that the incident almost took the life of a former member of the state House Assembly, Donga Gbashi, who was in a state of shock while the operation lasted. He said: “They conducted a thorough search of Tyolanga’s car and they took all our monies and other valuables.” We were so unfortunate to be the first car that ran into them when they blocked the road, just a few kilometres to Iwale from Wukari. A teenage 'thief' may be forever humiliated after a tattoo artist caught him and inked his forehead with 'I am a thief'. The artist, Maycon Wesley from Brazil, cornered the teen - who had allegedly stolen a bicycle from a man with just one leg - sat him on a chair and filmed scribbling the damning words on his forehead. The full words, written in Portuguese are: Eu sou ladrão e vacilão, which translates to 'I am a thief and a loser'. After inking him, he then cheekily asks if the embarrassed teenager liked it. Local reports say that the boy - who seemed terrified while the artists drew on his head - went missing after the incident, which happened on Friday. The Imo state police command released a statement detailing how the incident happened. But as the video circulated online during the week. Nigerians pointed out the sharp contrast between the police version of the event and what was seen in the video. Following the much talked-about Imo State robbery incident in February, many readers have attacked the police harshly, while calling for Iboko to be honoured as a hero. In the statement signed by Andrew Enwerem, the spokesperson for the police in Imo, the command refuted reports that the robbers killed some people before making away with their loot. In fact, on Friday, Enwerem reiterated this to punch correspondent. “I can tell you without doubt that nobody was killed in that robbery. As I speak to you, no one has come to report to us that they were robbed on the bank premises that day. So, we cannot say the robbers made away with money,” he said. However, here are some disparities between that statement and what the video showed: “The four-man robbery gang who arrived the bank at about 3.10pm in an ash colour Toyota Camry car immediately started shooting but were confronted with stiff resistance from police personnel on guard at the bank,” the police statement said. But the video shows the robbers arrived the bank in a black Hyundai Elantra. “The Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, who received the report personally mobilised and led teams of police personnel to the scene in a frontal confrontation. At the end of the shootout, three policemen sustained various degrees of injury while one of the robbers was gunned down,” another paragraph in the police statement read. But the video only showed a policeman, who has now been identified as Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko, confronting the robbers in a gun duel. There was also no other policeman in sight in the video. In fact, a full minute after the robbers left the scene without any rush, their felled comrade was clearly seen gasping for breath in the video, but there was no police team in sight. Later reports of the incident showed pictures of the police commissioner with an entourage inspecting the scene of the robbery. It is unclear at what point he got there. The police also said, “One AK47 rifle with 100 rounds of ammunition and three magazines were recovered from the hoodlums. “More of the robbers would have been fatally injured if not but the crowd who were scampering for safety, which restrained the police from shooting innocent people.” But while the video showed people indeed scampering for safety, the only resistance they met was Iboko. Nigerians have been merciless as they criticised the police for this disparity. “It just shocks me how shameless the @PoliceNG was with that statement. The officer probably died but they’re busy claiming glory.” Al-ameen Yaqub, said on Twitter. “Disappointing and shameful. But not unexpected. I just hope this is a statement to another incident and not this one on the CCTV,” Epum Michael also tweeted. “Wow, what a statement. Feasting on every little opportunity to score high marks and outshining the brave officer who fought bravely,” Onyegbula @akahara, also said in reaction. Momoh De’Medici said, “They are talking about the CP and other operatives but forgot to mention the police officer who shot back and killed one. He’s a hero. The incident report doesn’t seem to match what we see in the video and did the CP take a rifle and personally go after the robbers? No.” Another Twitter user, Henry @henryoamen, said, “I wish you could publish this so that people can see how terrible our police force is. So the police just lied to everyone. Very sad.” Prince Mcmekus tweeted, “This is absolutely wrong. Proof of police force false reporting. Same way an innocent person will be labelled a criminal or armed robber.” It also became clear that the police did not expect the CCTV video to be leaked. Enwerem told Saturday PUNCH that he did not know how the video got out as he said the police could not have made it public due to the fact that the suspects were being pursued. Dancing can be a great workout for your heart and mind.Dancing is often considered a recreational activity and all too often overlooked for the positive physical, mental and social health qualities. Whitney Thore The self-proclaimed “fat girl” known for her appearances on the television show “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” describes it, “dance is the most basic and most honest form of communication between my mind and my body and between me and the world.” And as Emily Sandow, supervisor of dance physical therapy at NYU Langone’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries, phrases it, “the integration of the body and the soul” is key to any healthy lifestyle and at the center of dance. As Thore describes it, “dance is the most basic and most honest form of communication between my mind and my body and between me and the world.” The few points following would make you understand the importance of dance to your health. 1 . All You Need Is Yourself Dance provides a great cardiovascular workout that could be done anywhere without the hassle of going to a gym or any equipment. “You don’t need any workout tools; you don’t need any weights or machines or anything like that. Literally, all you need is yourself.” The workout you get from dancing can vary depending on the type of movements being performed. At the end of an hourlong ballet lesson, participants have undoubtedly stretched various muscle groups and executed moves with precision and balance. A night out on the dance floor at a club or wedding reception, however, often results in an increased heart rate for a longer period. “Social dancing is more cardiovascular because you’re doing endurance exercise for a long period of time. But if you’re doing technical skilled dancing such as ballet, usually, you’re doing quick bursts,” 2. Helps Body Movement In Adult Motor skills also stand to benefit, in both little ones and aging adults. “Although it looks like a highly specialized form, we still work on the fundamental principles of movement that every individual need to acquire to be able to go from a baby crawling on the floor to kneeling, walking, running, jumping, kicking.” And for older adults, “it’s great for your range of motion and allowing the joints to move freely through all planes of motion.” 3. Improves Your Memory Doctors have been trying for decades to find innovative ways to slow the cognitive decline seen in older adults. Aga Burzynska, assistant professor of human development at Colorado State University, wondered whether keeping them active would slow memory loss. “As we get older, in general, our cognitive functions start declining,” she said. So Burzynska focused her research on the issue and looked into ways to combat the deterioration. The resulting study was published this year in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. Researchers looked at adults ranging from their 60s to their 80s who had no signs of memory loss or impairment. Participants were assigned to one of three activities: brisk walking, stretching and balance training, or dance classes. Three times a week, those in the dance group practiced and learned country dance choreography. The goal, Burzynska said, was to see “how increasing aerobic exercise, increasing aerobic activities or introducing activities such as dance can help protect our brains from aging 4. Improves Your Mental Health We’ve all been in need of a “mental break” from time to time. Dancing, Sandow says, can offer the escape your brain needs. “It’s a good counter-activity to being stuck on a screen and being home.” A 2014 study found positive changes in mood for recreational dancers. Participants had higher energy levels and were less tense compared with competition dancers, who had stress levels similar to those of other competitive athletes. Not unlike a “runner’s high,” rhythmic movement has been shown to trigger the release of endorphins, which can boost your mood. 5. Balance and coordination Techniques taught in dance classes increase body awareness and encourage low-impact landings. These techniques, Sandow says, are not only useful for dancers on stage but for athletes who play impact sports, children developing motor skills and older adults concerned about injuries. “The aging population is at high risk for falls, and we think dance, especially, can be beneficial in reducing the risk of falls, because dance is just a series of balance tests,” Emily Sandow, supervisor of dance physical therapy at NYU Langone’s Harkness Center stressed in an interview. 6. Dancing has no age limit Unlike with many forms of exercise, there are no rules when it comes to dancing. Participants range from toddlers to retirees; anyone can join in and enjoy the experience. “We know that movement is good for everyone,” Sandow said. “A healthy lifestyle is integrating the mind, body and soul relationship, and dance has all of those characteristics.” Source: http://rayoonline.com/read-dancing-good-health/

Players of Lagos-based Ikorodu United FC have complained of the club’s inability to pay their salaries for the past six months. The players, who expressed their disappointment, told newsmen the unpaid salaries had affected their morale and those of the staff of the club. They said that the dwindling fortunes of the club in their campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL) were the result of the high indebtedness of the club to its officials and players. Ikorodu United was relegated to the lower league after their unsuccessful campaign in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Ikorodu United was demoted after coming last on the NPFL log with a measly seven wins, 11 draws and a huge 18 losses with just 32 points. However, things have continued to go from bad to worse as Ikorodu United is now battling relegation from the NNL. Source :http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/ikorodu-united-starve-players-6-months/ |

The calf was delivered in an animal shelter in India with eyes, nose and ears that resemble a human but died within an hour of its birth. As news of the cow's features spread, locals from surrounding villages flocked to Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, northern India in the belief it was an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Video shows people offering flower garlands and bowing before the animal, which has been kept in a glass box since its death, to seek its blessing. Villagers believe the calf is the ‘Gokaran’ - 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu and plans are now afoot to build a temple for him . "Thousands of people have been here to see it. We will be cremating him in three days and a temple will be built for him. "This avatar has most definitely created a devotion feeling among st the people." He added that the mother was rescued from a butcher and was brought to the shelter six months ago before she fell pregnant. Source: http://rayoonline.com/see-calf-born-human-facial-features/
