Couple of Weeks ago, AutosBay posted a write up on Nairaland, with the title WHY YOU SHOULD'T RIDE ALONG SIDE A HEAVY TRUCK.,I read the article and it was quite convincing and I was looking for a perfect time to share with Readers of my Blog. Last Monday after the African Fashion Week trip,I decided to take my Vehicle for repairs owing to the fact that the gear was bad as it almost ruined the engine. As the Mechanic/Spare part dealer was fixing the carefully manipulated mechanism,My eye caught a glimpse of my friend riding into Ilesa garage in his Uncle's Prado jeep. I beckoned on him, after we exchanged pleasantries,he asked what my mission was at the garage I explained ,after which I asked what he's was. He had dropped his uncle 'Alhaji' as we all call him off earlier before noon at his business associate's place where they were to embark on a journey to Ibadan in the other man's Jeep also a Prado. He Said Alhaji's call was what brought him to the garage as regards to been involved in an Accident.I jumped into the vehicle to sympathize with him,so we drove some meters to where Alhaji was. As we all know Onlookers got the screen of the incidence, sympathizer and all but bless God no one was injured, only the Vehicle was badly damaged from the back as a result of strong impact from the truck. The Driver had been apprehended and was be questioned as we arrived the scene.Notably,he was still in shock so much couldn't be heard off him.He could only mutter a word "break failed" Alhaji's Statement We had stopped at the NNPC Mega Station along the Akure-Benin Expressway for a refill when we noticed the way the Truck Over- sped and we were discussing how reckless the driver was. After We refilled the vehicle,Alhaji's Friend Said 'I noticed the truck again from a distance ahead and I decided to overtake.I was making good use of my side mirrors and noting the way this reckless driver was maneuvering behind. There was another truck in front so I made move to Overtake for safety.I had sped off thinking the dangerous truck was out of site ,I was approaching a bump at Ilara-Mokin road when I noticed this Vehicle had overtook others and was driving dangerously towards us.I couldn't do much speed on the bumps, last thing was a very loud sound and a continuous pushing till I reasonably applied breaks' What a Miracle you would say and give thanks to God?Yes it was and the driver was smart enough not to be behind the other truck. If they had been behind and this dangerous truck ran into them....We all know the end point. For every problem, someone is trying to sell a solution. No matter is too trivial to be monetized, even folding laundry. FoldiMate, a California-based startup, plans to sell a robot costing between $700 and $850 whose primary purpose is to fold your freshly laundered shirts and pants twice as fast as you could do it yourself. It can also “de-wrinkle” them with steam, and “perfume” them as it goes. It’s a pricey answer to a routine chore, yet folding laundry is evidently so odious that the FoldiMate is attracting serious attention, the Wall Street Journal reported. The company, which includes several engineers with robotics experience, says next year it will take pre-orders, and it expects the first units to ship in 2018. About 50,000 people as of this writing have registered to be notified when pre-orders begin, though that doesn’t offer a clear indication of how many will actually purchase it. A commercial version has been available since 2014, according to The Telegraph. The UK newspaper polled readers on whether they would pay £600 to never fold laundry again. Currently, 84% of respondents selected the response, “Shut up and take my money.” Just 16% went with, “What a ridiculous waste.” The FoldiMate’s purpose, price tag, and drawbacks have elicited some sarcastic reviews. “Lazy people, rejoice,” reads the headline of a piece from Reviewed.com, which said it wasn’t convinced the “first-world time saver” was worth the asking price. The FoldiMate can’t handle underwear or oversized items, such as bed sheets, and items to be folded need to be clipped on one-by-one. All were among the “many reasons”not to buy it, according to TheNextWeb. We’ve reached out to FoldiMate to see how the company responds to critics that say its robot is an overpriced fix for a minor nuisance. FoldiMate may illustrate the obsession among startups to find a technological improvement for everything, a mission that’s spawned a range of “smart” products, such as cups and diaper bags that just tell you what’s inside them. Yet some people do find folding laundry so tedious that they would spend almost $1,000 on a machine to do it for them. One person at Quartz said, “omg i would buy that thing.” Another replied that it was “obviously genius.” FoldiMate isn’t the only player in the high-tech folding space. Laundroid, by Japan-based company Seven Dreamers, is a folding machine about the size of a refrigerator, and unlike FoldiMate, you just dump your clothes in it. It takes several hours, but it will do most of it, though socks give it a hard time. No price or release date has yet been announced for the sale of Laundroid. TROOPS who helped to save Europe from Nazi tyranny will be remembered on the 72nd anniversary of D-Day on Monday. But was D-Day? What was D-Day? D-Day was June 6 1944 - the date that marked the start of the the Allied landings in Normandy in France during the Second World War. About 156,000 American, British and Canadian troops landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of Normany’s fortified coast that day. The assault is known as the largest seaborne invasion in history and led to the liberation of north-west Europe from Nazi control. The Normandy landings took place in 1944, nearly five years after Second World War broke out with Nazi Germany in 1939. What does the D stand for? The choice the letter D does not actually have any significance. D-Day is a military term for the day on which an operation or exercise is planned to start. The term D-Day was used to refer to a number of different operations during the Second World War but it is now only generally used to refer to the Allied landings. Although the most famous D-Day was on June 6 1944, there were a number of other D-Days during the Second World War. Portsmouth’s D-Day Museum says: “The ‘D’ does not stand for ‘Deliverance’, ‘Doom’, ‘Debarkation’ or similar words. In fact, it does not stand for anything. “The ‘D’ is derived from the word ‘Day’. ‘D-Day’ means the day on which a military operation begins. The whole operation was codenamed Overlord and its assault phase, codenamed Operation Neptune, took place between D-Day and June 30 1944. How many troops took part in D-Day? More than 62,700 British soldiers, plus 73,000 Americans and 21,400 Canadian, landed in Normandy on the first day of the invasion. Troops from other countries took part in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, which refers to the fighting between D-Day and the end of August 1944. Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Poland played a role in the historic invasion. The liberation of Paris from the Nazis on August 25 1944 is sometimes used to mark the end of the Battle of Normandy. How many vessels and aircraft were used? Operation Neptune involved 6,939 vessels and 11,590 aircraft were available to support the Normandy landings. Nearly 2,400 aircraft and 900 gliders of the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces carried out airborne landings on D-Day. How many Allied soldiers died on D-Day? For a long time the Allied casualties figures for D-Day were estimated at 10,000 including 2,500 dead. But the US National D-Day Memorial Foundation has now managed to verify the much higher figure of 4,413 fatalities on D-Day. I wrote Earlier yesterday https://www.nairaland.com/3135256/see-beyond-these-pictures#46099617 ,i was going to post an illustration later at noon, but could'nt..here is my debrief lol I was on my way from the farm last week when the sight of this vehicle caught my attention. At first it got me cracking with my workers but something wih in me gave an announcement that,it wasn’t really funny or a joke. Immediately I stopped laughing and tried communing with my inner mind.I obviously knew he was angry,Angry at the fact that I made a joke out of a serious situation.I started pounding on this thoughts like a wanderer lost in a maze, over days I tried figuring out what exactly to make out of this image but nothing came fort. I gave up trying to make a story out of the image ,then face my normal day job..which includes disseminating news and current gist to Readers across the planet. Each time I’m checking on pictures on my phone,I come across this picture and a thought would come up that I have this which is Original and yet cant make a story out of it. We talk about luxurious pictures by celebrities,Favorite sport men and women.Comedians,Crime and so on,Yet making a touching story out of this seem a bit difficult. I sat tight ,took a bottle of water for refreshment ,ate my left over bread from Shop rite ,got my laptop though with a the half charged battery and decided with hope i will make something out of this picture before it runs out. Sorry if my Story bores you ,stroll to the last paragraph, but those not bored continue reading Actually there’s been no light here since Friday, now to be honest there was light yesterday but it came on at night when it wouldn’t be useful for any one except the night owls.About last night,i came in tired after a stressful day ,slept dead tired woke up by 3am to see a tiny light shining by my head ..That was when i realized P.H.C.N left the light from their Holden.Luckily i plugged my Laptop and that’s why i have half charged battery to write this. Our beloved Country has basked in lots of glory from the past ranging from the dawn before independence ,to that after Independence..As we get old as a Country ,so many things keep happening. When i was little there were songs about Government which are still relevant to what’s happening today,do you mean to tell me there’s been no change.Songs from Independence ,the Military Era(Pro-Democracy) to the Democratic reign.Commendable artist such as African China,Fela Anikulapo Kuti,Femi Kuti,Dagrin,2FACE Idibia,Saheed Osupa,King Sunny Ade,Orlando Owoh just to mention a few Living and dead Patriotic Nigerians who sang about the situation and hardship the country was facing. Some of them spoke frankly and attacked the government on various issues, their points were valid and we appreciated them. Now back from the preamble ,the picture and its Illustration is what i have timely created and hope you can do some thing meaningful too Illustration Firstly I see the Car as Nigeria,The Nigerian Economy and its Independence..Now my point, Nigeria is our Country which God has given us,Good land,Natural Resources etc.The land is ever green and the vegetation favorable for all kinds of Crops. This cant work till someone makes it work , we are responsible to make it work . This Car was manufactured and sold new though sent down here as second handed goods ,but we all would agree most second handed vehicle sent to Nigeria or bought in Nigeria are not in any condition close to this car.Have you ever thought about it why once a car is brought into Nigeria ,it already received a death sentence.. This is not blasphemy its the truth and an average Nigerian would blame that on the Government..Yes it is the Government,You are the Government,I am the Government ,We are the Government. We have to carry that attitude, live with it ,grow with it ,take responsibility and do whats right at all time. This car wont get to this state without a driver ,even if it would depreciate in value and looks, the Engine would still be sound over years .We are the Driver, you are the driver,I am that Driver .Nigeria would remain Nigeria if not driven,if not used up ,if not Explored. My heart pours to the boys in the creeks.I understand your pains and agony. But dont be like this Driver. To the Sects in the North ,you have driven the car and almost drowning it,if water goes into the engine it would probably stop working. Nigeria is that Car see it as a precious gift ,care about it ,wash it ,use it carefully ,service it when due and it won’t get to that worse state. Many would say today that there is no hope for Nigeria,I will say there is ,the land is still green ,rain still falls and there is still day and night time..so far that is still in order God is still in control. We are a Nation that pray fervently,we worship God but the bible says Prayer without work is dead vice versa. Take a look carefully at this car ,the tires are deflated, the boots can no more hold goods as you can see the spare tires are on the car roof. The tail lights are out and the bumpers too. Now someone would say the Driver got to fend for he’s family ,yes he’s got that responsibility but if the car was well maintained ,it won’t get to that state. Many would say they have seen worse cars on the road, yes you have but that doesn’t make it a right ..many would say the economy is harsh and bad yes it is, there are people who own cars like this and its not in this state. The fact remains that in Good hands, this car can be remodeled, panel bitten, painted and made to look brand new.It is our duty now to co-operate with the Government,do what is right, stop slandering and believe in Our Nation Nigerians are good people,we are not criminals,we are not terrorists,we stand for whats right ,we lead and we lay good example that’s what our founding fathers would stand for.Lets stand united ,help each other, eliminate selfish interest and believe there is a future even if it all seems there is not but affirmatively there is a future for Nigeria if we stop being that Driver! Even though the drivers were wrong, vadalism is terror teegrams: |
Just saw this on Naij According to reports, traffic had built up along the Lagos-Ore expressway, with several drivers abandoning their normal lanes and opting for the wrong lane, worsening the already bad traffic. The soldier who was among travelers in a bus, alighted and decided to help clear up the traffic. The yet-to-be identified soldier picked up a big stick and proceeded to smash the side mirrors of the vehicles that had taken the wrong way. It didn’t matter if the vehicles were commercial vehicles or privately owned. While smashing the mirrors, the soldier can be heard shouting “are you crazy, are you mad? why did you follow this road?” and after a while, the traffic visibly reduced. Someone was later heard saying to the soldier, “Officer it’s okay, just relax, you have made a point”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVhv0ahaW3U |
