Last sunday my pastor came on the pulpit and started telling us that the 10yrs partnership that people had with the G.O has expired, that he now needs another set of partnership that will run up to 3yrs.these partners are to to be praying and fasting for him,and they are to be sending money to him ranges from 1oo to 1million naira monthly. i now sat down and thought of it and said pastor E.A.ADEBOYE is a multi millionaire, why on earth does he needs the money of people still struggling with life. i dont know if you guys are thinking along this same way.
"i now sat down and thought of it and said pastor E.A.ADEBOYE is a multi millionaire", Are you his accountant? or you have inside knowledge of his finances? If your life depended on it can you maintain that he is?

why on earth does he needs the money of people still struggling with life Chances are people who are struggling with life won't contribute kobo to this project as they are already "broke". This call is only for people who trust the man and believe in the vision and of course have the resources.

i dont know if you guys are thinking along this same way I am sure there are people who identify with your level of reasoning, shallow and very limited as it may seem

will the children of poor members be given scholarship? because obviously the fees will be high
the same children of so called "poor people" who dont pay tithe, give offering or contributed nada now expect to reap where they have not sown, it doesnt work like that.
Besides so if a church sets up a school/uni how on earth is it meant to provide standard education if it is highly subsidized? Or are you suggesting that the founding church should continue to bankroll the university? And how is the church supposed to do this when there are people on NL who advocate that rather than pay tithe/offering monies should be donated to the poor!!

you mean a pastor will work for the church and not get paid? How will he work efficiently if he cannot pay his rents, pay children school fees, provide food for his family or even travel to spread the gospel? sometimes I wonder if these kinds of topics are posted by christians.
Haba jmore why didnt you complete that statement? Ok make i help you, "Sometime I wonder if these kin of topics are posted by christians or people with less than 1 brain cell" Now how about that, wink

The poster comes up with a daft topic without even applying any sort of reasoning whatsoever, The pastor should spend his time preaching/praying/counselling so that his parishioner's life can be blessed at the same time spend countless nights praying for God to provide miraculously so that he can pay his house rent/school fees or even feed his household all because people like the poster thinks pastoral work is a call to suffering and penury.

Sir,
I commend you for having the patience to respond to the poster; it is obvious he/she is all out to condemn anything and everything christianity. So much so that he/she trawls the internet for any article that aligns with or supports her morbid hatred for christianity/church.
This latest attempt just goes to show how uninformed and desperate she is; quoting scriptural references without any sort of understanding of the context it was made.
I'll rather leave her type to keep trying to "kick against the pricks" knowing fully well that the same fate that befell Paul would one day(I pray) be hers,

Religion / Re: Should Students Pay Tithe? by TeeJay6(m): 10:13am On Feb 09, 2012
FXKing2012:

Pls study the scriptures for yourself to know if tithing applies to us as Christians who have been redeemed. Dont just do something just becos u were told, read the scriptures.

Give me the scripture that YOU follow when you "tithe."

When you say we have been redeemed what exactly are you referring to? Redemption from sin or redemption from the law of sin and death?

Romans 8:1-4/7
1. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
2. because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death
3. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,
4. in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit
7. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will.

Romans 8:3-4 explains that Jesus working through us by the power of the Holy Spirit is to help us do what the Law (which was just the knowledge of good/evil) could not do; i.e. live above sin with the result that we can now fulfil the RIGHTEOUS REQUIREMENT OF THE LAW. To suggest that the coming of Jesus brought about the doing away of the law of righteousness is totally untrue. Also what did Jesus say about this im Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former

If your argument based on Heb. 8:13 is to be observed then the following is no more applicable

Exodus 20:2-17
2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Does the abolition of the law mean the above commandments are no longer applicable to us as new testament Christians?

I am just thinking abt something; please can someone help out:-

A billion naira private jet for Pastor so that he can go for evangelism

                              OR

100,000 naira shared to 1000 committed members who re struggling; so that they can
use it to start businesses after attending the church organised business seminar.

which of these two; will really more affect lives; touch sinners to come to the church & also spread the gospel faster??

While I don't think owning a jet is mandatory for the preaching of the gospel, your suggestion that the church dish out N100k to so called "committed members who are struggling" is flawed.
1) Who is not struggling financially? Even millionaires would tell you they are struggling.
2) How you do you measure committment? And how do you arrive at the conclusion that there are 1000 "committed members" struggling?
3) How do you know that the people you dole out N100k to are actually going to use the funds for business set up?
4) How do you deal with the situation whereby haven heard of the hand-outs other "more committed members" demand a pay out so that they can pursue their business ventures?

So then God is no longer your spiritual father? please expound on those verses and compare with those commentaries. Is there a conflict here or you don't understand what you wrote?
God is "God/Creator/Heavenly Father/Maker" and nothing in the verses I quoted negates this. Forget about commentaries afterall the people who penned the commentaries were merely passing across their personal interpretations informed mostly by studies of the history of the biblical times.
There is no conflict whatsoever, the verses shows that the delegated leaders of the church are your earthly spiritual fathers who (hebrews 13:17) (see John 21:17; where Jesus Himself commits the "sheep" unto peter).
Religion / Re: Do You Not Know It Is Wrong To Your Pastor 'daddy'? by TeeJay6(m): 3:55pm On Jan 31, 2012
Whilst I totally agree with the aforementioned; a clear disticntion ought to be made between the use of the term "Father" and "Daddy".
The verse the poster quoted was forbidding anyone from calling any man "Father"(Ref Matt 6:9); for to do so would be nothing short of idolatry. That said, Gal.4:19, 1Jn4:4, 1Jn.2:1, 1cor.4:15 shows that your pastor can be referred to as your spiritual father/shepherd.

I'll stat considering his words seriously if he commands his 'followers' to stop calling him 'Father' or 'Daddy' in line with Jesus commandments!

By the way, I am guessing you meant start, and not stat.

1) Pastor E A Adeboye does not need your affirmation in anyway shape or form, whether you take his words seriously or would never keep him awake at night with worry, You wanna know why? There are millions all over the world (not just nigerians) who treasure the gift of God in him.

2) As for being deluded because we choose to call him our "daddy"; I would gladly assume that tag as long as my life is enriched by the gift and grace bestowed upon his life/ministry.

@poster you ignorantly and mischievously  commented that Pastor Adeboye has sent all his children abroad; I can tell you that all of his 4 children with the exception of the female one who is married and resides abroad, all his children live in Nigeria. infact, one of them who was pastoring in the UK was posted to the north about a year or so ago.
So before you make inaccurate and outlandish comments make sure you verify the facts.

I know a friend who can barely feed but he still carries more than 5k to give his pastor in the name of sowing seed(christ embassy).
At least he still manages to raise N5k to sow as seed, so in a way you cannot fault his committment.

@op
The bottomline is that you cannot impose your personal conviction on others, Your apathy to tithing may not be shared by others hence I cannot see how you can be telling people what to do with their money, Who are you to do this??

The general misconception here is that people who tithe are generally poor or worse off for doing so; what these mischief makers conveniently fail to acknowledge is that there are people who are wealthy/blessed who are committed to tithing 100%.

Pastor Kun:

Let's even assume that tithing is applicable to christians, why doesn't he preach it as it is taught in the bible? As in tithes based on harvest and animals to be given to the widow, orphan, stranger and levite? Why must he twist it to suit himself and tell us it is based on monetary income strictly to be given to the 'church'. Is that not twisting of scriptures? Does his heart not prick him when he subverts the word of God?
Before I respond to this^^^, provide me with an excerpt/DVD/CD of any of his teachings on Tithing, Especially the ones where the highlighted part above can be substantiated.

Pastor Kun:

How won't he believe it when he is a chief beneficiary of the tithing scam? It still remains a fact that tithing has no place in the gospel of christ and any preacher that preaches it as such is preaching a false gospel.
That you hold this belief does not make it a fact!! People like the aforementioned strongly believes that tithing is a biblical doctrine and not only practices it but also teaches and admonish people to do so, now this is his personal conviction.

Does Adeboye's heart not prick him when he twists scripture and manipulate his congregation into believing tithing is mandatory for all christians?
Wrong sir!
He does not need to twist scriptures at all, all he does is to tell them what the bible says, what he practices and leave the people to decide whether or not they want to comply. Believe it or not it is the pastor's duty to emphasise the scriptures and as such I'd expect his heart to prick him if he decides to backdown on what he wholly believes to be mandatory just because people like you are offended by the truth.

It is not the fact that he prays for them that is the issue but whether his association with these people makes him compromise his stand with God.

He however is not saying they are rubbish acts, or else hw wouldnt have invited both acts to his X-factor programmes over the years,

http://realitytvmagazine.sheknows.com/2011/09/29/did-simon-cowell-slam-lady-gaga-and-beyonce/
,
But, according to Radar Online, Simon Cowell has set the record straight with them, and claims he never slammed either singer! A rep for Simon Cowell told the gossip site: “This was completely misreported. It’s the complete opposite in fact,” adding that “Simon is a massive fan of both and he always refers to them as amongst the artists he most admires. He thinks they are two of the most interesting, talented and relevant artists today.”
While Simon’s rep set the record straight, Simon Cowell also had some comments of his own as he told Radar Online that Beyonce is “the biggest star we’ve seen in 20 years; we’re seeing sort of the rise of the super female pop star,” while Lady Gaga he referred to as “having The X Factor” and “a total, utter star.” What do you believe? We know that Simon Cowell can be harsh sometimes, but something tells us that he did not bash either of these two ladies.
