Politics › Re: Buhari Re-nominates Aliyu Abubakar NCC Job, Rejected In 2016 By Senate by telleyway: 1:28pm On Jul 18, 2019 |
ivandragon: A man nominated last week by President Muhammadu Buhari as commissioner in the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) was once rejected for the same position by the Senate over shady academic records, PREMIUM TIMES can report.
Aliyu Abubakar was named among five nominees sent by President Buhari as announced by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the Senate’s floor penultimate Tuesday.
This was the second time the Bauchi-born Mr Abubakar is tapped for the plum job. He is proposed to represent the North-east on the NCC board.
Mr Abubakar was first nominated in 2016 for the position but was rejected by lawmakers in November of that year.
He was rejected along with a former speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yisa Ezekiel, whose qualification as a nurse posed a hitch for him to satisfy the criteria.
The lawmakers hinged their decision on Mr Abubakar’s lack of adequate training and experience, as stipulated by the law. They also questioned the genuineness of the available documents he presented for screening.
Mr Abubakar’s paraded qualification of diploma in computer falls short of the requirement of the NCC Act for commissioners of the telecom regulator.
The Act stipulates that appointees for that role must have qualification and experience in stated relevant fields.
The listed expertise areas are finance or accounting; law; consumer affairs; telecommunications engineering; information technology; engineering generally; economics; and public administration.

“For instance, one was a career nurse and the other was a holder of a one-year diploma in computer as highest qualification. The question is: what inputs would they be making towards consolidating on the on-going improvements in the agency,” a Senate report noted at the time.
In raising doubts over the credibility of his claimed qualification and experience, the lawmakers said Mr Aliyu was “a candidate who is not prepared for the demands of the office such as required” of the NCC job
A Senate committee headed by Gilbert Nnaji said Mr Abubakar could not produce credible educational certificates for the committee to verify at the screening.
“He obviously lacks the professional and educational disciplines provided in section 7(1) (a-h) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 which stipulates the qualification of the Commission’s Board”, Mr Nnaji said then.
The committee queried the Police Extract and Court Affidavit Mr Abubakar submitted for the loss of his School Certificates, dated September 21, 2016.
The committee expressed suspicion of Mr Abubakar’s claim that the documents got lost on September 19, 2016, well after he had been nominated for the position.
Mr Nnaji said the nominee only collected his diploma in computer studies, completed at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 2000, in September 2016.
“For his Diploma in Computer Studies completed at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 2000, Mr Aliyu Abubakar ultimately collected the result in September 2016 because, according to him, he did not see any reason for its collection as he never intended to do any government job with it”, Mr Nnaji said.
Controversial figure Memorable narrative from Mr Abubakar’s Senate hearing at the time was his heated encounter with the lawmakers over his strong censure of the Senate in the past.
The nominee, who was confronted with evidence of his criticism of the legislative arm of the government, including leading protests at the gates of the National Assembly, owned up to the position and proceeded to defend his stance.
He flayed the Senate as extravagant and called for its scrapping.
Mr Abubakar said “the senate is an avenue for wastage of scarce economic resources of the country” and should be abolished to save the country’s finances.”
It is unclear what action the current Senate will take on the nominee.
Inquiries put to Garba Shehu, a spokesperson of the president, on why Mr Buhari renominated Mr Abubakar despite the Senate’s damning report, was not answered.
A text message sent by this reporter on Mr Shehu’s request is yet to be replied.

Osinbajo revealed this during his courtesy visit to Chike Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba, on Friday. Politics › Re: FCT Natives, AOIYEO To President Buhari: We Are Necessary But Not Evil by telleyway: 12:28pm On Jun 07, 2019 |
Priscy01: Some natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have condemned a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari describing them as ‘necessary evil', Igbere TV reports.
The natives, under the auspices of Abuja Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO), in a statement to the president obtained by Igbere TV, Commandant Isaac David, described the statement as hate speech.
Media reports had quoted the president as telling Senator Philip Aduda, who was part of an FCT delegation who paid him Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, that, “I have all the results of all constituencies. I am not threatening FCT because to make FCT secure is to make myself secure and the vice-president. I think they know that they are necessary evil that was why they decided to vote for PDP.”
David said the people took exception to the statement, adding that though the president said he was for nobody, “we believe he is for us as our governor and should direct our affairs with that unbiased mindset.”
He said the president lost the election in FCT due to several factors including complacency by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the territory.
He recalled that the natives also queried the fact that in 2015, President Buhari promised to the indigenes at the Palace of the Ona of Abaji to appoint one of their own as minister of the FCT, but did not, adding that left no one to monitor the elections on his behalf.
“The president travelled to Katsina State to vote, the Vice President travelled to Lagos State to vote and the FCT Minister travelled to Adamawa State to vote leaving the indigenes who constitutionally they represent as governor, deputy governor and acting governor in limbo and therefore amenable to influence by extraneous forces beyond their control.
“This is the more reason why the president should appoint the Minister of the FCT from the indigenes, somebody who speaks their language and knows them as is the case with the executive governors in the 36 states,” he said.

So because ones opinion is different, he/she is either tagged corrupt, evil and the likes. So where's the democracy we are practicing? In America, be it opposition or not, America comes first. Politics › Re: APC To Oyegun: You Lacked Oshiomhole’s Courage To Face Saraki, Dogara, Others by telleyway: 8:24pm On Jun 04, 2019 |
bellachibaby: he All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked former National Chairman, John Oyegun, saying he and the National Working Committee he led as National Chairman lacked the courage required to confront the pockets of political despots who could not operate by the party’s rules. The party cited the National Assembly saga in 2015 that saw the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker against party wishes, while Oyegun could not do anything about it till he left office.
PC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in an interview with journalists, spoke in reaction to Oyegun’s comments that incumbent chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was leading the party using “agbero” (tout) style.
The resultant effect, he said, was widespread indiscipline across party ranks, lack of respect for party supremacy as witnessed in the 8th National Assembly leadership and its overall inability to align the varying interests of the legacy parties that came together to form the APC in 2014. “Let me agree that the NWC that led the party into the 2015 elections and continued till June 2018 did nothing different from what you would find in PDP.
“It was a period the party was seen as a mere vehicle to attain political office. The system accommodated impunity as certain members appeared to be superior to the party.
“Their interests were far more important than the collective interests of the APC, even when most times such interests are at variance with the ideals the party stand for.
“You would recall that it was under that leadership that some impudent members of APC called the bluff of the party by imposing themselves on the National Assembly as leaders contrary to the position of the party. Where was the party?
“Where was the discipline when this happened? It would be difficult to calculate what lack of courage to assert the party supremacy cost APC over that period.
“The consequences of the inaction of the party were unimaginable. We all saw the consequences on governance as the National assembly practically held our government to ransom.
“The impunity, which President Muhammadu Buhari has rightly described as lack of patriotism, constituted an unfortunate hindrance to the smooth running of government.
“The leadership under Chief Oyegun, with due respect to him, condoned all sorts of acts of indiscipline from certain members. It is not surprising that the current National Working Committee inherited such a huge mess, where the party was struggling to differentiate itself from the delinquent PDP. Read full statements here https://thickmatch.com/lacked-oshiomholes-courage-face-saraki-dogara-despots-apc/ APC like Buhari is but a gathering of self righteous people. Under Oshomole, entire Rivers and Zamfara states couldn't participate in elections, more states lost to pdp, many more are still hanging in the air. Yet they're still making reference to the agbero as national chairman. |
Politics › Re: Zamfara: Why They May Be A Rerun Election. by telleyway: 8:05am On May 25, 2019 |
NgeneUkwenu: That APC has been disqualified by the Supreme court, and subsequently voided their votes, is no longer a news.
However, the Supreme court in passing their Judgement was being careful and vigilant not to create another constitutional crisis, hence the caveat " the second highest scoring party which met the Constitutional requirements should be sworn in as elected.
Now, which party came second?- PDP
Did the PDP meet the constructional requirements, for instance in the Governorship election?
Then, let's see the scores of PDP and APC as regards the Zamfara Governorship Election:
The apex court ordered that runner-up candidate be sworn in if he fulfils the constitutional requirement of getting one quarter of the total votes cast in at least 2/3 of LGs of d state.
Here is the analysis:
Total votes cast: 810,782 APC: 534,541 votes PDP: 189,452 votes
Now if you remove the Voided Votes which now include that of the APC...You are now left with 189,452 votes of the PDP and about 10,000 combined votes of the "also ran" parties which will total about 200,000 votes.
From the above analysis, it is very clear that void votes are way higher than valid votes, which a winner CANNOT be Validly Returned.
Only Option before the INEC: order a rerun of the entire election, which must exclude APC ( Since the window for primaries had since closed).
Option before APC: Adopt one of the "also ran parties" put the picture of Buhari on the banners, and let their candidates be the candidates of the APC.
End!..
lalasticlala Mynd44...
Let the legal minds interact here. That's your reasoning, but in this case, Apc votes does not constitute cancelled but waste votes hence, can be considered as non existent votes. |

AUTOJOSH1: https://autojosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/police-checkpoint.jpg
According to some series of tweets by Nigeria Police Force on Twitter, they revealed some tips for safe and cordial relationship at checkpoints. @PoliceNG is the official Twitter handle of the Nigeria Police Force.
This may go a long way in ensuring you’re on the right side of the equation in case you have an encounter with them.
Below are the tips;
When approaching a security checkpoint or when flagged-down by the Police or other security agencies;
1. Endeavor to slow down your vehicle. It shows that you are not reckless. It also douses suspicion that you are a criminal and may want to speed-off.
2. Turn down the volume of your car stereo. Courtesy demands this. Besides, you are able to hear each other better. This simple act will also help you to win the confidence of the security operative.
3. Keep your hands visible to avoid unnecessary suspicion or fear by the officers that you are attempting to bring out a gun or other harmful objects to attack them
4. Turn on the inner light of your vehicle while approaching the cops (if at night). It readily sends an unspoken message that you have nothing to hide.
5. Be friendly and cheerful. Commend the officers especially when you see them working under very unfriendly weather conditions such as the rains, the harsh harmattan conditions, excessive heat, cold or sunshine. We know it’s their job, but a little kind word from you will do a lot of good. Remember when you smile at the mirror, the mirror smiles back at you.
6. Endeavor to be polite even when answering questions put to you by the officers
7. Don’t dare or challenge an armed security man to a duel. Oftentimes, you hear people say things like ‘shoot me, if you can!” Note that this is a recipe for disaster! It is very provocative and an unnecessary call for war. So, please play safe, more so, as you do not know the state of mind of the officer concerned.
8. Also, don’t go into a physical fight with an armed security officer. He may resort to the use of his weapon (rightly or wrongly) to defend himself.
9. Avoid unnecessary argument with armed security personnel.
There are a thousand and one ways to seek redress where you feel your rights have been infringed upon.
10. Never try to touch an officer in an unfriendly manner. He may suspect you of trying to disarm him
11. If you are a regular traveler or road user, make sure you have the police emergency phone numbers of the route you operate. You never can tell when an emergency situation could arise and you need the Police to come to your aid.
12. Make sure you have all your relevant car papers and desist from actions or inactions that constitute either a criminal or traffic offence. Such infractions of the law provide veritable grounds for possible charges and other forms of adversarial contact with the Police or other law enforcement agencies, including unnecessary arguments.
13. Give the impression that you are unhappy to see an officer on his beat or that he is wasting your time. But if you do have an emergency, politely inform the officer. Don’t speed off while still being checked.
14. Take note of the name tags, Force or Service numbers, personal description, description of weapons or patrol vehicle of the security officer especially where the officers begin to conduct themselves in unprofessional manner.
15. Seek audience with the most senior police officer at the check point if things are not working out smoothly.
16. Politely insist to be taken to the police station if your complaint is not properly addressed.
Source: https://autojosh.com/tips-safe-police-checkpoints/ 17. Ensure you have your #50 handy to avoid unnecessary harassment and incrimination . This one they will not tell you. Nigerian police I hail. |
