Also, how many times do I have to mention that I know that Smalling one on one tackling is impressive before you get it? Also, if a defender's positional discipline is good enough, he won't need to do too much tackling in a game!

Morgan's reading of the game and positional discipline are far better than Smalling. He also takes more risk on the ball with his dribbling which shows how good he's on the ball. He's also as physical as Smalling.
Hence, not just Smalling poor football skills that's the problem.

Anyway, being composed on the ball doesn't mean you must be a great passer. For example, Januzaj/Martial are composed on the ball but not good passers. Even Jones who's not as technical as the aforementioned two, has a good touch on the ball as opposed to Smalling.

Talking about playing pattern. This was what you guys said when LVG was coming. I remember there was a lenghty article about Gaal's playing pattern, how his players can control game, do not give possession awayion over the opponents which guarantees game control, etc. So how had having a pattern help us and having a world class coach.

Also Everton had a pattern. Everton played a high tempo football, and they were the most feared outside the top four. When City beat United every day, Everton used ten men to dominate City and won 2-0. I think Moyes would have done better if given a second season, perhaps we would have saved ourselves the financial wastages of the last two summers.

Again if you look at Chelsea, you would understand that it's possible for a team to move from number 1 to mid table.

Ryan Giggs absent from Old Trafford: Manchester United assistant on compassionate leave

Ryan Giggs was absent for Manchester United's game against Stoke City due to a family illness.

It was noted that the assistant manager had not taken up his usual seat in the Old Trafford dugout alongside Louis van Gaal, even sparking rumours that he was set to be appointed as Celtic manager.

However the reason for the former player's absence was compassionate leave due to a family illness.

Giggs missed a fine performance from Manchester United.
