Abeg put the thread up. Please remember two things

1. The version of Win 8 shown off is at pre-Beta level. Making sweeping assumptions on the final product is just plain silly. As far as performance is concerned, at least Win 8 has been shown to run capably on hardware that can run Win 7 (Even down to ancient Atom CPUs)

2. Abeg the '$' sign in MS is just plain old. What is this, 2005? At a point, even rabid fanboys grow up to realize that for companies like MS, Apple, HP etc have the sole aim of making as much money as possible for their shareholders.

I wonder where some folks get their info and post it on here. Do they get this from correct sources or just thoughts in their heads? Blackberry, faced with near eclipse by iphone and android ARE contemplating porting BBM to ios and android. Only snag seems how they are going to assign pins to these device for compatibility on BBM. As a step forward for Blackberry, they have ported the Dalvik Virtual Machine (the android os container) to Blackberry OS; meaning newer Blackberry devices like the Playbook could run android apps. Granted that android is open source, this could not have happened without Google's blessing and something in return from Blackberry. Which makes the porting of BBM a question of when rather than if.
You phucking idiot. I said

I'm asking because that seems to be the only catch keeping the BB spirit alive, well that and the fact that BB's still have better batteries than most (if not all) android phones (important for the average on-the-go business person).

Even the Blackberry OS 7? I've been led to believe that it is quite an improvement upon OS 6.
It's now GPU accelerated and backed up by a decent 1.2Ghz processor so it's much less laggy.
Still, in terms of UI design, responsiveness and intuitiveness, it falls way behind iOS and Android. The app library isn't anything to write home about. RIM seems to be trying to lure devs to port Android apps over to the App Player for PlayBook and then (rumored!) the upcoming QNX OS phones in 2012.

Still, the OS7 devices are now decent purchases. powerful enough, decent screen resolutions and Open GL support make it so. At least much better than that abomination called the BB Torch 9800.

Moreover, the power sector is already recording huge success. Oh, I forgot you are typing from Vietnam. Sorry. Anyway, this is to inform you that the power project is already recording big improvements as Lagos is now enjoying huge success in power supply. some places have been enjoying 24 hours light for a while now. My friend in Lekki confirms light has not bliked for 6 days now. Something that has never happened before in the history of Nigeria.
Forgive me for thinking you were an intelligent fellow. Even when you are constantly inundated with actual power generation figures in MW, you choose to go the 'market woman' route and start trying to back up your claims by whining about steady electricity in some areas?
See link below

http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/news/76-hot-topic/24599-fg-fails-to-deliver-on-its-power-target
While the Power sector reform roadmap targeted total power generation of 7,033 megawatts of electricity by April 2011, actual power generation as of Tuesday, July 12 was a dismal 3,200 megawatts.

This is still a far cry from the 5,755 megawatts of power government technocrats said would be the realistic delivery target by the end of the first quarter of this year.
Your deduction on power generation 'improvement' makes as much sense as someone turning his back on hard facts like Boko Haram and claiming Nigeria is now a safer place because armed robbery in Oshodi is on the decrease.
For providing such a daft input to this discussion, I advise you to set a suitable penance for yourself (5 mins of Frog Jump will not be amiss)

Which of the new IOS are you gonna compare to the BB flagship to? You wanna compare the I4 to the 9800 ir you wanna compare it to Bold 9900?

Taking out the BBM and BIS connectivity from the BB is like taking away the Apple appstore from the i4, the i$ becomes just a flash disk. However, I am more inclined to compare them when you have the full experience bundled on the two phones, then you would see the clear leader in productivity is the BB. As a multimedia system, the Torch 9800 even beats out the i4, so other than the overblown issues of millions of apps (for which an average person has 10) then there aint nothing more.
Abeg, that abomination called the Torch 9800 is in no way comparable to the iPhone 3GS, not to talk of the iPhone 4. The Torch hardware was dated even when it was being announced. A 480 x 360 resolution phone in 2010? With a decaying 600 Mhz processor, no 3D graphics hardware and a smaller screen and you're comparing it to the iPhone 4?

iOS 3 on the 3GS was 100x more fluid and responsible than the laggy mess on the Torch 9800.

As a 'productivity device', you BB fans don't just get it. I wouldn't mind getting my emails 30 seconds later on the iPhone 4 than on the Torch when it means I have access to at least 4 different office suites on the AppStore that you can't get on the BB platform.

Disclaimer: I have a Bold 9780, so I know what I'm talking about there. the only decent Blackberries are the new OS7 devices. All the rest are shitty.

Your response amuses me to no end, but I am not surprised at the paucity of common sense in your reply. You have never been known on NL for injecting any appreciable intelligence in any discussion.
So the comment made by a councillor determines the overall behavior of Abia people?.Apparently, you are not a Nigerian because many states did the same when new ones were created. Ondo state expelled all Ekiti indigenes back to their states, Anambra(If I'm not mistaken) did the same for Anambra indigenes, Edo fired all Deltans working at Benin, Lets not talk about Oyo and Osun states, Many middle Beltan states did the same .
I spent one year in Abia state and I and a large number of my fellow Corps members at that time came away with that stereotype embedded in our minds. While I have grown older, wiser and less eager to generalize or stereotype, I still remember how institutionalized that disdain for non-indigenes was in many people in that state. I remember it and I chose to share it here on NL. What's the issue?

Was Igbinedion also in power when they petitioned the pope and the president on the issue of VC?
I have no idea why Oshiomhole's name came up in your argument. My statement was brief and simple: The people of Edo State came out to get rid of their oppressors. They did not reward failure like the people of Abia did. If Oshiomhole fails, he will be voted out in the same way.
I should have thought my point was crystal clear for even a 10 year old to understand. Why are you allowing this spirit of daftness to run unchecked in you?
Voting out Ohakim has nothing to do with the issue at hand. The people of Imo state can still(if they are not doing it now) discriminate against non indigenes under Rochas. Nigerians are generally like that, if you are not Yoruba, good luck if you intend to become a top pastor in Redeem church; If you are from Osun, good luck if you intend to have a good career as a civil servant in Oyo state; if you are not from Edo, good luck with your career in Christ Embassy; If you are not Igbo, good luck with a career in the movie industry; if you are not Hausa/Fulani, good luck with your career in FG contracts and so on.

So you know the den of kidnappers?. Last time I checked, Abia produced a kidnapping kingpin[osisikakuw] like Edo produced Iyamu, Oyo produced Oyenusi and Shina Rambo, Delta produced Anini etc. So, does it mean that the most brainless, senseless and bloodthirsty armed robbers are from Oyo state?.

So, Edo is now living in paradise since they voted in Oshiomole[having suffered enough]?. Imo is now paradise after Ohakim left? Lest I forget, Ajimobi has transformed Ibadan into Pretoria since the people of Oyo got tired and kicked Akala out?. How about Ekiti post Ayo Fayose? Still impoverished or are they very prosperous now.
Please see my comment above. Does the fact that the Egyptian revolution did not yield perfect results diminish the heroism and courage they demonstrated in standing up to Mubarak?
I have mentioned clear cases where people moved for the change they desired/needed yet here you are babbling about prostitution and lawrence Anini. Why are you this addled?

With people like you in that state, no wonder the Abians surrendered their necks meekly for the Orji yoke once more. Join them and suffer, when you have suffered enough you will not need me to tell you what to do when the next elections roll by.

Politics › Re: Abia ‘deports’ Non Indigenous Workers by texazzpete(m): 2:37pm On Sep 09, 2011
Excellent!

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not applauding the move, i think it is quite possibly the most imbecilic thing any politician can ever think of doing. But i'm not surprised. When I served in Abia state, that was the only state in Nigeria where Local Govt council officials were openly scheming Corps members out of the Polio + Vitamin C immunization campaign just to put their own people there. As one councillor muttered to my hearing "Why should Corper come and take our job"?

No, why I'm happy is that schemes like these will visit suffering upon many of the masses in Abia State.

You see, suffering is the only thing that can drive Nigerians to redeem themselves. The people of Edo State rose up against the PDP after 8 years of disastrous misrule by PDP's Lucky Igbinedion (Curses be Upon Him!). The sight of the usually tribalistic Bini people protesting violently against the election of their fellow bini brother gave the clear message that these people were fed up, they had suffered enough and wanted no more of the party that gave them Lucky Igbinedion (Thrice Accursed!).

The people of Imo State were even more creditable! They cast aside Ohakim after just 4 years of suffering! They must be applauded for their rejection of suffering, even more that the good people of benin.

So now we come to Abia State. Even with all the years of Godfatherism, political killings and unchecked Kidnapping (the most brainless, senseless and bloodthirsty kidnappers in Nigeria are based there) they still elected the same crooks that have been dealing with them. Even with all the lack of development and rampant theft of state funds!

So the only conclusion is that they have not suffered enough. Perhaps when they suffer more in the next 4 years, they'll grow the cojones to do what must be done. If not, we'll continue looking at them with pity  grin.

Shame has failed to redeem Nigerians. perhaps suffering will? We'll see.

FG to establish space centre at UNIUYO
Friday, 09 September 2011

The Federal Government is planning to establish a space centre at the University of Uyo, Uyo, to aid marine research.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ita Okon Bassey Ewa, who stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, at the Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, said the university could partner Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, on development of the coastal line and should take advantage of the centre.

Professor Ewa noted that “Akwa Ibom has a coastline that requires continuous monitoring and research. The state is rich in mineral resources and marine products and there is the need to establish such a centre here.”

He hinted that Nigeria had a coastline to monitor the space and had recently launched Satellites 2 and X in Russia which was in orbit to assist Nigeria in agriculture and regional planning with an advantage of 2.5 photo-chromatic view.

“We took a team of engineers to Russia and launched the two satellites. As a result of the feat of President Goodluck Jonathan within his first 100 days, Nigeria is able to rub shoulders with United States of America,” the minister pointed out.

He advised the governor to relocate incubation centre in the state Ministry of Science and Technology due to expensive nature of the project, stressing the need to establish Institute of Technology and a cluster of parastatals to assist in the empowerment of the people.

instead of them to be ashamed that we had to use foreign trained Nigerians with foreign help. No University in Nigeria can churn out graduates with the skillset to do this standalone and the minister for Science and tech is beating his chest with pride?

Sadly, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for us. Not after GEJ told the entire nation during his debate that the only great problem Nigerian Universities (and students) face is a 'lack of accommodation'.

There is NO evidence linking Buhari to Boko Haram.
There is NO single hard fact to support the constant allegation that Buhari is a 'religious bigot'.

Ergo, the people that make these constant accusations are deep in the throes of imbecility!

Who told you that data is accurate?
It is not 100% accurate. In your opinion, which is better - 0% or 80%?

It is far more likely that kidnappers and armed robbers will be able to trace their victims-to-be by merely copying down their license numbers, running the plate numbers through their cronies that work with the database and then pay the unsuspecting victims a visit.

As far as i'm concerned, the GEJ administration deserves knocks for security data management (Wait, don't call me a hater just yet!)
we have a very rich database of over 65 million Nigerians and their fingerprints, house addresses, photographs and biodata from the last elections. Why has no one thought to use this data?

Use of this data can cut down cases of armed robbery and kidnapping to a much reduced level, especially since we all know that a huge number of these miscreants registered for the elections so they could help to rig.

remark D:
Fork adict, for each of those highlighted "achievements" to which you had a response for each, i'd have liked to see your suggestion as well. What would you have done differently, i really would like to know, thanks.
This is the usual choice of attack of the unintelligent when they lack the wit to respond logically to critique.
The ordinary man on the street who pays his taxes has the right to question his leaders on their mediocrity. Fork addict is not the President, GEJ is.
Fork addict did not sweep into power on grand promises, GEJ did.

Fork addict has laid down his opinion on why he feels the President is not performing. Either come up with a rebuttal or STFU.
