Only in Nigeria would people carry what has not been done or even officially promised as a news headline. A 'highly placed source' cannot be used to justify front page headlines, sorry. Until it's officially done, it's a brainless thing to do to start singing someone's praises. |
buzugee:Don't be silly. $160 isn't N16000. Since when was $1 = 100 Naira? Also, it's patently false to say the 'western world' pays the equivalent of N1000 a month. Which carrier in the UK and US will give you broadband HSDPA for $7? Name them. While our internet costs ARE high in Nigeria, you're being unneccesarily alarmist. MTN's 5GB 3G data plan is 8K a month, Glo is 7K for 6GB. You can even get somewhat cheaper tranches for less cash. |
Also, this quote exists in the Guardian link Coming under CBN’s 2011 capital projectsSo my question is, what exactly is 'CBN's capital projects'? Are 'Capital projects' something new under Sanusi and what is the scope of the 'capital projects'? What other capital projects are there in the 2011 portfolio? These are the questions that need to be asked. I'd appreciate answers. |
Abeg let someone provide a link from any paper other than the Ibru owned Guardian newspapers. Please forgive me for taking any Sanusi related news from the Guardian with a pinch of salt. Thank you. |
Johndoe100:So anyone named aisha must be Muslim abi? Dunce! |
This was written by a good friend and I think it should stimulate our leaders into serious thought about the future of this country and the future of our youth. We have been a reactive country for far too long. We need pro-active solutions! |
http://dailytimes.com.ng/blog/coming-storm The coming storm BLOG | MAY 17, 2011 - 1:32AM | BY CHXTA On Wednesday, May 11, the News Agency of Nigeria ran a story about the numbers of students registered for this year's National Common Entrance Examination. The NCEE, for those who may not know, is the examination into Federal Government Colleges (Unity Schools) across Nigeria. According to the news agency, a total of 62,682 pupils had registered to sit for the examination. Considering the fact that this examination is meant for pupils in the 9-11 age bracket, the first question that came to my mind was whether we have just 62, 682 children of that age in Nigeria. When you think of the fact that 70% of our 150 million-population is under the age of 30, then that figure of 62, 682 becomes utterly ridiculous. Assume that there is an equal distribution of citizens in each year of life, then we should be expecting to see upwards of 10 million souls registering for the NCEE; not a paltry 0.6% of that figure. As is usual with these little dramas, the devil is in the detail. According to the CEO of the National Examination Council, Prof. Promise Okpala, 16050 of the 62682 registrants are in Lagos State, Kebbi has 83 registrants, and Yobe has 74! So where are all the 9-11 year olds in both Kebbi and Yobe states? And how come Lagos alone has 26% of all the registrants? The last time I checked, our own official figures give Lagos 6% of our total population. What this tells me is that education all over the rest of Nigeria, not just in the North, is shutting down. The potential impact of this is incredibly horrifying. Consider that the post-election violence in Northern Nigeria was orchestrated by a small, but influential, and educated elite who use the large numbers of uneducated boys milling aimlessly around as a weapon, then you realise just how bad things will become if we continue at this rate. The signs are already there: Northern Nigeria is shutting down, and a lot of its citizens are voting with their feet and moving down South in search of greener pastures. This movement will lead to more communal conflicts, of the kind we have seen with increasing frequency in the Middle Belt. The scariest part of the whole drama being played out is what will happen if, as these indicators point to, Southern Nigeria decides to go the way of the North and stops educating its young, or worse, gives them poor education. The potential (and catastrophic) effects are better imagined. |
chibest5:Haba, must you expose your ignorance in public like this? Do you have any idea how much well preserved classics like this can fetch? |
Ijogz K:1. Torch 2 and Bold 9900 are not out 2. Save the money instead and buy a copy of Brighter Grammar. |
belushi7:No Nigerian carrier carries the iPhone officially. The moment MTN et al start offering the iPhone, the AppStore will become available. But that's a strange idea though cos the iPod touch and iPad can run all those apps and they aren't tied to contracts. |
ADEBOSUN:try affordables. Call bayo on 08023458077 |
So nobody here's excited about the Google reveals at the I/O keynote? And you call yourselves Android fans. *smh* |
Is this apart from the supposed life insurance scheme from INEC? |
You worthless imbecilic toad! To kill a few Americans, Bin Laden killed over 300 Kenyans and Ugandans in the 1998 embassy bombings. Your fellow black people! Any black african who does not hate Bin laden is a dolt! |
naijaking1:That's exactly what this suit wants to do. The voter turnout in my PU in Rivers state was 45%. I've seen similar figures from at least 4 other PUs in Rivers state. Any final result with a 70+% turnout has to be heavily cooked up. More recently, in Imo state where the Governorship election was keenly contested, the turnout hovered around 50%. Yet the turnout in the Presidential elections miraculously came to 83%. Rigging par excellence! I still think GEJ would have won even without all the SS and SE rigfest. If there's a rerun election, Buhari will even fare far worse thanks to his reputation taking a hit after the post-election violence. I see no reason for the court case at all. But still, it is self deceit to claim that the votes from the SS and SE were not massively inflated. |
As the topic says. I just got a 16Gb PlayBook and it's a wonderful gadget, but i'm more inclined to the Apple side. I'll swap this with an iPad 2 so if anyone is game, i'm ready. Please mail me on priyeandroid@googlemail.com |
otumfour:quit being a fanboy. The best OS is the one with the best features and UI, not the one with the larger marketshare. The future has been bright for Android since late 2009 , further cemented when the Nexus One/Desire came out. Android is here to stay and that's a darn good thing. |
opribo:I stopped reading when you said 'he has only one branch'. Is that how ministers are ranked these days? |
Is hypocrisy now part of modern day Christianity? The same people that are unhappy that these illiterate Almajiris dismiss them as 'infidels' are now the ones using words like 'heathen' and 'unbeliever'. |
BP:Then you haven't been following my posts on Nairaland. I always concede to Logic that i see as superior to mine. Changing my opinion and stance on things is not a problem for me. For example I castigated Bakare for Joining politics. Now I defend him I used to be pro-GEJ up until late last year then his poor displays turned me off I once used to post in support of Dora Akunyili. Now I despise this greedy, scheming, two-faced woman. In January I was fervently in support of Jega. After his inconsistent and wasteful display, i'm merely lukewarm on this fellow (Still an improvement over Iwu that I hated!) There are lots more cases too. The fact that you're lionizing people like Beaf and Odunnu tells me this is mainly about the recent Presidential elections. If so, my stance still remains that with the exception of a few isolated cases, the PDP is a scourge on Nigeria ![]() I have a rewarding family and work life outside Nairaland so I NEVER take anything personal. |
alex101:I'm not Yoruba, you half-wit! |
Konjour:This is why we were pushing for CHANGE in the way things are done at the Federal level. That was the CHANGE Bakare represented. The terrain of modern day Christianity is even as challenging as all that you described here. Yet you freely admit that there are 'Men of God' in Nigeria. Unless the good men become involved in politics and bring their goodness to bear on the darkness, we will see no progress. |
Are you on crack? The HD2 is 2 years old and runs the ancient Windows Mobile OS. It has since been replaced by better Android phones. Nobody will buy it for even 70k sef. |
Pataki:The dolt has not dared show face here again. I wish fervently that I could fasten my hands around his throat and change his destiny for him ![]() |
Dellmor:So by your logic, GEJ was unequally yoked with Yar'Adua and is now unequally yoked with Sambo. Also, I consider someone like Tony Anenih to be more of an 'unbeliever' than Buhari. So how do you feel about GEJ now considering the influence the likes of Anenih had on him? |
alex101:Well, since you people keep telling us on Nairaland that your tribe makes up 60% of lagosians, guess which tribe is statistically more likely to have done the horrible deed (according to your logic)? Anyway, I agree with SEFAGO. A 9 year old is dead and people are here using it to score cheap points. That's distasteful. |
juliebest:The troubling thing is that this one will have children and spread the stoopid gene to a whole new generation of Nigerians. We're finished. |
@ ADEBOSUN and others HTC WILDFIRE is your best bet for dat budget, its d mini of HTC DESIRE, it has everything u can found in desire but d speed and d screen resolution, its a nice gadget to have and amply supported wit custom roms. My wife has one and she has abandoned her laptop!
good recommendation. if he doesn't mind a used phone, he can probably snag a clean nexus one/desire for 40k. much better than the wildfire. |
bossinie:May God punish you and your like minded cohorts! 'Speak into his destiny' my foot. You sound like one of these Native doctors. Are you God? Please show me where you came on Nairaland to comment when 'Men of God' were inciting their followers to kill and maim children in Akwa Ibom all in the name of witchcraft before I take you seriously as a Christian. |
jaephoenix:What was he supposed to say? Is he the President of Nigeria? You say Nigerians are daft. Yet you voted for a President who kept quiet when 300 people were killed in Jos in january this year, who said nothing when even more were butchered in late 2010. You voted for a man who was quick to exonerate his tribe from the October 1st bombing even when all preliminary evidence pointed to MEND. Even when several Governments confirmed that the Nigerian govt had been pre-warned about the Oct 1st bombing, you still voted for your man even when he failed to prevent it or act decisively on the information. yes, millions of Nigerians are daft and you are a shining example of the worst of them all. |
otumfour:The thread topic is 'Android, anyone' and not 'Android owners club'. Hope that helps you put things in perspective. It would also help if you were actually sharing ideas here in this topic instead of spamming with youtube vids and bragging about your near-obsolete Galaxy S. I ain't mad at ya though ![]() |
ceejayclas:Those figures above show an apprx. 50% turnout of registered voters in this election. meanwhile in the presidential elections, they told us that 83% of Imo registered voters came out to vote for GEJ. I wonder when we will move past mindless rigging in Nigeria. PS: Congrats to Rochas Okorocha. I've always despised that Ohakim fellow for being an incompetent bully. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I've heard tales of Igbos in markets in far away Lagos doing their victory dance. Shows you how much this lout was hated. |
