PapaBrowne:So you're telling the whole world now that there are NO unemployed graduates from the Niger Delta who have never taken up arms against their own country? There are hundreds of thousands out there, man! These people are more deserving of foreign vocational training that these 'reformed' criminals. |
Before we get side-tracked here, It's pertinent to note that there's no guarantee that the driver is not mentally unstable. For those saying he had to be normal to drive the car, please remember the taxi driver in the UK that opened fire on his colleagues last year, killing 12 of them and wounding 25 with a shotgun. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2010/06/02/uk-cumbria-shooting.html This man was thought to be normal and several of those killed would have thought themselves to be his friend. A man raises an alarm that theives are about to steal his taxi. In many villages around Nigeria, the response would have been the same: brutal, painful death. Just last week (May 16th) 4 robbers were burnt to death in EBONYI STATE http://www.nigeriadailynews.com/news/17569-four-robbers-burnt-to-death-in-ebonyi.html Nowhere in the news article did it say that the angry Abakaliki residents stopped to ask the suspects their profession before setting them ablaze. The guilty party in this case is the taxi driver. His mental state should be checked by a competent psychiatrist and if sane, he should be tried for attempted murder. If insane, he should be committed. No one is saying that what happened to those 3 boys should be swept under the rug but to pass this off as part of a continuous, orchestrated campaign against Corps members is a stretch. This is my argument and I really would love to see a logical rebuttal of my points instead of these childish insults I've been subjected to. |
jcgodfrey:Believe me, boy, we are miles apart in intellect. Go and pick on someone in the same low IQ class as yourself. PS: It grates on my nerves when someone uses 'am' instead of 'I'm'. You kids do that all the time these days. While you're typing up your next infantile outburst could you stop doing that? |
jcgodfrey:Please feel free to 'murder' me. If you have nothing intelligent to say kindly STFU. 'Y'all Northerners'? LOL! So anyone who doesn't fall in line with your mob mentality is now a Northerner abi? I can try to spur you people into thinking but I cannot force you into using your brains. jcgodfrey:Re-read the initial post when you're sober. You will understand! It also helps if you have an IQ over 20. |
jcgodfrey:Insults on Nairaland don't faze me, I recognize them to be the weapon of choice for people who do not have the IQ to put together a logical rebuttal to my points. FYI, I served in Abia state in 2004. Funny enough, as at that time it was open knowledge that Corps members in the North were treated with the most respect than anywhere else in Nigeria. Certainly not in Abia state where Corps members were seen by the populace as naive people who could be shamelessly exploited for personal gain. Come back when you really have something intelligent to contribute. |
just2nice:So let me get this clear. If someone is burnt in Aba for alleged theft, it automatically means Aba is no longer peaceful? You admit none of your friends were wearing any NYSC uniform. So why are you trying to sell this to us as an attack on Corps Members? All i see here is Irate villagers trying to attack and kill people they suspected to be thieves. This will happen (and has happened!) in many places all over Nigeria. Jungle justice is to be condemned strongly, but this is not a northern phenomenon. Understand, i'm only speaking the truth as i see it, i know some dolt is gonna flame me soon for being a 'northern apologist' but there's no other logical interpretation to this. Ask your friends to head to notify NYSC of their intentions to press charges against the Police and the driver. That is the proper thing to do. I find it hard to believe that a Policeman would strip and handcuff a corper who produced his ID card so if that truly happened, feel free to make a complaint against the police. |
Efehiaea:Here's some common sense for you; 1. Katsina is not Jigawa 2. Not everyone who is a Northern muslim thinks exactly the same. Just because someone got away with 5 strokes of the cane doesn't mean that in EVERY village in the North they'd get away lightly. You will most certainly be burnt to death if you steal in some markets in Lagos and Aba. I doubt you'd be burnt if you stole in Benin's Oba market. What even makes your contribution more surprising is that we all know of mallam jangedi whose arm was amputated on orders of a Sharia court for stealing cows. He is muslim and speaks Hausa fluently. So much for your theory. |
maankind:If you're referring to the attempted murder of alleged thieves by illiterates, i can assure you that this happens in Lagos, Onitsha, Umuahia, Aba or practically every rural setting in Nigeria where someone raises that alarm. As far as i see, there is no concrete evidence that those three people were attacked because they were corps members. There is no concrete evidence to disprove the claims that the driver is mentally unstable. This is Nairaland's mob mentality at work. ![]() |
igbsam:Our?! Please speak for yourself alone. Others do not share this imbecilic point of view. We pay taxes so we deserve to know where our money goes to. When you grow up and start paying taxes, you'll feel the same way. |
There is no credible proof that this was a premeditated attack on CORPS MEMBERS and not on 3 strangers who the villagers took to be thieves. Let us learn to separate our emotions from our ability to employ logical reasoning. In many other cities in the South, you will be lynched to death if someone identifies you as a thief. It happens in Lagos, Benin, Onitsha, Abia etc. Nigerians really need to understand that it isn't only the person chewing grass and eating garbage that has mental problems. When you see outwardly normal people in the western world suddenly snap and start shooting people, what do you think is happening? For all we know the guy really could be mentally unstable. I feel for your friends though. were they wearing their NYSC uniforms? |
Sad fact: In modern day Pentecostalism it is a common thing for the pastor to be more important than Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ could give several parables on Charity and none on tithing, if he could focus on love over offerings, why the hell are you people babbling here about tithes, offerings and sowing seeds? How can you say you expect some of your tithe money to be used for Charity? Where is the hands on, where is the direct love you're expected to show? You people surprise me, i swear! |
I'm not going to beat around the bush. here's a direct question: If Jesus Christ gave several parables about helping the poor, needy, sick and imprisoned and NONE on tithe paying or 'sowing seed', if the Apostles in the New Testament greatly encouraged helping the poor, charitable acts and ministering to the sick, why are you Nigerians far more interested in paying Tithes and 'sowing seeds' than charity and actual acts of love? The Bible's New Covenant is explicit on LOVE being the most important virtue of a Christian and emphatic on charity as a significant requirement for Christians. It is practically silent on tithing. Why are you people misleading yourselves into thinking you're practicing Christianity? Wesley80 says that the most important duty of a Christian is to give money to spread the Gospel and not to show love to your neighbour. What manner of Christians do we have these days? |
edicolove:Nope. It only shows the innate greed burning in the hearts of an untold number of Nigerians! It's worth noting that the ACN has had similar troubles of this nature in Akwa Ibom and Rivers State. People become turncoats when offered lots of money. It's a sad part of life but we're used to it now ![]() |
LeoMax:Apparently you also hate common sense. You must also hurry to patent this your juju/software that enables you to know the ages and professions of contributors on an internet forum. |
Where are these "Yoruba" ethinic bigots that have no conscience? Won't they comment on their cherished, adored, and celebrated silly slowpoke Oba continuing from where uneducated almajiris started in 2009.Cowards!.After sleeping with the wives of his fellow obas,he now want to try his luck on a Youth Corper.Thank God,the prison where his cousin,Bode George left a few months ago is still unoccupied and waiting for him.
Isn't it rather imbecilic to call someone else an 'ethnic bigot' when you yourself are one? |
cameronese:You see curated pictures and video of celebs walking through upscale or at least middle class sections of town and you say all is rosy in America. You think Will Smith will walk with ease through some alleys in Harlem? Poverty is the key driver here, not 'mentality' or nationality. |
PapaBrowne:And to think I used to rank you among the smart ones on Nairaland. Please do not group GEJ in the ranks of Fashola and Duke. All those people have excelled or at least done a memorable job at the state level. What did GEJ do in bayelsa? Many people here don't beef GEJ, we are extremely wary of him and the potentially ruinous effect his PDP will continue to have on Nigeria's fortunes. When you start having kids you'll start caring about the future of Nigeria, trust me. This press release doesn't make sense and in fact is typical of the usual fearmongering levied by our politicians to create drama. In the past 2 months alone former Gov Ladoja, incoming Governor Ibikunle Amosun and even Martins Elechi of Ebonyi state have 'raised alarms' over assassination plots. Each time nothing happens. A benue state Senator raised alarm in March about a plot to frame him in an alleged coup plot. Governor Uduaghan raised alarm over plot to 'hijack' Jonathan. All these alarms are just so much nonsense! If such a plot existed, why are arrests not being made? The allegation accuses a known person of plotting a treasonous action. If this was true, what do you have to say about your Government? |
The economics are not relevant. It is beyond the scope of the CBN. The CBNs job is not to be building hotels. There needs to be separation of powers in government and focus on what they were hired to do.
Ah, now it's clear. You main concern is that it really shouldn't be CBN's role to carry out this sort of activity. I had thought it was concern about the viability of the project that led to your ire. Economics has never been my area of strength so i'll keep out of this argument. Perhaps there's a method to Sanusi's 'madness' though. It would be good if we get more clarity from the CBN about the direction they intend to go with this. As for Sanusi's /CBN's plan to severely restrict the amount of cash you can collect from the bank from next year, i'm definitely not impressed. |
blacklion:Yes. Affordables had it on sale for 75k 2 weeks ago. |
This is a brilliant lecture indeed! We must judge GEJ with the same criteria we must use to judge any other President. We need to care about the Nigeria of our Children, not think about what we can get for ourselves. |
CBN capital projects are not new and could mean anything from upgrading servers and computer/IT backbone to Renovating its CBN buildings in the 36 state capitals. . However the Central Bank going directly into building hotels to achieve the misguided idea of stimulating real estate is madness of the highest order If anything the Finance Ministry should be the one stimulating real estate, through the use of incentives and tax breaks to banks and property buyers and developers. . not the CBN
So you agree that this then is not out of the ordinary if it can fall under the 'Capital projects' portfolio? Also, without seeing the economics of the project how can you unequivocally condemn this as 'madness'? |
AGAIN?! Every so often we have to put up with this r'etarded topic where someone tries to lay a guilt trip on us. I FERVENTLY follow the EPL. It is my right to choose my entertainment after a hard work week. If the OP cannot make out 90 minutes to relax and entertain himself, it says more about his quality of life. The Nigerian premier league should strive to make itself more attractive to viewer and consumers then we will flock to it. it is only in Nigeria where we're expected to happily consume substandard fare all in the name of 'patriotism'. This is imbecilic at best. The Nigerian clubs make little or no effort to improve the standard of their stadiums/pitches, are perfectly happy with cheating refs and have made no solid attempt to rid their stadia of hooligans. Why should going to watch a local match be a risky venture for many people? The TV presentation is even worse. Horrible cameras, shitty camera angles, substandard commentary among other things are a huge turn-off for many people (including myself). So let them up their game up to a standard where people who desire entertainment can properly appreciate it. Until then, after paying huge taxes in return for substandard Govt provided amenities, there's no need to deny myself quality entertainment all in the name of faux 'patriotism'. Laajman:With this your brainless 'logic', that means that anyone watching Discovery channel or National Geographic is simply 'fooling himself'. Afterall, how many of us will ever see a Hippo in real life? |
Dede1:And Ngige can request for forensics to be carried out on her votes. Despite the massive attempts to rig and buy votes by APGA, this harridan still lost. Thank Goodness the people of her state are intelligent enough to be wary of this greedy woman's ambition. |
Folubaba:Are you on crack?!! |
I've used Facetime with my AirTel line too. ![]() Can't see myself video chatting sha. Not just my thing. If I have to, i'd rather go the Skype route. |
shenny:You bought a Desire for 85k just last month? i'm sorry but do you not know how to use the Internet? Buying a 1.5 years old phone for 85k is criminal. I can't see anyone offering anything above 55k for a used Desire. |
kasiem:Give me TWO reasons why you think she was a decent minister. Go on, i dare you! It's like people don't pay taxes these days. If your tax money was wasted by this harridan in an imbecilic, Dead on Arrival 'Rebranding' scheme (that she wasn't even a good ambassador of sef), you'd not be here siding with this jester. |
cap28:If you believe this, you'll believe anything. Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Imphal-Kohima among others, all campaigns in which the US forces routed the Japanese decisively. A mainland invasion would have been bloody and costly, but by no means an insurmountable task. In terms of manpower, equipment and supplies, the US was clearly ahead. Abeg go and read history books first before commenting. PS: The atomic bomb had been tested before in the New Mexico desert. They knew very well its destructive power and its capability to produce deadly radiation. |
nwa afo:No madam. You gave up your ministerial job and decamped from PDP to APGA! That certainly smacks of desperation. You will not be able to milk your NAFDAC rep forever. Since then, you've been an incompetent minister and a snivelling, scheming wastrel. Happily enough, many other Nigerians are beginning to see this. smh at former heroes who turn into villains just for money and power. |
buzugee:In which universe did $7 become 6 pounds? Also, at an exchange rate of 1 pound = 250 Naira, explain how 6 pounds = N1000. |
Blackteeth:*sigh* |
T9ksy:This is not stale news and cynics like yourself are only helping to drag Nigeria further backward. The Common Entrance figures were released just recently and it paints a gloomy picture on the 9-11 demographic. It's almost as if the entire editorial was lost on you. This is about a whole new generation of kids being allowed to slide slowly into the abyss of street life and easy manipulation. We have a president in the centre and a National assembly to enact laws. Will we continue to cross our arms and mumble about 'Northern Elite'? We need a 'state of emergency' in Northern education. We need to break this vicious circle at this stage while the kids are still relatively free from all the negative influences. This is when we need proactive investigation and decisive steps to supervise and encourage the education of these kids. In any normal country, these figures will trigger off serious soul-searching and a concerted effort to fix this issue. In Nigeria all we have are cynical people and reactive governments. Rubbish. |
