@ denzel2009 bsd and linux hold more of the critical server market than windows. The mac has the same exact ip stack and server combination as BSD.
He's clearly referring to the consumer market. That's the target for most virus writers. |
fyneguy:*sigh* are you really that daft that you failed to comprehend what I said earlier? |
fyneguy:Why exactly are you posting a link to an article on a site you've told us is affiliated with CommandClem? |
@texazzpete To be honest with you, I don't see any untruth in what I said. The battery is in fact user replaceable. Just because Apple said it wasn't and offers a 'battery replacement service', doesn't mean it's not user replaceable. If you know how to use a screwdriver you can replace the battery yourself. Granted it will void the warranty. But that is a moot point, since they replace the battery for free if it's under warranty.
When people refer to the batteries of the Macbook Pro and the iPhone as not being 'user replaceable', they usually mean you can't swap it out for another one in a jiffy. Lots of people carry extra batteries around for their notebooks. Not me, but some people do. Yes, the Macbook Pro line usually has very good battery life (thanks to Apple using mediocre GPUs) but under heavy strain it WILL run down fast. Especially under Windows. Would you call the iPhone 4's battery user-replaceable? It's easier to open the iPhone 4 than any other previous iPhone, but it's not practical to unscrew your phone on the go just to change out your battery with a fresh one.
And yes I know you need an adapter to output mini displayport to hdmi, but you'd be silly to purchase it from Apple. Mini Displayport to HDMI cables can be found for less than $10 with shipping. Yes HDMI is a more popular standard, but there are quite a few advantages of Displayport over traditional HDMI including the fact that DP is based off of an open standard. The reason why Apple's macbook monitor is so thin is because it uses displayport, which eliminates the need for extra circuitry in the display, and allows for a smaller package. Also you can get male DP to male HDMI cables, so you don't necessarily need an adapter. Apple does try to suck every penny out of it's loyal customers. I won't disagree there, but you don't have to play into their hands.
Nobody cares or needs to know if mini Displayport is based off an open standard. I struggle to understand why this is important to you. The average consumer just wants to plug in his laptop to his TV with minimum fuss. End of story. Using a regular HDMI cable will not add any meaningful heft to the Macbook pro. Many ultra-thin laptops come with HDMI standard. Apple just made that decision for their customers, that's all. Yes, i know how to get cheap cables from Monoprice, thank you, but most of the average joes out there do not, and they default to buying from Apple. Lots of profit to be made, eh? Only two USB ports in 2010 in a 15 inch laptop is just plain stupid, and the MAcbook design IS flawed as a result of this. The idiots naturally put the ports close together so most USB devices plugged in one port will block the other. That's nonsense. |
I can't believe this post has gone unchecked until now. What in heavens are you talking about? The unibody Macbook has almost all those things you mentioned. The Macbook (Pro & non-Pro) have an optical drive, card reader, replaceable RAM and battery, and a mini displayport which is essentially the same signal as hdmi in a more compact package. Hardly any laptop comes with upgradeable LAN card. That is usually embedded into the system board. You can always get an add-on Usb network card if you want, but why the hell would you need that anyway? Certainly you wouldn't be silly enough to compare the iPad, or even the Macbook Air to a full-fledged laptop. Those devices were designed to be super-mobile. The Macbook Air is 0 .4 - 2cm thick. One of the thinnest laptops ever made. It doesn't have an optical drive like most netbooks. But it does have replaceable RAM and battery. Hate to sound smug, but judging by the posts of some of the Naija based folks here, it seems Nigerians are not familiar enough with Mac platform (OS and hardware) to carry on an intelligent MAC vs PC debate. Some people are just posting hearsay and gists not having the slightest clue as to what they are talking about. PS: Moderators, please un-ban my original account dtw_sola. It marked me as a spammer and banned me when I tried to modify my original post in this thread. And please fix your forum. It seems to very buggy at the moment. All sorts of weird happenings.
You really shouldn't criticize others when you're guilty of the same thing. Since when did the Macbook Pro have a user replaceable battery? Your comments on the mini-displayport are rather naive. full HDMI ports are far more prevalent than their mini-displayport counterparts, meaning most people will have to grab an adaptor to output to HDMI. Naturally, Apple sells one on their website for an eye-gouging sum. Funny you think many of us are not familiar with the hardware or OS. I'm the one that has to explain to my colleagues at least once a month that i cannot hook up my laptop to the office projector. At least not without paying for an Adaptor from Apple. Rubbish. |
This Mac vs PC bullcrap argument. I own a Macbook pro, and the build quality is awesome, but i'm stunned some people here are trumpeting about the hardware specs of the Macbook pro. Really? Only 2 USB ports, no BluRay option, generally slower processors, mid-range GPUs, no HDMI, very few expansion ports, no VGA connector for projectors I got the Macbook just for the option of triple booting all the three major OS tranches (OS X, Windows 7, Ubuntu). That's all there is to it. OS X vs Windows is subjective. Once you get all that elitist crap out of your head, Windows 7 is every bit as good as OS X. Install a decent Antivirus software and use your common sense and you won't have to worry about viruses. As for buying a MacBook Pro in Nigeria, you'd have to be savvy. Vendors like ishopA.com are stupidly expensive, caught up in the elitist idea that since only 'Big men' buy Apple, therefore market the Apple laptops at outrageous prices. And that's just lame. At the end of the day, it's best to buy whatever suits you. Windows, Ubuntu, OS X all get the job done. Plus you can configure a far more powerful laptop for a fraction of the price of a MAcbook pro. And you won't need to buy adapters just to use a projector or to connect your laptop via HDMI. Plus you won't need to lug around a USB hub just to use your MTN modem and a wired mouse at the same time. |
Very nice letter. I actually was hoping to see what kind of fervour this would inspire in the comments, only to see whatever effect the guy was aiming for ruined by these tribal bigots. |

Mobinga:Mobinga, Don't feed the troll. |
The term 'Katyusha' isn't Iranian in origin. it's Russian. But it's clear that 107mm artillery rockets aren't meant for election era violence. I think what MEND or Boko Haram would be more interested in at this point are SAMs or Stinger Anti-aircraft missiles to take out Nigerian choppers. |
fyneguy:So the onus is now on Mobil to deny the documents, eh? Why is it suddenly an issue for CommandClem to appear on National TV and make their claims, meanwhile the CommandClem website link you gave us tells us in the FAQ that they have petitioned the presidency? Interestingly, the website FAQ claims that the 'inventor' is an honest man who can be trusted absolutely. Please explain why this so-called honest man is claiming that his paint is the only one that allows for oil production offshore. Also, while he is liberally referred to as a 'Professor' on the website. Pray, tell us, where and when did he become a Professor? Nsiman and his cohorts have claimed that the man had been granted an international patent. In all my searches, the only thing i could come across is a patent application dated early 2010! Compare and contrast that with the tall tales of other foreign companies worldwide using his paint! fyneguy:Was that before or after the visit of the 'Top Generals'? ![]() |
lexyman:Of course. Don't i always keep buying from you? Your prices are breaking my heart these days sha ![]() And please don't even mention accessories. I'd have to sell my Camry to be able to afford the price you put on Singstar ![]() |
ritchboy:lol. Blank Blu-Rays are pretty expensive, but yeah, they'll be cheaper than originals. Just bought a 500GB SATA Hard disk to swap into my PS3. Good times, eh? |
lexyman:Don't worry, i'll still keep buying my games from you. Anyone who can afford your prices can't be a pirate ![]() Pirated PS3 BluRays wont be on the streets for years to come. |
Bawss1:Nah, that's just for the jailbreak features. If you boot it up normally, everything works perfectly. There's no modification to your PS3 at all. |
footreja:I posted a link a while back showing clearly that Mobil and Commandclem had moved the battle on to the Supreme Court. Even these scammers here have posted links that quoted the judge in December 2009 urging both parties to head to the supreme court. Do your research. The so-called 'final judgement' made no attempt to address any payment from Mobil to CommandClem. And there are two issues at stake. Ownership of Patent is one thing. the second is commandclem's claims that they entered into an agreement with Mobil to collect a royalty of $2 per barrel for paint. Instead of asking me these questions, shebi the Mobil chap confirmed that the court documents and ruling is open to all? Let Nsiman et al procure and post a copy of the court ruling and show us where it was decided that there really was a pre-existing contract to pay them $2 per barrel. I find it hard to believe an educated person would accept that someone would agree to pay $2 per barrel for paint way back in 1980, or $10 as Nsiman is now claiming. You've been shown that the documents are fake. You know that the $236 billion is almost 90% of Mobil's market capitalization. You've seen newspaper reports quoting CommandClem's lawyer asking Mobil to pay up $3 billion. You've seen how stable Mobil's share price still remains, even with this enormous payment these scammers would have you believe. Yet in spite of this overwhelming evidence, you can still claim to have doubts about this being a scam? Rubbish. Forget all that bullcrap about publishing a newspaper. You should see the way Nospetco subscribers are weeping and wailing now. People warned them that time, dem no gree hear word. fyneguy:I know this isn't directed at me. But coming from a man who claimed that 'Top Generals' intimidated a Nigerian into signing away an amount of money that would bankrupt Mobil because of paint, i find this rather amusing. |
turion:I used an iPod video. You probably could find a used one for pretty cheap. Also the older Nanos and Minis work just fine. spacewily:Cons: You've got to remain on firmware 3.41 for now, so no online gaming. Also the hack isn't persistent, you'll have to plug the device into your PS3 every time you reboot. But that's it. |
Lol. Wedding was last year. My first anniversary comes up next month. Naturally, wifey hates the PS3. She doesn't like seeing her husband crouched in front of the tv with his friends playing Pro Evo Soccer and bating loudly after scoring a goal. I had to buy her Wii Fit just to make her happy. In fact, i recommend Wii fit for all you married folks to keep the miss us happy. Or perhaps SingStar on the PS3. |
fyneguy:Just the same way you don't need any official notification before you realize that the mail from 'Abacha's widow' promising you $20 million is a scam, do you really need Mobil to comment on an obviously fake document? Even when presented with the plain fact that that is not even mobil's letterhead, or the unassailable logic that there's no earthly way Mobil would fork out a sum guaranteed to destroy them, you're still hinging your argument on a radio advert? You're too silly to notice that it's now becoming clear to everyone that you're in cahoots with the scammers here. In the early stages you could have gotten away with just being another victim of this scam, but you're way too smart for that. You're in on this scam, and i hope one day scammers like you get a taste of your own medicine. Karma's a mean lady, bro. |
Mobinga:And i got my ID back. i'll put up a guide, modify my second post with it. Good times, eh? |
ElRazur:Just for the record, my PS3 has never been online. Neither has my Xbox 360. I'm too busy to miss that. However, i am on firmware 3.41. Sony's latest firmware is 3.50, which adds only 3d Bluray playback. On my Jailbroken PS3, i can play EVERY game released on the PS3 to date, including Medal of Honor (Sony tried to prevent this from playing on lower firmware, easily circumvented). On the plus side, i'll have Linux running soon. Perhaps an optimized version of XBMC. Emulators for Dreamcast, PS2, PS1 and SNES are in the works. Fair trade. |
ElRazur:Fool, eh? I've had my PS3 since December 2006 and i've put in a fortune in buying games that i haven't even got time to play. MGS 4, Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted 2, GTA 4, Guitar Hero 3, Fight Night 3, Burnout among many others have not been finished. I never even put the MGS 4 into my PS3 one day. I got God of War 3, played it on and off and haven't finished it yet. Most of those games are now missing. I cannot remember who i gave the GTA 4 and MGS 4 to. Someone took my Street Fighter 4. Fight Night is missing. Burnout is broken - someone sat on it. If i have a way to backup my discs so i don't lose them when i have a chance to play them, damn sure i'll do that. I buy all my games. And last i checked, there are no pirated copies of PS3 games floating around Nigeria. PS 3 games weigh in at tens of Gigabytes. Why would downloading games be an option for me when i can easily buy any game i want? Jailbreaking your PS3 is much more than Pirated gaming. You need to try and broaden your horizon here. Way before sony banned otherOS, i was rocking Ubuntu on my PS3 in 2008, running a beta version of SNES9X. There are loads of exciting homebrew apps on the horizon, and i aim to get in on that. Why abuse me just because you have a limited imagination? What i choose to do with the game after i copy it is my business, thank you. I could give it out, or i could sell it. There's a used game market out there, isn't there? As Bawss said, i'm not starving to start thinking of selling games for a living. Stop being a lamer. My response to your insults is rather restrained (unusual for me) because i know you to be one of the more intelligent Nairalanders. But stop being so darned self-righteous here. Also you may want to check out the recent ruling on DMCA in the US. Jailbreaking is legal. Do you also go around giving your friends with jailbroken iPhones a hard time? |
egift: Nsiman:Brilliant. You really shouldn't have posted that link. You have been blabbing here that Commandclem won a 'final victory' in December last year. now it's made clear that the case has been progressed to the Supreme Court for judgement, and that the ruling in December last year did not discuss any financial issue. Secondly, that link confirms that the CommandClem lead counsel is Tony Ukam. The same Tony Ukam was quoted in March 2010 asking for approx $3 billion from Mobil. From whence comes the hundreds of billions of dollars you fraudsters have been claiming? The only thing worse than petty thieves is petty thieves that lack any form of sophistication or subtlety. |
Bawss1:Yep. Just copy the game to the HDD and sell it off ![]() My 60GB PS3 HDD filled up in no time. I'm going to buy a 320 GB SATA HDD today and swap it out with the 60GB in the PS3. Then the fun will begin ![]() |
see people talking about 'apps' and 'gaming' and mentioning nokia! Abeg @OP, go and buy any of the reasonably powerful android phones out there and leave the declining Symbian brand. |
I used an iPod video, but the following devices are also supported using this Rockbox approach iPod Mini 1G iPod Mini 2G iPod 4G Grayscale iPod 4G Color\Photo iPod Nano 1G iPod Video 5G\5.5G |
Using the tutorial found here http://www.ps3hax.net/showpost.php?p=119661&postcount=221 And an iPod video (5G), i was able to carry out the PS3 Jailbreak and commenced ripping some games to my HDD ![]() Photo proof attached below

Nsiman:As expected, none of those links work. |
zubeyr:So marrying off 9 year old girls to 60 year old men is in accordance with their will abi? |
oyb:There are working softmods, no modchip needed ![]() |
frosbel:You mean the only comment you agree with. You people are the ones making Nigeria an international joke! Instead of fixing your country you're here preaching of outrage and indignation. If you feel so strongly about this stigma, please go to Lagos cybercafes and throw out all the scammers you see there! or go picket MTN, Starcomms et al until they install better scam filters on their networks. |
The One:Please tell Nsiman and his fellow criminal Fyneguy! I couldn't help laughing when i saw these fellows add oil production in barrels to Gas in scf. Someone posted production figures of oil using three methods: instantaneous/daily rate, monthly average and a Year-to-date average and these muppets added them up! |
