Yes there is legislation protecting everyone. Anyone can access any restaurant without been barred on account of their race.

A person who says he is against black or Jew is free to do so in Canada so long as his business doesn't hold any barrier against black or Jews. If he put a "No black or Jews allowed" sign at his store, his business will pay a huge fine and can be closed.

Yes they would be shutdown . You cannot operate outside of the Canadian charter of rights and freedom. You cannot segregate who can enter a public place A licence to run a restaurant is a licence to run a public services/ accommodation and operates on a public licence. You can kick people out, but if it is based on race and this can be proven that you segregate based on race, you will be shutdown within hours of media coverage like this journalist did. In these days of political correctness, the restaurant would be shutdown ASAP. Canada has a legislation that prohibits discrimination based on race. However, most African countries don't have such legislation. I guess this is where the problem is. I am afraid to think that Those chinese in Lagos didn't break any Nigerian law.

I have raised the issue a number of times on this thread. People who are intending to live and work in Canada should educate themselves on what is and what isn't racism. All the information can be found on the Canadian Human Rights commission and and each provincial Human Rights Commission website.

Usually what many people perceive as racism isn't necessarily racism. Conversely, people may face racism or discrimination without knowing they are being discriminated because they ignore the law.

Racism is a very complex subject. Thus, the importance of getting familiar with the rules and regulations of their provincial labor board as well as the provincial Human Rights law. All the informations are available online.

For someone to be the only black employee on his team, if his/her manager doesnt like him/her, this doesn't necessarily mean the manager is racist. The manager may not like the black employee because of his personality and not because of the color of his skin.

In Canada if you are a landlord or business owner or employer and you have a building with no elevator (but only stairs) , this will be taken as discrimination against people using wheelchairs or with physical disability. Therefore, I don't think there is a building in Canada with no elevator . All the landlords, employers and business owners are required to accommodate people with physical disability

That reminds me of one of my trips to South Africa.
I was taking a KLM flight from Johannesburg back to Toronto via Amsterdam.

We were seating in the waiting area to board the aircraft and I realized I was the only black person.
It was time to board the aircraft and we were on the line to hand out our boarding pass.

After handing my boarding pass, I was on my way to enter the aircraft. However, there was a white South African agent standing and watching the passengers entering the aircraft.

When he saw me, he wanted to see my passport. Something I didn't see him ask any of the other white travellers before me.

No way, I was upset. I ask him, " Why only me? Why you didn't ask any of the other travellers for their passports?". In my mind this was a clear case of racial profiling. So, I needed an explanation.

In a very calm and friendly manner, the white man explained to me that all the other travellers have the European Union passport. He said he could tell a European Union passport from a distance. And travellers with EU passports didn't need visas to go to Amsterdam. Given that my passport had a different color from everyone else's, he wanted to ensure I was authorized to travel to Amsterdam.

After showing him my Canadian passport, he said "Thank you for your co-operation and have a safe trip"

It wasn't the color of my skin as I originally thought
