Please I am thinking of relocating from Nigeria to Canada for greener pastures. Can anyone help with the process.
mynaija123:
1.How much will you take

2.Can I be able to declare for asylum with the visa?

3.Please note am no paying a dime until the visa is out

4. I will give you proof that I have your money

In regard with the bolded, Yes, you can apply for asylum even with a visa. But as indicated by @ einsteino, is it a legitimate or bogus asylum claim? Please be advised that the asylum process used to be a walk in the park in the 90's but it has been getting more and more difficult ever since. You can still be denied asylum even with a case that has been found to be legitimate by the Refugee Board.

Your asylum application will land at the IRB (Immigration and Refugee Board) and you will be called for a hearing. During this hearing, you will face a panel or a board of 1 to 6 members who will cross-examine you. You will basically have to walk them through all the details of your life. Their goal will be to find any hole in your asylum claim. Sometimes, they will ask you the same question multiple time in different ways. And what you will tell them during the hearing shouldn't contradict anything in your visa application nor the refugee application. Your story should also be in alignment with the documentation that the government of Canada has with respect to life in Nigeria. IN addition to that, they will be examining your demeanor as you answer each question.

One of the challenges you will face at the Refugee board is called Internal Flight. This is a part where you have to convince the members of the Refugee Board why you choose to come to Canada instead of taking refuge in a different part of Nigeria. Nigeria is a country of 200 millions people, that means you could easily disapear in the crowd from the person who is after your life. Wasn't any part of Nigeria viable to you?

The hearing at the IRB can take anywhere from 2 hours to months and in some cases even years. So, imagine that your case has been denied and after that you have failed all the appeals process and then after that you end up by been asked to leave Canada 7 to 10 years after living here as an asylum seeker. What a waste of time.

In short, the asylum in Canada can be much more complicated than most of people would think. Even if you case is legitimate, you may still be denied refugee status on the ground that your case doesn't fit the definition of refugee as per the 1951 UN Refugee Convention.More disturbing is the fact that you may end up in a detention center.

Applying for asylum can be a very rough road to take.

The following link is a tragic story of Nigerian asylum seeker who get deported from Canada 13 years after living here. He died in the process of deportation:

Hello all. Leaving tomorrow for a three week soft landing.
I initially packed winter jackets for I and my son (as I heard that canada is a freezing country) but I checked the weather forecast for missisuaga, ontario for two weeks and i'm now second guessing.
Do I really need to bring those winter jackets along tomorrow?
It is still warm in Southern Ontario
If you will be returning to Nigeria before November, there is no need for those winter Jackets.

The Freezing cold temperatures in southern Ontario are recorded between December and beginning of March

No sir.... Schooled there for some 6, 7 years in the 60's into the very early 70's right before I was born (almost giving up my details there now though), and actually came back home with wifey, and two kids born in the UK. They literally fought with everything to get back in the UK in the 90's because they never went back there for over two decades and almost lost trace of pointers to claiming citizenship, wasn't smooth at all compared to what the process is today.
I assume they are in the UK now, right?
Anyway, Africa of the 60s was just as good as South Korea or Canada

If I was you I wouldn't keep chest beating on this place of birth matter or reference it during a visa interview unless asked and rather get an attorney to look at possibility of PR reinstatement of a minor ( if your attorney is smart in this country there is always a lacuna that can be taken advantage of grin grin )

if this pulls through you can keep it and still be shuttling both countries while living in naija(do with sense) I did this for many years untill . . .

Also if you have not been back to the states since you got back when you were 2 years old. It will be pretty interesting to see how the dice goes. Like someone said a 50-50, I would say depending on the VO it may either be a long interview or a straight up ineligibility based off some interesting "proof of ties" index or checklist they run on cheesy

Best of luck and be smart
The funny part is that if he enters the US he can freely lives as a US Citizen if he wants to. A birth certificate is all it takes to prove your US citizenship. There are loophole in the system that makes it possible for any child born in the US to get a US passport.
In his case, he was unfortunate to fall in the hands of the State Department through the embassy who did a thorough search. The States Department is the only agency that has record of who works as diplomat in the US and when. No other goverment agency in the US has record of the diplomats in the US.

But he's not arguing with you na. He's only saying he's America born, dazzol! Surely he can't be conferred citizenship on that ground because of the pecularity of his case. I can't even understand how his parents, and our parents, just let the US and the UK go like that, no visits, nothing. Diplomats for that matter oh!

Our parents of old sha. Well, Nigeria was very good for them then sha.

Thank you very much, your information has been helpful. Have mailed them and will communicate Sule after a while.
Pls do you have an idea if the FRSC letter and temporary licence is accepted for the test in Regina, SK?
I have no idea about Regina, Sk. I am an Ontarian .
Let hope that vcole or anyone in SK will be able to assist with your request.

Please be advised that we were told at the DriveTest Center that the FRSC letter is only good for 6 months from the day it was issued.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by TheCongo2:
Ifywhyteman:
Goodday to you all my Canny seniors, please I have some questions to ask;

Please how are you guys getting the authentication letter I am hearing about from FRSC. Can one get it in Lagos. FRSC guys here in Anambra are claiming ignorance of the existence or issuance of such a letter.
Have also heard people mention the international driver's licence, where does one get that one and what is the procedure?

Secondly, for our seniors based in Regina, is the unexpired temporary driver's licence and the recently expired permanent one enough to allow one do the driving test?
Yesterday I took a Nigerian couple to a DriveTest Center to get their Ontario driver's licenses.
The couple had landed in Canada last week and was introduced to me by a Nairaland friend who had also landed last week with his family.

My Nairaland friend has lived in France before and has a French driver's license. Therefore, he was given a full G Ontario license without undergoing any testing. As a result of his G license, he is only paying $165 monthly on his car insurance which is very cheap comparing to what a lot of newcomers are playing.

As for the couple that I took to the DriveTest Center, they had to apply for their G1 Ontario license before moving to G2 or Full G license.
This is where the FRSC letter comes into play. (I will come back with more details about our trip to the DriveTest Center)

To answer your question, according to the Nigerian couple, only the FRSC office in Abuja can issue the FRSC letter. However, you need NOT to travel to Abuja to get the FRSC letter. You can apply for it from anywhere in Nigeria.

To get the FRSC letter, You can follow the following steps that the couple had learned from a Nigerian-Canadian Whatsapp group:

1st step - Send an email with your driver's license details to the FRSC Abuja Office requesting a FRSC letter or driving record.
You are more likely NOT to receive a reply from the FRSC Abuja office.

2nd step- Follow up your email by contacting this Abuja FRSC Employee (Sule - phone number 2348033795031)
Sule will access the FRSC Database and will write for you the FRSC letter.
I was also told that the Service provided by Sule is free of charge . The only money you will send to him is for the shipment of the FRSC letter to you.

Bonne chance

Hi, would a credit report from Nigeria be entertained for the purpose of getting teleco, housing, car, insurance etc services?

I know we have both local and international credit bureaus/companies in Nigeria that could verify one’s credit score such that they are globally recognized. Has anyone actively pursued this to that length?

Cc @hotD @Blackbuddy @Salford1 @thecongo2 @Ballerz @vcole @maternal @fusion23
No. We don't even know or consider credit report from the US ...
If you have good or bad credit in the US and then move to Canada, you will start life afresh. No one will inquire about your credit in the US.
Same as if you move from Canada to the US
The funny part is that both US and Canada use Equifax for consumers credit record

So, to answer your question, your credit report in Nigeria won't help you in Canada

Give BelairDirect a try. I have been using them for car insurance.

They are in Quebec but they sell cars and houses insurance all over Canada.
I find their rates to be reasonable.
Call them and ask them for a quote

Private dealers. I have a friend (indian). Makes around 5k per month doing just that. He sometimes gets scammed once in a while too. I think it's an illegal business as they avoid paying tax on the sales.
Exactly ... I have a co-worker who makes almost the same amount as your friend buying and selling cars on kijiji

Hi guys. Anyone in markham or Newmarket. I hope I am not the only one and please where can one get cheap used car like max of 3k.
Bro, from my personal experience, I don't think it is a good idea to buy a 3k car.
You may end up spending a lot of money for the mechanic each year. The total cost on different repairs can easily navigate between 2K to 5K each year.

Here are couple options I can suggest you.
Most car dealerships offer car financing where anyone is most likely to be approved.
You may buy a 2 year old car from a car dealer at the amount of 15K.
Your monthly payment for the car can cost around $250 to $300 depends on the length of your loan, 5 or 7 years.
The amount you would pay for the car loan in one year will definitely be less than what you would spend on a mechanic on a used car.
However, bear in mind that any loan always comes with its cost.
You would end up paying 22K in total for the loan on a car that cost 15K.
Therefore, only accept interest rate that is reasonable.

The second option.
If you aren't interested in car financing, I would suggest that you buy the 3K car from an owner and NOT from a car dealership.
You should keep checking Kijiji as a owner may be selling his car for 3K but the market value of the car is way above 3K.
But, when a car dealer is selling a car for 3K, this car most likely cost less than 3K.
You should be diligent on Kijiji. Remember that the car dealers also search for cars on Kijiji. And soon as there is a car on Kijiji with a price that is way below its market value, that car will be gone within minutes. I know people who basically spend every minutes of their lives on Kijiji searching for cars to sell.

According to him, she was the "perfect wife material" in the eyes of his family and friends, but he just didn't feel a deep connection, nor loved her enough to marry her. He had "the talk" with her and they parted ways before we met ..She even is married now so it was all for the best. That goes to show that it's not about cooking and cleaning for a man. The heart wants who it wants, it's just something no one can comprehend. So, uncle.. It was all in your mind.
He had "the talk" with her and they parted way... hmmmm... interresting. Someone made it seems like it was an easy breakup

I had been dumped before. And my ex can say we had "the talk" and we parted way. But the truth is for weeks I cried like a baby. For weeks I was buried in an agony. For weeks I kept asking why. Anyway, I am now blessed with a wife and 5 kids.

Breaking up always seem easy under the perception of the dumper.

merahki, I see your point
