MorataFC: I get that some people found the ads funny, but honestly, the NOA did the right thing by stepping in. There’s a saying: “A small spark can start a big fire,” and “a stitch in time saves nine.” If you don’t address disrespect early, it can grow and cause real damage.
This isn’t about being too serious or lacking humor, it’s about drawing the line. You can’t keep mocking civil servants publicly and expect no response. In many small businesses with just 20 or 50 staff, you’d face consequences for publicly insulting your boss or coworkers. Why should it be different here?
Even on Nairaland, if you disrespect people or use the wrong words, you get banned. Is Seun scoring an own goal for keeping order on his platform? Of course not. He’s protecting the space. So how much more important is it to defend the dignity of civil servants across the entire nation, people who, at one point or another, include our fathers, mothers, and yours too, or even ourselves, ( though some may have retired?)
That’s exactly what the NOA did: defending the dignity of those who serve the country dutifully and faithfully.
Yes, the guy may have gotten more attention now, but good attention is better than bad. Unfortunately, in this age of moral decay and the so-called "woke" generation, any kind of attention is seen as success. But not for people like us, we still value moral standards. And the internet never forgets, this could come back to haunt him in the future.
The NOA’s move also sends a clear message: there are limits, and not everything is fair game for jokes. So kudos to them. So na because of "not for civil servants" you dey type all this one |

BlueRayDick: I don talk my own opinion and I do not intend to convince anyone to see things the way I see it.
I have asked someone up there to give us the law under which the "offence" will be charged and I'm yet to receive a convincing and logical answer.
Lumping and mubling up issues that are unrelated will not erase the fact that indeed civil servants cannot afford luxury cars anywhere in the world. Anybody who thinks a marketer pointing out he can't afford the marketer's products is offensive definitely needs to work on his self esteem. I talk am again, I no hide mouth talk am. Na the koko be this...nothing should concern NOA with the way the guy has chosen to advertise his products. It's one thing for people to have misgivings about the way he does his ads, but it's another thing altogether for the nations NOA to be moving the way they are to what's clearly being said in jest. Doesn't help too that they chose to respond to the joke in that serious manner. I'm sure they could have created an ad or something that'd hit the right points and it won't come off the way the communique did. |

The number of people in his followers that can afford his cars may not be up to 20.

He is obviously doing it for content. And yes, it is not a crime, but then, it can obviously be avoided so we don't set a bar in the future
Tomorrow, someone will target Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba guys. Someone will target Muslims, Nigerians, Africans...
Like I said, he doesn't need to drag anyone to sell his cars.[/color] It's just content, the only reason he's getting dragged is because there's a face to what he does and he's viral...what he's doing is no different from what HypeMen do in clubs, might not agree with his methods, but the NOA targeting him in the manner they did was uncalled for. |

nihilistjnr: Omo my dad suffered trying to run piggery and fishery back in the day.
He bought some land around the Sango toll gate area and setup a few ponds and a couple of sheds for some pigs. I used to hate school holidays back then because it meant working long hours on a dirty smelly farm with all kinds of insects biting you from every angle.
Once a week, we would go to Nestle factory in Agbara estate to buy waste product from producing golden morn then bring it back to the farm in huge buckets which was already back breaking work, but then we'd have to break it down into smaller bits to feed the fish which was just mind-numbingly boring.
Then we would have to make our own pellets for feeding the some of the other fish as well, which was even more boring. In addition to this, we have to spread nets over the ponds to protect from the herons that would often swoop in, break them and eat our fish. The problem was that the fvcking fish too were eating each other, so we also had to keep draining the ponds to sort the fish by size and move them to different ponds, because Catfish are joyless cannibals when they see their smaller brethren. And that's also not accounting for the locals in the area that would hop our fence with net and basket to steal fish as well. We caught one particular guy in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon when my dad decided we must go and farm after church, and my brothers and I used annoyance and frustration to beat the guy to almost an inch of his life. Then the locals gathered to threaten our whole family, my Dad pulls out a machete from the boot, and it becomes this whole mess that only the local Baale could resolve...which required my dad to to squeeze something to the actual thief, and act that pained him and all of us die
Anyway after draining the ponds you have to clean out all the muck and disgusting sht at the bottom, check the gills of the fish for fungus, and all manner of othet disgusting activities.
The piggery side of things was only slightly less disgusting. Pigs don't have hair so they coat themselves in all kinds of literal shit to protect themselves from flies and insects, and given that the farm was basically by a canal, you can only imagine what the hellscape looked like. The stench was unbearable sometimes. Some pigs are also f<cking aggressive and will happily bite your hand off if they could, so we had to watch out for the odd Napoleon when the sows were in hear. The boars will try to bite you and each other, as well as fvck each other. The sows will try to bite you and each other as well as fvck each other. And they're also cannibals.
I say all of that to say this - after enduring all of that BS, when it came to selling the meat and fish, the market women would price you down to almost a kobo if they could, and I saw my dad close to tears on one occasion when he realised that his side hustle wasn't just going to fail to generate the type of revenue he expected, he was going to be disrespected repeatedly during negotiations with the exact type of people he absolutely despises.
After running at a loss for a few years, the nigga just disbanded the whole thing, did a giveaway sale and shutdown operations, but that wasn't even the end of the L. The area where the farm was located is too marshy to support house building without sinking stupid amounts of money into just the foundations alone, and nobody with the kind of money to do that is going to want to live anywhere close to the area, and so he sold the land for I think close to 50% loss.
Monumental L all around. I pity anyone trying to do that business at a small scale. You're just pissing in the wind. Lol, bit was pretty gangster...to do business in Nigeria can be quite crazy sha. Had my own experience raising birds, there was a thriving community for the thing on Nairaland then, was raising 100 chickens for Christmas, and it was going quite well until I made the mistake of buying 50 birds from another farmer (he must have known they were sick) when he offered them to me...those 50 birds infected my original 100 and it became a struggle keeping all 150 alive, lost a few, roughed it and sha managed to get my capital back. Raising animals is a lot of work and you gats dey handson to do it right...at least at the beginning. |

BlueRayDick: This is not the first time this is happening and it won’t be the last time . This thing is a Nigerian problem and it has big ego of those exam bodies written all over it .
1. There was a particular year when there was NLC strike/riot during Obasanjo’s government . I can’t remember the exact year now cos I was much younger but I remember seeing students in the night pass our house late at night after writing their exams . The papers were delayed because most of the WAEC supervisors who carried the exam questions had to cover long distance from WAEC office to exam centers either by foot or look for brave bikemen to take them . There was no movement due to the strike and WAEC refused to cancel/reschedule the paper in Nigeria alone .
2. I learnt the reason for this yesterday’s issue was because the particular paper leaked and WAEC had to outsmart the students by setting a fresh set of questions which led to serious logistics issue .
Well, I experienced something similar in the university when an exam question leaked and the school had to call for the computer science department to bin the initial questions and set a fresh one . We stayed hours in the exam hall and even got tired before the fresh questions arrived . We also had to leave the school late that day .
Personally , I feel in the two scenarios and even this recent WAEC issue, the paper should just have been rescheduled for another date . Our examination bodies/authorities should learn to do away with their pride and make it a duty to take responsibility for their mess up. They shouldn’t always punish the students for their mess up but instead reschedule the exams . The students can’t leak exams without complicity of people working with the office where the exam was set . True sha, it's very likely these things would keep happening, and the thing is exam co-ordinators at the Ward or LGA level can't decide to do what's humane and push the exam to the next day, cause what's the guarantee that you'd push the exam and your boss won't attribute it to your desire to compromise the exams...with the level of smart phone penetration that def compromises the exams sef. I think some of the problems these exam co-ordinators have to deal with are those that are beyond their power (foundational governance issues) cause on a norm things like this, na to move questions very early hours of exam day, but with the security situation, what's the guarantee that it isn't you walking right into the arms of hoodlums. I just wonder what they come up with as solutions to situations like this when they're having strategy meetings ahead of these exams. |

How did we allow a man who graduated from a school before it was established to ensure proper education for our children?
How did we allow a supposed transgender fellow to provide a route to national security? That line should have never been crossed. We've become a proper anything goes country. A country that can't even provide the bare minimum for its children...the level of disregard that Nigerian children have had to interface with in the past couple weeks calls for deep reflection. I've seen videos from the North, SW and SE and SS...that nobody can think to stamp their feet and say it isn't normal for that sort of thing to be happening tells how much we've been defeated. Using an existing party is never a good decision in this case at all. Well INEC would not outrightly refuse registration of a new party, they'd just do enough to make the politicians know they're embarking on a fool's errand. I'm sure these guys have thought of this angle of registering a new political party, cause it's the obvious line of thought, it's cause they know it won't work that they've settled for working with existing parties. in hindsight, they'd probably have done registration down in a previous election cycle, but build-up to 2027, there's no way. |

I think registering a new party is still the best option cos no matter what promises those existing party members make, if they get a sumptuous offer from APC some of them will jump at it and cause problem in the party. You think they haven't thought of registering a new party? There's no ban on registering new political parties, but INEC makes the process almost impossible to, through the requirements you have to meet and administrative delays they'd include. https://tribuneonlineng.com/inec-frustrating-registration-of-new-political-party-coalition/ |

They are better off registering a new party like APC did back then instead of using an existing party which it's existing members can drag the soup of the party with them through a gazzilion of court cases funded by the ruling party APC Registering a new party is next to impossible...INEC would simply frustrate them. From what I saw on SM, they already spoke with the leaders of the party, and those ones have agreed to surrender party machinery to them, including the chairman of the party stepping down...I guess that was the mistake Peter Obi made with LP dem. APC is very okay with ensuring either of Peter Obi or Atiku can't contest 2027 so that it'd be Tinubu vs some plant contesting the elections. I suspect they're doing that to ensure the campaign trail isn't more difficult than it needs be, which would require BAT to be personally involved. |
