Justagirl01:
Hey guys, please bear with me for this is going to be lengthy, but at the moment I am at a crossroad. Had to create a new account because of this.

I met my husband in 2012 while I was serving (NYSC), we were first friends before we started dating. We started cohabiting in 2013 and we had a lot of issues from family to money management to cheating to gambling to fighting to breaking up several times and getting back, I will spare you guys the sordid details.

He lost his job in 2015 and since then he has been gambling. He does other things on the side like writing which doesn't bring alot but the money goes into gambling. I reported him to everyone I felt could speak to him because this was destroying and taking a toll on our finances, all the times this was happening, we were not married. Please keep in mind that I wasn't the best of persons at the time, I used to be throw my fists at him, fight with him in the middle of the road if I get triggered, our sex life was dead because emotionally I was deeply unhappy at the turn of events. I kept talking to him and wanted him to do better because I believed he could only if he just applied himself.

Our last major breakup we had was because he advised I should further my studies in the UK but I refused chasing the process because I didn't have the resources. He promised he was going to support me but he didn't have a job and on several occasions he has left me hanging in some financial situations in the past so I wasn't interested in starting what I couldn't see through. All of this was in 2019. While we were on and off, he tried other relationships and I tried too but I loved him so much so I kept going back to beg him whenever we had issues. I couldn't move on. After so much back and forth and heartbreaks, and from the frustrations I got from fighting women off him, I decided I was going to move on.

When I decided to start the process of travelling to the UK, we were in the middle of a breakup, I pleaded with him that I want him to walk this path with me, and since I didn't have enough, he could come along as a dependent so he can work the balance of my fees while I concentrate on my studies, and that since he didn't have any tangible thing doing, it is an opportunity to start a life and start earning something again. At first he was reluctant, I had to plead with him for weeks before he finally agreed to do so with me. His fears accordingly to him is that he doesn't trust me because I am erratic.

Fast forward to 2020 April, i got admission, sold alot of my stuffs, and travelled. Prior to my travelling, I had sent him money to do his passport and pay for marriage in Ikoyi registry and money for clothes as well, he didn't do none of it, and couldn't account for the money either. I got to know this a day before the so-called date that was fixed as I came from Benin, thinking I was getting married the next day but in the morning when I woke him up for us to get dressed, he said the wedding would not be holding. To cut the long story short, I had to pay for a fast track wedding a few days to my leaving the country.

I left for the UK this year January in the hope that he'd join me latest March unfortunately he hasn't been able to join me. He doesn't have the resources to fund his trip either and I can't fund it because I still have my balance tuition to pay. Since I got here its been one quarrel to another. I can work to fund his relocation after paying off my balance tuition but I feel he doesn't love me as he's willing t walk away at the slightest provocation.

I feel so alone, I don't feel loved and it has been like this for the past years. When we have a quarrel, he shuts me out, never takes my calls or read my messages. When I call those I think can reach him because I have tried to reach him for days, its another round of anger and shutting out. I am just really unhappy because I am at a loss at what to do at the moment,

Do I just move on? I am super stressed from trying to clear of the balance of my fees, thinking of how to sort out my life after school and I am navigating all these thoughts alone. I fear that nothing will change because our relationship has been toxic due to the kind of pain we have caused each other. I am willing to do better and be better as I have always said to him but on a ground that he will make conscious effort to be bette. I fear that when he comes he might continue to gamble or probably go AWOL on me if I offend him as this is what he does all the time.

I just need advice. Even though I am married, it doesn't feel like it. I don't feel loved or cared for, I don't feel like I matter to him. Emotionally, I am very very alone. He can go days or weeks without speaking to me when we have a major misunderstanding. I just want some peace, oneness, love and transparency.
This is obviously not working out between you two.
Move on.

Hello all
Please am coming to the uk soon with family to study (msc biotechnology).I would like to know
1: employment chances after study
2: residency after 4years, route to ply
Wifey too would be doing msc after our 4year visa expires, and we have a baby almost 1year, will she be able to work full time and support us while I am in school? And also is this worth it? Thanks
Given that you want your wife to work full-time, it is assumed that you have your childcare sorted in the form of family or friends.
Otherwise your wife cannot obviously work full time if you are schooling full-time unless she quickly gets a job that will pay enough to cover the costs of full day childminder/nursery school in addition to your other living costs.

Enough has been said on this thread and elsewhere about the prospects of securing such employment which naturally depend on her field, previous experience and sheer good luck.

No reference number or anything to use in identifying the payment?

Yes to get a British lady..Now enough Nigerians with British pally good babes.

Secondly, presently because this graduate route is still new and because of brexit, most companies will like to retain you and file for you because we are hard working people. Oyinbo like to smoke cigarette they can leave their job for so many hours. Once the govt reach the number they want in their system, I tell you they may not renew some peoples permits or if there is a change of policy or govt. I remember the ones done in 2004,2005 till 2010 after that some people were told to go back to their country, whereas those that came earlier had gotten indefinate leave to stay and even some after 10 years got their british pally.

Another rejection could come from some companies In fact the law states that in recruitment they should consider British citizen first but a company that will take you, they have a way of defending you by telling home office that after two weeks no British candidate was qualified, hence the reason of employing you.

The one that is painful the most is when you have a Nigerian in your office as a supervisor and you are good at your work, he knows after ten years you will need his help, just to recommend you to the senior boss. He may disappoint because of fear of who you may become in that company. And if nobody recommends you, baba na home be that except you get married to a British citizen or continue with a PhD. These are facts people need to know.
The bolded and the italicised are opinions, not facts.

Hello senior,

Please any help with this credit score of a thing?

I tried to get a contract sim only at 02 , they said I'm not eligible. I tried to get several credit cards , same thing.

Please is it possible for tier 4 visa holder to get voting roll or how can I sort this credit issue?
Gini?
Stop applying for credit cards - the more you apply, the more you mess up your nascent credit record, each rejected application counts against you.
Yes, you can register to vote, go to the gov.uk site and do that.

Leave this matter for another 6 months at least.

House, I got this condition requirement for my admission at Salford University

receipt of a personal statement, please use this as a guide:
http:///y76ub6hm and receipt of a copy of
your passport which must be in date for the first day of
teaching and payment of a 4,400 GBP study deposit, or
provision of a satisfactory financial guarantee or
sponsorship letter; Please upload requested documents to
the Applicant Portal

Whereas, I've submitted a personal statement when applying ( shows pending review )

I'm not clear on the other part which says "receipt of a copy of
your passport which must be in date for the first day of
teaching
"

Anyone else had this kind of decision letter before?

I need help with how best to go about this.

PS - This is my first ever "conditional offer" I've received from all the schools I've applied to, and they're obviously my first choice.
Means that your passport must not have expired by the date your course starts.
In other words, if your course starts on 14 September 2021, any passport you are going to upload now must have an expiry date after 14 September 2021.

@Ralphjean please does giffgaff GBP10 sim a month qualify as SIM only contract?
If you had to fill a form for a credit check giving details about yourself, addresses, employment, and bank details etc., then you have a contract.
If not, it's just one of their "goodybag" plans you can cancel anytime.

Ask around, talk to your coursemates (if you're in school), friends, etc., find out what they are doing and how they got those. Good old word of mouth.
Walk into supermarkets and stores around you and ask if they've any vacancies available.
Read up and down this thread, people have made some helpful suggestions from their experiences especially in this Covid-era.
And do try not to say that the thread is long and you haven't the time..... wink

Couldn't get an answer on the student thread, my question is that:

I have been seeing that people pay their tuition with naira account, and the pounds equivalent is deducted, my dad has dollar in his Stanbic domiciliary account.

Can we pay the tuition with the dollar, my plan was to Change the dollar to naira and pay the tuition.

Also, which of the two is cost effective in terms of paying with the dollar or naira?
Paying with the naira is more cost effective, if you can change your USD to naira at the unofficial rate.
E.g. you change USD to naira at 483. You then fund your naira account and do the Form A process to pay your fees, which uses the official exchange rate of 410 or whatever it is now. So you save yourself some change on the spread of 72 naira.

@Justwise and all, please what do you think about Aberdeen(RGU) in terms of Part time job and Cost of living.

Thank you
Cost of living in Aberdeen should be quite reasonable now. Sadly it was hit by the 2014 oil price wahala so rents were affordable before Covid and should still be that way now. As for jobs, it's a smallish town (the University of Aberdeen is virtually in the city centre and Garthdee, where RGU is, is a short bus ride away from the city centre) and I don't think there would be many available this Covid period just like in other similar-sized locations until things pick up post-lockdown. As its a small town, you can reach everywhere you need to go on foot if you put your mind to it.

So sorry to bother you. I want to make my deposit this friday to one of these universities below and I really do not know which one to go for, in terms of getting part-time jobs, job prospects after school and going to a very good university.
I have offer from the following universities below -
1. Robert Gordon University - MSC Cyber security (1year). 2. Univeristy of Salford Manchester - MSC Cyber Security (1year) and
3. Nottingham Trent University - MSc IT Security (2years)
4. Teesside University - MSC Cyber Security (2years)
5. Univeristy of Warwick - MSC Cyber Security Engineering (1year)

Please @justwise I'll really appreciate your response.
Salford first, then RGU Aberdeen.

The university will issue you an official CAS for visa purposes which will lay out what it has offered you.

@TheGuyFromHR How easy is it to transition to HR? Will you advise it? And what courses or steps can one take towards that?
Transitioning to HR is the easiest thing in the world, but I wouldn't necessarily advise it.
If you really wanted to do that, and since you're already coming to the UK, look more to taking a CIPD qualification than a masters.

Hi, I'm a bit curious. The high commission has been closed for passport renewal since December 22 last year. So, did your friend go to renew his/her passport or something else?

If this is true it really does not make sense. The high commission has been closed for a combination of many months due to the pandemic, how come they have run out of passport booklets.
Unfortunately and very sadly, the bolded is now the essence of Nigeria.

I'm making a deposit of 5,000 and the total amount for tuition fees is 14, 000, the balance after deducting the 5,000 from the total tuition fees will be 9,000 plus living expenses for a year is 9207, I used Oanda.com to check the total amount of 18,207 and I got 9,538,870 and I want to make a deposited of 10 million Naira.

It’s University of Northampton May offer, please I don't to make any mistake that is the reason I need advice on this.
Thanks in Advance guy.
You're on track, but note that exchange rates can fluctuate, so where possible calculate using a higher exchange rate and deposit in excess of that sum.

The UK has not banned nurses of Nigerian origin from taking employment in the UK, the UK government simply said it would not actively recruit medical staff from developing countries anymore.

In other words, everything remains the same except that medical personnel who want to work in the UK are now supposed to initiate the process themselves.

If you come out to the UK to study nursing, you are perfectly free to seek a job in the NHS thereafter, and if they want you, nothing stops them from hiring you.

Had offered some landlords 6 months rent before and they didn’t call me still. Will just keep doing that. Thanks
I see.
Well others have offered some more tips above, just keep on it, something will definitely turn up.
I understand that the validity of your family's 3 month entry permits are running, so you might want to consider renting an Airbnb for like a month (you usually get discounts when you do so, so the cost might be closer to what you would have paid in rent + utilities), so you can get your people over and avoid having their visas expire and require renewal.

Hi everyone. Good to belong to this family. My friend just told me about living in the UK threads. I came to the UK in January. I’m a post graduate student staying in Wolverhampton. It has really been difficult for me to rent a house. My husband and children are meant to come in April but I still haven’t been able to rent a house because I’m a student and not working yet. Please I really need help on how to go about it. . My children don’t understand why they are still in Nigeria when they already have their visa. Please help!!! It’s weighing me down. Any one in Wolverhampton I can hook up with? Please I need all the contacts and ideas I can get. Thank you.
Assuming that you're already using the main rental websites (Zoopla, Rightmove, etc.) and possibly any high street letting agents in your area, if you are seeing suitable properties which fall within your budget but are being rejected for whatever reason, simply offer the next landlord(s) some months' rent in advance.

Thank you so much.

But am wondering other post graduate courses I could do since I studied Chemical Engineering. My mind was on Project Management but with this shortage occupation thing, I will have to tweak my search again.

My sister resides in Aberdeen which made me focus more on courses offered in RGU since University of Aberdeen Post graduate courses are quite expensive. And I don't want to do oil and gas courses.

I am now confused on how to begin this journey.

Please I need all the suggestions and necessary support.
Even if you focus on those on the shortage occupation list, there is no guarantee that you will get a job in any of those roles.
Maybe you could try procurement, supply chain and related fields.

I can give you general advice about what is best NOT to do however, and

a) your decision not to do anything oil and gas is the right one
b) MSc Project Management is not really anything special job-wise, if you have project management in mind, you'd be better off getting APM-certified.
c) I know the city of Aberdeen very well, and if you have support there, there is nothing wrong with going to RGU as opposed to University of Aberdeen, the almost 7k difference in fees is well worth it and you'd be glad to have that money in hand in these days of scarcity of student jobs until things pick up post-lockdown.

Best of luck.
