Politics / Re: Lagos State Empowers 1050 Residents (Pictures) by themaestro08(m): 7:20am On Dec 11, 2020
Vaughanlanrewaj:

Please don't repeat this sir. It is completely wrong and clearly elitist or lack of understanding of developmental microeconomics.

Even in High School economics, poverty cycle is taught. Those items being donated by LASG are items that have greater and quicker impact on taking people out of poverty cycle. It comes from position of knowledge and I commend the government.

They are targeted at women and women are more likely to prioritise the feeding of their children than men and these women may now have extra to save in ajo on a daily basis after meeting basic survival needs. So while it may take years to finish major infrastructures, these women can survive until then.
To escape the poverty trap, the first thing you must achieve is savings followed by investment. Poor people, world over, hardly have enough to spend on basic needs, let alone have anything left to save.

This is very commendable in a place like Lagos but I am not sure it will work in Osun, probably the women may need agricultural tools than sewing machines.

In Nigeria, urban dwellers are actually those cheating the poor in the villages; for years, even without having roads , internet, water ,cars and electricity, they were picking up the bills used to fund petrol and electricity subsidy of their urban dwelling relatives to the point that nothing is left in national budgets even to buy medicines in their village cottage clinics.

If a developmental revolution must begin in Nigeria, it must start from those villages to shift resources to helping our poor in the villages not this elitist one by endSars protest or political state actors like Sowore.

The revolution must be organic and bottom up from the cheated Nigerian villagers and whoever must lead it should be from among them. Not those junketting around in brief cases calling themselves development expert. Our poor villagers must force government to give them a substitute of the subsidies their urban relatives are enjoying or enjoyed for years.

They must impose special developmental tax on their relatives returning to the villages and such funds must be used to fund their own economic and political activities.

We had a similar one with the Agbekoya and India is on the throes of one with the riots by farmers for days now. Those farmers are the real poor who are now piling pressure on Indian government.

This 24hr internet dwelling lifestyle itself that makes one privileged subsidy-enjoying Nigerian to be suggesting that the poor denied of everything do not need empowerment , itself is a reflection of how Nigerian urban dwellers think. They hardly imagine that the internet itself is a luxury these poor villagers can't afford yet pick up bills for those whose stock in trade is sabotaging the country after enjoying far more privileges than the real poor Nigerians in our villages.

If you are a villager privileged to read this, please note that your redemption and economic liberation is not in the hands of your urban relatives, as a matter of fact, they are part of the burden you carry.

To emancipate yourself, organize and insist that for any subsidy or privilege given to your urban dwelling relatives, an equivalent of it must be provided for your villages too.

Everything is not about those who have access to internet and can write English, there are real people suffering from the way government give more priority to the loud urban dwelling Nigerians but the lives of the poor especially in our villages too matter.

Commend the Lagos government all you like but it still doesn't negate the fact that this is a drop in the ocean and definitely not what we need at this point.

As the guy you quoted said, conducive environment is all what creatives in this country need - quality infrastructure, funding, inflow of foreign investment, good education system, stable economy, sound healthcare. This is what Nigerians need not this cosmetic schemes. Its even embarrassing that in this day and age this government is handing out sewing and grinding machines as a means of poverty alleviation. Disgraceful angry

1981-2015 China lifted 400+ million people out of poverty through massive investment in industry and infrastructure, as a result the poverty rate has been decreased substantially. Let's learn from them.

Real niggarrs go into that store and get the CD and dont flinch cos aint no need to get shy of sex.

I remember my final year in Unilorin not very long ago, when I escorted one of gee wey dey sick go clinic as a real niggarr.

After a long time on one of the benches waiting beofore seeing a doctor, we got to the pharmacy end to collect his drugs. Om sighting the condoms, instinct just made me get some CD's, despite the fact folks were around and we left after getting the drugs.

We went to the famous Item 7 to get some meals and on our way going back to the faculty of life sciences, some girls passing by joked about me picking CD's in the clinic.

I had to leave my sick friend and joined in the laugh for a minute. They were 3 freshers who lived in a new private hostel on campus and had also accompanied a sick friend to the clinic.

I had to collect one's number and joined my niggar back. I had to come to campus for night class some days later and the rest you could figure out yaself.

This girl is a very beautiful lady which i know would have lots of suitors on her head. I never even intended dating her until she converted our friendship to relationship.

When we started, i noticed her incessant calls and had to complain about them which got reduced with time. In most cases, i would bring up issues pertaining to her having an affair with some of those people which she would discard and even get angry enough as to quarrel with me.
So, because of the texts and calls she was getting i became suspicious and one evening when i read a text from a guy addressing her as "baby and luv" i finally vented my anger, she strolled out that evening while i waited at home, later on, i took her phone, old phone which she barely uses, i turned it on and went through her Whatsapp messages, it was then that i discovered she has had an affair with a boss she was working for and even got messed up without her salary being paid for that month.

Not just that, other guys too have had their pounds of flesh. I was messed up that evening because this lady would insist we have sex without condom. So messed up that when she came, for the first time in my life, i layed my hands on a woman and slapped her so bad, I even beat her till she was unconcious and when she finally gained conciousness, she started begging and explaining, she even pretended like she wants to drink hypo bleech due to heart break.

To cut the long story short, i got other texts too from guys in her phone, one in particular sent her "are we still seeing today ?" Which she told me she never made any arrangement with the guy.
Well, i have invested much on this girl and i don't want to let her go like that, she had turned me to a brutal guy. I don't know what to do, i don't want to break up with her because she would just shift to another guy the next day, so I need advise on the best medicine for this kind of lady.

Such a distasteful read. So you beat to the point of unconsciousness? And you have the guts to say it here? Forgetting how many souls have been lost to such senseless domestic violence.

nlc=organised labour I guess....

That's because Nigerian governments and the Nigerian people like subsides. The right thing for Buhari to have done would have been to abolish subsidy from the word go. The market would have done its thing eventually, and prices would have gone down by now.

But because that means prices as high as 300 naira per liter, and since he and his gang promised N40 fuel....

Subsides are always tough to remove. No Nigerian government has removed subsides. All they do is increase the price of fuel to the level where they can safely pay a subsidy.

The economy is going to suffer. Because Nigerians like subsides.

And the whole price control thing is why we don't have functional refineries. No incentive to refine at home. (Unless your name is Dangote and now the BUA guy)

1.Power for the most part is in private hands.

2.Until recently, Nigeria was producing power at N53 per kwh and selling at N30 per kwh or less. Which meant that DISCOS and GENCOS weren't making enough cash to fund improvements. That's why six years after privatization there has been no improvement in power.

3.You opposed subsidy in your second point. Yet, you want government to continue paying power companies a subsidy, which is what is was doing from 2014 till recently. And it was incurring a lot of debt in the process.Loans were even been taken.

4.The road to better power supply begins with power companies being allowed to run at a profit. Running companies at a loss, while politically popular, is a recipe for more poor electric power supply.

After all, the reason why I can type this missive from my home is because Obasanjo allowed GSM companies to run at a profit...even when people were calling for price controls back then. The GSM companies made ginormous profits...which were invested back in infrastructure...and our internet.

Somewhat. You rightly criticized Buhari for increasing subsides on fuel...(after he Buhari hypocritically criticized subsidies too in the past...) and then at the same time you want government to make DISCOS sell power below how much it costs to produce, and pay them a suybsidy to cover the loss..which won't do so, and which would cause more problems.

Like most Nigerians, you don't like subsides, yet you want the government to pay a subsidy, and force companies to run at a loss.

Its actually funny how Nigerians attribute the coming of GSMs to in Nigeria to Obasanjo. As if that was some an achievement or something. angry. Forgotten we are in the age of technology.

So today we have drones who do we attribute that to?
