Cherokee: Depends on a few factors like which region you are going to and if you have a prior driving experience plus license. The first point is always to register and take a computer based test on road signs and rules. If you pass this stage you do a vision test and obtain a learners license. You can drive with this license only when accompanied by an experienced driver and you’re restricted to some hours of the day for driving. After about 9 months, you can book for a road test and if successful, you get issued an intermediate license. You may skip the learner process if you have a prior license from home for at least two years or more. Tojued: BROS.. Tojued:Late response. Quite on the contrary there's nothing much here to talk about. Life is serene and traffic is light. Here can be considered the Ibadan of Canada. There is a large Nigerian community here. It's not hard to run into a few of them daily. I'm sure i interacted with almost 10 new faces today. A higher proportion of newcomers are provincial nominees so there's a support system in place for them. If you plan on being lowkey and living a normal life, Winnipeg is the place for you. Houses are within the range of 900-1300 for a 2 bedroom apartment (most come with all utilities while some may offer one or two). Cost of living is quite cheap compared to other big cities. Phone/utility bills are less than what i see obtainable in places like ontario or bc. Shaw cable is about $50. Koodo $45 canada wide and 6gb. Transport system is just okay during the day but can be hellish at night, depending on where you go. I hear winter period is very scary. Taxis are not cheap here and few Uber like rideshare services are available. I heard Lyft was planning to come in but were locked out by bureaucracy. Weather- We've had two snow showers already in September and currently, 8 degrees is a very sunny day at the moment. I beg u, if you don't have a drivers license, please avoid here for now. Jobs: the job market is not as bouyant as the other provinces so they're about a few jobs here and there. A search on linkedin or glassdoor will reveal this to you. Nigerians here are mostly childcare/support worker/ Security and don't be suprised if that is the first avenue they push you to. I'm not saying we don't have Nigerians in the white collar workforce- infact many but based on what i've seen here, more are on survival than white collar. They're living their own realities and those ive interacted with are happy with it. Multiple shifts, own cars and a mortgage - That's the Nigerian dream. If you keep your head up and patiently sift through the job market, you'll get something, maybe not in your field but more meaningful. The're also call centers, education assistant gigs, pharmacies, logistic firms here and so is skip the dishes. If you plan on settling proper with minimal funds, i think its easy to find foot here. Put in the regular work and you may see yourself owning your home in about 5 years or less. Mortgage is not as backbreaking as Toronto et al. Another good side is if you're working towards acquiring a certification or further your studies, winnipeg is a place to laylow, settle in then buzz out. The plan of most newcomers is to get here, settle down and break out including yours truly. The only hindering factor for them is they have to pay their provincial dues of sitting in here for at least two years even though I know a few renegades who have damned the consequences. For an urban setting, winnipeg may be quite boring. Food. Lots of African stores here. I dey carry eba, poundo, rice go office on a steady. I can even say I eat Nigerian meals almost all the time. Shebi na we dey cook am. the only thing i'm not yet totally used to is this $30 haircut . Funfact: Yoruba may be the second most spoken language after English and maybe hindu. 2. Most Nigerians live around Pembina/ University of Manitoba area. It's quite hard keeping up with home if you have a 9-5 job, the 6hr difference can be a pain in the butt. Plan on getting your car as soon as possible if you get here. WINTER IS COMING! Should you chose to come here, visit Manitoba start for post arrival services. That is a brief first hand summary of my three month experience here. Mehn today is month 3 sha. drcynthia: 56 Likes 9 Shares |

So I finally braced the odds to step into the city center though public transit (not every day uber) and was at Square One mall in Mississauga. free wifi everywhere you go. cant imagine if ICM tries that in lagos (awon keyboard warriors and team snapchat ). First interview today, hopeful. Finally saw a police car today. Naija police catch your sub! Almost got lost on the way back. No internet and i stopped at the wrong stop. Got on the next bus (apparently the $4 card is valid for 2 hours) so due to wrong stop, ended up home in another two buses. 18 Likes

Landing gist' Departure date was July 2 via EgyptAir. Flight was billed for 1:40pm, We left home with the entourage around past 10 (my house was close by). Got in, tipped a little for entourage to get in. plus those that wanted to disturb sha. Dropped bags at the weighing point, all bags were way over the 23kg limit. Left the place to print out goods to follow forms and before i returned, bags had been reduced to 49kg (3kg extra) and 47kg (1kg extra) with a little motivation - the rest will have to be cargoed down. Hand luggages were about 11kg each and i still had a Laptop backpack with a laptop, our credentials and a few books. Checked in online the previous day so everything was kind of smooth. Said a few goodbyes, then I and the mrs went in towards the boarding gate. Plane took off for cairo at 2:40pm, a mini plane and it wasn't even full. Inflight entertainment were two movies. Jumanji and Ferdinand (cartoon). Food was nice at least. We Landed at Cairo minutes past nine (local time) for a four hour lay over, bought wifi minitues (surprised it wasnt free), 2dollars for an hour each to update peeps at home (30 mins free additional browsing was allowed). Mailed Airbnb host if We could come and drop our luggages before check in time of 3pm and he replied that there wont be anyone at the apartment to let us in. Light dinner at burger king. We boarded and left around 2am in a much bigger aircraft for the tedious 12 hour flight to Toronto. Inflight entertainment was on demand (more movie options), two meals were served as well as snacks, juice and water at intervals. we were giving declaration cards to fill while close to YYZ. Landed at Toronto Pearson at 8am July 3 then proceeded to clear, got SIN nos, then our luggages. Everything was done in less than hour so since we had time to kill, we just sat down and continued enjoying free wifi at the baggage collection point. One airport security approached us hours later that we aren't meant to sit there for long that we should clear with immigration and sit at the exit lounge. so we went in and the dude was asking about cash, food items(we said no dairy or meat foods were in the bags) and why we were just coming to clear since we landed hours ago. He asked how much we had on us and wanted to see the money so i removed from my inner jeans pocket (wore two jeans trousers) and dropped on his table, he just signed off the form without counting. For tbills letter, he said it wasnt necessary (money on the table was a little below the 15k cad pof requirement). Goods to follow form was full and a bit overvalued and he signed and told me to take to cashier. Cashier sends for him and they had a loong discussion and he came back saying I will have to reduce the values of items i wrote and perishable foods are not part of goods to follow as they are non taxable bla bla bla. We sha ended up reducing the total to $8,600 from $16k and we were off. We sat down at the lounge for another hour and then ordered an Uber from the airport to destination in Brampton(20 mins away). Driver was a Kenyan immigrant- very lively and helpful. Uber cost $38 and it asked if We wanted to add tips which I declined. On a second thought, I remembered how helpful the guy was in moving our luggage both at airport and at airbnb location so I added something extra. Host's wife gave us the key to the apartment and we settled in. There was free wifi and cable TV included plus some goodies in the fridge and cabinet. Watched England kick Columbia out then jetlag set in. Slept and woke up by 1 just to sleep again a few hours later. DAY 2 Took an Uber to a RBC branch nearby and was on the verge of opening an akant and getting free ipad (with some not so hard conditions) but we told the customer service lady that we were moving to Winnipeg soon so she said we should wait till we get there to open the account. We opened a savings and US dollar account to save the cash we had on us and proceeded to the electronic store next door to buy adapters for our phone/laptop chargers as the regular plugs in Nigeria wont go into the wall sockets. Lunch at a restaurant next door, some minor grocery shopping, enjoying free wifi everywhere we go. Tried to get a Fido line later on but part of the requirements was a PR Card or a cheqing account which wasnt available and I wasn't ready to pay $70 for 2gb prepaid data. Got back home 8:15pm and the sun was still shinning. Ramadan 2019 is in God's hand . 61 Likes 7 Shares |

So after the backlog tussle between dhl and accra on pickup, I finally received passports andCOPR 2.0 yesterday with a new visa stamp. The previous one was stamped "canceled without prejudice". I never even travel and accra has taken 2 pages out of 32. Issokay. Ticket ticket ticket... time for moonshot. A court wedding +/intro will suffice. Dont delay till the big day. Still celebrating this feat with WES refund . 18 Likes |
