SHARE YOUR STORIES OF FAILURE AND SUCCESS In the world we live in right now, motive is everything. Two friends can engage in the same situation with different motives. Colleagues can share their promotion news with others to either be boastful about it or to motivate someone in the company. There is a lot of story telling these days to make others feel they are not doing enough and there are stories shared to encourage other to push through. This isn't the main part of the write-up. The main part of the write-up is to share your story of success and failure. The process and how you were able to pull through great and difficult situations. The story sharing doesn't necessarily have to be online but share to motivate someone, share for someone to avoid same error, share for someone to derive strength to pull through. I have shared posts in the past from time to time and some months back (maybe 4months), a senior colleague I respect so much sent me a long write-up (image is a fragment) and I was excited to read those beautiful feedback. At the time I was going through the situation she wrote about, it doesn't look good and rosy for me but I picked the lessons from it. I share with one motive in mind, I share that it would lift others. I share that folks can know if they find themselves in such situation, they can come out successfully on the other side. P.S: This friend of mine now works as Data Analyst at Deloitte |

#DearApplicant, I understand that job hunting, seeking a better offer and transitioning into a different career path can be very tasking and disturbing. But trust me, being able to compose yourself and realise what you want is very vital. -- Don't just wake up one determined morning and start applying for jobs. That's not the way to go. -- Start with: -Putting yourself together -Know what you want -Access yourself honestly if you match what you want; if not, skill up and get experience (Volunteering and Interning) -Then start applying for jobs -- I can assure you of something; you won't be an applicant forever. Regards, Your Recruiter |
Dr Tobore Gbemre Treat Applicants, New Joiners, Interns or NYSC Personnel with kindness... Let me tell a short story that happened some years ago and is still playing out.. A new engineer was employed into an organization in the early 2000s. On joining, he had a manager who didn't like him. The manager frustrated him, criticized his work and bypassed him for training and growth opportunities. This young engineer kept being professional and delivered on his task. His quality job spoke for him and he got transferred to work directly with the MD as his Technical Assistant (TA). That signalled his exponential growth in the organization. He was sent for training and courses, both local and overseas, sent for conferences and seminars and he enjoyed regular promotion, which made up and surpassed all what he lost. Fast forward to year 2018, the young engineer had risen to become the Deputy MD of the organization while his former boss was now retired. During the processing of the former boss' retirement benefits, the DMD needed to sign and he saw his former boss' name. He remembered all what the former boss subjected him through. Being human, he got emotional and delayed signing.. The former boss had fallen on hard times due to the recession and the ongoing devaluation of the Naira which eroded his savings over the years, and needed his benefits for survival.. To cut the story short, it took a lot of people to pacify the DMD before he signed and released his benefits to him. When they eventually met, the old boss could not look at him in the eyes and he felt ashamed. The DMD forgave him and they made up. Whether you're currently a Manager, General Manager or Executive, remember a day will come when you'll retire. You won't work forever! Be kind to applicants, new joiners, Interns, NYSCs and fresh hires. In 15-20 years from today, you would have probably retired and these Interns, NYSCs and fresh hires will be the ones at the helm of affairs then. They'll be the ones to pay your pension, medical and retirement benefits. Do you get? I'm talking to you, yes, YOU!!! Titles and Positions are transient and ephemeral. Do not get conceited, proud or get carried away. Please, remain humble and be fair in your dealings...! That young boy, girl, Applicant, Intern, NYSC or new joiner of today will grow and become an Industry Leader in years to come when you'll be retired, and they may be in charge of decisions that may affect you.. This is just a gentle reminder for us to treat people kindly and be transparent in our dealings. Have you ever been picked on unfairly by a senior colleague? How did you handle it? Also, if you were the DMD in this story, would you have forgiven your former boss? I share real-life stories to motivate, inspire and encourage you. A lesson for ALL. His landlord sent him and his family packing because he could not renew his house rent. He then applied for loan from the manager of the company he was working for, but the loan was not approved. He contacted the influential man in his community, but could not find help. He then called his relatives on the phone , but no one helped him. He went to Facebook and posted, seeking for help, but the only thing he got was: 2likes and 0 comments. He became frustrated and sent 120 messages to friends on his contact list, asking them for support of N100,000. Unfortunately, only 10 people responded to the message. Six out of the 10 said they had nothing to give. Only one out of 4 people gave him N20,000, but the rest kept apologizing and eventually stopped picking his calls. The landlord locked the house! His family were thrown out and left at the front door of the house with their belongings. He became more frustrated! He went everywhere in search of help but could not find one until nightfall. As he made more effort in the dark, looking for solution, a truck ran over him and killed him instantly. The next day, news of his death spread everywhere. His Facebook friends made 2220 posts on his wall, mourning his death and expressing their admiration for him. The landlord immediately ran to open the door for his family to go in to receive mourners. The influential man who earlier refused to help him, took some food items and groceries to the family to cook for the mourners. Preparations for his burial began later and his friends, who formed a committee raised N1,200,000 through donations to feed sympathizers that will be coming from different places. His co-workers also raised N300,000 to collect booths, chairs and other items. Where Is Our Humanity? |
