Oh!

So you suddenly could not continue to support the empty head that I ever implied or stated that University of Ibadan was a Yoruba regional university.

I stink of truth and the truth has shut you up.

I repeat, there were 3 successive Igbo school council Chairmen at University of Ibadan. All of them were NCNC party men.

What happened to all the educated Yorubas that were NCNC loyalists in Lagos or Western Region.

Why was Azikiwe and his Igbo gang multiplying and perpetuating keduism in a federal institution?

What were the merits of Louis Mbanefo's appointment as the last of the Keduites.

If he was the first Igbo lawyer that late (1935) in the history of Nigerian education, what happened to the scores of other lawyers in Nigeria and in NCNC that were not Igbos, such that they were unworthy to be School Council Chairman in a federal school not owned by the Igbos?

Still not able to disprove my points. Just regurgitating your allegations. NCNC this, NPC that. Zik this, ibiam that. WHAT IS MERIT O....huh Why facing zik when it was balewa that made appointments? Coward.

None and I repeat none of your Yoruba could challenge the professional competence of the Igbo at the time.

All you knew was tribalism, nepotism, and all forms of clannishness and entitlements, a typical "agbero" syndrome. "Ni ilu wa...ni adugbo wa..." Nonsense.
I have already stated what influences NCNC had in a government of which it was a partner, and what influences Azikiwe had in that government over decisions the North did not care about.

I have highlighted your nepotism and tribalism as revealed by Akanu Ibiam to ensure that only an Igbo who wasn't the most qualified Nigerian, becomes the Principal at Ibadan, else, a foreigner will be hired.

I reckon Oladele Ajose was an entitled Agbero who became the first African Professor ever in Nigeria and senior to any Igbo in University of Ibadan. So as an Agbero, he had to be sidelined for the most qualified Igbo, who if he insists to not accept a position he knew he wasn't the most qualified for, no other Nigerian who were his seniors would be considered by the Igbo School Council Chairman.

Did Oladele Ajose need to challenge Dike when he was already his senior on the Academic Board and pioneer African Professor in the whole school and country?

And am I surprised you could not explain why successive Chairmen of the school board at UI had to be Igbos too? Maybe Louis Mbanefo being the first Igbo lawyer after scores of Yoruba lawyers over many decades prior, made him the most suitable Igbo to be chairman over any other suitable Nigerian?

Keduism eventually died when you overreached yourselves.

Poetic justice has got Kenneth Dike's son still lamenting that the federal university pioneered by his father in Awka after the civil war, was later named after Nnamdi Azikiwe instead of his own father. Nobody told him that even his own father was given a station he wasn't the most qualified for.

Ask yourself, what is MERIT?

I gain admission into a university as a result of my hardwork in studying my book and passing well - THAT'S MERIT.

I gain admission into a university as a result of my kinsmen slotting me in despite my inability to pass well or meet the requirements- THAT'S NOT MERIT.

You are a shameless liar if you say that Dike and Njoku were not professionally competent for their VCship appointment.

Your claim that it was zik that fixed them there makes you a bigger liar. It is the senate board of the university that recommends, then the prime minister (balewa) APPOINTS. The ceremonial president (zik) only assents.

If you have issues with tafawa balewa or core north, be bold enough to confront the north and stop being a coward. Balewa appointed dike and njoku, NOT zik. Dike and Njoku met all the necessary requirements for VCship.

Your Ajose not being appointed showed that he wasnt the only professor, in fact he had colleagues who had competitive advantage.

UI - belonged to the federal govt. (A colonial gift to Nigeria).
UNN - Belonged to the Eastern regional government.
UNILAG - Belonged to the FCT (then Lagos)
OAU - Belonged to the Western regional government
ABU - Belonged to the Northern regional govt.

So where was the nepotism here? Was UI a Yoruba property as at then? Was Unilag a Yoruba property then?

You and your "likes" are just arguing blindly. You can't rewrite history.
You seem not understand that in the NPC/NCNC partnership of the independence government, Balewa and his NPC did not compete with Azikiwe as regards who was appointed to positions the North was not educated to occupy. Azikiwe and his party simply had a free hand to do as they like on such matters, and they sure did as they liked.

Despite the fact that even NCNC had many Yoruba Parliamentarians and party members, and the East had minority tribes under NCNC, it was largely treated as an Igbo affair when it came to sharing the spoils of the alliance with the Northern NPC.

This was the awareness that Akintola created among Yorubas, that being in the opposition has ensured that the Igbos cornered everything being in alliance with an educationally disadvantaged North.

When it was time to appoint a School Council Chairman, Azikiwe owned that turf and had his own party man and tribe man, Akanu Ibiam appointed, and at the same time Dike was appointed as Vice Principal to a soon departing British Principal.

Do you know that after Akanu Ibiam quit the chairmanship of the UI School Council to go become governor general of Eastern Region, the next 2 successive School Council Chairman were still Igbos (Okechukwu Ikejiani, Louis Mbanefo), with an Igbo Kenneth Dike still in charge as Principal. That is how brazenly tribalist the "meritocracy" practised by Azikiwe's NCNC that had educated Yoruba politicians as members.

Again, I repeat, Oladele Ajose was the most senior African on the Academic Board, which was the pool from which the Principal was to be chosen. He was the most experienced African and Nigerian on that Academic Board. He was the pioneering African Professor in the whole school and country. That made him superior to any other Nigerian professor however competent they were, be it Igbo or Yoruba, without regard to their separate disciplines for which all were the pioneering Africans in University College Ibadan.

But Igbo meritocracy meant the most qualified Igbo was preferred to the most qualified and pioneering Nigerian.

Was UI and Unilag an Igbo property for the NCNC dominating the federal government to have chosen the most qualified Igbo over the most qualified Nigerian, to the extent that the School Council Chairmanship at Ibadan had to embrace "Keduism" over 3 successive appointments?

Yet this was a federal university, not an Igbo or Yoruba owned regional university.

Let me give you the ultimate bombshell from the quoted words of Kenneth Dike, who despite having been appointed the Vice Principal, still did not feel he was the one that merited the post of Principal. Here is what the Igbo Akanu Ibiam told him when he protested his planned appointment as Principal.

"Apart from you, one has to think of looking outside the country for a successor to Parry (outgoing Principal)"

Those were the words of an Igbo School Council Chairman who was determined that no other Nigerian professor or Academic Board member was qualified except the Igbo Kenneth Dike who was not the most senior Nigerian or the most experienced Nigerian on the Academic Board.

If not Kenneth Dike, it must be an outsider out of Nigeria.

Keduism at its rawest form!

Uptill after his appointment, Kenneth Dike never felt comfortable with the decision, because you cannot lie to your conscience.

That is factual history, not rewritten but retold, so that the uninformed will know what the Igbos did last summer.

If Igbos could come to your land and still outdo you in the game of tribalism and nepotism as you blatantly claim on the basis of the appointment of a preponderance of the Igbo academia in all your regional institutions... Then it could only mean one of two possibilities, either the Igbos were simply qualified because they earned it through merit, classic elitism, and hardowork... or the Yorubas were simply too stupid to allow "strangers" from a different region come to thier own turf and edge them out.
And when Awolowo dared to chart a political direction for the Yorubas and also become Premier of the Western Region he was a native of ahead of Azikiwe the "stranger", he was labelled a tribalist by Igbos.

When Amadu Bello devised the Northernization policy for the benefit of his own Northern citizens who had started enrolling in universities and would require job, he was branded a vile tribalist by the same Igbos who would later gloat that others were simply too stupid to allow "strangers" from a different region come to their own turf and edge them out.

So you can now see the problem with the ambivalent Igbos. In one breath they claim they dominate, in another breath they claim they are marginalized because others refuse to surrender their own inheritance for the benefit of Igbos who steadfastly hold on to their own.

The same Igbos who wanted an indivisible country they had hoped they would dominate, were the ones to cry for secession when their domination agenda was thwarted.
The same Igbos who wanted a unitary government when they were the head of the military regime, decried same unitary government the instant they lost the military control.

That is why I am never moved by their crocodile tears.

You had Nigeria in your palms, but your excessive greed would not let you enjoy what you had in peace. You just had to overreach yourselves until you were brutally cut down to what you have become now.

Rev Samuel Johnson, 1846 - 1901

Do you know what the topic was about?
A History of the Yorubas from the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the British Protectorate.

The historical work was started in 1881 and completed in 1897, unfortunately the publisher in Britain claimed to have misplaced the original manuscript so it wasn't published before 1900 when the Igbos were still bushmen. It was later repackaged by his brother, Obadiah Johnson, and finally published in 1921.

Even at that time, Dike's ancestor were still fighting village wrestling with naked women dancing to the delight of the villagers.

which psychiatrist home?! You revisionists can cook up tales. Anyways it wasn't a single Yoruba that protested. The students violently protested and security forces were brought in. That's how u guys hve been rewriting history, but are quick to expunge it from our curriculum because with proper research the truth will emerge.
Kayode Adams was not a "students attacker", but a single "student attacker" of Prof Biobaku, who was stabbed by Kayode in the back as he addressed the university community.

He pleaded insanity in court and was confined to a psychiatric home for his conviction term and rusticated from school. He was found dead a few years later, drowned by the sea shore.

Why was Eni Njoku unable to return as Principal for a 2nd term at University of Lagos?

1. Because the Igbo instrument of Nepotism and Tribalism, the NCNC, had been unable to manage their alliance with the NPC, especially after the disputed 1964 parliamentary elections that eventually delayed the forming of a government by Azikiwe after his initial refusal. This did not go down well with the North and Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa.

2. Akintola had awakened the Yorubas to what the Igbos were doing right on Yoruba soil by employment of Nepotism and Tribalism to fill federal government positions. Akintola then began to liaise with the North to get Yorubas what they deserve from the federal government. Tafawa Balewa woke up from his prior indifference to Igbos dominating the federal space in an illiterate North/Educated East alliance.

There was no way the federal government would allow their partner Azikiwe and his NCNC party continue with the unrestrained nepotism and tribalism that was so evident to all.

Akintola would be mortally hated for bringing the Igbo version of meritocracy to the spotlight. He would be denied his life for daring to be an obstacle to Igbo greed.

While the North has always been painted bad to the rest of the South, the Igbos had always been willing partners to ensure their own benefit. Same happened with their partnership with Shagari in 1979.

Yet they claim Yorubas are the weak link in the South who fraternize with the Northern enemy.

Even in 1993, the Igbos largely voted for Bashir Tofa who had an Igbo vice, rather than vote for Abiola who was a Southerner running for the presidency itself. Yet same Igbos would lament that Yorubas chose to betray the South by voting Buhari instead of Jonathan in 2015, because Buhari had a Yoruba vice. They quickly forgot that same Jonathan had been voted by Yorubas in 2011 despite that same Buhari also had a same Yoruba Pastor, Tunde Bakare then. Then they hypocritically forgot that they also voted to be vice president in 1993 with a Northern Bashir Tofa, rather than having a Southern Abiola as President.

Was his academic work as a historian so groundbreaking that he was worthy of a role in Harvard as a professor that he already was found worthy too in Ibadan, but that was not enough to become Principal in Harvard as the Igbos were not in charge of the school council?

So have you now proven that the less qualified Dike who was the senior African historian in Ibadan, as such the senior African professor of history, was by default the must qualified to become Principal of the whole school when he did, just because he later went on to Harvard to have the same job he already had in Ibadan as just a professor of his own academic field and not Harvard Principal?

This debate has been exhausted conclusively on another thread.

I have no interest in who became the first Nigerian head of a higher college that Yorubas rejected from the British as a sorry excuse for their demand for a full fledged university education.

As for Dike, I have already detailed how he got his appointment by Igbo merit. ENI Njoku was also appointed by the NPC/NCNC coalition that was in government at that time in 1960.

Njoku was Igbo, and an Azikiwe was Governor General/Ceremonial President.

The most qualified Igbo gets the nod in typical Azikiwe and NCNC fashion.

Or do you also insist that Kenneth dike was more qualified than his senior colleague and first African professor Oladele Ajose, in University College Ibadan?

Dike was called back from his sabbatical in the USA, to come resume as Vice-Principal, in a bid to ensure he eventually became Principal soon. The Igbo agenda was then unveiled when they conducted their first recruitment after the departure of the British.

In Nuclear Physics and Chemistry – again another Igbo man – Professor Frank Ndili who gained a Ph.D in his early ’20s at Cambridge Univesity in Nuclear Physics and Chemistry in the early ’60s. This young Asaba man had made a First Class in Physics and Mathematics at the then University College Ibadan in the early ’50s.
First Professor of Statistics – Professor Adichie who’s research on Non-Parametric Statistics led to new areas in statistical research.
What about the first Nigerian Professor of Medicine – Professor Kodilinye – he was appointed a Professor of Medicine at the University of London in 1952. He later became the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka after the war.
What about Astronomy – again another Igbo man was the first Professor of Astronomy – please, look up Professor Ntukoju – he was the first to earn a double Ph.D in Astronomy and Mathematics.
Let’s go to the Social Sciences – Demography and statistical research into population studies – again another Igbo man – Professor Okonjo who set up the first Centre for Population Research in Ibadan in the early ’60s. A double Ph.D in Mathematics and Economics.
Philosophy – Professor G D Okafor, who became a Professor of Philosophy at the Amherst College USA in 1953.
Economics – Dr. Pius Okigbo who became a visiting scholar and Professor of Economics at the University of London in 1954. He is also the first Nigerian Ph.D in Economics.
Theology and theological research – Professor Njoku who became the first Nigerian to earn a Ph.D in Theology from Queens University Belfast in Ireland. He was appointed a Professor of Theology at the University College Zambia in 1952.
We are not challenging that Igbo's did not have their own firsts later in the 1900s toward independence in 1960. For every Igbo first achieved much later, there is a double Yoruba firsts achieved before Igbos even knew what was called a grammar school or secondary education.

Name the educated Igbo's that existed and contributed their expertise to their society before 1900, and prove that Yorubas were illiterates in the jungle of Yorubaland as at the time the Igbos were educated, as claimed by an empty headed Igbo.

And of course, you know Prof Dr Oladele Ajose was the first professor of any discipline in Nigeria, making your list a worthless attempt to debate Yoruba academic prowess in comparison to our catch-up Igbo pursuers.

Stop this stinky tribalism please.
This was a dare I tabled before the empty headed BankeSmalls who said Yorubas were in the jungle when Igbos were educated.

Let one Igbo come and defend the claim by providing just 10 university educated Igbo as at 1900.

No be the same Igbo wey just get secondary school as recent as 1925?

I laugh in catch-up!

Is there no proud Igbo to take up my challenge above?

This is a disgrace!

Just name 10 Igbo Doctors and 10 Igbo lawyers before the year 1900, and I will name 10 Yoruba's for each profession who were the second generation of Yorubas with such education at the time.

Okay, maybe this is mission impossible for Igbos. Just name 10 university educated Igbos as at 1900, and I will still fulfill my own end of the bargain.
