No, i am thinking the divorce is somehow cos the divorce is either a year or less than a year. The V.O made mention of that. She filed the divorce after the husband absconded, which is after their travel to the USA.

Twoods...let me correct something.
In Nigeria, we don't sign divorce documents. The Petitioner files a Petition and serves it on the other spouse.
All the other spouse needs to do is file a response if he or she so wishes.
The only requirement on the part of the Petitioner is to serve the document on the other spouse ans show evidence in court.
He or she not being present the Petition will be heard and the divorce decree made.

I am thinking the original poster filled her marital status on the ds160 as married and not divorced. I may be wrong....just my thoughts.

Since the spouse is not in nigeria, how did she serve the petition? If she used courier, does she know the address of the spouse? I thought the two parties has to be aware.

Also, The court will not grant a divorce on a 1yr separation, except there is failure in complying with decree of restitution of conjugal rights made under the Act. If not, it has to comply to the 2yrs/3yrs rule.

Call a spade a spade, your chances of getting a visa are slim. The VOs have seen examples like yours time and time again. Even if you present a divorce document (which is hard to see since your ex spouse was not here to sign the document), how do you convince the VO that you’re not likely to get back together and remarry as soon as you get into the US? That’s the bottom line.

This is exactly my thought. The divorce document she is holding is not binding since the husband wasn't there to sign and might not be aware.

Please my interview is coming up soon. I'm for fall 2019 and want to be part of part 15. I have an unconditional admission for Ph.D in mechanical engineering for fall 2019 at the university of Texas at Arlington. My academic advisor has said I will be given financial aid. Please house, is it the same as funding? Also, he said I will be offered a GTA and the list will be out formally after September 1, 2019 cos I made 107 in my Toefl, GRE( verbal 160 and quant 169) and 4 in my analytical writing. an aggregate of 329 in my GRE.
Please house, I need answers to the following questions;
1. Is financial aid same as funding?
2. The financial aid offer which I don't know the amount and GTA allowance are not showing in my I-20 and my interview is in few weeks time. Please, what should I do? I also need help for possible questions and answers by the VO from the forum.

You are a brilliant person to get those scores. You supposed to know answer to number 1 question that you are asking.

Since the offer will come out sept 1, you have not been given the offer yet, that's why it's not showing on your i20. The school plan to give you the offer when you resume. Meaning you have to attend the interview with a statement of account showing availability of required funds on the I20.

They should divorce legally and document it... if that won't be too late though. Also, the man might have gone with a short B1 and have overstayed his visa. Several things come to play here bro. She can only hope.

If she can get a divorce certificate from registry, then she should reply. I won't advise reapplying till the issue is sorted out.

I'm sorry about your refusal... Truth be told, you shouldn't have mentioned him on your Ds-160 when y'all aren't together anymore . However, make sure you include it on the next Ds-160 cos it's a big deal already. Just hope for a VO that'll overlook that.

Even if she doesn't. The husband must have included her in his DS 160 as his wife. So there is no way she can avoid that question. I don't think they are legally divorced since the husband has been in the USA.

Visa was denied at the US Consulate Lagos

My transcript goes thus:

VO: Pass me your Passport, I-20, SEVIS

Me: Passes documents

VO: How did you get the scholarship?

Me: A culmination of my application - competitive GRE Score, Quality work experience, stellar recommendations and an impressive interview experience

VO: (looks impressed)...I can see your husband has been in the US for the past one year. Care to explain why?

Me: We are divorced, He is my ex-husband.........

VO: Sorry, you do not qualify for the visa...blah blah and hands me the pink slip

Me: Walks away feeling super-dejected


(Please note; My total funding was $75,594 per Annum = $151,188 for two years)

How did the divorce happen? Was it documented? How do you prove to the V.O that you are divorced since your husband has been in the USA?

Yes, I know two or three people that did in USA. The two were exceptional in football. They did training with the school and the coach like their way of playing and help with the process of changing their status from visiting visa to student visa. Learn more about change of status from USCIS. U can Google it urself and see if it is still possible.

The V.O is nice and just told you the ugly truth. Go and finish in uniben, then apply for masters. even if you reapply 10times, no miracle will happen. Also they have record of everything you filled earlier and the note made by the V.O

No argument but I think we should only put updated info on this platform. kindly call the US embassy (+23412278955) to verify the above claim. Right now, cancellation of appointment comes with payment of another MRV as a way of controlling the traffic. The picture attached is what an account that has never rescheduled nor canceled an appointment looks like. I personally called the embassy to clarify cos I read online that one can reschedule 4-5times thereabout. Now you can reschedule once only.

I have someone that cancelled and rescheduled two weeks ago. If this is the new update, i will call embassy to clarify.

You are not supposed to cancel the appointment but reschedule. The platform allows you to reschedule once, if you cancel, you'll need to pay another MRV charges to book an appointment. Retry by tomorrow morning, if same issue, call the embassy on MONDAY to see if they can help you without paying another MRV.

That's not true. You can cancel or reschedule just once. Even when you reschedule, the previous one is cancelled.

How many times have you cancelled or rescheduled? You are only allowed to cancel once

I also think the change in career thing piss VO off most times (no matter your reason). Been thinking since yesterday on whether to just go for my masters in my former filed jeje (Agricultural Economics) and try to develop love for it and also embrace it and just forget ‘computer science’

It does alot unless you have good work experience in the field you are changing to.

I tried applying for msc, but my applications were rejected in both schools, they said I didn’t have a foundational course in computer science hence, I can’t be considered.
That was why I just went for bsc

You can take professional courses to boast your application. Also apply to more schools cos it won't be an easy feat.

I had a similar experience.The point he gave may not be excellent but are fair enough.He could have just talk about passion and personalize it with a short story.
Jobs should have been left out...it is okay to say it offers more opportunities!
However,the reason I see for the denial is not this response but the SOA.The calculations the VO they make shows he wasn't convince about something and he mentioned co-sponsored whereas he has only one SOA.If he has both it may have changed the complexion.
I told the VO co-sponsored last year and she gave me a funny 'family is struggling financially look'.
Another could have approved though!

Going for a second Bsc is not advisable. IT is a field that welcomes everybody irrespective of background. It's better to go through Msc route

Me- apart from the partial scholarship given to me and the academic excellence Troy is known for, I chose Troy coz their course structure is more flexible and their curriculum perfectly suit my study plan .

Me - (although I filled my step father in my ds160)

So you don't know you can do MSc in that course even if you don't have a related Bsc degree and still gain relevant knowledge. It's not always advisable to go for a second Bsc. Shoot for Msc please.

The school paid 1500$ in a month to an MTSU PhD GA but they have 2k deficits on I-20 which they do not even require a bank statement to obtain. So that is also a partial funding

Partial means incomplete. Let's leave this discussion please. You are free to view it the way you want.

So those that have deficits after tuition waiver and full GA according to the School Policy would have to pay the deficit when they are in school If they wouldn’t be paying any fee even insurance, you call it partial or full funding??

What concerns the school with your living expenses If they have sorted out those that concerns them. You don't have to pay that to them. Most deficits are mostly living expenses. Some includes health insurance. If you are the type that can manage, What they pay might be enough for you.

How many transcripts have you read on this thread It’s full funding even if it has deficit. I don’t like to argue so I won’t quote anyone after this.

If you read transcripts very well on this thread. You will find out that people mention full GA and the Vo will ask how u want to pay the deficit.

Schools that their stipend is just 10k to 15k will surely have a deficit. These deficit does not mean you will pay them when you get to school. You can live confirtably without paying a dime and the Vos knows this as well. So that you got a full GA doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have a deficit.
Schools like MTSU, ETSU, and Georgia Southern University have deficit after Full GA. Check Shawarma’s transcripts, she got a full GA yet have deficit to show on her I-20.

That you read transcript where people call it full funding doesn't make it the right choice of words. If it's full, the V.O won't ask for who is paying for the Deficit. Don't use cos the cost of living in that area is high, the school gave what they can afford. Schools in California, new york also pay stipends that covers the whole living expenses and cost of living there is very expensive. So funding depends on schools. Some covers everything while some doesn't. Once there is deficit, it's not full.
