ewosk: Despite the inability of the more supported football team Super Eagles to bring glory to Nigeria, the handball counterpart just wonkudos to them. As we no fit win leg ball we don win handball. Anoda tym e go b headball. |
ferdimako: Y all these? I mentioned d context that d usage is in order. Some folks speak American English in Nigeria- it is not necessarily gonna and wanna, in my IELTS I almost got stuck...and I had to free myself with American English... I made 7/9. I prefer American pronunciations! Anti...semiI am not trying to argue about the usage of english language. What am simply saying is that, it is wrong in Nigerian english. If the word ''advice'' is used as a verb in Nigerian english, it is wrong. The correct one is ''advise''. My correction is to help others who are confused about the usage of the two words. |
ferdimako: American English allows 'advice' to be used as a verb. So it is correct under non-british scenes. Another is 'practice' and others. Is American English allowed in our schools? Or do we speak American English officially? Can you use I wanna, lemme, gonna while writing an essay in Nigeria? The truth is that American English is not allowed in Nigerian schools. What we use is British English, and that is why textbooks, newspapers, magazines, course books and any other books are all written with British English. We are also encouraged to speak Standard British English. If you listen to some of our local newscasters and movies stars, you will find out that they speak standard British English. Thanks. |

[quote author=chuchu_o]Frank Onyeachonam, 38, of Canning Town, east London, ran the UK-end of a global scam that was orchestrated from his native Nigeria. The Old Bailey heard how he extracted up to £600,000 from pensioners to fund a luxurious lifestyle. He was jailed for eight years for charges of conspiracy to defraud. The court heard how he deliberately targeted pensioners because they were potentially vulnerable to handover their life savings. The conman had the nickname "Fizzy" because of all the champagne he drank Proceeds from his con enabled Onyeachonam to buy a luxury flat in Canary Wharf with a view of The O2 The scam - known as an "advance fee" fraud - saw Onyeachonam send victims emails claiming they had won millions of pounds on a non-existent Australian lottery. He asked them to send him money so he could release their winnings. Afterwards, the victims would then become hooked on the scam and made extra payments, which forced several victims to come out of retirement in order to pay back high-interest loans they had taken out to pay him. Fourteen victims, mainly from the US but one from Britain, were found to have lost a total of about £900,000. Money was found in his flat, described by police as an 'Aladdin's cave' Emails showed victims pleaded with Onyeachonam to send them money to pay for healthcare, while some died before he could be brought to justice. Some of those exploited by Onyeachonam were also investigated themselves after they were used as "pawns" to launder the proceeds of the fraud by sending on money from other victims or setting up business accounts. When his luxury flat in Canary Wharf was raided, police discovered an "Aladdin's cave" of evidence, which included notebooks containing the names, addresses and cash tallies relating to 406 people. If all of those in the notebooks suffered losses, the fraud is likely to have run to at least £5m and possibly as high as £30m. Co-defendants Lawrencia Emenyonu, 38, and Bernard Armah, 51, both of Wood Green, north London, were found guilty of money laundering, and were jailed for 18 months and eight months respectively. Onyeachonam was seen as the key figure in the UK but police suspect a criminal network was in place in several countries around the world. Authorities found an alleged co-conspirator abroad had an email containing the details of more than 100,000 potential victims. The alleged mastermind or "chairman" of the network is based in Nigerian capital Lagos and is currently under investigation by authorities there. Our capital is Abuja not Lagos. @op you are correct, God has helped me to cultivate all the habits and above. Another thing is that, don't be at the receiving side but always be at the giving side. Be kind to everyone, respect everyone, remember that respect begats respect. Have a self control over your anger, don't get loose and fight, be friendly to everybody. |
coded01: Are you referring to the Presidency, NFF, Media, Players or the Loyal Nigerian People...Who are the loyal Nigerians? Are you referring to people who gathe themselves on nairaland and other social networks to criticise and insult their leaders? |

Can't the guy switch off his phone? If he can't do that in the day, he should be able to switch it off in the night. |
