SKY ROMANCE Romance in the sky Helios and Selene Mating an eclipse AUTUMN Autumn waft of breeze - Deciduous garden dew November has come... |
Mine was last year September, I was to attend a graduation party of a friend in New York. I applied for Visa through my the Abuja Office and when they called me for an interview, I wasn't feeling too well but went all the same. I stood for about 3 hours with empty stomach on a queue so long like cars during fuel scarcity. A girl (a buttee) whom I was chatting saw the way I was leaning on the wall took pity/interest in me asked me what the matter was, and I told her I wasn't feeling too well and was hungry also. She told me to secure her line while she went to get me food but before she got back, my interview was over and my visa approved. I stood outside waiting for her while about 7 people had gone in and when she came back I told the people that she was on the queue before and that she just went to get me food - pointing to the food pack on my hand... for where, dem no gree. She told me to eat my food that she'll handle it well. I started eating the rice and fish while chipping in points in their argument. Long story short... She got angry and called someone from State House/VILLA and within 5 mins her name was called, she entered and didn't spend up to 5mins and her visa was approved. She came out booing the people on queue and decided to walk me to the car while I enquired why she didn't pull her connect from the beginning and allowing us stand that long. She smiled and said "At times you need to avoid showing off" (I don't know what she meant by that. She demanded we exchange contacts... Just when I stretched my hand to collect her phone.........I puked on her and those people on the queue just started laughing at us. I just use shame enter my car zoom off.... ![]() |

vonn:Write us a Diamente poem na |
noble4d:Now I'm a bit confuse . |
noble4d:The passion lit in your words.. Not everyone put effort into what they didn't study in full display and authority. Kudos! ![]() |
noble4d:No wonder! |
Ya'll shouldn't forget the "Poem for Review Section" ooooo Please give us our own slot too on the FP |
timpaker:You don't wanna answer me huh? |
noble4d:Yeah.. I do. you studied/studying English Language in school huh? ![]() |

Go for the HP Envy... It has 8gb RAM and a terabyte disk space... I think its about 170k or so. |
noble4d:mirrored and trijan refrain? ![]() Yeah I love refrains too eg. Terzanelle and Villanelle (even though they can be quite tasking at times) my fav.s are narrative e.g epic, cowboy, ABC, octavarima, terza/rima and other short forms, and that's cuz these forms takes time to write. |
AmiableJay:The structure of the poem is what I dislike... I prefer other forms and shy away from the sonnet. noble4d:You dey try oooo |
noble4d: I believe my guy, Obinnau will do something about it soon. Remember the first Nairaland Collaborative Poetry Competition is holding this Saturday and we need the awareness abeg.. Thank you. |
noble4d:You're quite right bro. I didn't check the word count before terming it a 'sonnet', I only just checked the Shakespearian style he used and the iambic pentameters. (my bad ) The word count is what I hate most about it (sonnet). But contemporary poets tend to flow with the rhyming i.e. ababcdcdefefgg; ababbcbccdcdee or 8 lines of abbaabba/octave and 6 sestet of cdcdcd (I think) scheme while ignoring the syllabic count which are mutually exclusive to separate genres of the sonnet. I hope you understand moi? |
Nice sonnet bro. I wish I could write something like this. I consider sonnet a bit difficult to write though |
Are you sure the 407 has no issues? #Interested buyer |
The translator is a comedian... @topic. I wish those bashing Big Brother Programme could abide by the last line.... ![]() |
They know. I barely argue. |
Obinnau:Even with our man, Myndd44 as a supermod there has been less of our genre's topic on FP. I believe you'll act on it accordingly. Btw, longest time.... |
noble4d:Heheheheheheh. I'm both archaic and a new school... Well, you're current sha. |
noble4d:You may be right bro but from what I have read about a Diamente is that, the purpose is to go from the subject at the top of the diamond or lozenge to another totally different (and sometimes opposite) subject at the bottom written in seven lines of diamond shape. i.e. The First line - a word (NOUN) - A Second line - two ADJECTIVES - A Third line - three GERUNDS-A (verb + -ing) Fourth line - two NOUNS-A + two NOUNS-B Fifth line - three GERUNDS-B (verb + -ing) Sixth line - two ADJECTIVES-B and Seventh - One NOUN - B http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/diamante-poems-30053.html This is the Diamente I know designed by Iris Tiedt, the one you talking about should be the old school Diamente |
Emzypaz:I'm not good at lobbying. I once suggested to the people concerned last year for a poetry contest to be put on FP but was ignored. There is another Poetry contest - a collaborative poetry contest for that matter is around the corner and I see that going the same way that of last year did. But wasn't surprised when I saw "Miss Nairaland December 2014 Contest" on FP. Na dia way jare... The best thing is just to pretend as if there is no MOD and have fun frequenting your beloved Literature Section. |
There are lots of poems and stories (short ones inclusive) that can be put up too but I think the MOD feels it won't generate traffic (which I feel is one of the goals on Nairaland - to generate traffic!) But I must voice my mind.... the Poems for Review Section is as dormant as a diplomat bank account ![]() None of the topics or poem there graces the FP... This year alone, I can say that just 2 or 3 poems or topics have appeared on FP. Such a way to promote the section sha. @OP I think this Section is of no concern to Seun (this isn't the pet or politics section )Obinnau and Myndd44 over to you. ![]() |
I wrote this early last year for a contest online and I think I've shared it here on Nairaland. SUCCESS Poverty Hateful, fearful Struggling, toiling, grinding Office, home, work, library, Reading, writing, grinding Cautious, ambitious, Success That's mine ![]() It's suppose to be formatted to be centered but Nairaland platform doesn't have such. |
